Abstract
Objective Virtual nursing interventions, which use virtual reality and artificial intelligence technology to provide remote care for patients, have become increasingly common in cancer treatment, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study was to evaluate the efficacy of virtual nursing interventions for cancer patients in contrast to conventional, in-person care. Methods Eight randomized controlled trials (RCTs) contrasted virtual nursing with conventional techniques that satisfied the inclusion criteria were found after a thorough search across databases including PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, Scopus, and APA PsycINFO. RevMan 5.3 software was utilized for data analysis after the included literature's quality was assessed and the intended consequence indicators were extracted. Results Virtual nurse interventions enhanced the quality of life of cancer patients (standardized mean difference [SMD] = 0.22, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.01 to 0.43, P = 0.04). Virtual nurse interventions provide cancer patients with important support, particularly when access to in-person care is limited. In light of the many demands that cancer patients have, further research is required to overcome implementation issues and provide fair access to virtual treatment. Conclusions All things considered, virtual nursing shows potential as an adjunctive element of all-inclusive cancer care delivery models, deserving of further investigation and thoughtful incorporation into healthcare systems.

Abstract
AIM To determine the effectiveness of brief reminiscence-based psychosocial interventions in alleviating psychological distress in cancer patients. BACKGROUND Cancer patients suffer tremendous psycho-spiritual pain, which affects their quality of life. Brief reminiscence-based psychosocial interventions have demonstrated positive effects on the mental health of cancer patients; however, the efficacy of these interventions has been inconsistent. DESIGN A systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS This review was conducted and reported in accordance with the PRISMA 2020 checklist provided by the EQUATOR network. The Cochrane Library, Web of Science, PsycINFO, PubMed, Embase, CINAHL and Scopus databases were systematically searched from inception to 27 November 2022 to identify randomised controlled trials (RCTs) published in English. RESULTS Twenty studies involving 1744 cancer participants were included. The meta-analysis showed statistically significant effects of brief reminiscence-based psychosocial interventions on hope, anxiety and depression at post-intervention. A separate analysis revealed that brief reminiscence-based psychosocial interventions had a sustainable effect on hope, spiritual well-being, anxiety and depression at 1 month after the intervention. However, no statistically significant effect on quality of life was found in our study either immediately after the intervention or at 1 month. CONCLUSIONS Brief reminiscence-based psychosocial interventions can significantly reduce anxiety and depressive symptoms and improve hope and spiritual well-being in cancer patients. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE This study further supports that brief reminiscence-based psychosocial interventions should be incorporated into the routine care of cancer patients to address their psychosocial distress. Abstract
BACKGROUND Make It Training is an e-mental health intervention designed for individuals with cancer that aims to reduce psychological distress and improve disease-related coping and quality of life. OBJECTIVE This study evaluated the experienced usefulness and usability of the web-based Make It Training intervention using a qualitative approach. METHODS In this study, semistructured interviews were conducted with participants at different cancer stages and with different cancer entities. All participants had previously taken part in the Reduct trial, a randomized controlled trial that assessed the efficacy of the Make It Training intervention. The data were coded deductively by 2 independent researchers and analyzed iteratively using thematic codebook analysis. RESULTS Analysis of experienced usefulness resulted in 4 themes (developing coping strategies to reduce psychological distress, improvement in quality of life, Make It Training vs traditional psychotherapy, and integration into daily life) with 11 subthemes. Analysis of experienced usability resulted in 3 themes (efficiency and accessibility, user-friendliness, and recommendations to design the Make It Training intervention to be more appealing) with 6 subthemes. Make It Training was evaluated as a user-friendly intervention helpful for developing functional coping strategies to reduce psychological distress and improve quality of life. The consensus regarding Make It Training was that it was described as a daily companion that integrates well into daily life and that it has the potential to be routinely implemented within oncological health care either as a stand-alone intervention or in addition to psychotherapy. CONCLUSIONS e-Mental health interventions such as Make It Training can target both the prevention of mental health issues and health promotion. Moreover, they offer a cost-efficient and low-threshold option to receive psycho-oncological support.

