Abstract
INTRODUCTION Preterm birth (<37 gestational weeks) accounts for an increasing proportion of global births each year, with moderately or late preterm birth (MLPT) (32+0/7-36+6/7 gestational weeks) comprising over 80% of all preterm births. Despite the frequency, MLPT births represent only a small fraction of prematurity research, with research exploring the parental experiences of having a child born MLPT particularly neglected. It is vital this perspective is considered to provide appropriate grounding for future research and service provision. METHODS Six mothers from the UK of infants (aged between 18 and 36 months) born MLPT were invited to take part in a semistructured qualitative interview study. Reflexive thematic analysis was employed to explore the data and codes were then conceptualised through a process of inductive reasoning to identify patterns of meaning. RESULTS Five themes are presented that are conceptualised from the data: (1) the moderate or later preterm 'label-does it matter?, (2) vulnerability within a new role, (3) coming home and wanting to start 'normal' life, (4) comparisons to provide a reference to experiences and (5) experience of professionals throughout the pregnancy, newborn and early years journey. CONCLUSIONS Findings offer in-depth evidence surrounding mothers' experiences of healthcare throughout pregnancy and immediately after birth, perceptions of the 'preterm' label and thoughts on how mothers reflect on their experiences. Future research should show an awareness of the broader family context when interpreting findings and providing suggestions for future research avenues or service provision.

Abstract
Background Parenting a preterm infant can be incredibly challenging and stressful, particularly in the first year after discharge. Desirable parental role adaptation leads to appropriate parenting behaviors and parent-infant interaction, which are essential to child health and development. Aim To investigate the level of parental role adaptation and its influencing factors among parents of preterm infants in the first year after hospital discharge according to Belsky's parenting process model among parents of preterm infants in the first year after hospital discharge. Methods A cross-sectional study design was adopted using convenience sampling. Data were collected using the Parental Role Adaptation Scale (PRAS) in parents with preterm infants, the Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS), the Coping Adaptation Processing Scale (CAPS-15), and a sociodemographic questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, non-parametric tests, Spearman correlation analyses, and multivariate linear regression were used to analyze the data. Results In total, 300 Chinese parents were included in the analysis. In the multivariate analysis, first-time parent (p = 0.003), master's degree and above (p = 0.042), coping adaptation processing (p = 0.000), residence location (towns: p = 0.019, city: p = 0.028), monthly family income (6000-10,000: p = 0.000, >10,000: p = 0.000), and perceived social support (p = 0.001) were all significant predictors of parental role adaptation and collectively accounted for 56.8% of the variation in parental role adaptation of parents with preterm infants (F = 16.473, p < 0.001). Coping adaptation processing mediated the relationship between perceived social support and parental role adaptation (95% bootstrap CI = 0.022, 0.130). Conclusion Chinese parents of preterm infants experience a moderate level of parental role adaptation when their child is discharged from the hospital to home. Parents who are not first-time parents, have master's degrees or above, live in towns or cities, have higher coping and adaptation abilities, have high monthly family income, and greater perceived social support have a higher level of parental role adaptation. Healthcare providers should pay more attention to parents with low socioeconomic status and encourage them to improve their coping and adaptation abilities and to utilize their formal and informal social support networks.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We examined what matters to families about the healthcare provided to preterm or LBW infants in hospital and the community, to ensure that care meets the needs of infants and parents. METHODS We searched databases to identify eligible studies examining the views and expectations of families. Study quality was assessed using the CASP checklist for qualitative studies. The GRADE-CERQual approach was used to assess confidence in review findings. Studies were sampled and data analysed using thematic synthesis. RESULTS 222 studies (227 papers) were eligible for inclusion. 