Abstract
BACKGROUND Prior research exploring the correlation between the XRCC3 Thr241Met polymorphism and the susceptibility to pancreatic cancer has yielded conflicting outcomes. To date, there has been a notable absence of studies examining this polymorphism. The primary aim of the current investigation is to elucidate the potential role of the XRCC3 Thr241Met polymorphism as a risk factor in the development of pancreatic cancer. METHODS The comprehensive literature search was meticulously conducted across primary databases, including PubMed, Embase, and CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure), spanning from the inception of each database through January 2024. To synthesize the data, a meta-analysis was performed using either a fixed or random-effects model, as appropriate, to calculate the odds ratios (ORs) and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS The analysis revealed significant associations between the XRCC3 Thr241Met polymorphism and an increased risk of pancreatic cancer. This was evidenced through various genetic model comparisons: allele contrast (T vs. C: OR = 0.77, 95% CI = 0.70-0.86, P < 0.001), homozygote comparison (TT vs. CC: OR = 0.71, 95% CI = 0.58-0.88, P = 0.001), heterozygote comparison (TC vs. CC: OR = 0.67, 95% CI = 0.52-0.87, P = 0.003), and a dominant genetic model (TT/TC vs. CC: OR = 0.68, 95% CI = 0.57-0.81, P < 0.001). Additionally, subgroup analyses based on ethnicity disclosed that these associations were particularly pronounced in the Caucasian population, with all genetic models showing significance (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The XRCC3 Thr241Met polymorphism has been identified as contributing to a reduced risk of pancreatic cancer in the Caucasian population. This finding underscores the need for further research to validate and expand upon our conclusions, emphasizing the urgency for continued investigations in this domain.

Abstract
The association of Interleukin-18 (IL-18) genetic polymorphism with lung cancer risk has yielded inconsistent findings in previous studies. The current research aims to clarify the relationship of IL-18 gene polymorphism with lung cancer susceptibility through experimental investigation and meta-analysis, providing insights for lung cancer prevention and treatment. We conducted a thorough search of major databases from their inception until March 2024. OR and 95%CI were calculated to know the results of meta-analysis. The IL-18 gene polymorphism was detected using the PCR-RFLP method. Significant associations were detected across all genetic models in allele contrast (A vs. C: Odds Ratio [OR] = 1.29, 95% Confidence Interval [CI] = 1.07-1.55, p = 0.006), homozygote comparison (AA vs. CC: OR = 1.87, 95%CI = 1.34-2.62, p < 0.001), recessive genetic model (AA vs. CT/CC: OR = 1.54, 95%CI = 1.08-2.20, p = 0.018), and dominant genetic model (AA/AC vs. CC: OR = 1.41, 95%CI = 1.12-1.78, p = 0.003). Three genotypes (AA, AC, and CC) were identified for the IL-18 -607 C/A polymorphism, with significant associations noted for the AA genotype and A allele (p = 0.018 and 0.005, respectively). This is the first study which investigates this polymorphism with lung cancer in population of eastern China. The IL-18 -607 C/A polymorphism appears to significantly increase the risk of lung cancer in the population of Eastern China. Further research is imperative to validate these findings.

