Abstract
Cooperative photoredox- and nickel-catalyzed alkylative cyclization reactions of iodoalkynes with 4-alkyl-1,4-dihydropyridines as alkylation reagents under visible light irradiation have been achieved to afford the corresponding alkylated cyclopentylidenes in good to high yields. Introduction of substituents at the propargylic position of iodoalkynes has led to the stereoselective formation of E-isomers. The present reaction system provides a novel synthetic method for alkylative cyclization reactions of both terminal and internal alkynes with cooperative photoredox and nickel catalysis.

Abstract
Tetrahydrophthalazine derivatives have found important applications in pharmaceutical research, but existing synthetic methods are unable to access them regio- and stereoselectively. Here, a new approach is presented that addresses these challenges by utilizing a 6-endo-trig radical cyclization in the key step. The desired tetrahydrophthalazines can be accessed in high yields (55-98 %) and high diastereoselectivities for the trans-product (>95:5) starting either from readily accessible hydrazones, or from the corresponding aldehydes and substituted Boc-hydrazides in a one-pot process. The synthetic versatility of the tetrahydrophthalazine core was demonstrated by its straightforward conversion to dihydro-phthalazines, phthalazines, or pyrazolo dione derivatives. Furthermore, the N-N bond was reduced to afford a new route to 1,4-diamines.

Abstract
An enantioselective total synthesis of martinellic acid is described. The pyrroloquinoline alkaloid core is efficiently prepared from a quinoline, employing a method which relies on a newly developed Cu-catalyzed enantioselective alkynylation using the chiral imidazole-based biaryl P,N ligand StackPhos to establish the absolute stereochemistry. The remaining carbon atoms are then installed by means of a diastereoselective Pd-catalyzed decarboxylative allylation and the synthesis is completed after straightforward functional-group manipulation. This new synthetic method enables the most concise enantioselective synthesis of this important class of molecules to date.

Abstract
The intermolecular thiol-ene reaction is emerging as a highly efficient; free-radical mediated "click" process with diverse applications in biofunctionalisation and materials science. The related intramolecular thiol-ene reactions offer significant potential for the preparation of a wide range of sulphur containing heterocycles including synthetic therapeutics such as cyclic peptides and thiosugars. Herein, we review recent advances in intramolecular thiyl-radical mediated reactions and their applications for synthetic and medicinal chemistry.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pyrazole oxime ether derivatives with different substituted pyridyl rings represent new types of compounds that possess good insecticidal and acarcidal activity against Aphis laburni Kaltenbach and Tetranychus cinnabarinus. RESULTS In total, 82 novel pyrazole oxime ether derivatives were synthesized and identified by (1) H NMR, elemental analysis or high-resolution mass spectrometry, and their insecticidal and acarcidal activities were tested against A. laburni Kaltenbach and T. cinnabarinus. Bioassays showed that at a 200 mg L(-1) dosage, one-third of the compounds displayed high insecticidal activity against A. laburni Kaltenbach (> 90%), whereas most of of the compound II series exhibited excellent acarcidal activity against T. cinnabarinus (> 92%). Most compound II series exhibited good activity in both insecticidal and acarcidal tests. In addition, at a low concentration of 10 mg L(-1) , the insecticidal activity of compounds IB9 and IE4 exceeded 90%, and the acarcidal activity of compounds IIB1 and IIB2 was ≥ 95%. CONCLUSION Structure-activity relationships were also examined. Results suggested that the tert-butoxycarbonyl group, as well as the position between tert-butoxycarbonyl and the atom N of the pyridyl ring, were essential to obtaining the acarcidal activity of the title compounds.

Abstract
A high-yielding total asymmetric synthesis of (-)-martinellic acid is reported. The conjugate addition of lithium (R)-N-allyl-N-(α-methyl-4-methoxybenzyl)amide to tert-butyl (E)-3-[2'-(N,N-diallylamino)-5'-bromophenyl]propenoate and alkylation of the resultant β-amino ester have been used as the key steps to install the C(9b) and C(3a) stereogenic centers, respectively, and a highly diastereoselective Wittig reaction/intramolecular Michael addition was then used to create the C(4) stereogenic center within this tricyclic molecular architecture.
