Abstract
BACKGROUND India has a massive population of bovines, which makes the framework of the economy mainly relying on milk and meat production. Parasitic diseases such as babesiosis are detrimental to bovines by decreasing animal welfare and production efficiency. AIM Performing a meta-analysis of the prevalence of babesiosis over 30 years viz 1990 to 2019 within India to pool out individual studies from different country regions. MATERIAL AND METHODS The studies were reviewed thoroughly to assess the quality, and it was done by following the preferred reporting items for systematic review and meta-analysis (PRISMA) and MOOSE protocols. The prevalence of babesiosis in cattle and buffaloes was calculated using meta-analysis tools using R-software and Q Statistics. RESULTS The systematic review and meta-analysis performed on 47 studies among bovine, 48 studies among cattle, and 13 studies among buffaloes revealed the (pooled) prevalence of babesiosis in India as 10.9% (6.3%-18.2%; Q = 5132.03, d.f. = 46, P < 0.001), 11.9% (6.9%-19.8%; Q = 5060.2, d.f.=47, P < 0.001), and 6.0% (2.6%-13.2%; Q = 500.55, d.f.=12, P < 0.001), respectively, which provides a rather exact scenario of the prevalence of this haemoparasitic disease across the country. In addition, cattle were having higher risk of babesiosis than buffalo. CONCLUSION The findings from the meta-analysis showed that the disease is prevalent across the country, and that bovines are highly affected by it. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Appropriate prevention and control measures should be taken to mitigate this disease and enhance welfare and production performances of bovines.

Abstract
The blood parasites adversely affect the bovine population and are one of the major hindrances to productivity and health of livestock, globally. This study aimed to study the prevalence of some bovine hemoparasites, their molecular characterization, and associated risk factors in and around Bhubaneswar, a place in Eastern India. Microscopy (Giemsa stained thin blood smear) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based prevalence studies were undertaken for a total of 106bovine blood samples belonging to different breed, age, and sex presented to Veterinary Clinical Complex. DNA was extracted by conventional method and primer targeting msp5 gene (382 bp) for Anaplasma marginale, Tams1 gene (572 bp) for Theileria annulata and VSG RoTat 1.2 gene (110 bp) for Trypanosoma evansi, were used. Sequencing and phylogenetic analysis were also carried out for representative PCR products. The risk factors were correlated with prevalence by logistic regression analysis. Blood smear examination revealed a prevalence an overall of 48.11% (51/106) out of which the prevalence of T. annulata, A. marginale and T. evansi, and concurrent infection were reported to be 26.42%, 10.38%, 3.77%, and 7.55% respectively. All the samples found positive in microscopy were also found positive in PCR. PCR assay revealed an overall prevalence of 73.58% (T. annulata: 37.74%, A. marginale:17.92%, T. evansi: 5.66% and concurrent infection:12.26%). A higher prevalence was observed in the age group of 2-4 years (37.74%), females (61.32%) and cross-bred Jersey (50%). Representative PCR products were sequenced and assigned by GenBank (OL550058: A. marginale; OL604429: T. annulata and OL550059: T. evansi). There is a paucity of disease mapping of these parasites in most parts of the country. The study is probably the first report of molecular characterization of T. evansi and A. marginale from the region which gives some information of possible genetic diversity of the isolates circulating in the region. Future research should include large-scale epidemiological surveys as well as concurrent diagnosis of these hemoparasites for better treatment and control strategies.

