Abstract
Background Crystallized intelligence (Gc) and fluid intelligence (Gf) are regarded as distinct intelligence components that statistically correlate with each other. However, the distinct neuroanatomical signatures of Gc and Gf in adults remain contentious. Methods Machine learning cross-validated elastic net regression models were performed on the Human Connectome Project Young Adult dataset (N = 1089) to characterize the neuroanatomical patterns of structural magnetic resonance imaging variables that are associated with Gc and Gf. The observed relationships were further examined by linear mixed-effects models. Finally, intraclass correlations were computed to examine the similarity of the neuroanatomical correlates between Gc and Gf. Results The results revealed distinct multi-region neuroanatomical patterns predicted Gc and Gf, respectively, which were robust in a held-out test set (R2 = 2.40, 1.97%, respectively). The relationship of these regions with Gc and Gf was further supported by the univariate linear mixed effects models. Besides that, Gc and Gf displayed poor neuroanatomical similarity. Conclusion These findings provided evidence that distinct machine learning-derived neuroanatomical patterns could predict Gc and Gf in healthy adults, highlighting differential neuroanatomical signatures of different aspects of intelligence.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the relationship between renal artery anatomical configuration and renal artery plaque (RAP) based on 320-row CT. METHODS The abdominal contrast-enhanced CT data from 210 patients was retrospectively analyzed. Among 210 patients, there were 118 patients with RAP and 92 patients with no RAP. The anatomical parameters between lesion group and control group were compared and analyzed by using t-test, χ2-test and logistic regression analysis. RESULTS (1) There were statistical differences on age, hypertension, diabetes, hypertriglyceridemia and hypercholesterolemia between lesion group and control group. (2) The differences on the distribution and type and of RAP between lesion group and control group were statistically significant. The most common position was the proximal, and the most common type was calcified plaque. (3)There were significant statistical differences on the proximal diameter of renal artery and renal artery-aorta angle A between lesion group and control group. The differences on the other anatomical factors between two groups were not statistically significant. (4) The result of logistic regression analysis showed that right RAP was related to age, hypertension and right renal artery angle A (the AUC of ROC = 0.82), and left RAP was related to high serum cholesterol, age and left renal artery angle A(the AUC of ROC = 0.83). (5) The RAP was associated with renal artery-aorta angle A, but the differences on distribution, type stability of RAP between R1 (L1) group and R2 (L2) group were not statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS The RAP was associated with age, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia and renal artery-aorta angle A. Adults which had the greater renal artery-aorta angle A and the other above risk factors may be at increased risk for RAP.

Brain White Matter Structural Alteration in Hemifacial Spasm: A Diffusion Tensor Imaging Study. J Craniofac Surg 2023; 34:674-679. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the changes in the white matter structure of the whole brain in hemifacial spasm (HFS) patients by using the tract-based spatial statistics (TBSS) method. MATERIALS AND METHODS 29 HFS patients without anxiety and depression and 29 healthy controls with matching age, sex, and education were selected. All subjects received a 3.0T magnetic resonance (MR) brain diffusion tensor imaging scan. Tract-based spatial statistics method was used to analyze the changes in white matter structure in the whole brain and obtained the cerebral white matter fibrous areas exhibiting significant intergroup differences. The fractional anisotropy (FA), mean diffusivity, axial diffusivity, and radial diffusivity of these areas were abstracted. Analyzed the correlation between these diffusion metrics and clinical variables (disease duration, spasm severity). RESULTS Compared with the healthy controls group, the HFS group exhibited significantly lower FA in the forceps minor, bilateral anterior thalamic radiation, and right superior longitudinal fasciculus ( P <0.05, threshold-free cluster enhancement corrected). Cohen grading scale of HFS patients was negatively correlated with FA of forceps minor. CONCLUSION Based on TBSS analysis, the injury of white matter fiber tracts in HFS patients was found, including forceps minor, bilateral anterior thalamic radiation, and right superior longitudinal fasciculus. The changes of FA values in forceps minor were negatively correlated with the Cohen grading scale, suggesting that the alteration of white matter fiber in the genu-of-corpus-callosum-cortex circuit plays an important role in the neuro-pathological mechanism of HFS. Combined with previous research, it is also necessary to further explore the change of the superior longitudinal fasciculus in the future.

