Abstract
Triclosan (TCS), a biocide used in various day-to-day products, has been associated with several toxic effects in aquatic organisms. In the present study, biochemical and hematological alterations were evaluated after 14 d (sublethal) exposure of tap water (control), acetone (solvent control), 5, 10, 20, and 50 μg/L (environmentally relevant concentrations) TCS to the embryos/hatchlings of Cirrhinus mrigala, a major freshwater carp distributed in tropic and sub-tropical areas of Asia. A concentration-dependent increase in the content of urea and protein carbonyl, while a decrease in the total protein, glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, uric acid, and bilirubin was observed after the exposure. Hematological analysis revealed a decrease in the total erythrocyte count, hemoglobin, and partial pressure of oxygen, while there was an increase in the total leucocyte count, carbon dioxide, and partial pressure of carbon dioxide and serum electrolytes. Comet assay demonstrates a concentration-dependent increase in tail length, tail moment, olive tail moment, and percent tail DNA. An amino acid analyzer showed a TCS-dose-dependent increase in various amino acids. Sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis analysis revealed different proteins ranging from 6.5 to 200 kDa, demonstrating TCS-induced upregulation. Fourier transform infrared spectra analysis exhibited a decline in peak area percents with an increase in the concentration of TCS in water. Curve fitting of amide I (1,700-1600 cm-1) showed a decline in α-helix and turns and an increase in β-sheets. Nuclear magnetic resonance study also revealed concentration-dependent alterations in the metabolites after 14 d exposure. TCS caused alterations in the biomolecules and heamatological parameters of fish, raising the possibility that small amounts of TCS may change the species richness in natural aquatic habitats. In addition, consuming TCS-contaminated fish may have detrimental effects on human health. Consequently, there is a need for the proper utilisation and disposal of this hazardous compound in legitimate quantities.

Abstract
Rapeseed oil, constituting 12% of global vegetable oil production, is susceptible to quality degradation due to stress-induced incomplete seed degreening, fatty acid oxidation, or poor nutrient accumulation. We hypothesise that the hyperphosphorylated nucleotide alarmone ppGpp (guanosine tetraphosphate), acts as a pivotal regulator of these processes, given its established roles in nutrient management, degreening, and ROS regulation in leaves. Using qPCR, UHPLC-MS/MS, and biochemical methods, our study delves into the impact of ppGpp on seed nutritional value. We observed a positive correlation between ppGpp levels and desiccation, and a negative correlation with photosynthetic pigment levels. Trends in antioxidant activity suggest that ppGpp may negatively influence peroxidases, which are safeguarding against chlorophyll decomposition. Notably, despite increasing ppGpp levels, sugars, proteins and oils appear unaffected. This newfound role of ppGpp in seed development suggests it regulates the endogenous antioxidant system during degreening and desiccation, preserving nutritional quality. Further validation through mutant-based research is needed.

Abstract
Lambda-cyhalothrin, also known as cyhalothrin, is an efficient, broad-spectrum, quick-acting pyrethroid insecticide and acaricide and the most powerful pyrethroid insecticide in the world. However, there is increasing evidence that lambda-cyhalothrin is closely related to a variety of toxicity drawbacks (hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, neurotoxicity and reproductive toxicity, among others) in non-target organisms, and oxidative stress seems to be the main mechanism of toxicity. This manuscript reviews the oxidative and mitochondrial damage induced by lambda-cyhalothrin and the signalling pathways involved in this process, indicating that oxidative stress occupies an important position in lambda-cyhalothrin toxicity. The mechanism of antioxidants to alleviate the toxicity of lambda-cyhalothrin is also discussed. In addition, the metabolites of lambda-cyhalothrin and the major metabolic enzymes involved in metabolic reactions are summarized. This review article reveals a key mechanism of lambda-cyhalothrin toxicity-oxidative damage and suggests that the use of antioxidants seems to be an effective method for preventing toxicity.

Abstract
Procyanidin is a group of dietary flavonoids abundant in berry fruits. In this study, the effects and underlying mechanisms of B type procyanidin (PC) on free radical and metal ion (H2O2, AAPH and Fe3+) induced milk protein β-lactoglobulin (BLG) glyco-oxidation were investigated. The results indicated that PC protected BLG structure changes from cross-link and aggregation induced by free radicals and metal ion. Additionally, it effectively inhibited BLG oxidation by reducing approximately 21%-30% carbonyls and 15%-61% schiff base crosslink formation. Also, PC suppressed BLG glycation by inhibiting 48-70% advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) and reduced the accumulation of intermediate product methylglyoxal (MGO). The corresponding mechanisms were elucidated that PC exhibited great free radical scavenging and metal chelating properties; PC had non-covalent bind with the amino acid residues (preferably lysine and arginine) of BLG and blocked them from glycation; PC interrupted BLG glycation by forming procyanidin-MGO conjugates. Therefore, B type procyanidin was an effective glyco-oxidation inhibitor in milk products.