Abstract
The present study was performed to survey the dominant tick populations and molecularly determine the pathogenic agents of anaplasmosis in ticks from Gyeongsang, Republic of Korea. A total of 3825 questing ticks were collected by the flagging method from 12 sites near animal farms in Gyeongsang from March to October 2021. A molecular genomic study was performed with ticks stored in 70% ethanol to detect Anaplasma genes by the previously described method. The monthly incidence of ticks varied by developmental stages, i.e., nymphs, adults, and larvae, and each of their populations peaked in May, March, and October, respectively. The predominant tick species were Haemaphysalis longicornis, Haemaphysalis sp., Haemaphysalis flava, Ixodes nipponensis, and Amblyomma testudinarium in order. To determine the Anaplasma infection rate, collected ticks were pooled into 395 groups. The minimum infection rate (MIR) of Anaplasma was 0.7% (27 pools). That of A. phagocytophilum was highest (23 pools, MIR 0.6%), followed by A. phagocytophilum-like Anaplasma spp. clade B (2 pools, MIR 0.1%), A. bovis (1 pool, MIR 0.1%), and A. capra (1 pool, MIR 0.1%), respectively. In this study, five species of ticks, including unidentified Haemaphysalis species, were collected in 12 survey sites in Gyeongsang, but their prevalence was somewhat different according to the tick species and survey sites. Further, the incidence rate (6.8%) of 4 Anaplasma spp. was not as high in tick pools. However, the results of this study may offer a basis for future epidemiological research and risk assessment of tick-borne diseases.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate molecular epidemiology of Theileria spp. in ticks in Korea and assess their potential threat from wildlife animals to domestic animals. A total of 21152 hard ticks were collected from Chungcheong and Jeolla provinces of Korea from March to October 2021. Tick species were identified by microscopy and Theileria spp. were screened by nested PCR targeting 18S rRNA. Haemaphysalis spp. were the most abundant tick species, followed by H. longicornis, H. flava, Amblyomma testudinarium, and Ixodes nipponensis. Of the collected ticks, 6914 ticks (541 pools) were screened, and PCR showed 211 positive pools (39.0%; MIR: 3.05). The PCR and phylogenetic analysis identified two Theileria species, T. luwenshuni and Theileria sp., with T. luwenshuni (162/211, 76.78%; MIR: 2.34) being more abundant than Theileria sp. (36/211, 17.06%; MIR: 0.52); co-infection of the two species were noted (13/211, 6.16%; MIR: 0.19). Among the tick species, H. longicornis, especially nymphs, showed the highest prevalence. Regarding season, the highest prevalence was observed in May. Considering the tick and Theileria species identified in this study, H. longicornis nymph and cervine play a critical role in maintaining Theileria spp. in Korea and could be a potential threat to domestic animals, including deer and goats. In addition, there are significant correlations among tick distribution, region, season, and prevalence of Theileria.

Abstract
The present study was focused on the incidence of ticks and tick-borne diseases (TTBD) in cross-bred cattle (Friesian x Sahiwal) of two farms (n = 2548) in district Lahore, Pakistan. We collected total of 572 ticks (adults and nymphs) and blood samples (10 ml) for microscopic i.e., blood smear test - Giemsa Stain (BST) and molecular analysis; Reverse Line Blot-General Primer-PCR (RLB-PCR) and Specie Specific Primer PCR (SP-PCR) from infested cattle (n = 100) from months of April to September. Results: The tick specie identified was Rhipicephalus microplus at both farms, with significant difference in infestations rate amongst both farms (p< 0.0001). The cross-bred cattle having higher ratio of Friesian blood and lower ratio of Sahiwal blood were mostly infested by ticks (p < 0.0458) and haemoparasites (p <0.474) and vice versa. The SP-PCR showed higher number of haemoparasites infection than BST, which revealed 16% T. annulata (p < 0.0001 and k value 0.485, 0.0001), 51% B. bigemina (p < 0.0001 and k value 0.485, 0.0001) and 15% A. marginale (p < 0.001 and k value 0.207, 0.001), respectively. The single infection with B. bigemina was 34% (n = 34/100) and A. marginale 6% (n = 6/100). The double infection with T. annulata/B. bigemina was 8% (n = 8/100) and B. bigemina/A. marginale 1% (n = 1/100). Whereas the triple infection with T. annulata/B. bigemina/A .marginale was 8% (n = 8/100). The phylogenetic study of isolated sequence of T. annulata revealed close homology to isolates from Iran (87%), B. bigemina to isolates from Cuba (94 to 100%) and A. marginale with isolates from Pakistan (99 to 98%).

