F-number matching method in light field microscopy using an elastic micro lens array

Autostereoscopic-Raman Spectrometry-Based Three-Dimensional Metrology System for Measurements, Tracking and Identification in a Volume

Three-dimensional compound measurement within a volume of interest is of great importance in industrial manufacturing and the biomedical field. However, there is no current method that can simultaneously perform spatial localization and 3D measurement in a non-scanning manner as well as the identification of material in a volume. In this paper, an Autostereoscopic-Raman Spectrometry-based (ARS) three-dimensional measurement system is proposed. The target object in a large depth range is initially positioned by the autostereoscopic 3D measurement method, and then the accurate position information is cross-checked and obtained by combining the spectral signal. Meanwhile, the spectral signal at the precise excitation position guided by the autostereoscopic signal also carries the material composition information. In order to verify the proposed ARS method, an associated measurement system was developed, and experimental studies of detecting various fibers of different depths in multi-layer glass structure were conducted. The spatial locations and dimensional information of multiple different targets can be measured in a volume, and their material can also be identified at the same time. The average error between the calculated position processed by the ARS system and the actual spatial position is within sub-micron levels, and the success rate of spectrum acquisition reaches 98%.

Scalable 3D printing of aperiodic cellular structures by rotational stacking of integral image formation

The limitation of projection microstereolithography in additive manufacturing methods is that they typically use a single-aperture imaging configuration, which restricts their ability to produce microstructures in large volumes owing to the trade-off between image resolution and image field area. Here, we propose an integral lithography based on integral image reconstruction coupled with a planar lens array. The individual microlenses maintain a high numerical aperture and are used to create digital light patterns that can expand the printable area by the number of microlenses (10³ to 10⁴), thereby allowing for the scalable stereolithographic fabrication of 3D features that surpass the resolution-to-area scaling limit. We extend the capability of integral lithography for programmable printing of deterministic nonperiodic structures through the rotational overlapping or stacking of multiple exposures with controlled angular offsets. This printing platform provides new possibilities for producing periodic and aperiodic microarchitectures spanning four orders of magnitude from micrometers to centimeters.

Dual-dimensional microscopy: real-time in vivo three-dimensional observation method using high-resolution light-field microscopy and light-field display

Here, we present dual-dimensional microscopy that captures both two-dimensional (2-D) and light-field images of an in-vivo sample simultaneously, synthesizes an upsampled light-field image in real time, and visualizes it with a computational light-field display system in real time. Compared with conventional light-field microscopy, the additional 2-D image greatly enhances the lateral resolution at the native object plane up to the diffraction limit and compensates for the image degradation at the native object plane. The whole process from capturing to displaying is done in real time with the parallel computation algorithm, which enables the observation of the sample's three-dimensional (3-D) movement and direct interaction with the in-vivo sample. We demonstrate a real-time 3-D interactive experiment with Caenorhabditis elegans.

Printed cylindrical lens pair for application to the seam concealment in tiled displays

Seamless tiling of displays is one of the key enabling technologies for the next-generation large-area electronics applications. In this paper, we propose a facile method to demonstrate a seamless display using cylindrical lens pair (CLP) fabricated by dispenser printing method. Optical properties of the printed CLP and corresponding capability of concealing seam in the display are analyzed by a set of luminance simulation and measurement in terms of geometric parameters of the lens. The seamless display with an optimized CLP features a viewing angle of the seam concealment of 40°.

Separation of foreground and background from light field using gradient information

Studies of computer vision or machine vision applications using a light field camera have been increasing in recent years. However, the abilities that the light field camera has are not fully used in these applications. In this paper, we propose a method for direct separation of foreground and background that uses the gradient information and can be used in various applications such as pre-processing. From an optical phenomenon whereby the bundles of rays from the background are flipped, we derive that the disparity sign of the background in the captured three-dimensional scene has the opposite disparity sign of the foreground. Using the majority-weighted voting algorithm based on the gradient information with the Lambertian assumption and the gradient constraint, the foreground and background can be separated at each pixel. In regard to pre-processing, the proposed method can be used for various applications such as occlusion and saliency detection, disparity estimation, and so on. Experimental results with the EPFL light field dataset and Stanford Lytro light field dataset show that the proposed method achieves better performance in terms of the occlusion detection, and thus can be effectively used in pre-processing for saliency detection and disparity estimation.