54 studies (57 papers) were sampled based on data richness, methodological quality, and representation across settings. Eight analytical themes were identified. Confidence in results was moderate to high. What mattered was a positive outcome for the child; active involvement in care; being supported to cope at home after discharge; emotional support; the healthcare environment; information needs met; logistical support available; and positive relationships with staff. CONCLUSION Although parents and family members reported a variety of experiences in the care of their infant, we found high consistency in what matters to families. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS This review identifies approaches to improve experiences of parents which are consistent with the Family Centred Care model of healthcare.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Little is known about preterm infant feeding and growth in the outpatient setting, and there are no standardized post-hospital discharge feeding guidelines. This study aims to describe post-neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) discharge growth trajectories of very preterm (<32 weeks gestational age (GA)) and moderately preterm (32-34 0/7 weeks GA) infants managed by community providers and to determine the association between post-discharge feeding type and growth Z-scores and z-score changes through 12 months corrected age (CA). METHODS This retrospective cohort study included very preterm infants (n = 104) and moderately preterm infants (n = 109) born 2010-2014 and followed in community clinics for low-income, urban families. Infant home feeding and anthropometry were abstracted from medical records. Repeated measures analysis of variance calculated adjusted growth z-scores and z-score differences between 4 and 12 months CA. Linear regression models estimated associations between 4 months CA feeding type and 12 months CA anthropometry. RESULTS Moderately preterm infants on nutrient-enriched vs. standard term feeds at 4 months CA had significantly lower length z-scores at NICU discharge that persisted to 12 months CA (-0.04 (0.13) vs. 0.37 (0.21), respectively, P = .03), with comparable length z-score increase for both groups between 4 and 12 months CA. Very preterm infants' 4 months CA feeding type predicted 12 month CA body mass index z-scores (β=-0.66 (-1.28, -0.04)). CONCLUSION Community providers may manage preterm infant post-NICU discharge feeding in the context of growth. Further research is needed to explore modifiable drivers of infant feeding and socio-environmental factors that influence preterm infant growth trajectories.

Abstract
AIM to describe the feeding and growth patterns of preterm-born children at preschool age, considering feeding problems based on behaviours and skills, diet quality and parental feeding practices. METHODS a cross-sectional study was performed on preterm children born in Asturias (Spain) in 2016 (n = 94). When preterm-born children reached 3-4 years of age their families were asked to complete the Behavioral Pediatrics Feeding Assessment Scale and a food frequency questionnaire to identify possible feeding problems and assess diet quality (KIDMED index), respectively. Self-reported anthropometric data were also collected to assess weight growth. Electronic health records were reviewed to gather gestational and neonatal clinical data. RESULTS feeding problems were found in 7.4 % of children and 20.2 % of parents. According to the KIDMED index, 25.5 % of children had a high-quality diet. Feeding problems were higher in children born before 32 weeks of gestation, and decreased in frequency as the gestational age increased (p = 0.030). No differences were found in parental feeding practices (p = 0.455) or diet quality according to gestational age (p = 0.399), but body weight at 3-4 years was lower in preterm-born children (p = 0.015). CONCLUSIONS feeding patterns of preterm-born children were suitable at the age of 3-4 years, but diet quality was moderate to poor in the majority of children. Follow-up of very preterm children beyond 3-4 years of age becomes necessary as they displayed more feeding problems and lower body weight.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to assess the psycholinguistic and psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Transition Questionnaire, which is grounded on the Hospital-to-Home Transition Model. DESIGN AND METHODS This cross-sectional methodological study was conducted with the participation of 380 parents in the neonatal intensive care clinic in a tertiary hospital between February 2020 and January 2021. A data assessment, number and percentage analysis, and language validity, content validity, and construct validity analyses were applied. In addition, a cluster analysis was performed on the sub-dimensions obtained from the questionnaire, and one-way analysis of variance was used to test the difference between the clusters. RESULTS The content validity index was determined to be 0.89. It was determined that the sample size was adequate for the factor analysis (with a KMO value of 0.779 and Bartlett's test of sphericity value of χ2(276)=4026.181; p<0.05). As a result of the exploratory factor analysis, 12 items were omitted from the questionnaire. Fit indices of the new three-factor questionnaire structure that was formed upon removal of the items were evaluated by confirmatory factor analysis (χ2/df=4.783, RMSEA = 0.076, GFI = 0.776, AGFI = 0.726, CFI = 0.707, SRMR = 0.097). The reliability coefficient was found to be 0.871-0.716 for the sub-dimensions of the questionnaire and 0.795 for the overall questionnaire. CONCLUSIONS It was determined that the Turkish version of the Transition Questionnaire is valid and reliable for making post-discharge evaluations of parents with preterm infants in Turkish society.