Abstract
Introduction: Caregivers of children with chronic illness, such as hematology-oncology conditions, face numerous stressors, and a subset experience persistent distress and poor psychological outcomes. Many logistical and ethical barriers complicate the provision of mental health care to caregivers in children's hospital settings. Telemental health (TMH) is one method to increase access and reduce barriers. Methods: A partnership was established with an outside TMH agency to provide mental health care to caregivers of children with hematology-oncology conditions. Development and implementation strategies are described, and feasibility was measured on four dimensions. Results: One hundred twenty-seven (n = 127) caregivers were referred for TMH services in the first 28 months of program implementation. Of the total, 63/127 (49%) received TMH services for at least one session. Most caregivers had a child in active medical treatment (89%). A small portion (11%) of caregivers were bereaved or had a child in hospice care. Program feasibility was enhanced by hospital leadership support and availability of staffing, financial, and technology resources. Available resources also contributed to the practicality of program development and swift implementation and integration within the defined hospital system. Discussion: Partnership with an outside TMH agency increased access to care and reduced barriers to treating caregivers in a children's hospital setting. Offering mental health interventions to caregivers aligns with evidence-based standards of care. Future research will elucidate caregiver satisfaction with this modality of treatment and whether use of TMH reduces disparities in caregiver receipt of mental health care in children's hospital settings.

Abstract
Background Due to digitization in the medical sector, many healthcare interactions are switched to online services. This study assessed the acceptance of video consultations (VCs) in cancer care, and determined drivers and barriers of acceptance. Methods A cross-sectional online-based survey study was conducted in Germany from February 2022 to February 2023. Recruitment took place at oncology outpatient clinics, general practitioners, oncology practices and via cancer-related social media channels. Inclusion criteria were a cancer diagnosis, cancer treatment and internet access. Sociodemographic, medical data, eHealth-related data were acquired via an online assessment. The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model was used to determine the acceptance of VC and its predictors. Results Of N = 350 cancer patients, 56.0% (n = 196) reported high acceptance of VC, 28.0% (n = 98) stated moderate acceptance and 16.0% (n = 56) indicated low acceptance. Factors influencing acceptance were younger age (β = -.28, p < .001), female gender (β = .35, p = .005), stage of disease (β = .11, p = .032), high digital confidence (β = .14, p = .010), low internet anxiety (β = -.21, p = .001), high digital overload (β = -.12, p = .022), high eHealth literacy (β = .14, p = .028), personal trust (β = -.25, p < .001), internet use (β = .17, p = .002), and the UTAUT predictors: performance expectancy (β = .24, p < .001), effort expectancy (β = .26, p < .001), and social influence (β = .34, p < .001). Conclusions Patients' acceptance of VC in cancer care is high. Drivers and barriers to acceptance identified should be considered for personalized applications. Considering the growing demand for cancer care establishing digital healthcare solutions is justified.