Abstract
The current research aims to investigate the relationship between Interleukin-17 (IL-17) polymorphism and the risk of recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) within a Chinese population. Totally, 120 patients with RPL were selected and enrolled as the experiment group. Additionally, 210 healthy individuals undergoing routine physical examinations during the same period served as the control group. The IL-17 gene polymorphism was detected by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism method. The IL-17 rs2275913 polymorphism exhibited 3 genotypes: GG, GA, and AA. Significant associations were observed with the AA genotype and A allele (all P < .05), indicating women with the AA genotype were 2.06 times more likely to experience RPL compared to those with the GG genotype. Similarly, women carrying the A allele faced a 1.63 times higher risk of RPL than those with the G allele. Regarding the IL-17 rs763780 polymorphism, which also presented 3 genotypes (TT, TC, CC), significant associations were noted for the CC genotype and C allele (all P < .05). Women with the CC genotype had a 1.84 times greater risk of suffering from RPL compared to those with the TT genotype, and those with the C allele were 1.51 times more likely to experience RPL than those with the T allele. The IL-17 rs2275913 and rs763780 polymorphisms contribute an increased risk to RPL in the Chinese population. Further studies, with larger sample sizes and more rigorous designs, are necessary to validate or replicate our current results.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The current study aims to explore the relationship between tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) polymorphism and the risk of primary nephrotic syndrome (PNS). METHODS A total of 250 PNS patients were selected for this study, as well as 300 volunteers serving as the control group. TNF-α polymorphism were assessed using the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism method. In addition, a meta-analysis was conducted to analyze previously published literature on this topic. RESULTS No significant differences were observed in the genotypes frequency or alleles frequency among the study populations. Meta-analysis results revealed a positive association between TNF-α rs1800629 polymorphism and allele contrast in African populations (p = 0), homozygote comparison (p = .007), heterozygote comparison (p = .026), recessive genetic model (p = .011), and dominant genetic model (p = .000). CONCLUSIONS TNF-α rs1800629 polymorphism does not appear to confer any increased risk for PNS.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to explore the clinical characteristics and risk factors associated with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) when coexisting with vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VAIN). METHODS We analyzed the clinical data of 212 patients diagnosed with CIN, including 50 patients with concurrent VAIN. The groups were compared to identify distinct clinical features and independent risk factors for the co-occurrence of CIN and VAIN, using logistic regression analysis. RESULTS Patients with both CIN and VAIN had a median age of 57, significantly older than the 41-year median age of patients with CIN only (P < 0.05). A higher prevalence of HPV infection (98.0%) was observed in the CIN and VAIN group, with a notable rate of multiple HPV infections (67.3%) compared to the CIN-only group (P < 0.05). Educational levels were significantly lower in the combined CIN and VAIN group (P < 0.05). HPV16, 33, and 52 were identified as significant types for single and multiple infections. Multivariate analysis confirmed age as an independent risk factor for CIN with VAIN (P < 0.05). VAIN3 patients were more likely to exhibit HSIL and ASC-H, whereas VAIN1 cases tended to correspond with ASCUS and LSIL diagnoses. CONCLUSION The co-occurrence of CIN and VAIN is significantly influenced by patient age and educational level. The findings advocate for more diligent vaginal examination during colposcopy in older patients, particularly those with multiple HPV infections and cytological abnormalities, to enhance the early detection of vaginal lesions and prevent missed diagnoses and treatments. Additionally, the high prevalence of HPV infection, especially with certain types, underscores the importance of HPV monitoring in this patient population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND With rapid progression, severe illness and high fatality rate, sepsis has become an acute and critical condition that seriously threatens human life and health. OBJECTIVE To detect miR-210 and miR-494 expression in patients with sepsis and their relationship with severity and prognosis. METHODS A total of 165 sepsis patients participated, including 105 patients with septic non-shock and 60 patients with septic shock. 53 sepsis patients died in 28 days, and 112 patients survived. The clinical information of all sepsis patients was retrospectively searched and reviewed. Based on the status of 28-day survival, they were categorized into survival group and death group. The expression levels in each group were compared on the first, third and seventh day. The ROC curve was applied to know the expression level of plasma miR-210 and miR-494 to predict the death. RESULTS The two miRNAs expression of the septic shock group were significantly higher than that in sepsis non-shock group on the first, third and seventh day (all were P< 0.05). The ROC curve found that the AUC combined to predict the death on the third day was the largest, which was 0.925 (95%CI: 0.864-0.983). The sensitivity and specificity were 94.6% and 86.3%, respectively. CONCLUSION The increased expression levels of plasma miR-210 and miR-494 are closely relevant to the severity and prognosis of sepsis patients. Combining the two items on the third day can predict the death of sepsis patients.

Abstract
The current investigation aims to explore the relationship between matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3) gene polymorphism and ovarian cancer (OC) risk. Two hundred forty pathologically confirmed OC patients and 390 healthy controls participated in the present investigation. Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism was applied to investigate the present polymorphism. At the same time, the meta-analysis was also performed to comprehensively explore the relationship. Three genotypes (5A/5A, 5A/6A, and 6A/6A) were observed for MMP-3 gene polymorphism. 6A/6A genotype and 6A allele displayed significant increase in OC patients (all P < .05). Meta-analysis found that no significant results (all P > .05). In conclusion, our results indicate that MMP-3 gene polymorphism contributes increased risk to OC for southern Chinese population. And meta-analysis indicates that MMP-3 gene polymorphism contributes no risk to OC in other populations.