Abstract
Bovine babesiosis is a serious threat to the livestock sector especially in tropical countries like India. Understanding the epidemiology of the disease in the country is essentially important in strategizing the available methods to effectively control the disease. Keeping this as the background, the present study was undertaken to estimate the pooled prevalence of bovine babesiosis in India. The relevant literature pertaining to bovine babesiosis was identified and a total of 49 studies published between 1983 and 2018 were included in the final systematic review and meta-analysis. Meta-analysis was conducted using meta-package of R software and prevalence estimates were calculated. Bovine babesiosis was reported from 21 states of India with pooled prevalence estimate of 6% (95% CI = 4%-9%) using random effect model. Zone wise analysis revealed highest pooled prevalence in the west zone and north zone (8%) followed by east zone (7%), central zone (6%), south zone (4%) and northeast zone (4%). The results of meta-analysis indicated high variability between studies. In addition, the pooled seroprevalence was high (29%) compared to prevalence of active infection (5%) of bovine babesiosis in India. Further, the pooled prevalence estimate of B. bigemina infection in India was more (7%) compared to B. bovis infection (1%). The estimation of prevalence of active infection and seroprevalence separately will helps to understand the actual disease prevalence in the country. The study indicated the wide prevalence of bovine babesiosis in India which urges for immediate mitigation strategies.

Abstract
Objectives Anaplasmosis is an economically important disease affecting cattle, buffalo, sheep, goat etc. The study was conducted to determine the prevalence, potential risk factors and molecular identification of circulating Anaplasma spp. in goats in Chattogram district, Bangladesh. Material and methods Four hundred blood samples were collected from goats of different ages, breeds, sex, coat color and body condition. These goats were selected based on some inclusion criteria through the period of July 2017 to June 2018. Samples were examined microscopically (Giemsa staining method) followed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequencing to identify of Anaplasma spp. Results The overall prevalences were estimated 5.75% (23/400) and 15.75% (63/400) by microscopy and PCR, respectively. Anaplasma ovis (A. ovis) and Anaplasma marginale (A. marginale) were identified with the prevalence of 14.75% (59/400) and 1.0% (4/400), respectively through PCR. Among different risk factors, jamnapari breed (p = 0.027), no use of acaricide (p = 0.025) and presence of tick (p < 0.01) were found to be significantly associated with anaplasmosis. Sequence analysis of msp4 gene revealed that, Anaplasma spp. detected in the present study were highly similar with those of China, Venezuela, Mongolia, Spain, Tunisia, Cyprus, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, Japan and Columbia. Conclusions In conclusion, strategic use of acaricide can control tick that ultimately will control the anaplasmosis in goats. Besides, rearing local goats in compare to cross and exotic breed are also recommended for the farmer to prevent the disease.

Abstract
The present study describes the genetic diversity in the Tams1 gene (733 bp) of Theileria annulata along with the sequence, phylogenetic and haplotype analyses of the Indian isolates. The phylogenetic analyses displayed distinct clustering of the Indian isolates into three groups suggesting the presence of three genotypes, hitherto designated as T. annulata genotypes 1-3 (G1-G3). Genotype 3 seems to be novel containing only two newly generated sequences. Indian isolates displayed 88.4-100% and 82.2-100% similarity with each other at nucleotide (nt) and amino acid (aa) levels, respectively. However, the newly generated sequences (n = 36) showed 90.5-100% and 84.3-100% identity between them at nt and aa levels, respectively. The most diverse and heterogeneous genotype, G1, exhibited the highest number of polymorphic sites (S = 148), haplotypes (h = 16) and nucleotide differences (k = 43.23) besides haplotype (Hd = 0.903 ± 0.031) and nucleotide (π = 0.059 ± 0.005) diversities. Neutrality indices suggested a respective decrease and increase in population sizes of G1 and G2 genotypes in India. The nucleotide sequence analyses indicated the presence of extensive sequence variations between nucleotide positions 1-124, 194-257 and 396-494. The N-terminus of Tams1 protein displayed a considerable sequence variability with extensive variations in two regions, between amino acid positions 1-39 and 127-172, as compared to the conserved carboxyl terminus.

