Abstract
INTRODUCTION The objective of this work was to summarize the incidence of herpes zoster (HZ) complications in different populations. METHODS Systematic literature review of PubMed, Embase, and Virtual Health Library records between January 1, 2002 and October 20, 2022 using search strings for HZ, complications, and frequency measurements. RESULTS The review included 124 studies, most conducted in the general population (n = 93) and on individuals with comorbidities (n = 41) ≥ 18 years of age. Most studies were conducted in Europe (n = 44), Asia (n = 40), and North America (n = 36). Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) was the most studied neurological complication. Variable relative PHN incidence was found in the general population (2.6-46.7%) or based on diagnosis: immunocompromised (3.9-33.8%), depression (0-50%), and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) (6.1-40.2%). High incidence rates were observed in hematological malignancies (HM) and solid organ malignancies (132.5 and 93.7 per 1000 person-years, respectively). Ocular complications were frequently reported with herpes zoster ophthalmicus (HZO). The relative incidence (incidence rate) of HZO in the general population was reported as 1.4-15.9% (0.31-0.35 per 1000 person-years). High relative incidence was observed in HIV (up to 10.1%) and HM (3.2-11.3%). Disseminated HZ was the most frequently reported cutaneous complication. The relative incidence of disseminated HZ was 0.3-8.2% in the general population, 0-0.5% in the immunocompetent, and 0-20.6% in patients with comorbidities. High relative incidence was reported in HM and solid organ transplant (up to 19.3% and 14.8%, respectively). DISCUSSION Most reported complications were neurological (n = 110), ocular (n = 48), and cutaneous (n = 38). Few studies stratified complications by age or gender (or both). Incidence appeared higher in select immunocompromised populations. Higher incidence was associated with older age in several studies; the general association with gender was unclear. CONCLUSIONS Variable incidence of HZ complications was reported by population subgroup. Further research is required to quantitatively analyze incidence by age, gender, and location.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The burden of herpes zoster (shingles) virus and associated complications, such as post-herpetic neuralgia, is higher in older adults and has a significant impact on quality of life. The incidence of herpes zoster and post-herpetic neuralgia is increased in people living with HIV (PLWH) compared to an age-matched general population, including PLWH on long-term antiretroviral therapy (ART) with no detectable viremia and normal CD4 counts. PLWH - even on effective ART may- exhibit sustained immune dysfunction, as well as defects in cells involved in the response to vaccines. In the context of herpes zoster, it is therefore important to assess the immune response to varicella zoster virus vaccination in older PLWH and to determine whether it significantly differs to that of HIV-uninfected healthy adults or younger PLWH. We aim at bridging these knowledge gaps by conducting a multicentric, international, non-randomised clinical study (SHINGR'HIV) with prospective data collection after vaccination with an adjuvant recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV) in two distinct populations: in PLWH on long-term ART (> 10 years) over 50 years of and age/gender matched controls. METHODS We will recruit participants from two large established HIV cohorts in Switzerland and in France in addition to age-/gender-matched HIV-uninfected controls. Participants will receive two doses of RZV two months apart. In depth-evaluation of the humoral, cellular, and innate immune responses and safety profile of the RZV will be performed to address the combined effect of aging and potential immune deficiencies due to chronic HIV infection. The primary study outcome will compare the geometric mean titer (GMT) of gE-specific total IgG measured 1 month after the second dose of RZV between different age groups of PLWH and between PLWH and age-/gender-matched HIV-uninfected controls. DISCUSSION The SHINGR'HIV trial will provide robust data on the immunogenicity and safety profile of RZV in older PLWH to support vaccination guidelines in this population. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Herpes zoster (HZ) and its complications still represent a significant burden for patients and health care systems. In Spain, vaccination is progressively being introduced and recommended for patients between 65 and 80 years old and patients > 18 years of age suffering from certain immunosuppression conditions. The aim of this study is to estimate the number of hospital admissions related to HZ from 2016 to 2019 in Spain. METHODS Data were collected from the Minimum Basic DataSet (MBDS) and codified according to the Spanish version of the 10th International Classification of Disease (ICD-10-CM codes B02-B02.9). Among others, variables such as sex, age and presence of complications were included. RESULTS A total of 27,642 hospitalizations were identified (90% in patients > 50 and 45.8% in patients > 80). Women represented 51.2% of the patients, and 59.9% of patients presented complications related to HZ. The hospitalization rate was 17.74, the mortality rate was 1.2, and the case fatality rate was 6.75%. All rates