Abstract
AIM This paper provides a comprehensive review of the established concepts and newer developments related to computer-assisted implant rehabilitation. METHODS Two independent researchers searched the English literature published to 31st December 2023 in the PubMed/Medline database for primary and secondary research and related publications on computer-assisted implant planning, computer-assisted implant placement and computer-assisted implant restoration. RESULTS A total of 58,923 papers were identified, 198 relevant papers were read in full text and 110 studies were finally included. Computer-assisted implant rehabilitation was found to result in more precise implant positioning than freehand placement. Advantages include reduced trauma and surgery time; disadvantages include reduced primary implant stability and higher cost. CONCLUSION Computer-assisted surgery is particularly indicated in cases of critical anatomy, but may encounter limitations in terms of cost, restricted mouth opening, visibility and adjustment of the surgical guides and the need for prior familiarisation with the procedure. Nonetheless, this surgical technique reduces the post-implant placement complication rate.

Abstract
(1) The possibility of knowing information about the anatomy in advance, in particular the arrangement of the endodontic system, is crucial for successful treatment and for avoiding complications during endodontic therapy; the aim was to find a correlation between a minimally invasive and less stressful endodontic access on Ni-Ti rotary instruments, but which allows correct vision and identification of anatomical reference points, simplifying the typologies based on the shape of the pulp chamber in coronal three-dimensional exam views. (2) Based on the inclusion criteria, 104 maxillary molars (52 maxillary first molars and 52 maxillary second molars) were included in the study after 26 Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) acquisitions (from 15 males and 11 females). And linear measurements were taken with the CBCT-dedicated software for subsequent analysis. (3) The results of the present study show data similar to those already published about this topic. Pawar and Singh's simplified classification actually seems to offer a schematic way of classification that includes almost all of the cases that have been analyzed. (4) The use of a diagnostic examination with a wide Field of View (FOV) and low radiation dose represents an exam capable of obtaining a lot of clinical information for endodontic treatment. Nevertheless, the endodontic anatomy of the upper second molar represents a major challenge for the clinician due to its complexity both in canal shape and in ramification.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To retrospectively evaluate all cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans acquired from 2017 to 2022 in a Swiss university dental clinic with particular emphasis on radiation protection aspects. MATERIAL AND METHODS Radiological databases at the dental clinic of the University of Bern, Switzerland, were explored using a self-developed search algorithm. Data of all acquired CBCT from 01.01.2017 to 27.06.2022 were screened. Exposure parameters (exposure time, exposure angle, milliampere (mA), kilovoltage (kV), field of view (FOV) size), dose area product (DAP), age, and sex of the patient were recorded anonymously. The collected data were analyzed mainly descriptively. Correlations measured the statistical relationships between the variables. RESULTS A total of 10,348 CBCT datasets were analyzed. Patient age ranged from 5 to 96 years (mean: 49.4 years, SD: 21.6 years). The number of CBCTs in patients under 25 years was around 20% each year. In total, 10,313 (99.7%) CBCTs were acquired in small to medium FOV (FOV up to 10 cm of height), and 35 (0.3%) in large FOV (height > 10 cm). DAPs of small FOVs were 518.3 ± 233.2 mGycm2 (mean ± SD), of medium FOV 1233 ± 502.2 mGycm2, and of large FOV 2189 ± 368.7 mGycm2. DAP (ρ = 0.4048, p < 0.0001) and kV (ρ = 0.0210, p = 0.0327) correlated positively with age. Reduced scan angle correlated with young age (rpb 0.2729, p < 0.001). mA did not correlate with age (p = 0.3685). CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrates that certain well-known radiation protection aspects as the reduction of FOV, mA, kV, and scan angle were only partly considered. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Known radiation protection aspects, especially in young patients, should be fully applied in regular clinical practice.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) allows three-dimensional evaluation and has high diagnostic accuracy of endodontic conditions. Considering that the most indicated protocol for endodontics should have smaller field-of-view and higher spatial resolution, a higher radiation dose may be associated. Thus, this study evaluated the accuracy of an optimized CBCT protocol for the detection of intraoperative endodontic complications. METHODS An image phantom was custom-made with a human mandible covered with Mix-D and forty mandibular first molars. The teeth were subdivided into 4 groups of endodontic complications which were simulated. All teeth were individually inserted into the left second molar socket of the phantom and CBCT images were acquired with OP 300 unit adjusted to a field-of-view of 6 × 4 cm, 90kVp, and 2 dose protocols: low and high. Furthermore, a titanium implant, a tooth with endodontic treatment, and a cobalt-chromium post were inserted into the empty sockets adjacent to the teeth of interest and additional images were acquired. Four endodontists evaluated the images and indicated the presence of endodontic complications on a 5-point scale. Sensitivity, specificity, and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve were obtained. The different groups were compared by ANOVA and Tukey tests (α = 0.05). RESULTS In most conditions, irrespective of the presence of metallic materials, the values of accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve did not differ significantly (P > .05) between the dose protocols. CONCLUSIONS Optimized CBCT protocols should be considered for the detection of intraoperative endodontic Diagnostic complications.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the CBCT referrals in paediatric patients over a 24-month period. METHODS A retrospective study was conducted in two radiological centers in Campinas, Brazil. Patients were divided into three age groups: G1: age under 10 years, G2: age between 10 and 12 years, and G3: age over 12 years. The following data were collected: patients' age and sex, localisation, reasons for referral and dental specialty responsible for the request of CBCT exams. RESULTS Data from 367 patients were assessed. CBCT was used more frequently in the Group 3 (58.9%). There was significant association between the region of the exam and age group (P < 0.05), with a higher percentage of exams in the maxilla for the age over 12 years (35.6%) than that of up to 10 years (50.9%) and between 10 and 12 years (51.1%). Alterations were observed in 79.3% of the exams and 47.4% showed impacted teeth with significant association with the increase in age group (P < 0.05). Of the total number of exams, (55.3%) were requested in Orthodontics followed by Oral Surgery (30.0%) and Paediatric Dentistry (9.5%). CONCLUSIONS It can be concluded that CBCT exams were indicated frequently for the age over 12 years. The presence of impacted teeth represented the main reason for referrals and Orthodontics was the dental specialty that indicated CBCT with higher frequency.