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Early life exposures can have an impact on a child's developmental trajectory and children born late preterm (34-36 weeks gestational age) are increasingly recognized to have health and developmental setbacks that extend into childhood. OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to assess whether late preterm birth was associated with poorer developmental and educational outcomes in the early childhood period, after controlling for health and social factors. METHODS We conducted a retrospective cohort study using administrative databases housed at the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy, including all children born late preterm (34-36 weeks gestational age (GA)) and at full-term (39-41 weeks GA) between 2000 and 2005 in urban Manitoba (N = 28,100). Logistic regression was used to examine the association between gestational age (GA) and outcomes, after adjusting for covariates. RESULTS Adjusted analyses demonstrated that children born late preterm had a higher prevalence of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) (aOR = 1.25, 95% CI [1.03, 1.51]), were more likely to be vulnerable in the language and cognitive (aOR = 1.29, 95% CI [1.06, 1.57]), communication and general knowledge (aOR = 1.24, 95% CI [1.01, 1.53]), and physical health and well-being (aOR = 1.27, 95% CI [1.04, 1.53]) domains of development at kindergarten, and were more likely to repeat kindergarten or grade 1 (aOR = 1.52, 95% CI [1.03, 2.25]) compared to children born at term. They did not differ in receipt of special education funding, in social maturity or emotional development at kindergarten, and in reading and numeracy assessments in the third grade. CONCLUSIONS Given that the late preterm population makes up 75% of the preterm population, their poorer outcomes have implications at the population level. This study underscores the importance of recognizing the developmental vulnerability of this population and adequately accounting for the social differences between children born late preterm and at term.

Abstract
To describe the experiences and expectations of Spanish women regarding breastfeeding and the support they receive from healthcare professionals, family, and friends during the breastfeeding journey, A qualitative study using an empirical-phenomenological approach was conducted. Primiparous women that had already given birth were interviewed using a purposive and snowball sampling. In-depth interviews were conducted between 1 January and 30 April 2020. The interviews were transcribed verbatim and analysed using Haase’s adaptation of Colaizzi’s phenomenological method. We recruited 14 women who had recently become mothers. Three major themes describing experiences of infant feeding by maternal lactation were identified—institutional influences, establishing breastfeeding, and cessation of breastfeeding—as well as the following 10 categories: hospital routines, lactation concerns (amount and infant nutrition), antenatal breastfeeding decision, embarrassment to breastfeed, and normalisation of breastfeeding. Prior education and support were identified as key elements in possible breastfeeding support strategies.

Abstract
PURPOSE We report findings from an institutional ethnography (IE) of nurses' work of feeding infants within an increasingly technical organization of NICUs. SAMPLE Five primary informants; 18 secondary informants. DESIGN The institutional ethnographic approach included field observations, interviews, and phone and e-mail conversations. Our analysis followed accounts of what actually happened within the textual organization of nurses' work. MAIN OUTCOME Nurses' feeding practices are directed by protocols that arise within multiple documentation systems and clinical technologies. These systems produce barriers to nurses' efforts to skillfully feed infants. RESULTS Prioritization of quality and safety perspectives can obscure and constrain the ordinary yet critical clinical reasoning neonatal nurses employ during feeding work. Clinical technologies that have been developed to improve safety can paradoxically disrupt the ability of nurses to respond in the moment to neonatal feeding cues. This finding provides nurses, leaders, and policymakers with insight into why policies and procedures may not be followed as expected.