Abstract
Purpose This paper aims to study the relationship between lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) and GDM (gestational diabetes mellitus) by detecting Lp-PLA2 level and its gene polymorphism. Patients and Methods From January to June 2022, 82 GDM patients treated in our hospital were included as an experimental group, and 89 healthy pregnant women during the same period were selected as the control group. Lp-PLA2 concentration and TG, TC, HDL-C, and LDL-C levels were tested with specialized instruments in clinical laboratories. The PLA2G7 gene polymorphisms (rs1805017, rs1805018, and rs76863441) were detected by fluorescent probe method and sequencing. Results Lp-PLA2 concentration was significantly higher in GDM group than control group (P<0.05). Among three polymorphism loci of PLA2G7 gene (rs1805017, rs1805018, and rs76863441) the significant associations were only found in GT genotype of rs76863441 loci (P<0.05). Conclusion Pregnant women with high levels of Lp-PLA2 concentration are more likely to develop GDM, especially those with PLA2G7 rs76863441 polymorphism. Lp-PLA2 concentration and PLA2G7 rs1805017 polymorphism may be a novel marker for GDM diagnosis and prediction.

Abstract
Regulatory T cells (Treg), as members of CD4+ T cells, have garnered extensive attention in the research of tumor progression. Treg cells have the function of inhibiting the immune effector cells, preventing tissue damage, and suppressing inflammation. Under the stimulation of the tumor inflammatory microenvironment (IM), the reprogramming of Treg cells enhances their suppression of immune responses, ultimately promoting tumor immune escape or tumor progression. Reducing the number of Treg cells in the IM or lowering the activity of Treg cells while preventing their reprogramming, can help promote the body's anti-tumor immune responses. This review introduces a reprogramming mechanism of Treg cells in the IM; and discusses the regulation of Treg cells on tumor progression. The control of Treg cells and the response to Treg inflammatory reprogramming in tumor immunotherapy are analyzed and countermeasures are proposed. This work will provide a foundation for downregulating the immunosuppressive role of Treg in the inflammatory environment in future tumor immunotherapy.

Abstract
Objective The present study is to explore the association between NQO1 gene polymorphism and coronary heart disease (CHD) risk. Methods This research were selected 80 CHD patients as the observation group and 130 healthy people who participated in normal physical examination during the same period as the control group. NQO1 gene polymorphism was detected by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method. In addition, we conducted a meta-analysis to summarize the results of three relevant previously published adult population studies on the association between NQO1 gene polymorphism and coronary heart disease (CHD) risk. Results There were three genotypes (CC, CT, and TT) for NQO1 C609T polymorphism. The significant associations were found in TT genotype and T allele (all p<0.05). Specifically, People with the TT genotype have 2.06 times CHD risk as those with the CC genotype. And People with the T allele have 1.62 times CHD risk as those with the C allele. No significant association was found by any genetic models in the meta-analysis (all p >0.05). Conclusion NQO1 gene polymorphism increased the CHD risk in a Chinese population. Combined with individual gene polymorphism, the accuracy of risk assessment for CHD can be improved and individualized health education can be provided for CHD patients by nurses.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Colon cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers of the digestive tract. There is mounting evidence that genes associated with oxidative stress might affect the tumour immune microenvironment during tumour growth, maintenance, and treatment response. However, how oxidative stress-related genes affect prognostic importance, tumour microenvironment features, and treatment outcomes in colon cancer patients has not been fully elucidated. METHODS The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) dataset was used to construct a signature model and nomogram using step and Cox regression approaches to investigate how gene expression affected immunological responses to colon cancer, including the degree of immune infiltration, MSI, and drug sensitivity. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS The nomogram and the signature model had strong prognostic potential for colon cancer, with gene expression highly correlated with multiple immune cells. The first signature model and nomogram including oxidative stress-related genes were constructed for use in clinical decision-making. In addition, SRD5A1, GSR, TXN, TRAF2 and TRAP1 were identified as potential biomarkers for colon cancer diagnosis and indicators for immunotherapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Oral cancer is alarming disease in the developing countries like India. DNA repair capacity may affect by genetic polymorphisms in DNA repair genes and thus may cause to cancer. XRCC3 involves in homologous recombination repair pathway and repair DNA damage and crosslinks while, NBS1 participate in repair of double strand DNA break and starts the cell-cycle checkpoint signaling. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES This study was to conducted to find the association of XRCC3, NBS1 polymorphisms with oral disease. RESULTS TT genotype of XRCC3 was associated with high risk of precancerous lesions and oral cancerous lesions (P value=0.0001, OR=9.68, 95% CI=2.82-33.21; and P value=0.0001, OR=13.10, 95% CI=3.38-50.73 respectively). We did not observe any interactions of XRCC3 polymorphism with demographic parameters in influencing the risk of oral diseases. Variant allele genotypes (CG, GG) of NBS1 (C>G) polymorphism showed protective association with Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF), lichen planus as well as oral cancer (OR=0.31, OR=0.01; OR=0.39, OR=0.03; OR=0.43, OR=0.31 respectively). Particularly, tobacco chewer with CG & GG genotypes were at decrease risk of oral diseases (P value=0.02, OR=0.32, 95% CI=0.12-0.80). Compared to CC/CC combined genotype CG/CC, CG/CT, GG/CC and CG/CT genotypes decreased the risk of oral disease (OR=0.05, 0.47, 0.26 & 0.14 respectively). CONCLUSION This study concludes that SNP in XRCC3, NBS1 affects susceptibility to oral disease.