Abstract
Personalized medicine refers to the tailoring of diagnostics and therapeutics to individuals based on one's biological, social, and behavioral characteristics. While personalized dental medicine is still far from being a reality, advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technologies with improved data analytic approaches are expected to integrate diverse data from the individual, setting, and system levels, which may facilitate a deeper understanding of the interaction of these multilevel data and therefore bring us closer to more personalized, predictive, preventive, and participatory dentistry, also known as P4 dentistry. In the field of dentomaxillofacial imaging, a wide range of AI applications, including several commercially available software options, have been proposed to assist dentists in the diagnosis and treatment planning of various dentomaxillofacial diseases, with performance similar or even superior to that of specialists. Notably, the impact of these dental AI applications on treatment decision, clinical and patient-reported outcomes, and cost-effectiveness has so far been assessed sparsely. Such information should be further investigated in future studies to provide patients, providers, and healthcare organizers a clearer picture of the true usefulness of AI in daily dental practice.

Abstract
The increasing use of computed tomography (CT) and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) in oral and maxillofacial imaging has driven the development of deep learning and radiomics applications to assist clinicians in early diagnosis, accurate prognosis prediction, and efficient treatment planning of maxillofacial diseases. This narrative review aimed to provide an up-to-date overview of the current applications of deep learning and radiomics on CT and CBCT for the diagnosis and management of maxillofacial diseases. Based on current evidence, a wide range of deep learning models on CT/CBCT images have been developed for automatic diagnosis, segmentation, and classification of jaw cysts and tumors, cervical lymph node metastasis, salivary gland diseases, temporomandibular (TMJ) disorders, maxillary sinus pathologies, mandibular fractures, and dentomaxillofacial deformities, while CT-/CBCT-derived radiomics applications mainly focused on occult lymph node metastasis in patients with oral cancer, malignant salivary gland tumors, and TMJ osteoarthritis. Most of these models showed high performance, and some of them even outperformed human experts. The models with performance on par with human experts have the potential to serve as clinically practicable tools to achieve the earliest possible diagnosis and treatment, leading to a more precise and personalized approach for the management of maxillofacial diseases. Challenges and issues, including the lack of the generalizability and explainability of deep learning models and the uncertainty in the reproducibility and stability of radiomic features, should be overcome to gain the trust of patients, providers, and healthcare organizers for daily clinical use of these models.

Abstract
The use of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) has been increasing in dental practice. This narrative review summarized the relevance and utilizations of CBCT to visualize anatomical structures of the maxillary sinus and common pathologies found in the maxillary sinus. The detection/visualization rate, the location and the morphometric characteristics were described. For sinus anatomy, the reviewed features included the posterior superior alveolar artery, sinus pneumatization, sinus hypoplasia, sinus septa, and primary and accessory sinus ostia. For pathology, the following items were reviewed: membrane thickening associated with periapical lesions/periodontal lesions, mucous retention cyst, and antrolith. The visualization and assessment of the maxillary sinus is very important prior to procedures that take place in close proximity with the sinus floor, such as tooth extraction, implant insertion, and sinus floor elevation. Some sinus pathologies may be associated with odontogenic lesions, such as periapical diseases and periodontal bone loss.