Abstract
AIM To describe the structure and content of telephone support calls between mothers of preterm infants and support team members after hospital discharge. DESIGN This is a qualitative study. METHODS Data consisted of 19 recordings of telephone calls that occurred between March 2013 and December 2015. The calls were made by support team members to mothers within two weeks of discharge from the neonatal unit. Analyses were performed using content analysis. RESULTS One category referred to what the support team members said that facilitated or did not facilitate the conversation. It was found that the support team members managed to have conversations that were tailored to the mother's current needs and conversations where the focus was on what the support team members thought was important. A second category referred to the topics the mothers talked about and that the mothers expressed both negative and positive feelings.

Abstract
Introduction: Mothers with preterm infants experience numerous stressful problems which can have negative effects on maternal role adaptation. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of consultation using a problem-solving approach on adaptation to the maternal role in women with late preterm infants. Methods: This randomized controlled trial (RCT) was carried out on 80 women with spontaneous late preterm infants recruited at Ayatollah Mousavi Hospital of Zanjan. Using convenience sampling method, the participants were assigned into two groups of intervention and control according to block design. Taking a problem-solving approach, counselling was carried out individually in four sessions. The control group received only routine care. The data were collected using adaptation to maternal role questionnaire including 33 items based on a five-point Likert scale ranging in seven areas, in two steps (before counselling and one month after the last counselling session). Data analysis was performed using the SPSS ver. 16.0 software (SPSS, Inc., Chicago, IL). Results: The total score of adaptations to maternal role and its areas was significantly higher in the intervention group after the follow-up period. Conclusion: A comprehensive counselling including various dimensions of maternity adaptation had a positive effect on improving the adaptation to maternal role in mothers with late preterm infants.

Mothers' experiences of caring for preterm babies at home: qualitative insights from an urban setting in a middle-income country. BMC Pregnancy Childbirth 2021; 21:395. Abstract
Background Preterm delivery is the birth of a baby before 37 weeks of gestation. This global phenomenon is a critical issue of concern especially in developing countries that are resource-constrained when it comes to the management of preterm babies. Complications associated with prematurity contribute significantly to under-five mortality and are linked with feelings of despair, grief, and anxiety among mothers. Methods This was a qualitative descriptive study in an urban setting in the Greater Accra region of Ghana. Eleven mothers whose babies had been discharged from the neonatal intensive care unit in a major hospital and resided in Accra were interviewed in their homes using a semi-structured interview guide. Data were audiotaped, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed inductively by content analysis. Results All the mothers had formal education and the mean maternal age was 27.9 years. The majority of the mothers were multiparous. The gestational age at birth ranged from 32 to 34 weeks and the average birth weight of their babies was 1.61 kg. Four major themes emerged which included: Around the clock care; mothers’ self-perceptions and attitudes of significant others; mothers’ health and wellbeing; and support. Most of the mothers experienced physical exhaustion from the extra demands involved with care, had negative emotions, and unmet social needs. Conclusions The findings indicate that home management of preterm babies poses multiple stressors and is associated with poor psychological and physical wellbeing among mothers. Hence, the need for extensive education and identification of other social support systems to augment facility-based care for mothers and their preterm babies. Abstract
Patient-centred care is a key priority for governments, providers and stakeholders, yet little is known about the care preferences of patient groups. We completed a scoping review that yielded 193 articles for analysis. Five health states were used to account for the diversity of possible preferences based on health needs. Five broad themes were identified and expressed differently across the health states, including personalized care, navigation, choice, holistic care and care continuity. Patients' perspectives must be considered to meet the diverse needs of targeted patient groups, which can inform health system planning, quality improvement initiatives and targeting of investments.