Abstract
PURPOSE Cancer survivorship care planning is a recognized yet underutilized aspect of care delivery, and the opportunity for telehealth in cancer survivorship is examined. METHODS We conducted a mixed-methods study in Vermont and New Hampshire to characterize perceptions of rural cancer providers and survivors regarding survivorship transitions in care, consisting of (a) key informant interviews with primary care and oncology clinicians, (b) a broader survey of clinicians, and (c) surveys and focus group discussions with cancer survivors. In these interactions, we also explored the use of a shared telehealth survivorship care planning appointment between oncology clinicians, primary care clinicians, and survivors. RESULTS Results from surveys and interviews clustered around several themes, namely (1) infrequent care transitioning back to primary care, (2) lack of mental health services, (3) lack of side effect education, (4) low perceived utility of survivorship care plans, (5) clinicians exclusively communicate using the EMR and finding it imperfect, and (6) clinicians and survivors reported conflicting perceptions regarding survivors' access to telehealth options. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest that telehealth has the potential to augment the delivery of survivorship care planning; however, key technical and logistical concerns need to be addressed, particularly enhanced coordination across clinician scheduling and ensuring payment parity for various telehealth implementation strategies. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS Cancer survivorship care planning is a recognized yet underutilized aspect of care delivery. There is an opportunity for the application of telehealth for supportive care in survivorship care planning, which should be a focus of further research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is a need for patient-provider dissemination and implementation frameworks, strategies, and protocols in palliative care settings for a holistic approach when it comes to addressing pain and other distressing symptoms affecting the quality of life, function, and independence of patients with chronic illnesses. The purpose of this scoping review is to explore patient-centered D&I frameworks and strategies that have been adopted in PC settings to improve behavioral and environmental determinants influencing health outcomes through evidence-based programs and protocols. METHODS The five step Arksey and O'Malley's (2005) York methodology was adopted as a guiding framework: (1) identifying research questions; (2) searching for relevant studies; (3) selecting studies relevant to the research questions; (4) charting the data; and (5) collating, summarizing, and reporting results. RESULTS Only 6 out of the 38 (16%) included studies applied a D&I theory and/or framework. The RE-AIM framework was the most prominently cited (n = 3), followed by the Diffusion of Innovation Model (n = 2), the CONNECT framework (n = 1), and the Transtheoretical Stages of Change Model (n = 1). The most frequently reported ERIC strategy was strategy #6 "Develop and organize quality monitoring systems", as it identified in all 38 of the included studies. CONCLUSION This scoping review identifies D&I efforts to translate research into practice in U.S. palliative care settings. Results may contribute to enhancing future D&I initiatives for dissemination/adaptation, implementation, and sustainability efforts aiming to improve patient health outcomes and personal satisfaction with care received.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The medical field is in the midst of a massive expansion in telemedical services. However, it is not possible to say to what extent telemedical offerings can be designed to meet needs in the German healthcare system. This study provides insights into demand-oriented care using telemedical services for gynecological patients. METHODS A total of 262 patients who received systemic therapy for gynecological oncology were surveyed anonymously using a questionnaire regarding their acceptance of telemedicine from February 2021 to April 2021. RESULTS Insufficient computer skills were associated with less acceptance of telemedicine treatment by gynecological oncology patients and presented a barrier. However, the patient's level of education was not related to the level of acceptance. Long travel distances from medical facilities and some types of patient occupations significantly increased the acceptance of telemedicine services. A high level of education, on the other hand, was not associated with the approval of telemedical approaches. Long journeys and work commitments increased the acceptance of telemedical visits. CONCLUSIONS The results of this study show that the factors investigated have an influence on the acceptance of telemedical offerings by patients. Barriers such as insufficient computer skills must be taken into account when implementing telemedicine services. Telemedicine can provide physical and economic relief for patients if telemedical planning is tailored to their needs.