Abstract
Background: Blepharospasm (BSP) and hemifacial spasm (HFS) are both facial hyperkinesia however BSP is thought to be caused by maladaptation in multiple brain regions in contrast to the peripherally induced cause in HFS. Plausible coexisting pathophysiologies between these two distinct diseases have been proposed. Objectives: In this study, we compared brain resting state functional connectivity (rsFC) and quantitative thermal test (QTT) results between patients with BSP, HFS and heathy controls (HCs). Methods: This study enrolled 12 patients with BSP, 11 patients with HFS, and 15 HCs. All subjects received serial neuropsychiatric evaluations, questionnaires determining disease severity and functional impairment, QTT, and resting state functional MRI. Image data were acquired using seed-based analyses using the CONN toolbox. Results: A higher cold detection threshold was found in the BSP and HFS patients compared to the HCs. The BSP and HFS patients had higher rsFC between the anterior cerebellum network and left occipital regions compared to the HCs. In all subjects, impaired cold detection threshold in the QTT of lower extremities had a correlation with higher rsFC between the anterior cerebellar network and left lingual gyrus. Compared to the HCs, increased rsFC in right postcentral gyrus in the BSP patients and decreased rsFC in the right amygdala and frontal orbital cortex in the HFS subjects were revealed when the anterior cerebellar network was used as seed. Conclusions: Dysfunction of sensory processing detected by the QTT is found in the BSP and HSP patients. Altered functional connectivity between the anterior cerebellar network and left occipital region, especially the Brodmann area 19, may indicate the possibility of shared pathophysiology among BSP, HFS, and impaired cold detection threshold. Further large-scale longitudinal study is needed for testing this theory in the future.

Abstract
Objective: Hemifacial spasm (HFS) is a kind of motor disorder, and the striatum plays a significant role in motor function. The purpose of this study was to explore the alterations of the cortical-striatal network in HFS using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Methods: The fMRI data of 30 adult patients with primary unilateral HFS (15 left-side and 15 right-side) and 30 healthy controls were collected. Six subregions of the striatum in each hemisphere were selected for functional connectivity (FC) analysis. One-sample t-test was used to analyze the intragroup FC of the HFS group and the control group. Two-sample t-test was used to compare the difference of FC between the two groups. The correlation between the abnormal FC and severity of HFS was evaluated by using the Spearman correlation analysis. Results: Compared with the controls, the striatal subregions had altered FC with motor and orbitofrontal cortex in patients with HFS. The altered FC between striatal subregions and motor cortex was correlated with the spasm severity in patients with HFS. Conclusion: The FC of the cortical-striatal network was altered in primary HFS, and these alterations were correlated with the severity of HFS. This study indicated that the cortical-striatal network may play different roles in the underlying pathological mechanism of HFS.