Abstract
Objective: Perform genotyping of SNPs in the promoter region of the SMO gene in BCC samples from patients from northeastern Brazil, and to determine if there is an association of these SNPs of the gene in question with the susceptibility to the development of the BCC. Methods: 100 samples of paraffined tissue from patients with histopathological diagnosis of BCC and 100 control samples were analyzed for each polymorphism by a newly developed genotyping method, the Dideoxy Single Allele Specific – PCR. The software Bioestat - version 5.3 and Haploview 4.2 were used for the statistical analysis. For all tests a P-value <0.05 was considered significant. Results: The SNP rs538312246 is the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, therefore, it did not present significant association with the BCC (X² =2.343 and P<0.158). However, the CpG-SNPs rs375350898 and rs75827493 were significantly associated to the BCC in the analyzed samples (X2 = 27,740/21,500 and P <0001), the SNP rs75827493 showed a significant association with the BCC of the nodular subtype (P <0.0069). Therefore, our results suggest that SNPs rs375350898 and rs75827493 are potential molecular markers for susceptibility to BCC. Conclusion: The ability to detect SNP in a population, especially in promoter regions, has profoundly changed human genetic studies. This study allowed the understanding of the relationship between the presence of SNPs in CpG islands of the promoter region of the SMO gene can modify the methylation pattern and provide susceptibility to BCC in the population.

Abstract
The problem of treating tissue defects of the scalp to date remains one of the actual problems of modern medicine. Low elasticity, stiffness, and the presence of hair follicles and skin deficit dictate the need for new treatments, cosmetic relevant requirements of this zone. The use of expander dermotension in recent years has found its wide distribution in the treatment of defects and deformities of covering tissue anywhere on the body. On the example of a patient K.32 years old hospitalized with diagnosis-basal cell epithelioma of the scalp-the defect of soft tissues, we demonstrated the use of expander plastic in the treatment of defect covering tissues of the scalp. Thus, when there is a defect or deformation of covering tissues of the scalp, the most optimal is defect removal by tissues expander plastic. Transposition of pre fabricated by dermotension tissue complexes allows to liquidate quickly the defect of soft tissues, restoring normal full layered structure of the affected area of the scalp, and get good aesthetic results of treatment in these patients.