were significantly higher with age, among men and in complicated HZ. Immunosuppression status for which vaccination had been recommended represented 22.7% of the total cases, affecting mostly individuals > 65 and causing more deaths in those > 80 years. The estimated annual cost of hospitalization for herpes zoster was €35,738,285, and the mean cost per patient was €5172. CONCLUSION The hospitalization burden for HZ is still important in Spain. Data on the current epidemiology are important to evaluate future vaccination strategies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There are still controversies between the curative effect of acupuncture combined with cupping therapy and western medicine for post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN). Our meta-analysis fully incorporates the research of acupuncture combined with cupping therapy versus Western medicine for PHN, aiming to explore the difference in the efficacy of the 2 therapies, so as to provide guidance for clinical treatment. METHODS We searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wanfang, CQVIP, CBM, from establishment of the database to September, 2020. Include studies that are clearly defined as PHN or herpes zoster, and exclude duplicate publications; studies with no full text, incomplete information, or inability to extract data; the definition of exposure is quite different from most literature; animal experiments. RESULTS The total effective rate (relative ratio [RR] = 1.21, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.12-1.31) and the rate of remarkable effect (RR = 1.46, 95% CI: 1.30-1.63) of acupuncture and moxibustion combined with cupping in the treatment of PHN were significantly higher than that of conventional western medicine. The visual analogue scale score of acupuncture and moxibustion combined with cupping for PHN was significantly lower than that of conventional western medicine treatment (WMD = -1.77, 95% CI [-2.79, -0.75]). In addition, acupuncture and moxibustion combined with cupping therapy significantly reduced the occurrence of PHN compared with conventional western medicine treatment after treatment of acute herpes zoster (RR = 0.30, 95% CI: 0.20-0.45). In order to explore the differences in the efficacy and preventive effects of different types of acupuncture and cupping therapy, we have further conducted a subgroup analysis. CONCLUSION The effect of acupuncture and moxibustion combined with cupping in the treatment of PHN is significantly higher than that of conventional western medicine, and it can significantly prevent the occurrence of PHN. Chinese medicine should be used more widely in the treatment of PHN.

Abstract
Purpose In CT-guided dorsal root ganglion puncture, especially T1–T3, it is often difficult to reach the target due to obstruction of the lamina, transverse process, and ribs. Therefore, a safe and effective puncture method with high success rate is urgently needed to guide us in our clinical work. Patients and Methods A total of 44 patients with dorsal root ganglion underwent pulsed radiofrequency therapy for pain T1–T3 herpes zoster neuralgia at the pain department of Affiliated Hospital of Jiaxing University from January 2019 to February 2020 were retrospectively reviewed. Each patient underwent the same surgical method. The patient’s operation time, CT filming times, nerve electrophysiological tests, the NRS scores before and after operation at one, four, eight, and 12 weeks, Pittsburgh Sleep Disorder Index (PSQI), dosage of gabapentin capsules and tramadol hydrochloride sustained-release tablets, surgical complications and incidence of postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) were recorded. Results The success rate of 44 patients who underwent puncturing of the costal transverse process to T1 target was 88.46%, to T2 target was 90.68%, and to T3 target was 90.68%, respectively. The NRS score of patients before surgery was 5.48±0.59, and those at one, four, eight, and 12 weeks after surgery were 3 (3,3), 1 (1,2), 0 (0, 1), and 0 (0, 0). The difference of NRS score between preoperation and postoperation is statistically significant. No intraoperative and postoperative complications occurred. Two patients developed PHN after standard treatment, and the incidence of it was 4.55%. Conclusion CT-guided puncturing of the costal transverse process in the dorsal root ganglion of patients who underwent pulsed radiofrequency treatment of T1–T3 herpes zoster neuralgia showed a high success rate and is considered to be safe and effective.

Abstract
The aim of the study was to evaluate the acceptability and to describe the perception of vaccination against herpes zoster (HZ) for outpatients and hospitalized patients in Lyon, France, aged 65 years and over. An observational study was based on a questionnaire completed from a face-to-face interview from January 2018 to March 2019. Volunteer outpatients who attended private medical laboratories or who were hospitalized in the geriatric department, or who were at the ambulatory medical clinic for a consultation were asked to participate. A total of 907 individuals were interviewed, with a mean age of 75.8 years. A large majority 87.6% (795) knew about HZ and 68.9% (625) would agree to be vaccinated against HZ if they had risk factors. The participants had knowledge of HZ as a disease but vaccine awareness is still lacking among the general public.