Abstract
AIM Little attention has been paid to breastfeeding late preterm (LPT) infants. This study compared breastfeeding, worries, depression and stress in mothers of LPT and term-born infants throughout the first year. We also described factors associated with shorter breastfeeding duration of LPT infants. METHODS This longitudinal cohort study of the mothers of singleton infants-129 born LPT and 277 born at term-was conducted at Landspitali-The National University Hospital of Iceland, which has the country's only neonatal intensive care unit. The mothers answered questionnaires when their infants were 1, 4, 8 and 12 months of age. RESULTS Mothers breastfed LPT infants for a significantly shorter time than term infants: a median of 7 months (95% confidence interval 5.53-8.48) vs 9 months (95% confidence interval 8.39-9.61) (P < .05). Starting solids at up to 4 months was the strongest risk factor for LPT breastfeeding cessation during the first year, after adjusting for confounders (P < .001). Their mothers reported more worries about their infants' health and behaviour during the first year and were more likely to experience depression at 4 months. CONCLUSION Mothers with LPT infants are vulnerable and need greater practical breastfeeding and emotional support in hospital and at home.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Birth before term is a stressful experience for parents because of the unexpected delivery or admission to the neonatal intensive care unit. OBJECTIVE This research aimed to evaluate the impact of the early PT intervention on preterm infants' parents' experiences, and also to obtain knowledge about parents' experiences and perceived difficulties during preterm infants' care. METHODS This qualitative study is based on the methods of phenomenology. In the first phase, open interviews were developed to allow researchers to immerse themselves in the context of the study and refine the questions for the semi-structured interviews. Data collected from the semi-structured interviews were analyzed through content analysis. RESULTS The results were summarized around three themes: 1) parental competence; 2) difficulties during preterm infants' care; and 3) coping strategies. Each theme was divided into two sub-themes. CONCLUSION Mothers and fathers of preterm infants experienced difficulties when caring for their babies. Parents that received the early physiotherapy intervention felt empowered to take care of their babies and to enhance infants' development. These parents were more capable of developing coping strategies after the intervention. Parents that did not receive the early physiotherapy intervention expressed difficulties when caring for their preterm babies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hypothesis: neuromotor development correlates to body composition over the first year of life in prematurely born infants and can be influenced by enhancing motor activity. METHODS Forty-six female and 53 male infants [27 ± 1.8 (sd) weeks] randomized to comparison or exercise group (caregiver provided 15-20 min daily of developmentally appropriate motor activities) completed the year-long study. Body composition [lean body and fat mass (LBM, FM)], growth/inflammation predictive biomarkers, and Alberta Infant Motor Scale (AIMS) were assessed. RESULTS AIMS at 1 year correlated with LBM (r = 0.32, p < 0.001) in the whole cohort. However, there was no effect of the intervention. LBM increased by ~3685 g (p < 0.001)); insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) was correlated with LBM (r = 0.36, p = 0.002). IL-1RA (an inflammatory biomarker) decreased (-75%, p < 0.0125). LBM and bone mineral density were significantly lower and IGF-1 higher in the females at 1 year. CONCLUSIONS We found an association between neuromotor development and LBM suggesting that motor activity may influence LBM. Our particular intervention was ineffective. Whether activities provided largely by caregivers to enhance motor activity in prematurely born infants can affect the interrelated (1) balance of growth and inflammation mediators, (2) neuromotor development, (3) sexual dimorphism, and/or (4) body composition early in life remains unknown.

