Abstract
Photobiomodulation therapy (PBM) has shown positive effects when applied locally to modulate the inflammatory process and facilitate muscle repair. However, the available literature on the mechanisms of action of vascular photobiomodulation (VPBM), a non-invasive method of vascular irradiation, specifically in the context of local muscle repair, is limited. Thus, this study aimed to assess the impact of vascular photobiomodulation (VPBM) using a low-level laser (LLL) on the inflammatory response and the process of skeletal muscle repair whether administered prior to or following cryoinjury-induced acute muscle damage in the tibialis anterior (TA) muscles. Wistar rats (n = 85) were organized into the following experimental groups: (1) Control (n = 5); (2) Non-Injury + VPBM (n = 20); (3) Injured (n = 20); (4) Pre-VPBM + Injury (n = 20); (5) Injury + Post-VPBM (n = 20). VPBM was administered over the vein/artery at the base of the animals' tails (wavelength: 780 nm; power: 40 mW; application area: 0.04 cm2; energy density: 80 J/cm2). Euthanasia of the animals was carried out at 1, 2, 5, and 7 days after inducing the injuries. Tibialis anterior (TA) muscles were collected for both qualitative and quantitative histological analysis using H&E staining and for assessing protein expression of TNF-α, MCP-1, IL-1β, and IL-6 via ELISA. Blood samples were collected and analyzed using an automatic hematological analyzer and a leukocyte differential counter. Data were subjected to statistical analysis (ANOVA/Tukey). The results revealed that applying VPBM prior to injury led to an increase in circulating neutrophils (granulocytes) after 1 day and a subsequent increase in monocytes after 2 and 5 days, compared to the Non-Injury + VPBM and Injured groups. Notably, an increase in erythrocytes and hemoglobin concentration was observed in the Non-Injury + VPBM group on days 1 and 2 in comparison to the Injured group. In terms of histological aspects, only the Prior VPBM + Injured group exhibited a reduction in the number of inflammatory cells after 1, 5, and 7 days, along with an increase in blood vessels at 5 days. Both the Prior VPBM + Injured and Injured + VPBM after groups displayed a decrease in myonecrosis at 1, 2, and 7 days, an increase in newly-formed and immature fibers after 5 and 7 days, and neovascularization after 1, 2, and 7 days. Regarding protein expression, there was an increase in MCP-1 after 1 and 5 days, TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β after 1, 2, and 5 days in the Injured + VPBM after group when compared to the other experimental groups. The Prior VPBM + Injured group exhibited increased MCP-1 production after 2 days, in comparison to the Non-Injury + VPBM and Control groups. Notably, on day 7, the Injured group continued to show elevated MCP-1 protein expression when compared to the VPBM groups. In conclusion, VPBM effectively modulated hematological parameters, circulating leukocytes, the protein expression of the chemokine MCP-1, and the proinflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-1β, ultimately influencing the inflammatory process. This modulation resulted in a reduction of myonecrosis, restoration of tissue architecture, increased formation of newly and immature muscle fibers, and enhanced neovascularization, with more pronounced effects when VPBM was applied prior to the muscle injury.

Abstract
COVID-19 Related Long-Term Taste Impairment (CRLTTI) is a condition that can be expressed after COVID-19 contagion, lasting for months or even years, affecting the routine and quality of life of individuals. Participants expressing CRLTTI, with a minimum of 2 months, attested by PCR-RT test were assessed for taste and smell, and underwent experimental treatments in 6 distinct groups: Photobiomodulation (PBM) in tongue dorsum and lateral (660 nm, 808 nm, association of 660 and 808 nm), Transmucosal Laser Irradiation of Blood (TLIB)-ventral surface of tongue (660 nm), B complex supplementation, and Sham laser. No intergroup statistical differences were observed at the final evaluation, despite the tendencies of better results with PBM and TLIB observed. PBM, TLIB, and B complex might be treatment options in the management of CRLTTI, despite the lack of total remission of taste and smell perception after 8 sessions (PBM and TLIB) or 30 days of B complex supplementation.

Abstract
Systemic photobiomodulation (PBM) of the blood or over blood vessels has been associated with bio-stimulating, vasodilating, and anti-inflammatory properties. This treatment modality has been used for modulating inflammatory processes, tissue repair, atherosclerosis, and systemic arterial hypertension, and is described more often in clinical studies than experimental models. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to conduct a literature review regarding the effect of systemic PBM involving the intravascular laser irradiation of blood (ILIB) or non-invasive vascular photobiomodulation (VPBM) using low-level laser (LLL) in experimental (animal) models. The PubMed/MEDLINE®, Scopus, SPIE Digital Library, and Web of Science databases were searched for articles on the use of VPBM with LLL in animal models. Nine original articles met the inclusion criteria and were critically evaluated. The variables of interest were the dosimetric laser parameters, different methods for delivering energy, and the main results. The use laser in the red spectrum was more prevalent and VPBM (non-invasive) predominated over ILIB (invasive). No standardization was found in the dosimetric parameters. However, the studies showed the positive effects of VPBM on arterial pressure and blood circulation, the positive effects of ILIB on blood composition and hematological markers, as well as positive effects of both forms of systemic PBM (ILIB and VPBM) on the tissue repair process. In conclusion, the studies evaluated in the present review showed that the use of systemic PBM with ILIB or non-invasive VPBM induced positive effects, modulating metabolic conditions and tissue repair. However, there is a need for standardization in the dosimetric parameters for the different conditions and processes evaluated using experimental models.

