One step hydrothermal synthesis and characterization of moss like MWCNT-Bi2S3 nanomaterial for solid phase extraction of copper

The present work was designed with the aim to one step simple hydrothermal synthesis of moss like MWCNT-Bi2S3 nanomaterial as solid phase extraction sorbent for separation, preconcentration and determination of copper in tobacco and food samples. Cu(II) ions was strongly retained on the MWCNT-Bi2S3 nanomaterial at the pH 7.0 and was successfully desorbed by using 1.5mL of 4M HNO3. The copper concentration in eluent was determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometer. The certified reference material (NC SZC 73033 Scallion) was analyzed for the verification and accuracy of the proposed method. This work was interpreted statistically and found the analytical performance of the proposed method which consist of preconcentration factor (20), limit of quantification (13.1µgL-1) and relative standard deviation (2.2%), respectively. It was concluded that this method was applied for the detection of copper from different types of tobacco and food samples successfully.

Inorganic arsenic speciation in water samples by miniaturized solid phase microextraction using a new polystyrene polydimethyl siloxane polymer in micropipette tip of syringe system

The polymer, polystyrene polydimethyl siloxane was loaded into the micropipette tip of the syringe system as an adsorbent to developed miniaturized solid phase microextraction. Standard solutions of arsenate and arsenite were passed through the adsorbent loaded in micropipette tip to check the adsorption behaviors. It was observed that arsenate adsorbed on the polystyrene polydimethyl siloxane in the pH rang of 6-8, while arsenite was directly passed through the micropipette tip of syringe system. The adsorbed arsenate in micropipette tip of syringe system were eluted by 1.0M hydrochloric acid. The total inorganic arsenic contents were obtained by the addition of oxidizing agent potassium permanganate into the studied samples before passing to the micropipette tip of syringe system. Arsenite concentration in water samples were measured by subtracting arsenate from total inorganic arsenic concentration. Different characteristics which effect the determination of arsenate specie like amount of adsorbent, adsorption capacity, pH, pulled and pushed cycles for adsorption and desorption, volume of sample, eluent type and it volume were also studied in detail. Enrichment factor and detection limit of arsenate by desired method were 218 and 6.9ngL^-1 respectively. The relative standard deviation was 4.1% (n=10, C=0.12µgL^-1). Accuracy of the desired technique was confirmed by analysis of the CRMs (Lake Ontario Water TM-28.3 and Riverine Water NRCC-SLRS-4). Desired technique was significantly useful for determination of the total arsenic, arsenate, and arsenite contents in different natural water samples.

Utility of solid phase extraction for spectrophotometric determination of gold in water, jewel and ore samples

A highly sensitive, selective and rapid method for the determination μg L(-1) level of Au(III) based on the rapid reaction of Au(III) with 2,3-dichloro-6-(3-carboxy-2-hydroxy-1-naphthylazo)quinoxaline (DCHNAQ) and the solid phase extraction of the colored complex with a reversed phase polymer-based C18 cartridge have been developed. The DCHNAQ reacted with Au(III) to form a violet complex of a molar ratio 3:1 [DCHNAQ to Au(III)] in the presence of 5.0 M of phosphoric acid solution and Triton X-100 medium. This complex was enriched by the solid phase extraction with a polymer-based C18 cartridge. The enrichment factor of 100 was achieved. The molar absorptivity of the complex is 2.73×10(5) l mol(-1) cm(-1) at 633 nm in the measured solution. The system obeys Beer's law in the range of 0.02-1.30 μg ml(-1), whereas the optimum concentration ranges obtained from Ringbom plot was 0.08-1.24 μg ml(-1). The relative standard deviation for ten replicates sample of 0.6 μg ml(-1) level is 1.28%. The detection and quantification limits, are 6.1 and 19.5 ng ml(-1) in the original sample. This method was applied to the determination of gold in water, jewel and ore samples with good results comparing to the GFAAS method.

Selective separation and preconcentration of copper (II) in environmental samples by the solid phase extraction on multi-walled carbon nanotubes

A solid phase extraction method for selective separation-preconcentration of copper (II) on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) prior to its flame atomic absorption spectrometric determinations has been investigated. The adsorption was achieved quantitatively on MWNTs column at pH 7.0, then the retained Cu(II) contents on the column were quantitatively eluted with 2M HNO(3). The effects of analytical parameters including pH of the solution, eluent type, sample volume, flow rates of eluent, matrix ions etc. were investigated for optimization of the presented procedure. The preconcentration factor was 60. The detection limit for copper (II) was found as 1.46 microg/L. The method was applied to the determination of copper in environmental samples and reproducible results were obtained.