Abstract
BACKGROUND China has an extremely low exclusive breastfeeding rate. Kangaroo mother care (KMC) has been shown to increase the exclusive breastfeeding rate among infants born extremely or very preterm. However, there is limited evidence surrounding intermittent KMC and exclusive breastfeeding in late preterm infants. In our study we investigated the association between the provision of intermittent KMC and breastfeeding practice for late preterm infants in four hospitals in different provinces of China. METHODS Intermittent KMC was recommended to the mothers of all preterm infants admitted to the postnatal wards of participating hospitals between March 2018 and March 2019. Those who agreed to practice KMC were enrolled in the "KMC group", those who did not were enrolled in the "No KMC group". Basic maternal socio-demographic information was collected, feeding practice; outcome and method, were recorded daily whilst in hospital. A follow-up survey of feeding practice was conducted 42 days after discharge. Calculations for feeding practice were performed separately for both groups. Logistics regression was used to analyze the association between KMC and feeding outcome and method, adjusting for socio-demographic covariates. RESULTS Among the 844 mothers participating in the study, 627 (74.3%) chose to perform KMC. More of the mothers who provided KMC were exclusively breast milk feeding their infants in the 24 h before hospital discharge (54.6%) and at follow-up (57.3%), compared to mothers who did not provide KMC (34.6% at discharge and 33.2% at follow-up,). Mothers in the KMC group were more likely to be breastfeeding (method) than mothers in the No KMC group (65.3% vs. 52.1% at discharge, and 83.1% vs. 67.3% at follow up). Logistic regression indicated that compared with the No KMC group, mothers who provided KMC were twice as likely to be exclusively breast milk feeding their infants at discharge (OR = 2.15 (95% CI 1.53, 3.02)), use breastfeeding method at discharge as opposed to other means such as bottle or cup feeding (OR = 1.61 (95% CI 1.15, 2.25)), be exclusive breast milk feeding at follow-up (OR = 2.55 (95% CI 1.81, 3.61)), and use breastfeeding method at follow-up (OR = 2.09 (95% CI 1.44, 3.02)). CONCLUSIONS Intermittent KMC was associated with a nearly doubled increase in exclusive breast milk feeding (outcome) and breastfeeding (method) at both discharge and 42 days after discharge for late preterm infants. This is especially important in China where exclusive breastfeeding rates are low, intermittent KMC provides a feasible means to increase the likelihood of these vulnerable infants receiving the benefits of exclusive breastmilk.

Abstract
Objectives To explore parents’ experiences of seeking health care for their children and instead being accused by healthcare professionals of Shaken Baby Syndrome/Abusive Head Trauma (SBS/AHT), being reported to Social Services, undergoing judiciary processing, and the impact of these events on family (dis)integration. Methods Design: A qualitative study based on qualitative content analysis. Participants: Twelve parents in Sweden, mothers and fathers, seeking health care for their infants, encountering allegations of SBS/AHT, losing custody of their infants, and being subjected to a judiciary process, and finally regaining custody of their children. Data collection: In-depth interviews. Results An overarching theme ‘Fighting for protection of their child after being trapped by doctors’ and four sub-themes were developed to reflect the parents’ experiences, reactions and interpretations. The first sub-theme, ‘Being accused of injuring the child’, illuminated the shock experienced when seeking care and instead being accused of being a perpetrator. The second, ‘Chaos and powerlessness’, refers to the emotions experienced when losing custody of the child and being caught in the enforcement of legislation by the authorities. The third, ´The unified fight against the doctors’ verdict´, illustrates the parents’ fight for innocence, their worry for the lost child, and their support and resistance. The fourth, ‘The wounded posttraumatic growth’, describes the emotions, grief, panic, anxiety, and challenges in reuniting the family, but also the parents’ reflections on personal growth. Unanimously, they had experienced the authorities’ inability to reconsider, and expressed a deep mistrust of paediatric care. Conclusions Being wrongly accused of child abuse and alleged SBS/AHT evoked emotions of intense stress, but parents endured because of a successful fight to regain custody of their child. However, the trauma had a long-term impact on their lives with residual posttraumatic stress symptoms and mistrust towards healthcare services and the authorities. The results provide important inferences for restoring system failures within child protection services.