Abstract
Background For monitoring, providing, and managing COVID-19 pandemic healthcare services, telemedicine holds incredible potential. During this period, there has been a change in the remote services offered to cancer patients. As a result, the purpose of this study was to conduct a mapping review to identify and classify telemedicine applications for providing cancer care to patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods Articles published in scientific databases such as Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, and ProQuest up to 2022 were searched for in this systematic mapping study. Identifying keywords, creating a search strategy, and selecting data sources were all part of our search for relevant articles. The articles were chosen in phases based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results A total of 1331 articles were found, with the majority of them (46% of them) taking place in the United States. Telemedicine systems were most commonly developed for breast cancer (11.4%), lung cancer (7.9%), head and neck cancer (6.4%), brain cancer (5.4%), gynecologic cancer (6.0%), urological cancer (5.7%), prostate cancer (5.0%), colorectal cancer (5.0%), biliary tract cancer (5.0%), and skin cancer (5.0%). Teleconsultation was the most common type of telemedicine application, with 60% of it taking place in real time. Conclusion Because of its emphasis on providing high-quality health care while reducing costs, telemedicine has gained popularity in the majority of countries, with positive economic and social consequences. While telemedicine systems provide a variety of healthcare services, during the COVID-19 era, they do not currently provide many services to all cancer patients worldwide. Abstract
This meta-analysis of RCTs aimed to determine whether replacing face-to-face hospital care with telemedicine deteriorates psychosocial outcomes of adult cancer patients, in terms of quality of life (QoL), anxiety, distress, and depression. RCTs on interventions aimed at improving patient psychosocial outcomes were excluded. MEDLINE, EmBASE, and PsycInfo were searched on 13 May 2022 without language or date restrictions. In total, 1400 records were identified and 8 RCTs included (4434 subjects). Study methodological quality was moderate. Statistically significant improvements were observed in favor of the intervention for QoL (SMD = 0.22, 95% CI 0.01 to 0.43, p = 0.04), anxiety (SMD = −0.17, 95% CI −0.30 to −0.04, p < 0.01), and global distress (SMD = −0.38, 95% CI −0.51 to −0.25, p < 0.01). A meta-analysis on depression could not be performed. In subgroup analyses, the intervention appeared to be more beneficial for patients receiving active treatment vs. follow-up, for “other cancer types” vs. breast cancer, and for “other modes of administration” vs. telephone. Given the many potential advantages of being assisted at home, telemedicine appears to be a viable option in oncology. However, more research is necessary to determine the types of patients who may benefit the most from these alternative care modalities.

Abstract
Telehealth looks to be a viable tool to meet patients’ expectations and requirements during home treatment; however, there are obstacles to overcome. Palliative care has been described as ‘high touch’ rather than ‘high tech’, which may restrict healthcare workers’ enthusiasm in integrating technological advances into the development and refinement of interventions. As a result, the goal of this integrative review was to map and evaluate existing research on the use of telemedicine and telehealth in palliative care patients during the COVID-19 outbreak. This review was guided using the PRISMA Model and CASP guidelines. A total of 17 articles on the use of telehealth in palliative care satisfied the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the review. This integrative review provided more evidence for the function and application of telehealth in palliative care. It demonstrated the resiliency of individuals in swiftly adjusting to a new system or application and the adaptability of healthcare systems and providers in establishing an alternate means of providing treatment to patients during a crisis.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Supportive and palliative care services have been an important component of the overall COVID-19 pandemic response. However, significant changes in the provision and models of care were needed in order to optimize the care delivered to vulnerable cancer patients. This review discusses the evolution of palliative and supportive care service in response to the pandemic, and highlights remaining challenges. RECENT FINDINGS Direct competition for resources, as well as widespread implementation of safety measures resulted in major shifts in the mode of assessment and communication with cancer patients by supportive care teams. Telemedicine/virtual consultation and follow-up visits became an integral strategy, with high uptake and satisfaction amongst patients, families and providers. However, inequities in access to the required technologies were sometimes exposed. Hospice/palliative care unit (PCU) bed occupancy declined markedly because of restrictive visitation policies. Collection of patient-reported outcome (PRO) data was suspended in many cancer centers, with resulting under-recognition of anxiety and depression in ambulatory patients. As in many other areas, disparities in delivery of supportive and palliative care were magnified by the pandemic. SUMMARY Virtual care platforms have been widely adopted and will continue to be used to include a wider circle of family/friends and care providers in the provision of palliative and supportive care. To facilitate equitable delivery of supportive care within a pandemic, further research and resources are needed to train and support generalists and palliative care providers. Strategies to successfully collect PROs from all patients in a virtual manner must be developed and implemented.

