Abstract
PURPOSE Helicobacter pylori could theoretically induce ocular adnexal lymphoma (OAL) via 2 mechanisms: the first is that of infection within the ocular adnexa and the second is that of infection within the gastric mucosa, leading to the malignant transformation of lymphocytes that migrate to the ocular adnexa, forming a primary "ectopic" cancer. This study investigated if an association exists between gastric H. pylori or ocular adnexal H. pylori and OAL. METHODS Prospective case-control study including cases with OAL and controls with nonlymphomatous pathologies. Gastric H. pylori infection was assessed via serologic antibody testing. Ocular adnexal infection was assessed via polymerase chain reaction testing for H. pylori and Chlamydia psittaci within ocular adnexal samples. RESULTS Seventy-two patients were enrolled, of whom 18 had lymphoma and 54 nonlymphomatous pathologies. H. pylori antibodies were present in 5 cases (28%) and 18 controls (33%) (95% CI, 0.24%-2.50%, p = 0.78). All ocular adnexal specimens were negative for H. pylori and C. psittaci infection. The only relevant statistically significant difference between cases and controls was a history of gastric ulcer (95% CI, 1.23%-44.80%, p = 0.03). CONCLUSIONS In the study's population, infection of gastric mucosa with H. pylori does not appear to influence the development of OAL. Also, H. pylori or C. psittaci infection within the ocular adnexa does not appear to influence the development of OAL. In the study's practice, authors do not recommend antibiotic administration or routine gastroscopy for patients with OAL. The authors do recommend referral of OAL patients with gastric symptoms to a gastroenterologist.

Abstract
Helicobacter pylori has been proposed as a possible etiologic factor of ocular adnexa lymphoma (OAL), although with conflicting results. To assess the involvement of H. pylori in OAL, as (1) H. pylori DNA positivity on OAL specimens, and (2) prevalence of H. pylori gastric infection in patients with OAL. A systematic review of studies assessing H. pylori in patients with OAL was conducted by searching electronic databases from their inception to May 2019. Pooled positivity for H. pylori in OAL specimens detected by polymerase chain reaction, and pooled prevalence of H. pylori gastric infection, were calculated with 95% confidence interval (CI). Eleven studies with 308 patients were included. Pooled positivity for H. pylori was 16.8% in all OALs and 22.7% in MALT OAL, with high heterogeneity among studies. Pooled prevalence of H. pylori gastric infection in patients with OAL was 34.7%, with low statistical heterogeneity. In conclusion, H. pylori seems to be involved in a subset of OAL, but the heterogeneity found needs to be investigated in further studies. The prevalence of H. pylori gastric infection in patients with OAL does not seem to differ from that of the general population.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To assess the prevalence of Chlamydia psittaci, Chlamydia pneumoniae, and Chlamydia trachomatis in ocular adnexa lymphoma (OAL) determined by molecular testing in different countries and the potential association of Chlamydia infection with mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) histotype by performing a systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS Electronic databases were searched for studies assessing the presence of Chlamydia in OAL. Pooled prevalence of the three Chlamydia species was calculated in each country. An odds ratio was calculated for the association between Chlamydia and MALT histotype, with a significant P < .05. RESULTS Thirty-seven studies with 1,188 OALs were included. Pooled prevalence of C psittaci, C pneumoniae, and C trachomatis by country was done. Chlamydia infection was significantly associated with MALT histotype (odds ratio, 2.183; P = .027). CONCLUSIONS The involvement of C psittaci in OAL is highly variable, with the highest prevalence in Italy and Korea. Chlamydia is associated with MALT histotype.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chlamydiae are spread globally and cause infectious diseases in both humans and animals. The existing detection methods for this disease have numerous shortcomings, including low sensitivity, time consuming procedures, and high contamination vulnerability. MATERIAL AND METHODS To overcome shortcomings for detecting animal chlamydiosis, a multiplex quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay was established for simultaneously detecting and differentiating 3 Chlamydia species (C. pecorum, C. abortus, and C. psittaci) by real time PCR based on TaqMan-MGB technology. RESULTS The limit of detection was 20.2 copies/µL for Chlamydophila (Cp.) abortus, 30.8 copies/µL for Cp. pecorum, and 16 copies/µL for Cp. psittaci. This method has good repeatability and stability as coefficients of variation range from 0.04% to 1.38%. Furthermore, compared with OIE (World Organization for Animal Health) recommended PCR assay and previously reported animal chlamydia shell PCR, this multiplex PCR assay demonstrated 99% concordance in detecting clinical samples of porcine nasal swabs and vaginal swabs. CONCLUSIONS The novel established method in this study was able to detect 3 types of Chlamydia species simultaneously, and had high sensitivity, strong specificity, and good stability. It provided a rapid, reliable, and convenient method for epidemiological and clinical diagnosis of chlamydiosis in animals.

