Abstract
PURPOSE Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is a rare and aggressive type of breast cancer, as many physicians may not be aware of it in terms of symptoms and diagnosis. Mammography is the first choice in breast screenings and diagnosis. Because of a lack of expertise and imaging datasets, IBC portrayal and machine learning-based diagnosis systems have not yet been studied thoroughly. Developing scanning and diagnosis tools can close the knowledge gap and barriers to a timely IBC diagnosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS The dataset includes 20 women aged 34-75, of whom 10 were clinically diagnosed with IBC and 10 with non-IBC. A breast mapping and scanning model was developed. Gray-level co-occurrence matrices were used to characterize skin thickening, edema, breast density, microcalcifications, and breast size asymmetry in bilateral mammographic images. RESULTS A one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) test was performed to evaluate differences between mammogram breasts with IBC, non-IBC, and healthy breasts. Higher breast density variations were calculated in breasts with IBC in the anterior (P = 0.0147) and middle (P = 0.0026) regions. Breasts with IBC showed higher microcalcifications (P = 0.0472) than the other breasts, and bilateral analyses showed higher variations (P = 0.1367). Breast size asymmetry (P = 0.9833) was not significantly different between the groups. CONCLUSION Skin thickening, edema, and breast density-related parameters were found to be associated with IBC. This study thus lays the foundation of machine learning diagnosis models for IBC.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of negligence claims in radiology. The objective of this document is to describe the specific main causes of errors in breast imaging and provide European Society of Breast Imaging (EUSOBI) recommendations to try to minimize these. OBSERVATIONS Technical failures represent 17% of all mammographic diagnostic negligence claims. Mammography quality control protocol and dedicated training for technologists and radiologists are essential. Lack of consideration of the clinical context is a second critical issue, as a clinical abnormality is found in 80% of malpractice claims. EUSOBI emphasizes the importance of communication and clinical examination before the diagnostic investigation. Detection errors or misapplications of the lexicon or Breast Imaging Reporting Data System (BI-RADS) score account for 5% of malpractice claims and should be reduced by limiting radiologists' distraction or fatigue, and being aware of satisfaction of search errors and the importance of a personal systematic review. Errors related to pathological concordance and MDT review can be limited by the use of markers after biopsy and the use of standardized reports, which can aid communication with other specialities. Finally, errors related to tumor or patient factors should be discussed, considering the use of contrast-enhanced mammography and magnetic resonance imaging. CONCLUSION Several factors are responsible for misdiagnosis in breast cancer, including errors in the practice of the technician and/or radiologist (technical failures, lack of consideration of the clinical context, incorrect application of the BI-RADS score, false reassurances), lack of communication with other specialists or with the patient, and the type of tumor and breast parenchyma. KEY POINTS Question What factors most contribute to and what implications stem from misdiagnosis in breast imaging? Findings Ongoing training and education for radiologists and other healthcare providers, as well as interdisciplinary collaboration and communication is paramount. Clinical relevance Misdiagnosis in breast imaging can have significant implications for patients, healthcare providers, and the entire healthcare system.

Abstract
Canine inflammatory mammary cancer (IMC) is a highly aggressive and lethal cancer in dogs serving as a valuable animal model for its human counterpart, inflammatory breast cancer (IBC), both lacking effective therapies. Intratumoral immunotherapy (IT-IT) with empty cowpea mosaic virus (eCPMV) nanoparticles has shown promising results, demonstrating a reduction in tumor size, longer survival rates, and improved quality of life. This study compares the transcriptomic profiles of tumor samples from female dogs with IMC receiving eCPMV IT-IT and medical therapy (MT) versus MT alone. Transcriptomic analyses, gene expression profiles, signaling pathways, and cell type profiling of immune cell populations in samples from four eCPMV-treated dogs with IMC and four dogs with IMC treated with MT were evaluated using NanoString Technologies using a canine immune-oncology panel. Comparative analyses revealed 34 differentially expressed genes between treated and untreated samples. Five genes (CXCL8, S100A9, CCL20, IL6, and PTGS2) involved in neutrophil recruitment and activation were upregulated in the treated samples, linked to the IL17-signaling pathway. Cell type profiling showed a significant increase in neutrophil populations in the tumor microenvironment after eCPMV treatment. These findings highlight the role of neutrophils in the anti-tumor response mediated by eCPMV IT-IT and suggest eCPMV as a novel therapeutic approach for IBC/IMC.

