Abstract
Background and Objectives: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a pathological state characterized by a combined set of abnormal movements including slow motion, resting tremors, profound stiffness of skeletal muscles, or obvious abnormalities in posture and gait, together with significant behavioral changes. Until now, no single therapeutic modality was able to provide a complete cure for PD. This work was a trial to assess the immunomodulatory effects of canagliflozin with or without levodopa/carbidopa on rotenone-induced parkinsonism in Balb/c mice. Materials and Methods: In a mouse model of PD, the effect of canagliflozin with or without levodopa/carbidopa was assessed at the behavioral, biochemical, and histopathological levels. Results: The combination of levodopa/carbidopa and canagliflozin significantly mitigated the changes induced by rotenone administration regarding the behavioral tests, striatal dopamine, antioxidant status, Nrf2 content, SIRT-1/PPAR-gamma axis, RAGE/HMGB1/NF-κB signaling, and mitochondrial dysfunction; abrogated the neuroinflammatory responses, and alleviated the histomorphologic changes induced by rotenone administration relative to the groups that received either levodopa/carbidopa or canagliflozin alone. Conclusions: Canagliflozin may represent a new adjuvant therapeutic agent that may add value to the combatting effects of levodopa/carbidopa against the pathological effects of PD.

Abstract
Background Rehabilitation is recognized as an effective means of alleviating the symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD) and improving the physical and cognitive functions of patients with PD. However, research often focuses on short-term outcomes such as functioning and quality of life. This study investigated the association between the length of stay in rehabilitation and mortality among patients with PD. Methods Using the Korean National Health Insurance Service database, we identified 636 participants diagnosed with PD who received rehabilitation. The main outcome was all-cause mortality. We used a Cox proportional hazards regression model to examine the relationship between length of stay in rehabilitation and mortality among patients with PD. Results The final sample comprised 374 females (58.81%) and 262 males (41.19%). A survival analysis revealed a significant association between the length of stay in rehabilitation and mortality, with a decrease in mortality of 16.1% in patients with PD who received one year of rehabilitation (hazard ratio = 0.839, 95% confidence interval = 0.788-0.895). Conclusion Our findings underscore the potential benefits of timely implementation of rehabilitative interventions in patients with PD and the need for comprehensive and long-term rehabilitation strategies. It also highlights the necessity of such services for patients with PD and the importance of developing patient-centered rehabilitation guidelines.

Abstract
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder affecting about 10 million people worldwide with a prevalence of about 2% in the over-80 population. The disease brings in also a huge annual economic burden, recently estimated by the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research to be USD 52 billion in the United States alone. Currently, no effective cure exists, but available PD medical treatments are based on symptomatic prescriptions that include drugs, surgical approaches and rehabilitation treatment. Due to the complex biology of a PD brain, the design of clinical trials and the personalization of treatment strategies require the identification of accessible and measurable biomarkers to monitor the events induced by treatment and disease progression and to predict patients' responsiveness. In the present review, we strive to briefly summarize current knowledge about PD biomarkers, focusing on the role of extracellular vesicles as active or involuntary carriers of disease-associated proteins, with particular attention to those research works that envision possible clinical applications.

Abstract
Background Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive disease, which is associated with the loss of activities of daily living independency. Several rehabilitation options have been studied during the last years, to improve mobility and independency. Objective This systematic review will focus on inpatient multidisciplinary rehabilitation (MR) in people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD), based on recent studies from 2020 onwards. Methods Search strategy in three databases included: multidisciplinary rehabilitation, Parkinson's Disease, inpatient rehabilitation, motor-, functional- and cognitive performance, cost-effectiveness, Quality of Life, and medication changes/Levodopa equivalent daily doses. Results Twenty-two studies were included, consisting of 13 studies dealing with inpatient MR and 9 studies on inpatient non-MR interventions. Inpatient PD multidisciplinary rehabilitation proved to be effective, as well as non-MR rehabilitation. Conclusions This review confirms the efficacy of inpatient MR and non-MR in PD, but is skeptical about the past and current study designs. New study designs, including new physical training methods, more attention to medication and costs, new biomarkers, artificial intelligence, and the use of wearables, will hopefully change rehabilitation trials in PwPD in the future.

Abstract
The Voice Handicap Index (VHI) is a patient-centered evaluation tool specifically designed for assessing voice-related quality of life. Although the VHI has been extensively used in patients with voice disorders, its applicability in stroke patients has not been fully established. This prospective cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the feasibility of using the VHI questionnaire in identifying stroke patients with voice problems. The study included a cohort of acute to subacute first-ever stroke patients (n = 48), with or without voice problems, as well as other non-stroke patients (n = 31) who agreed to complete the VHI questionnaire. Stroke patients with self-reported voice problems demonstrated significantly higher VHI scores and poorer life quality scores compared to the control groups. These patients also had lower Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Modified Barthel Index (MBI), and Euro-QoL-5D-5L (EQ-5D-5L) scores. Spearman correlation analysis revealed an inverse association between VHI scores and EQ-5D-5L (rho = -0.77, p < 0.001), Korean Mann Assessment of Swallowing Ability (rho = -0.51, p < 0.001), and other functional parameters, including the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale, MMSE, and MBI scores. Multiple regression analysis indicated that the VHI score was the biggest contributing factor to EQ scores. This is the first study to demonstrate that stroke patients with voice problems may experience reduced quality of life, even after controlling for other confounding factors such as dysphagia or neurological deficits. Future studies are needed whether addressing these issues by implementing the VHI may facilitate the improvement of patients' quality of life.