Abstract
Tick borne haemoparasitic diseases (THBDs) account for substantial losses in terms of decreased working capacity, growth and productivity of cattle. The occurrence of TBHDs in dairy animals of eastern Haryana was studied by screening 3,200 blood samples during the period of July 2014 to June 2019. The examination of stained blood smears from pyretic cross bred cows (2,339) and buffaloes (861) revealed significantly higher infection in cows (50.5%) than buffaloes (0.6%). Among the haemoprotozoan diseases, the occurrence of theileriosis in pyretic dairy animals was found to be high (32.6%), followed by anaplasmosis (2.4%) and babesiosis (2.0%). TBHDs were found most prevalent in summers (42.4%), followed by rainy season (38.3%) and least in winters (27.5%). Low Hb and TEC levels and increase in TLC count was noted in TBHDs affected animal as compared to healthy group. Year-wise, among haemoparasitic infection, particularly Theileriosis was higher during 2014-15 followed by decline in 2015-16 and later revealed increasing percentage of haemoparasitic infection in dairy animals every year.

Abstract
Anaplasmosis is an infectious disease affecting goats and other ruminants. Our goal was to estimate the prevalence of Anaplasma spp. infections, and to identify different tick species in goa ts along with their associated risk factors. The epidemiology of Anaplasma spp. (A. ovis/A. marginale) was investigated from April to September 2016 in dairy goats from three different agro-ecological areas in the northeast region of Algeria (Guelma and El-Taref). We tested 182 goat sera using a MSP5 competitive ELISA (cELISA) test for IgG antibody screening, and by microscopic examination using the Giemsa (May-Greunwald-Giemsa) stain of 128 blood smears to detect intraerythrocytic inclusions bodies. The results demonstrated a total infection rate of 78.02 % and 42.18 % using cELISA and MGG, respectively. Only two species of ticks collected were identified, i. e. Rhipicephalus sanguineus (85.39 %) and Rhipicephalus bursa (14.60 %). Our study revealed that factors, such as the season, the type of farming, the hygienic status and the climatic conditions of the studied areas were found to be significantly associated with the tick infestation of goats (P < 0.05). The Anaplasma spp. infection prevalence was found to be highly dependent on the climatic conditions, the season (P < 0.05) and most closely related to the type of breeding and herd management (P = 0.000).
The evaluation of the Giemsa technique showed specificity and sensitivity of 60.71 % and 45.16 % respectively. Calculating the concordance between the two techniques revealed Cohen’s Kappa value of 0.038 in the range 0.21—0.40, which corresponded to a very low agreement. The McNemar test results showed that both tests gave significantly different results (P < 0.05). This work provides evidence for Anaplasma spp. in goats from north-eastern Algeria.

Abstract
Livestock in general and dairy sector in particular plays a vital role in the Indian economy and in the socio-economic development of millions of people. Rhipicephalus microplus, a one-host and the most prevalent cattle tick in various agro climatic zones of India. This tick species is responsible for severe economic losses to livestock owners both through the direct effects of blood sucking, injection of toxins and indirectly by transmitting pathogens. Due to inadvertent and indiscriminate use of chemicals to kill ticks, field tick population has developed resistance to almost all chemicals that are used to manage them. The intention of this review is to provide the current status of resistance in ticks, the possible mechanisms of resistance operating in the tick population, factors contributing to the development of resistance and the managemental strategies.

Abstract
A multiplex PCR (mPCR) assay for simultaneous detection and differentiation of four major haemoparasites in crossbred cattle was established using parasite specific genomic DNA and four sets of primer pairs targeting AMA-1, Tams1, MSP5 and VSG genes of Babesia bigemina, Theileria annulata, Anaplasma marginale and Trypanosoma evansi generating precise amplicons of 448, 156, 382 and 110 bp, respectively. An internal amplification control, 202 bp bovine β-casein gene fragment, was simultaneously amplified with four target genes to avoid false-negative results. The sensitivity of mPCR was 3.44 × 102, 5.9 × 103, 2.88 × 102 and 3.3 × 103 copies for B. bigemina, T. annulata, A. marginale and T. evansi, respectively. mPCR of cattle clinical samples (n = 516), suspected for haemoparasites, revealed single haemoparasitic infection in 279 (54.06%) cases, whereas mixed infection was recorded in 54 (10.46%) samples. In clinical samples, coinfection with T. annulata and A. marginale was the most common. The findings of mPCR were consistent with uniplex PCR under field conditions except for subtle variations in A. marginale infection. Overall, the mPCR assay represents an economical, reproducible and robust diagnostic tool for concurrent detection of cattle haemoparasites and large scale epidemiological studies.