Abstract
PURPOSE Inflammatory breast cancer is a deadly and aggressive type of breast cancer. A key challenge relates to the need for a more detailed, formal, objective definition of IBC, the lack of which compromises clinical care, hampers the conduct of clinical trials, and hinders the search for IBC-specific biomarkers and treatments because of the heterogeneity of patients considered to have IBC. METHODS Susan G. Komen, the Inflammatory Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and the Milburn Foundation convened patient advocates, clinicians, and researchers to review the state of IBC and to propose initiatives to advance the field. After literature review of the defining clinical, pathologic, and imaging characteristics of IBC, the experts developed a novel quantitative scoring system for diagnosis. RESULTS The experts identified through consensus several "defining characteristics" of IBC, including factors related to timing of onset and specific symptoms. These reflect common pathophysiologic changes, sometimes detectable on biopsy in the form of dermal lymphovascular tumor emboli and often reflected in imaging findings. Based on the importance and extent of these characteristics, the experts developed a scoring scale that yields a continuous score from 0 to 48 and proposed cut-points for categorization that can be tested in subsequent validation studies. CONCLUSION To move beyond subjective 'clinical diagnosis' of IBC, we propose a quantitative scoring system to define IBC, based on clinical, pathologic, and imaging features. This system is intended to predict outcome and biology, guide treatment decisions and inclusion in clinical trials, and increase diagnostic accuracy to aid basic research; future validation studies are necessary to evaluate its performance.

Abstract
Background Human inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) and canine inflammatory mammary cancer (IMC) are the most lethal mammary cancers. An exacerbated angiogenesis and the existence of vasculogenic mimicry (VM) are hallmarks of these tumors. The information regarding VM and ultrastructural characteristics of mammary cell lines is scant. Methods In this study, IBC cell line SUM149 and IMC cell line IPC-366 in adherent (2D) and non-adherent (3D) (mammospheres, cancer stem cells) conditions were analyzed by transmission and scanning electron microscopy (TEM and SEM, respectively). Results The TEM revealed round to oval shape cells with microvilli on the surface, high numbers of peroxisomes in close apposition to lipid droplets and some extracellular derived vesicles. The TEM and the SEM mammospheres revealed group of cells clumping together with a central lumen (resembling a mammary acini). The cells joint are tight junctions and zonula adherens. By SEM two cell morphologies were observed: spherical and flattened cells. There was evidence endothelial-like cells (ELCs), which is characteristic for this disease, showing several or unique cytoplasmic empty space. ELCs were more frequent in 3D than in 2D culture conditions and contained Weibel-Palade cytoplasmic bodies, which are exclusive structures of endothelial cells. Conclusions Both cell lines, IPC-366 and SUM-149, shared ultrastructural characteristics, further supporting canine IMC as a model for the human disease. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that demonstrate the morphological differentiation of cultured cancer stem cells from cancer epithelial cell lines into endothelial-like cells, confirming the vasculogenic mimicry phenomenon from an ultrastructural point of view.

Abstract
PURPOSE We describe the clinico-pathologic and mammographic characteristics of inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) and non-IBC cases enrolled in a case-control study. Because IBC is a clinico-pathologic entity with rapid appearance of erythema and other signs, its diagnosis is based on clinical observation and thus, by necessity, subjective. Therefore, we evaluate our cases by photographic review by outside expert clinicians and by degree of adherence to the two most recent definitions of IBC: the international expert panel consensus statement and American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) 8th edition (we used the slightly less restrictive 7th edition definition for our study). METHODS We enrolled 267 IBC and 274 age- and geographically matched non-IBC cases at 6 sites in Egypt, Tunisia, and Morocco in a case-control study of IBC conducted between 2009 and 2015. We collected clinico-pathologic and mammographic data and standardized medical photographs of the breast. RESULTS We identified many differences between IBC and non-IBC cases: 54.5% versus 68.8% were estrogen receptor-positive, 39.9% versus 14.8% human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive, 91% versus 4% exhibited erythema, 63% versus 97% had a mass, and 57% versus 10% had mammographic evidence of skin thickening. Seventy-six percent of IBC cases adhered to the expert panel consensus statement and 36% to the AJCC definition; 86 percent were confirmed as IBC by either photographic review or adherence to the consensus statement. CONCLUSIONS We successfully identified distinct groups of IBC and non-IBC cases. The reliability of IBC diagnosis would benefit from expert review of standardized medical photographs and associated clinical information.

Abstract
Mondor's disease can be a challenging diagnosis. The case we present is of a 29 year-old Brazilian woman, under combined hormonal contraception, who consulted for a painful lump on her right breast. She presented a complete resolution after a local treatment of heparinoid cream and a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory oral treatment, but relapsed 18 months later. Oral combined hormonal contraception was the only "risk factor" found, in this case, and the modification of the latter helped resolve the relapse clinical symptoms.
