Abstract
BACKGROUND The occurrence of gastrointestinal parasites in the sun-tailed monkey (Allochrocebus solatus) at the CIRMF primatology center is unknown. We, therefore, assessed the presence and richness (number of different parasite taxa) of gastrointestinal parasites in a semi-free-ranging colony of A. solatus. METHODS A total of 46 fecal samples were screened using a modified McMaster technique for fecal egg counts. RESULTS In the 46 samples collected, seven taxa of gastrointestinal parasites, including protozoa and nematodes were identified. The most prevalent parasite was strongyles parasites (98%), followed by Trichuris spp. (72%), Strongyloides spp. (67%) and Entamoeba coli (65%). Balantioides coli (33%), Endolimax nana (25%), and Spirurid eggs (26%) were only found in a minority of the animals. CONCLUSIONS This study contributes new host records of gastrointestinal parasites in semi-free-ranging A. solatus and highlights the need to investigate the health of this species and implement proper precautions in the management of this colony.

Abstract
Stable and positive social bonds are pretty vital to the development of animals. Instability and disruptions of social bonds, such as maternal separation and social isolation, always produce disastrous influence on physiology, neuroendocrine and behaviors. Pair bond is one of the most important social bonds in adulthood. But the different effects of pair bond interruption between males and females are rarely studied. In the present study, the monogamous mandarin voles (Microtus mandarinus) were used to confirm the time window of pair bond formation. After that, voles were separated from their partner for 1 or 2 weeks. Then anxiety- and depression-like behaviors were investigated by using open field test, light-dark box test, tail suspension test and forced swimming test, respectively. The results showed that: (1) cohabitation for 5 days is sufficient and necessary for mandarin voles to form pair bond; (2) loss of partner is always crucial for the effects of pair bond interruption, while social isolation works in certain behavioral tests.; (3) pair bond interruption for 2 weeks significantly increased the level of anxiety and depression in adult males, but not female mandarin voles. Overall, this research suggested that loss of partner plays a key role in pair bond interruption in male mandarin voles.

Abstract
Trichuris spp. (whipworms) are intestinal nematode parasites which cause chronic infections associated with significant morbidities. Trichuris muris in a mouse is the most well studied of the whipworms and research on this species has been approached from a number of different disciplines. Research on T. muris in a laboratory mouse has provided vital insights into the host–parasite interaction through analyses of the immune responses to infection, identifying factors underpinning host susceptibility and resistance. Laboratory studies have also informed strategies for disease control through anthelmintics and vaccine research. On the contrary, research on naturally occurring infections with Trichuris spp. allows the analysis of the host–parasite co-evolutionary relationships and parasite genetic diversity. Furthermore, ecological studies utilizing Trichuris have aided our knowledge of the intricate relationships amongst parasite, host and environment. More recently, studies in wild and semi-wild settings have combined the strengths of the model organism of the house mouse with the complexities of context-dependent physiological responses to infection. This review celebrates the extraordinarily broad range of beneficiaries of whipworm research, from immunologists and parasitologists, through epidemiologists, ecologists and evolutionary biologists to the veterinary and medical communities.