Abstract
Background and Aim Theileriosis is a parasitic disease caused by the hemoprotozoan Theileria spp. The main transmission route of this disease is through tick vector bite. Theileriosis causes economic losses in livestock such as Bali cattle. This study aims to analyze the prevalence of theileriosis and its correlation with the hematological profile of Bali cattle from the subdistrict of Muara Bulian, Batang Hari, Jambi, Indonesia. Materials and Methods Ninety-four blood samples were collected through jugular vein of Bali cattle. The presence of Theileria spp. was determined using blood smear. Routine blood tests and double-staining immunohistochemistry against CD4+ and CD8+ lymphocytes were conducted on all blood samples. Results A total of 34.04% of the samples were infected by Theileria spp. Theileriosis affected only hemoglobin level (p<0.05); it did not affect the other parameters of the hematological profile (p>0.05). However, it also decreased CD4+ and CD4+/CD8+ ratio (p<0.05), besides increasing CD8+ (p<0.05). Conclusion Theileriosis does not change the hematological profile of Bali cattle except for the hemoglobin levels. Moreover, it promotes T-cell depletion.

Abstract
Genetic characterization of Theileria species infecting bovines in India was attempted targeting the 18S ribosomal RNA region of the parasite. Blood samples of bovines (n = 452), suspected for haemoprotozoan infections, from 9 different states of the country were microscopically examined for Theileria species infection. Four Theileria spp. positive blood samples from each state were randomly utilized for PCR amplification of the 18S rRNA gene (approx. 1529 bp) followed by cloning and sequencing. The sequence data analysis of all the 36 isolates revealed that 33 isolates had high sequence similarity with published sequences of T. annulata, whereas 3 isolates (MF287917, MF287924 and MF287928) showed close similarity with published sequences of T. orientalis. Sequence homology within the isolates ranged between 95.8 and 100% and variation in the length of targeted region was also noticed in different isolates (1527-1538 nt). Phylogenetic tree created for T. annulata sequences revealed that a total of 24 Indian isolates formed a major clade and grouped together with isolates originating from countries like China, Spain, Turkey and USA. Remaining 09 isolates clustered in a separate group and were closely related to the TA5 isolate of T. annulata (a new genotype) originating from India and also with the isolates from East Asian countries like Japan and Malaysia. All the three T. orientalis isolates had minimal intraspecific variation (99-100% homology) amongst themselves. Further, in the phylogenetic analysis T. orientalis Indian isolates were found to cluster away from other 14 isolates of T. buffeli/sergenti/orientalis originating from different countries (Australia, China, Indonesia and Spain). However, these 3 isolates clustered together with the T. buffeli Indian isolate (EF126184). Present study confirmed the circulation of different genotypes of T. annulata in India, along with T. orientalis isolates.

Abstract
Theileriosis is a fatal haemoprotozoan disease which is a major threat to dairy and related industries. This study was undertaken to ascertain haematological changes and molecular diagnosis of Theileria annulata in crossbred cows. The infected group showed significantly lowered mean values of TEC, Hb, PCV and thrombocytes. Also the red blood cell (RBC) indices, viz. MCV, MCH, and MCHC were significantly lower indicating hypochromic microcytic anaemia. Out of 652 blood samples analysed by Giemsa stain, the overall prevalence of theileriosis was 36.3% during July 2015 to June 2017. Highest positivity of Theileriosis was noticed in summer (40.1%) followed by Spring/autumn (38.3%), rainy (34.3%) and lowest in winter (31.5%). About 48% blood samples were positive for Theileria annulata by 18SrRNA and TASP gene based PCR.

