Abstract
Noncatalytic reaction pathways for the gas-phase stereoinversion in aspartic acid are mapped employing a global reaction route mapping strategy using quantum mechanical computations. The species including the transition states (TSs) traced along the stereoinversion pathways are characterized using rotational and vibrational computational spectroscopic analysis while accounting for the vibrational corrections to rotational constants and anharmonic effects. Notably, the TS structures traced along the stereochemical pathways resemble the achiral ammonium ylide and imine intermediates as observed in the Strecker synthesis of chiral amino acids. A few of the probable stereoinversion pathways proposed proceed through the proton or hydrogen atom transfer. The feasibility of the pathways under conditions akin to interstellar medium (ISM) is further discussed in terms of natural bond orbital analysis. The stereoinversion pathways proposed in this work may proceed via photoirradiation in the ISM, which though can be revealed by exploring the excited-state potential energy surface. In this context, the spectroscopic data generated in this work can provide valuable assistance toward the astrophysical detection of chiral molecules in outer space.

Abstract
The potential energy surface (PES) is just a theoretical construct based on the Born-Oppenheimer approximation, but it underlies various phenomena, including molecular vibrations, collisional ionizations, and chemical reactions. This account describes how a new idea for global reaction route mapping (GRRM), which had seemed to be impossible for chemical systems with more than three atoms, was born and has been developed during the course of the study of the PES. GRRM has pioneered new fields of chemistry. Furthermore, techniques for GRRM are still developing, and GRRM is further extending its application to various areas of chemistry and chemical physics.

Abstract
This work reveals that though a single-water molecule decelerates the atmospheric reaction between the glycolaldehyde and OH radical, however, it facilitates the cis–trans interconversion along the hydrogen-abstraction pathways.

Abstract
2-Aminopropionitrile (APN), a probable candidate as a chiral astrophysical molecule, is a precursor to amino-acid alanine. Stereochemical pathways in 2-APN are explored using Global Reaction Route Mapping (GRRM) method employing high-level quantum-mechanical computations. Besides predicting the conventional mechanism for chiral inversion that proceeds through an achiral intermediate, a counterintuitive flipping mechanism is revealed for 2-APN through chiral intermediates explored using the GRRM. The feasibility of the proposed stereochemical pathways, in terms of the Gibbs free-energy change, is analyzed at the temperature conditions akin to the interstellar medium. Notably, the stereoinversion in 2-APN is observed to be more feasible than the dissociation of 2-APN and intermediates involved along the stereochemical pathways, and the flipping barrier is observed to be as low as 3.68 kJ/mol along one of the pathways. The pathways proposed for the inversion of chirality in 2-APN may provide significant insight into the extraterrestrial origin of life.

Abstract
Monodispersed conjugated oligothiophenes are receiving attention in fundamental and applied science due to their interesting optical, optoelectronic, and charge transport properties. These "low molecular weight" polymers serve as model structures for the corresponding polymer analogues, which are inherently polydispersed. Here we report the synthesis, electronic structure, molecular packing/morphology, and charge transport properties of monodispersed oligothiophenes with up to six didodecylquaterthiophene (DDQT) building block repeat units (i.e., 24 thiophene units). At the point where the effective conjugation length is reached, the electronic structure showed convergence behavior to the corresponding polymer, poly(3,3"-didodecyl-quaterthiophene) (PQT-12). X-ray crystal structure analysis of the dimer (DDQT-2) showed that terminal thiophenes exhibit syn-conformations, similar to the terminal syn-conformations observed in the trimer (DDQT-3). The dimer also exhibits a rare bending of the terminal alkyl side chains in order to prevent steric hindrance with neighboring hydrogens attached to core thiophenes. Grazing incidence X-ray scattering measurements revealed a morphology evolution from small molecule-like packing to polymer-like packing in thin films, with a morphology transition occurring near the effective conjugation length. Charge transport measurements showed a mobility increase with decreasing chain length. We correlated the molecular packing and morphology to charge transport and determined that carrier mobilities are most sensitive to crystallinity and crystal grain misorientation. This indicates that molecular weight is not a decisive factor for improved carrier mobility in the low molecular weight region, but rather the degree in crystallinity and in-plane crystal orientation. These results represent a fundamental advancement in understanding the relationship between conjugation length and carrier mobilities in oligothiophene semiconductors.
