Abstract
BACKGROUND Experiences of household food insecurity are associated with a wide range of deleterious nutritional, developmental, psychological and social consequences for children. Children's distinct experiences of food insecurity, compared to adults, have been identified in diverse economic and cultural contexts. Yet historically, measurement of food insecurity in children has been predominantly reported by adult respondents on behalf of children, potentially underestimating prevalence and neglecting their unique perspectives. In response to this, child-report measures have been developed to assess food security status at both the individual and household level. OBJECTIVES To identify and characterise child self-report food insecurity assessment tools used globally, with particular interest in how children's perspectives have been included in measure development processes. METHODS A scoping systematic literature review was conducted using PRISMA-ScR. Searches were conducted in four databases in January 2024 using keywords and MeSH terms. Data were extracted and synthesised relating to population and measure characteristics, validity and reliability metrics, and child involvement in measure development. RESULTS A total of 169 papers employing child-report measures were included after screening. Most papers originated in North America, used a single-item and included children aged >12 years. Of the child-report measures identified (n = 33), most were not specifically validated in the population of use. Only a small number of included papers (n = 13) had the aim to specifically evaluate measure validity. The Child Food Insecurity Experiences Scale and Child Food Assessment Scale emerged as child-centred measures with comprehensive validity evidence. CONCLUSIONS Further child-centred validity testing, particularly with younger children (<12 years) is necessary to ensure validity of measures across age-groups and contexts. Ethical considerations when employing child-report measures, including how to best use tools across different child settings also warrant further exploration.

Abstract
Background: The burden of hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition in sub-Saharan Africa is enormous. A higher proportion of the population suffer the consequences of food insecurity, hunger and undernourishment than previously assumed. Food insecurity among adolescents has been documented to be associated with malnutrition, poor health outcomes, low educational attainment and other negative consequences. Aim: This study therefore assessed food insecurity and its associated factors among adolescents in Sagamu, Ogun State, Nigeria. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 1300 in-school adolescents in Sagamu Township, Ogun State in southwestern Nigeria, selected via multi-stage sampling. A semi-structured, self-administered questionnaire was used for data collection. Data were analyzed with the aid of SPSS 20.0. Relevant descriptive and inferential statistics were calculated, with p < 0.05. Result: The prevalence of food insecurity was 45%, of which 34.6% had mild food insecurity, 34.7% had moderate food insecurity, while others experienced the severe form of food insecurity. Gender, age; maternal occupation, maternal education, living arrangement, low sense of self-worth, alcohol intake and cigarette smoking were associated (p < 0.05) with food insecurity. Predictors of food insecurity were: age; maternal education, living arrangement and some behavioral factors. Conclusion: The prevalence of food insecurity among adolescents in Sagamu was high. Multi-sectorial action is essential in tackling the challenges of food insecurity and its numerous consequences among adolescents, at all levels of governance.

Abstract
BACKGROUND As food insecurity (FI) continues to rise worldwide especially in developing countries like Bangladesh, adolescent experience of FI have received minimal attention globally. This study aimed to identify the prevalence of adolescent-reported FI and its association with individual and socio-environmental factors as well as coping strategies amongst a sample of adolescents living in urban slum areas of Bangladesh in the times of the Coronavirus 19 (COVID-19) pandemic. METHODS A descriptive cross sectional study was conducted amongst 326 adolescents (12-18 years) living in the urban slums of Narayanganj, Dhaka from April to May, 2022. Adolescent-reported FI was assessed using a structured questionnaire adopted from Household Food Insecurity Access Scale (HFIAS). Descriptive statistics, Chi-square tests and ordinal logistic regression were used to draw inference. RESULTS Prevalence of adolescent-reported FI was high (46.6% moderate and 29.8% severe). The likelihood of experiencing moderate or severe FI versus no/mild FI were 1.7 times (95% Confidence Interval (CI) [1.1, 2.5]) higher in younger adolescents and 5 times (95% CI [2.3, 12.7]) higher in unemployed youth. Socio-environmental factors determining the economic status of a household such as higher number of family members, only one earning family member, unemployed father, no household assets, food aid received by the family during pandemic and positive COVID-19 infection in family were associated with moderate and severe FI. Coping strategies such as a higher number of food seeking strategies (Adjusted Odds Ratio (AOR) 3.4, 95% CI [1.9, 5.9]), substance use (AOR 6.2, 95% CI [1.2, 31.7]) and stopping school (AOR 3.3, 95% CI [1.9, 5.7]) increased odds for moderate and severe FI. Stratified by drop-out of school status, an association between food seeking strategies and FI remained significant among those school-going, while there was no association among those dropping out of school. CONCLUSION This study showed that adolescents living in urban slum communities in Bangladesh are at very high risk of FI and resort to harmful coping strategies. Our study highlights the importance of further research in adolescent reported FI and coping strategies in low to middle income countries (LMICs) and create appropriate interventions to lower FI among this group and improve their state of health and wellbeing.