Abstract
A study was carried out to determine the prevalence of haemoparasites in cattle in Cauvery delta region over a period of one year. A total of 228 giemsa stained blood smears were screened for the presence of haemoprotozoa, out of which 34 animals were found to be positive. An overall prevalence of haemoparasites in the sampled cattle were 14.9%, among this Anaplasma sp (8.3%), Babesia sp (3.95%), Theileria sp (2.19%) and Trypanosoma sp (0.44%) as single or mixed blood parasitic infections. In this study Anaplasmosis (14%) was highly prevalent during the winter season and Babesiosis (13.73%) was highly prevalent during summer months followed by Anaplasmosis (9.8%) and Theileriosis (7.8%), the lowest prevalence of Trypanosomiasis was observed during the rainy season. The seasonal variation in prevalence of haemoprotozoan disease might be due to influence of climatic factors on density of vector population in that geographical area. Haemogram revealed decreased level of haemoglobulin, packed cell volume and total erythrocyte count. The serum biochemistry revealed elevated level of liver enzyme Asparate transaminase enzyme. All haemoparasitaemic animals were treated with specific drugs and recovered successfully.

Abstract
In the present study, the prevalence of Anaplasma species in diary animals from India and World was estimated using meta-analysis. Based on systematic review of studies on Anaplasma species from India [35] and World [66] from 1988 to 2017 and 1978-2017, respectively, using online databases and offline literatures, meta-analysis using meta package in R-Software was done. Prevalence of Anaplasma species in India and World were 11% [95% level, Confidence Interval[CI] 7-16%, Prediction Interval[PI] 1-69%] and 39% [95% level, CI 30-49%, PI 2-95%], and these were obtained using 31,117 and 46,365 samples, respectively. Period-wise analysis revealed high Anaplasma species prevalence before 2011 for India and the World than from 2011 through 2017. Zone-wise prevalence indicated high prevalence in Central zone [61%] and low in West and South zones [6%] in India, and continent-wise, it was high in South America [82%]. The studies used methods including blood smear examination, serology and nucleic acid-based techniques and revealed high prevalence in serology for India [34%] and World [46%], low prevalence by blood smear for India [7%] and World [21%], but higher sensitivity using nucleic acid-based techniques. Species-wise indicated higher prevalence in cattle [12%] than buffaloes [2%] in India. Prevalence was lower in India compared to the World and higher in South America. Overall, anaplasmosis causes low productivity in dairy animals and economic loss to dairy farmers. Hence, there is a need to control Anaplasma infections in high risk areas by adopting effective therapeutic and preventive measures so as to improve the economic benefits in dairy farming.

Abstract
This study describes development and evaluation of a multiplex PCR assay for simultaneous detection of Theileria annulata, Babesia bigemina and Anaplasma marginale infections in bovines. The assay was developed using parasites specific genomic DNA and three sets of PCR primers targeting the Tams1, 18S rRNA and 16S rRNA genes of T. annulata, B. bigemina and A. marginale, respectively. Blood samples collected from a total of 461 bovines, suspected for haemoparasitic infections, were examined microscopically to record the status of infection and simultaneously, genomic DNA extracted from these blood samples were utilized for the optimization and validation of multiplex PCR assay. Microscopic examination of blood samples revealed presence of single and multiple species of haemoparasites in 25.8% and 2.4% samples, respectively. Results of multiplex PCR revealed the presence of single haemoparasitic species infection in 159 cases (34.5%), whereas mixed infection was recorded in 82 (17.8%) samples. Occurrence of individual species infection detected by mPCR in the study was 26.03% (120/461) for T. annulata, 3.25% (15/461) for B. bigemina and 5.20% (24/461) for A. marginale. The detection limit of multiplex PCR assay was at the template dilutions of 10-6, 10-6 and 10-4, which corresponded to 0.1 pg, 0.1 pg and 10.0 pg of DNA for T. annulata, A. marginale, and B. bigemina, respectively. Based on the high diagnostic sensitivity and throughput, multiplex PCR assay developed in the present study could be exploited as a tool to conduct large-scale epidemiological survey for tick-borne haemoparasitic infection of bovines.