Abstract
Lysine acetylation is a common post-translational modification of proteins within all organisms. However, quantitative acetylome characterization in wheat seed during aging in storage has not been reported. This study reports the first large-scale acetylome analysis of wheat seeds after artificial aging treatment, using the quantitative proteomic approach. In total, 11,002 acetylation sites, corresponding to 4262 acetylated proteins were identified, of which 1207 acetylated sites, representing 783 acetylated proteins, were significantly more or less acetylated after artificial aging. Functional analysis demonstrated that the majority of the acetylated proteins are closely involved with cellular and metabolic functions. In particular, key enzymes in the oxidative stress response and energy metabolism were significantly differentially acetylated and appear to be heavily involved in wheat seed aging. The acetylome analysis was verified by quantitative real-time PCR and enzyme activity determination. Lysine-acetylation results in a weaker oxidative stress response and lower energy production efficiency, resulting in the apoptosis of wheat seed cells, insufficient energy supply at the germination stage, and consequently, marked loss of seed vigor. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: It is known that the loss of protein function is an important reason for the decrease of seed vigor. Therefore, the change of protein function in the process of wheat seed aging was studied by proteome and lysine acetylome analysis technology. The results showed that the oxidation-reduction imbalance and the decrease of energy production efficiency of seeds were the important reasons for the decrease of their vigor. This will provide a new idea for green and safe storage of grain.

Abstract
AbstractBeneath glycation, oxidation reactions may take place at cereal proteins during production of malt. The extent of oxidative chemical changes at malt proteins has not yet been studied. In the present short communication, malt protein was characterized by the determination of free thiol groups and degree of methionine oxidation as well as the sites that are reactive to covalent modification by 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (DNPH, “protein carbonylation”). Protein carbonylation in pale malts was around 1.5 nmol/mg protein and increased with increasing malt colour. Investigations on the protein pellet isolated for determination of carbonylation revealed that solubility and colour may disturb the quantification of carbonyl sites in roasted malts. Free thiols decreased with increasing malt colour already in pale malts (EBC < 10). The formation of methionine sulfoxide (MetSO) was intensified with increasing malt colour. An amount of 7–20% of methionine was converted to MetSO in pale and dark malt, whereas nearly 60% of methionine was oxidized to MetSO in roasted malts. The formation of methionine sulfone was negligible. This study shows that malt proteins suffer from oxidation during kilning, and future studies will have to show whether this supports the pro- or antioxidant activity of malt.

Abstract
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are critical factors that cause damage in salt-stressed plants, but their mechanisms of action in living cells are largely unknown. We investigated the roles of reactive carbonyl species (RCS), i.e., the lipid peroxide-derived α,β-unsaturated aldehydes and ketones, in plant growth retardation under salt stress. When Arabidopsis thaliana Col-0 seeds were exposed to 100 mM NaCl, germination was delayed and the levels of ROS, RCS, and protein carbonylation in the seedlings were increased. Adding the histidine-containing dipeptides carnosine, N-acetylcarnosine, and anserine, which are reported RCS scavengers, restored the germination speed and suppressed the increases in RCS and protein carbonylation but did not affect the ROS level. Increases in the levels of the RCS acrolein, crotonaldehyde, (E)-2-pentenal, and 4-hydroxy-(E)-2-nonenal were positively correlated with the delay of germination and growth inhibition. These RCS, generated downstream of ROS, are thus primarily responsible for the salt-stress symptoms of plants.

Abstract
Oxidative stress resulted from reactive oxygen or nitrogen species in biological
systems has a significant role in the diagnosis/progression of several human
diseases. Human diseases associated with oxidative stress include Alzheimer's
disease, chronic lung disease, chronic renal failure, cancer, diabetes, and
fibrosis. In oxidative stress conditions, carbonylation process can be described
as one of the most common modifications in biomolecules that takes place in the
presence of carbonyl (C = O) groups which are introduced into molecules by
direct metal-catalyzed oxidation of certain amino acids or indirectly by
reaction with the oxidation of lipids and sugars. At a molecular cellular level,
carbonylation can cause some defective biological consequences or chemical
transformations in cells. During this process, specifically, carbonylated
proteins can be accumulated in cells and trigger to develop some diseases in
human body. The role of the accumulation of carbonylated proteins in the
progression of several diseases has also been reported in the literature, such
as neurodegenerative diseases, diabetes, obesity, aging, and cancer. Early
detection of carbonylation process is, therefore, very critical to monitor these
diseases at an early stage. Finding a suitable biomarker or probe is very
challenging due to the need for multiple criteria: high fluorescence efficiency,
stability, toxicity, and permeability. If they are designed with a good
strategy, these probes are highly effective in cell biology applications and
they can be used as good diagnostic tools for monitoring oxidative
stress-induced carbonylation in relevant diseases. This review highlights the
design and use of recent fluorescent probes for visualization of carbonylation
in cellular systems and the relationship between oxidative stress and carbonyl
species for causing long-term disease complications.