Abstract
Introduction Parents have a major impact on the outcome of health care of preterm infants. Parents’ engagement in meaningful activities could have an impact on their own health and wellbeing and therefore be relevant in neonatal intensive care. The aim of this study was to explore meaningful activities of parents of very low birth weight (VLBW) preterm infants with the purpose to further the understanding of their clinical relevance and to foster their consideration in clinical practice and research of neonatal intensive care. Methods A total of 36 parents of preterm infants born prior to complete 37 weeks of gestation with VLBW (≤1.500 grams) were asked to participate in a focus group interview. Interview transcripts were used to analyse the content of the focus group interviews using meaning condensation method by Steinar Kvale. Results Thirty-six parents participated in a total of twelve focus groups. Parents reported that the meaning of certain activities changed due to preterm birth. Meaningful activities, like bathing the baby and gardening, could foster a transition from a feeling of parental immaturity to a feeling of maturity, following health care instructions to possessing health care skills, and a functioning-only state to a balance of activities. Conclusions In neonatal intensive care, nurses contribute to delivering parental education and thereby facilitate experiences of being a mature parent and of possessing health care skills. Occupational therapy could be used to help re-engage in meaningful activities and maintain a balance of activities in parents of VLBW preterm infants.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Public health nurses (PHNs) care for and support late preterm infants (LPIs) and their families when they go home from the hospital. PHNs require evidence-informed guidelines to ensure appropriate and consistent care. The objective of this research study is to capture the lived experience of PHNs caring for LPIs in the community as a first step to improving the quality of care for LPIs and support for their parents. METHODS To meet our objectives we chose a descriptive phenomenology approach as a method of inquiry. We conducted semi-structured interviews with PHNs (n = 10) to understand PHN perceptions of caring for LPIs and challenges in meeting the needs of families within the community. Interpretative thematic analysis revealed PHN perceptions of caring for LPIs and challenges in meeting the needs of families within the community. RESULTS Four themes emerged from the data. First, PHNs expressed challenges with meeting the physiological needs of LPIs and gave voice to the resulting strain this causes for parents. Second, nurses conveyed that parents require more anticipatory guidance about the special demands associated with feeding LPIs. Third, PHNs relayed that parents sometimes receive inconsistent advice from different providers. Lastly, PHNs acknowledged that due to lack of resources, families sometimes did not receive the full scope of evidence informed care required by fragile, immature infants. CONCLUSION The care of LPIs by PHNs would benefit from more research about the needs of these infants and their families. Efforts to improve quality of care should focus on: evidence-informed guidelines, consistent care pathways, coordination of follow up care and financial resources, to provide physical, emotional, informational support that families require once they leave the hospital. More research on meeting the challenges of caring for LPIs and their families would provide direction for the competencies PHNs require to improve the quality of care in the community.

Abstract
Mothers of late preterm infants need ongoing support because they often find establishing breastfeeding (BF) to be complex and difficult. Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children peer counselors provide BF information and emotional support to new mothers in many communities. However, their current training does not include education about BF for the late preterm infant. The purpose of this report is to present important information about BF and the late preterm infant that can enhance peer counselors' ability to offer appropriate support. The effect of this education on outcomes such as BF rates, maternal self-efficacy, infant hospital readmissions, and peer counselors' self-efficacy needs to be investigated.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The promotion and maintenance of breastfeeding with late preterm infants (LPIs) remain under examined topics of study. This dearth of research knowledge, especially for this population at-risk for various health complications, requires scientific investigation. In this study, we explore the experiences of mothers and the perceptions of public health nurses (PHNs) about breastfeeding late preterm infants in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. METHODS We used an exploratory mixed methods design with a convenience sample of 122 mothers to gather quantitative data about breastfeeding. We collected qualitative data by means of individual face-to-face interviews with 11 mothers and 10 public health nurses. Data were collected from April 2013 to June 2014. We then employed an interpretive thematic analysis to identify central themes and relationships across narratives. RESULTS We collected 74 complete data sets about breastfeeding. During the first 6-8 weeks postpartum, 61 mothers breastfed their infants. Of these, 51 partially breastfed and 10 exclusively breastfed. For qualitative purposes, the researchers interviewed 11 mothers with late preterm babies and three themes emerged: significant difficulty with breastfeeding, failing to recognize the infant's feeding distress and disorganized behavior, and the parental stress caused by the multiple feeding issues. The public health nurses' comments reinforced and expanded on what the mothers reported. The themes for the nurses included: challenges with initiating breastfeeding, challenges during breastfeeding, and the need for stimulation during breastfeeding. CONCLUSION Mothers face challenges when breastfeeding their late preterm infants and public health nurses can guide them through this experience. Families with a late preterm infant need to be informed about the challenges associated with breastfeeding a late preterm infant. It is necessary for all health care professionals to receive proper training on safe and effective breastfeeding of late preterm infants. It is essential for public health nurses to communicate effectively with families of late preterm infants to provide anticipatory guidance about potential challenges and strategies to resolve any breastfeeding problems.