Abstract
Aim: This study was conducted to demonstrate the acaricide efficacy of novel indigenous veterinary medication shared by an outstanding knowledge holder against naturally infested cattle and efforts in mainstreaming such wisdom. Materials and Methods: An indigenous herbal medication in control of tick infestation was documented, and experimentation was held against naturally affected cattle. Eighteen clinically infested cattle population comprising 16 crossbred and 2 non-descript cattle were purposively selected. Majority of them were adult females, reported with a higher incidence of tick at Veterinary institution. The average pre-treatment tick count at 24 sites of observations among these animals was 18.91±2.04 (Mean [x̄]±standard error [SE]). The medication was topically applied once daily for 2 days and post-treatment observations were recorded for an experimental period of 14 days’ duration. Results: During 24-h post-treatment observation, the medication had shown 92.95% acaricidal property with clinically irrelevant rate of tick infestation of 1.33±0.39 (x̄ ±SE) was noticed before application of subsequent (second) dosage. This practice was found significantly effective at 5% level of significance (t0.05, 23=9.08) illustrating faster relief to livestock. Animals were treated with herbal medication as per dosage on the second day and no reinfestation was noticed up to 14 days of experimental observation. Conclusion: The study strengthens the belief that indigenous herbal acaricide can facilitate quality livestock service at geographically distant locations. These medications can provide quicker relief, minimize tick resistance and are favorable to the environment.

Abstract
Cultured Babesia bovis and Babesia bigemina were recovered from liquid nitrogen storage nearly 30 years after they were cryopreserved. Four cattle were compared as donors of erythrocytes and serum for microaerophilous stationary phase (MASP) cultures for recovery of B. bigemina. Erythrocytes and serum from only one (#913) of the four animals supported growth of B. bigemina. Two B. bigemina (frozen in 1986 and 1987) and two B. bovis (both frozen in 1986) cryostocks were recovered from liquid nitrogen storage and all four recovered and thrived in #913 erythrocytes and serum. In the third passage after recovery, B. bovis cultures were cryopreserved. Six months later they were successfully recovered using #913 erythrocytes and serum. This study shows that B. bovis and B. bigemina stored nearly 30 years in liquid nitrogen can be successfully recovered in the MASP system. This study also confirms previous observations that selection of a suitable bovine donor of erythrocytes and serum is critical to the success of the culture.

Abstract
Aim: The aim of the present study is to assess the prevalence of intestinal and haemoprotozoan parasites of small ruminants (Sheep and Goats) in North Western part of Tamil Nadu, India. Materials and Methods: A total of 630 faecal samples (251-sheep, 379-goats) and 554 blood smears (242-sheep, 312-goats) were examined, for the presence of eggs of intestinal and haemoprotozoan parasites, respectively. The samples were received from the Veterinary college hospital and Veterinary dispensaries in North Western part of Tamil Nadu. Faecal samples were processed by sedimentation technique and examined under low power objective (×10), and blood smears were stained using Giemsa’s technique and examined under oil immersion (×100). Result: The analysis of data on the prevalence of intestinal and haemoprotozoan parasites of sheep and goats in North Western part of Tamil Nadu for the period from 2004 to 2013, showed an overall prevalence of intestinal parasites was found to be 67% and 35% in sheep and goats, respectively, whereas only 11% of sheep and 3% of goats had the haemoprotozoan parasitic infection. Highly, significant difference (p<0.01) in the prevalence of intestinal (χ2=65), and hemoprotozoan (χ2=15.4) parasitism was observed between sheep and goats. Intestinal parasites such as strongyles, Trichuris, Moniezia, amphistome, and coccidia were identified in which the highest prevalence was observed with coccidia, followed by strongyles, Monezia, Trichuris, and least with amphistome in both the sheep and goats. The haemoprotozoan parasites recorded were Theileria and Anaplasma species, of which, Anaplasma spp. being the highest and Theileria spp. the least prevalent in both the sheep and goats. The seasonal prevalence of intestinal parasites showed highest in rainy season, followed by moderate in winter and least with summer in both the sheep and goats, whereas the haemoprotozoan parasites recorded were the highest in summer followed by winter and least with rainy season. Conclusion: The present study suggests that North Western part of Tamil Nadu is highly endemic for intestinal parasites such as coccidia and strongyles and haemoprotozoans such as Anaplasma and Theileria species in small ruminants.