Abstract
Background: Increasing evidence suggests that the temporal and parietal lobes are associated with multisensory integration and vestibular migraine. However, temporal and parietal lobe structural and functional connectivity (FC) changes related to vestibular migraine need to be further investigated. Methods: Twenty-five patients with vestibular migraine (VM) and 27 age- and sex- matched healthy controls participated in this study. Participants completed standardized questionnaires assessing migraine and vertigo-related clinical features. Cerebral cortex characteristics [i.e., thickness (CT), fractal dimension (FD), sulcus depth (SD), and the gyrification index (GI)] were evaluated using an automated Computational Anatomy Toolbox (CAT12). Regions with significant differences were used in a seed-based comparison of resting-state FC conducted with DPABI. The relationship between changes in cortical characteristics or FC and clinical features was also analyzed in the patients with VM. Results: Relative to controls, patients with VM showed significantly thinner CT in the bilateral inferior temporal gyrus, left middle temporal gyrus, and the right superior parietal lobule. A shallower SD was observed in the right superior and inferior parietal lobule. FD and GI did not differ significantly between the two groups. A negative correlation was found between CT in the right inferior temporal gyrus, as well as the left middle temporal gyrus, and the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) score in VM patients. Furthermore, patients with VM exhibited weaker FC between the left inferior/middle temporal gyrus and the left medial superior frontal gyrus, supplementary motor area. Conclusion: Our data revealed cortical structural and resting-state FC abnormalities associated with multisensory integration, contributing to a lower quality of life. These observations suggest a role for multisensory integration in patients with VM pathophysiology. Future research should focus on using a task-based fMRI to measure multisensory integration.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To date, microvascular decompression has become the standard surgical treatment for hemifacial spasm. Microscopic microvascular decompression (MI-MVD) and endoscopic microvascular decompression (E-MVD) are both popular with surgeons. The present study aims to investigate whether MI-MVD and E-MVD show better results as surgical treatments for hemifacial spasm in the Chinese population. METHODS Electronic retrieval of articles on PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Wanfang Database was performed to identify comparative studies on Chinese patients who underwent MI-MVD and E-MVD from January 2000 to December 2020. After data extraction and quality assessment of the included studies, a meta-analysis was performed using the Review Manager 5.4 software. The pooled incidence of patient effective rate, detection rate of offensive blood vessels, total complication rate, and recurrence rate were calculated. RESULTS A total of 12 studies with 1122 patients (MI-MVD: 562, E-MVD: 560) were identified. The patient effective rate (MI-MVD: 89% vs E-MVD:97%, OR = 0.22, P < 0.00001) and detection rate of offensive blood vessels (MI-MVD:91% vs E-MVD:98%, OR = 0.17, P = 0.0002) showed patients with E-MVD were significantly higher than patients who underwent MI-MVD. However, the total complication rate (MI-MVD: 27% vs E-MVD:12%, OR = 2.92, P = 0.0002) and recurrence rates (MI-MVD:5.7% vs E-MVD:0.3%, OR = 8.8, P = 0.0005) showed patients with E-MVD were significantly lower than patients who underwent MI-MVD. In addition, the incidence of facial paralysis or weakness and hearing loss in E-MVD group was lower than that of in MI-MVD group, whereas no statistical difference was found between the two groups in terms of the incidence of cerebrospinal fluid leakage and intracranial infection. CONCLUSIONS While the operation of MI-MVD is relatively simple and the learning curve is short, E-MVD is better than MI-MVD in terms of treatment effect, overall complications, and recurrence rate. Therefore, E-MVD can be used as an alternative to MI-MVD in the treatment of hemifacial spasm in the Chinese population.

Volumetric and functional connectivity alterations in patients with chronic cervical spondylotic pain. Neuroradiology 2020; 62:995-1001. Abstract
PURPOSE To explore the structural and functional alterations of the whole brain in patients with chronic cervical spondylotic pain (cCSP). METHODS The whole-brain three-dimensional (3D) T1 and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) data were acquired in 31 patients with cCSP and 30 age- and sex-matched healthy controls. 3D T1 and rs-fMRI data were processed using statistical parametric mapping (SPM) and data processing and analysis of brain imaging (DPABI) toolbox. The parametric differences of voxel-based morphometry (VBM) and resting-state functional connectivity (rs-FC) were calculated between groups, then these measures were correlated with the score of visual analogue scale (VAS) and other clinical indices in patients with cCSP. RESULTS Patients with cCSP exhibited reduced gray matter volume (GMV) in the right middle cingulate cortex (MCC), right superior temporal gyrus (STG) and right precuneus compared to healthy controls. Furthermore, patients with cCSP displayed decreased functional connectivity between the right precuneus and bilateral medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC). Additionally, GMV of the right MCC, right STG, and right precuneus, together with rs-FC of the right precuneus to bilateral mPFC, were negatively correlated with the VAS respectively. CONCLUSIONS Our study revealed cerebral morphological and functional abnormalities during the pain process in patients with cCSP, which may provide alternative information for the treatment of cCSP.