Abstract
Lymphoproliferative diseases (LPDs) of the ocular adnexa encompass the majority of orbital diseases and include reactive follicular hyperplasia (RFH), atypical lymphoid hyperplasia (ALH), and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma (MALToma). Lymphoid follicles (LFs) are usually observed during the histological examination of LPDs. Currently, because there is a lack of specific clinical signs and diagnostic immunohistochemical biomarkers, it is difficult for pathologists to distinguish MALToma from ocular RFH and ALH, which makes the clinical management of these conditions difficult. Here, we analyzed the clinical features of patients with ocular adnexal LPDs (n = 125) and investigated the structure of LFs in paraffin-embedded tissue samples using anti-CD23 and anti-IgD immunochemistry. We found that some clinical features including age, sex, and laterality were different among RFH, LFH, and MALToma. Additionally, immunohistochemistry revealed that the expression of IgD and CD23 was higher in RFH patients and decreased in patients with ALH and MALToma. Moreover, LFs in RFH were intact, whereas the structures of most LFs were disrupted in ALH. In MALToma specimens, few intact LFs were observed. In a further investigation, we combined the results for CD23/IgD immunohistochemistry and the structure of LFs to establish a scoring method for the differential diagnosis of LPDs. According to the BIOMED-2 protocol, we further detected IgH gene monoclonal rearrangement in 73 cases (35 RFH, 17 ALH, and 21 MALToma cases). The sensitivity of our scoring method, based on a comparison with the results of IgH gene monoclonal rearrangement detection, was 85.7% (18/21) for MALToma and 35.3% (6/17) for ALH. Our study provides a method that may be useful for the differential diagnosis of RFH, ALH, and MALToma.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of the study was to evaluate the presence of cagA gene Helicobacter pylori in etiopathogenesis of initiation and development of larynx squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) and its predictable role as a prognostic factor. MATERIAL AND METHODS The prospective, controlled study involved a series of 75 patients (65 male, 10 female, mean age 59.1 years, range 43 to 79 years) with larynx cancer. Samples of larynx cancerous tissue, each of 10-15 mg, were obtained from fresh tissues and were used for nucleic acid purification. DNA was extracted from 225 samples (larynx tumor - I (75), margin of tumor and normal tissue - II (75) and normal larynx tissue from opposite side to the tumor - III). All samples were subjected to H. pylori ureA detection by the PCR H. pylori diagnostic test. Samples that were positive for ureA H. pylori gene were evaluated for cagA H. pylori gene. RESULTS Presence of H. pylori cagA gene was identified in 46,7% to 49,3% of 75 H. pylori ureA gene-positive larynx cancer depending of tissue location. There was a correlation of high incidence of positive cagA gene in larynx cancer tissue in supraglottic versus subglottic and glottic location. We observed a predominance of cagA gene in LSCC in patients with positive cervical lymph nodes and clinical stage T3 and T4. CONCLUSIONS H. pylori is present in larynx tissue and may be a possible carcinogen or co-carcinogen in LSCC development, but that must be addressed by future investigations. The presence of cagA gene in larynx cancer tissues significantly decreases survival rate and increases the disease recurrence possibilities.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Ocular surface malignancy is a serious complication in HIV infection, but can often result in successful treatment if diagnosed appropriately. In the literature, most reviews focus on information for the ophthalmic community. Here, we provide a review of the literature with the pertinent information for the nonophthalmologist, as they are the first point of contact for most HIV patients. RECENT FINDINGS Ocular surface squamous neoplasia (OSSN) is the most common nonpigmented ocular surface malignancy. It can be treated well with surgery or topical chemotherapy, the newest method of treatment. When presenting in young patients, a high percentage have been found to be HIV positive. Kaposi's sarcoma is an AIDS-defining malignancy and critical to diagnose. It cannot be cured, but treatment is effective for keeping it controlled. Conjunctival lymphoma can be recognized with the salmon patch appearance. External beam radiation, systemic chemotherapy, and intralesional injections are the mainstays of treatment. SUMMARY Ocular surface malignancy manifests significantly in the HIV population. OSSN, Kaposi's sarcoma and conjuctival lymphoma all have different clinical presentations. The capacity of the managing physician to recognize these tumours and refer to an ophthalmologist is essential for appropriate treatment.
