Abstract
A pulse compressing technology of single-frequency Q-switched laser based on the cascaded four-wave mixing (CFWM) effect is demonstrated theoretically and experimentally, for the first time to the best of our knowledge. A theoretical model of the pulse compression is established through deconstructing the pulse duration evolution in the high-order Stokes and anti-Stokes lights of CFWM. A pulse compression ratio of (2|m|+1)1/2 is quantificationally obtained with m corresponding to the order number of the CFWM light. Utilizing dual-wavelength (DW) single-frequency Q-switched laser injected into a highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF), the pulse compression and the spectral broadening phenomenon are observed simultaneously. As the order number of the CFWM light increases from 0-order to 3-order, the pulse duration has reduced from 115 ns to 47 ns with a compression ratio of 2.45, which is essentially consistent with the theoretical analysis. The pulse compressing technique by CFWM is conducive to promoting the performance development of the single-frequency Q-switched laser, which can improve the system precision in the Lidar, trace gas detection, and high-precision ranging. Furthermore, this technology based on time-frequency transformation dynamics may be generally applicable to other single-frequency pulsed fiber lasers.

Abstract
The wavelength of a femtosecond Ti:sapphire laser (TS, 800 nm) was converted into the ultraviolet (UV, 200 nm) using three β-barium borate crystals (β-BaB2O4) for frequency doubling and subsequent mixing. The UV pulse was further converted into the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV, 185 nm) based on four-wave Raman mixing, in which a two-color pump beam consisting of the fundamental beam (800 nm) of the TS and the signal beam of an optical parametric amplifier (1200 nm) pumped by the TS was focused onto a capillary waveguide filled with hydrogen gas for molecular phase modulation and the single-color UV probe beam (200 nm) was then focused onto the waveguide for frequency modulation to generate anti-Stokes and high-order Stokes Raman sidebands at wavelengths of 185 and 218-267 nm, respectively. The efficiency of conversion from the UV (200 nm) to the VUV (185 nm) was 6%. The ionization energy was calculated for 13 amino polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons using density functional theory, since they are associated with the development of occupational bladder cancers. The values calculated by the B3LYP/cc-pVDZ and ωB97Xd/cc-pVTZ methods were 6.24-7.14 eV (199-174 nm) and 6.41-7.35 eV (194-169 nm), respectively. A sample containing a mixture of 9-aminoanthracene, 3-aminofluoranthene, and 1-aminopyrene was separated by gas chromatography (GC), and the eluents were ionized with the VUV pulse (0.015 μJ) in mass spectrometry (MS). The analytes were observed on a two-dimensional display of GC/MS, and the detection limit obtained by single-photon ionization of 3-aminofluoranthene was 1 ng/μL.

Abstract
We investigate the macroscopic physics of noncollinear high harmonic generation (HHG) at high pressures. We make the first experimental demonstration of phase matching of noncollinear high-order-difference-frequency generation at ionization fractions above the critical ionization level, which normally sets an upper limit on the achievable cutoff photon energies. Additionally, we show that noncollinear high-order-sum-frequency generation requires much higher pressures for phase matching than single-beam HHG does, which mitigates the short interaction region in this geometry. We also dramatically increase the experimentally realized cutoff energy of noncollinear circularly polarized HHG, reaching photon energies of 90 eV. Finally, we achieve complete angular separation of high harmonic orders without the use of a spectrometer.

Abstract
A method is described for generating intense pulsed vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) and extreme ultraviolet (XUV) laser radiation by resonance enhanced four-wave mixing of commercial pulsed nanosecond lasers in laser vaporized mercury under windowless conditions. By employing noncollinear mixing of the input beams, the need of dispersive elements such as gratings for separating the VUV/XUV from the residual UV and visible beams is eliminated. A number of schemes are described, facilitating access to the 9.9-14.6 eV range. A simple and convenient scheme for generating wavelengths of 125 nm, 112 nm, and 104 nm (10 eV, 11 eV, and 12 eV) using two dye lasers without the need for dye changes is described.

Abstract
We demonstrate the versatile broadband wavelength tunability of frequency upconverted multicolor cascaded four-wave-mixing (CFWM) signals spanning the continuous wavelength range from UV to near IR in a thin type-I BBO crystal using 35 fs, 800 nm fundamental and chirped IR supercontinuum white light pulses. Two sets of spatially dispersed CFWM laser sidebands are concomitantly generated from two incident pulses as well as their second-harmonic-generation and sum-frequency-generation pulses in a crossing geometry. The tunable cascaded signals with ultrabroad bandwidth can be readily achieved via spatially rotating the BBO crystal to different phase-matching conditions and temporally varying the time delay between the two incident near-IR pulses.