Abstract
Background Chronic pain is a complex disease with high prevalence rates, and many individuals who are affected do not receive adequate treatment. As a complement to conventional therapies, eHealth interventions could provide many benefits to a multimodal treatment approach for patients with chronic pain, whereby future use is associated with the acceptance of these interventions. Objective This study aims to assess the acceptance of eHealth pain management interventions among patients with chronic pain and identify the influencing factors on acceptance. A further objective of the study is to evaluate the viability of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model and compare it with its extended version in terms of explained variance of acceptance. Methods We performed a cross-sectional web-based study. In total, 307 participants with chronic pain, as defined according to the International Association for the Study of Pain criteria, were recruited through flyers, posters, and web-based inquiries between December 2020 and July 2021. In addition to sociodemographic and medical data, the assessment included validated psychometric instruments and an extended version of the well-established UTAUT model. For statistical analyses, group comparisons and multiple hierarchical regression analyses were performed. Results The acceptance of eHealth pain management interventions among patients with chronic pain was overall moderate to high (mean 3.67, SD 0.89). There was significant difference in acceptance among age groups (W=9674.0; r=0.156; P=.04). Effort expectancy (β=.37; P<.001), performance expectancy (β=.33; P<.001), and social influence (β=.34; P<.001) proved to be the most important predictors of acceptance. The extended UTAUT (including the original UTAUT factors as well as sociodemographic, medical, and eHealth-related factors) model explained 66.4% of the variance in acceptance, thus supporting the viability of the model. Compared with the original UTAUT model (performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and social influence), the extended model explained significantly more variance (F25,278=1.74; P=.02). Conclusions Given the association between acceptance and future use, the knowledge of the influencing factors on acceptance should be used in the development and promotion of eHealth pain management interventions. Overall, the acceptance of eHealth pain management interventions was moderate to high. In total, 8 predictors proved to be significant predictors of acceptance. The UTAUT model is a valuable instrument for determining acceptance as well as the factors that influence acceptance of eHealth pain management interventions among patients with chronic pain. The extended UTAUT model provided the greatest predictive value for acceptance.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic radically shifted healthcare delivery to patients with cancer. Virtual cancer care, or the remote delivery of health care, has become an important resource for patients in Canada to maintain access to cancer care during the pandemic. With an increased number of people regularly accessing the internet and smartphones being ubiquitous for nearly all ages, technology in health care has grown. Virtual cancer care has been referenced as the fourth pillar of cancer care and it appears it may be here to stay. This article explores the benefits and challenges associated with virtual cancer care and outlines the importance of ensuring it is safe and equitable. Oncology nurses can identify where virtual care can be used to mitigate inequities and call attention when these tools exacerbate inequities.

Abstract
Specialists in palliative care view the family meeting as a means to engage patients and their families in a serious illness discussion that may clarify the values of patients and caregivers, provide information, determine care preferences, and identify sources of illness-related distress and burden. The family meeting is considered the best practice for achieving patient- and family-centered care in palliative care. Although studies of the family meeting are limited, those extant suggest that these interventions may reduce caregiver distress, mitigate the perception of unmet needs, prepare family members for caregiving, and improve bereavement outcomes. The experience of palliative care specialists further suggests that the family meeting may reinforce the therapeutic alliance with families, promote consensus, and reduce the need for ad hoc meetings. Physician satisfaction may be enhanced when the treatment plan includes the opportunity to show empathy and see the family’s perspective—core elements of the clinical approach to the family meeting. In the oncology setting, the potential to achieve these positive outcomes supports the integration of the family meeting into practice. Clinical skills for the planning and running of family meetings should be promoted with consideration of a standardized protocol for routine family meetings at critical points during the illness and its treatment using an interdisciplinary team. Further research is needed to refine understanding of the indications for the family meeting and determine the optimal timing, structure, and staffing models. Outcome studies employing validated measures are needed to better characterize the impact of family meetings on patient and family distress and on treatment outcomes. Although better evidence is needed to guide the future integration of the family meeting into oncology practice, current best practices can be recommended based on available data and the extensive observations of palliative care specialists.