Abstract
There is a need for reliable and valid screening tools that assess depressive symptoms in adolescents in Pakistan. To address this need, the present study examined the psychometric properties and factor structure of a Sindhi-translated and adapted version of the child-report Mood and Feelings Questionnaire (MFQ-C) and the Short Mood and Feelings Questionnaire (SMFQ-C) in a community sample of adolescents living in Matiari, Pakistan. Questionnaires were translated into Sindhi and administered by study psychologists to 1350 participants (52.3% female) 9.0 to 15.9 years old. Measurement structure was examined using confirmatory factor analysis. Internal consistency was estimated, and convergent and divergent validity were explored using subscales from the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire and the Screen for Child Anxiety Related Emotional Disorders. The unidimensional structure of the MFQ-C was found to be adequate, but a four-factor structure comprising core mood, vegetative, cognitive and agitated distress symptoms best fit the data (CFI = 0.97, TLI = 0.97, RMSEA = 0.05). The original unidimensional structure of the SMFQ-C was supported (CFI = 0.97, TLI = 0.96, RMSEA = 0.07). The MFQ-C and the SMFQ-C respectively showed excellent (α = 0.92) and good internal consistency (α = 0.87) as well as satisfactory construct validity with some differences observed across the MFQ-C subscales. The SMFQ-C and the adapted MFQ-C appear to be reliable and valid measures of depressive symptoms among early adolescents living in rural Pakistan. Both total and subscale scores can be derived from the MFQ-C to assess general and specific dimensions of depressive symptoms in this population.

Abstract
Background and Purpose The world is experiencing a nutritional transition, yet some regions of South East Asia are still living under the shadows of catastrophic nutritional indicators. Pakistan bears a high dual burden of both communicable and chronic diseases. However, a major contributing factor of both is poor diet and nutrition. The causal pathway of stunting, underweight, wasting, and micronutrient deficiencies has beginnings in less dietary diversity and food insecurity. Current literature on Pakistan and other South Asian countries regarding food insecurity and dietary diversity largely focus on women and children aged less than 5 years; however, ethnic and cultural dynamics of the populace concerning their food and dietary practices in Pakistan have not been well explored. It is essential to have a clear insight into the factors involving malnutrition in different clusters, especially different cultures and ethnicities to target specific areas of interventional strategies versus a uniform approach for all. This study aimed to explore the level of food insecurity and dietary diversity in all major ethnic groups of Karachi, the largest city of Pakistan. Methods Using the multistage random sampling, 535 households from five major ethnic groups residing in Karachi were included in the study. To measure food insecurity and dietary diversity (primary and secondary outcome, respectively), we used a FAO standardized questionnaire (version 3, 2007) that was translated first into local languages, piloted, and employed to collect information. Results Severe food insecurity levels had an inverse relationship with the household dietary diversity, which persisted even after adjusting for other variables (β=−0.31, 95% CI=−0.65, −0.07). There was no statistically significant association of age, marital status, or education level on food diversity. The most food secure cultural people were those whose ancestors had migrated from India and were Urdu speaking communities, while Sindhi speakers were the least food secure community. Conclusion It is imperative to investigate more on the cultural causal factors leading to food insecurity to address the root causes of malnutrition and design new cultural-specific interventions that should be employed in large urban centers where different communities reside together.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Household food insecurity (FI) is defined as limited or uncertain access to nutritionally adequate and safe food or limited ability to obtain foods in socially acceptable ways has become a global issue in recent decades. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted in Kerman, southeast of Iran in 2019, covering 559 marginalised households. United States Department of Agriculture food security measure was used for data collection. Finally, data were analysed using t-test, χ 2 , Mann-Whitney tests and logistic regression. RESULTS The prevalence of FI was 82% among slums households. The most important experience of FI in households was reliance on low-cost foods. There was a significant relationship between slums FI and gender of head of household, household size, household income, household education level and marital status (p ˂ 0.05). According to the results of the multivariate regression the variables of education, household income level and household size significantly determined FI (p ˂ 0.05). CONCLUSION The most important determinant of FI was low socioeconomic status (income, education, household size). Hence, public policies targeting socioeconomic factors should be made to improve the socioeconomic status of slum dwellers.