Abstract
Objective: Although there are a few studies investigating the relation between X-Ray Repair Cross Complementing 3 (XRCC3) gene rs861539 polymorphism and osteosarcoma (OSA), the results are inconsistent. Therefore, we performed this systematic review and meta-analysis to clarify the associations between XRCC3 rs861539 polymorphism and OSA risk. Methods: We have retrieved published literature from PubMed, Google scholar, and ISI Web of Knowledge up to 25 January 2017. Odds ratios were pooled using either fixed-effects or random effects models. Overall and subgroup analyses were performed. Statistical analysis was performed running comprehensive meta-analysis (CMA) 2.0 software. Results: A total of four studies with 515 cases and 1,109 controls were identified in order to investigate the association between XRCC3 rs861539 polymorphism and OSA risk. The results showed that XRCC3 rs861539 polymorphism was associated with OSA in allelic (T vs. C: OR= 1.563, 95% CI: 1.244-1.963, p= <0.001), homozygote (TT vs. CC: OR= 2.574, 95% CI: 1.573-4.212, p= <0.001), dominant (TT+TC vs. CC: OR= 1.255, 95% CI: 1.011-1.558, p= 0.039), and recessive (TT vs. TC+CC: OR= 2.224, 95% CI: 1.393-3.552, p= 0.001), but not with heterozygote (TC vs. CC: OR= 1.361, 95% CI: 0.982-1.885, p= 0.064). The XRCC3 rs861539 polymorphism conferred susceptibility to OSA in Asians, but not in Caucasians. Additionally, we observed no evidence of publication bias. Conclusion: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first meta-analysis investigating the association between XRCC3 rs861539 polymorphism and OSA risk. Our results revealed a significant association between the XRCC3 rs861539 polymorphism and risk of OSA, especially in Asian populations. Future more comprehensive and well-designed case control studies with larger sample size are needed to warrant these findings.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a potent endothelial cell mitogen that plays a vital role in angiogenesis, tumor growth, and metastasis. The associations between 3 polymorphisms of VEGF (+936 C > T, -2578 C > A, and -460 C > T) and ovarian cancer (OC) risk have been extensively investigated, but the currently available results are inconsistent. To obtain a more accurate estimation of the association, a meta-analysis was conducted in this study. METHODS PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure were searched for all relevant studies published before November 30, 2014. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated for the VEGF polymorphisms to assess the strength of the association. RESULTS With regard to the +936 C > T polymorphism, 5 articles were available for analysis (882 cases and 1155 controls), whereas for -2578 C > A (559 cases and 632 controls) and -460 C > T (350 cases and 409 controls), only 2 articles were eligible for analysis, respectively. A significant association between the VEGF +936 C/T polymorphism and OC was demonstrated in white populations (CT vs CC: OR, 0.638 [95% CI, 0.437-0.932; P = 0.020]; TT + CT vs CC: OR, 0.694 [95% CI, 0.483-0.995; P = 0.047]). No relationship was found between -2578 C > A and -460 C > T and susceptibility to develop OC. CONCLUSIONS This meta-analysis provides supportive evidence that the VEGF +936 C/T polymorphism may influence the risk for the development of OC in a protective model among whites.

Abstract
Background The X-ray cross-complementing group 3 (XRCC3) gene encodes a protein that plays an important role in homologous recombination repair (HRR) of DNA double-strand break (DSB). Increasing attention has been drawn to the association of XRCC3 T241M polymorphism with various types of human cancers. In this study, a meta-analysis was performed to investigate whether there is an association between XRCC3 T241M polymorphism and thyroid cancer risk. Material/Methods A comprehensive search was conducted and a total of 8 studies that covered 963 thyroid cancer cases and 1942 controls were included in this analysis. The meta-analysis was performed on both overall database and 2 ethnic subgroups (Caucasian and Asian). The fixed-effects model was used to calculate odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The publication bias was evaluated using Begg’s funnel plots and Egger’s test. Results A positive association between XRCC3 T241M polymorphism and thyroid cancer risk was found by the analyses of the overall database using both recessive model (OR=1.40, 95% CI=1.08–1.81, P=0.012) and homozygote comparison (OR=1.41, 95% CI=1.07–1.86, P=0.015), but not by that using the dominant model (OR=1.12, 95% CI=0.95–1.33, P=0.18). However, no significant association of XRCC3 Thr241Met polymorphism with the risk of thyroid cancer was found in individual ethnic subgroups. Conclusions We conclude that the XRCC3 Thr241Met polymorphism is associated with an increased risk of thyroid cancer in the overall population, while no significant association was observed in individual ethnic subgroups due to limited population size.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Since genetic variations in X-ray cross-complementing group 4 (XRCC4; OMIM: 194363) repair gene might be associated with a reduction in cellular DNA repair capacity, it is hypothesized that XRCC4 Ins/Del (I/D) polymorphism (in intron 3 of the gene; rs28360071) may be a risk factor for breast cancer. Therefore, the present case-control study was carried out. METHODS The present case-control study included 407 females with breast cancer and a total of 394 healthy females from the general population matched with patients according to age. Genotypic analysis for the XRCC4 I/D polymorphism was performed by PCR. In order to investigate the effect of XRCC4 I/D polymorphism on age at diagnosis of breast cancer, the Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and the Cox proportional hazards regression model were used. RESULTS Based on the present case-control study, the ID (OR=0.95, 95% CI: 0.69-1.31, P=0.781) and DD (OR=1.24, 95% CI: 0.84-1.83, P=0.274) genotypes were not associated with breast cancer risk compared with the II genotype. Based on the Cox regression model, there was significant association between genotypes of I/D polymorphism and age at diagnosis of breast cancer (ID+DD vs II; HR=0.79, 95% CI: 0.64-0.98, P=0.036). CONCLUSION Although there was no significant association between XRCC4 I/D polymorphism and risk of breast cancer, patients having the II genotype have lower age at diagnosis in comparison with patients having ID+DD genotypes.