Abstract
Background Parkinson's disease is one of the neurodegenerative conditions that impacts 1-2% of the world's population. The only effective therapy for this condition today is to restore the biochemical function of the diseased dopamine neurons by giving them Levodopa or L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (l-DOPA). The risk of progenitor stem cells, though, is the growth of teratomas or the uncontrolled growth of cells. As a result, an alternative or additional method is needed, such as photobiomodulation therapy using a laser diode. In this research, male mice (Mus musculus), which were used as models for Parkinson's disease in an in vivo paraquat study, to determine the optimal dose of photobiomodulation therapy and a laser diode was used as a treatment. Methods The three sample groups are Group P-L- (control group, induced by 0.9% NaCl), Group P + L- (only caused by paraquat), and Group P + L+. (Treatment group, treated by paraquat and photobiomodulation therapy with a laser diode). Photobiomodulation treatment doses of 0.14 J, 0.29 J, 0.37 J, 0.76 J, 1.14 J, and 1.52 J were used in the P+L+ subgroups (6 groups). The laser diode generated a continuous wave with a wavelength of 658 nm, a beam spot of 2.10 mm, and an output power of 15.42 mW. After treatment, the histopathology results of each sample were inspected under a microscope. Result In Parkinson's disease-affected mice, paraquat has been shown to reduce the number of neurons. According to the results of the histopathological examination, photobiomodulation therapy using a laser diode (P + L+) on the HT-7 (Shenmen) may raise the quantity of neurons and the proportion of healthy cells in the mouse brain. Conclusion The effective radiated energy of the photobiomodulation therapy using laser diode treatment on the muscle musculus cell model of Parkinson's disease is 0.76 J.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aims to verify if the use of intravascular laser irradiation of blood (ILIB) influences the reduction of pain and increases the range of motion in opening and closing of the mouth in children and adolescents with temporomandibular disorders (TMD). METHODS This will be a blind, randomized, and controlled clinical trial, which will be carried out on children between 6 and 12 years of age who enter the Catholic University of Uruguay, Faculty of Health Sciences, Postgraduate School, for treatment. To be included, children must present temporomandibular disorders, based on the diagnostic criteria will be the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (RDC/TMD). Forty-five participants will be randomized to three groups: Group 1-ILIB with 2 sessions of 20 minutes for 12 weeks (n = 15); Group 2-Placebo laser application with 2 sessions of 20 minutes for 12 weeks (n = 15); Group 3-Control with no treatment (n = 15). Irradiation will be performed by continuous and direct transcutaneous application to the radial artery, by means of a bracelet that inserts the laser beam. The laser to be used is infrared, power 100 mW ± 20%, wavelength 808 nm ± 10 nm, continuous application. RDC/TMD and pain evaluated through a visual analog scale will be the outcome measures. DISCUSSION Due to the low level of evidence, new studies are needed on the effect of ILIB in children with TMD.

Abstract
Introduction: Autoimmune thyroiditis (AIT) is an autoimmune disorder that is characterized by thyroid gland dysfunction. Low-level laser therapy (LLLT), as a safe and non-invasive intervention, has gained much attention in many clinical applications including pain relief, regenerative medicine, and autoimmune. Methods: In this review, we discuss the effect of LLLT on cellular responses and its application in the treatment of AIT. Such keywords as "low-level laser therapy", "photobiomodulation" and "autoimmune thyroiditis" were used to find studies related to laser therapy in AIT in Google Scholar, PubMed and Medline databases. Results: LLLT reduced thyroid gland inflammation and inhibited immune cell trafficking. LLLT modulated inflammatory responses and improved thyroid gland regeneration. Conclusion: Investigations indicated that besides current treatment strategies, LLLT could be a promising therapeutic approach for the treatment of AIT.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a growing global public health problem. The implementation of evidence-based clinical practices only defers the development of kidney failure. Death, transplantation, or dialysis are the consequences of kidney failure, resulting in a significant burden on the health system. Hence, innovative therapeutic strategies are urgently needed due to the limitations of current interventions. Photobiomodulation (PBM), a form of non-thermal light therapy, effectively mitigates mitochondrial dysfunction, reactive oxidative stress, inflammation, and gut microbiota dysbiosis, all of which are inherent in CKD. Preliminary studies suggest the benefits of PBM in multiple diseases, including CKD. Hence, this review will provide a concise summary of the underlying action mechanisms of PBM and its potential therapeutic effects on CKD. Based on the findings, PBM may represent a novel, non-invasive and non-pharmacological therapy for CKD, although more studies are necessary before PBM can be widely recommended.

Abstract
The intravascular or transcutaneous application of photobiomodulation (PBM) over blood vessels (vascular photobiomodulation, VPBM) has been used for the treatment of inflammatory and chronic conditions with promising systemic results. This study evaluated the VPBM effects on a model of muscle regeneration after acute injury and compared the outcomes of preventive and therapeutic VPBM. Transcutaneous VPBM was administered over the rat's main tail vein. Serum levels of creatine kinase (CK), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and lactate were evaluated and muscles were processed for macroscopic and microscopic analysis. Preventive and therapeutic VPBM led to decreased inflammatory infiltrate, edema, and myonecrosis but with an increase in immature muscle fibers. CK, AST, and lactate levels were lower in the groups treated with VPBM (lowest concentrations in preventive VPBM application). Preventive and therapeutic VPBM were capable of exerting a positive effect on acute muscle injury repair, with more accentuated results when preventive VPBM was administered.

Abstract
Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is a therapeutic tool that uses the photobiochemical interaction between light and tissue. Its effectiveness is controversial due to a strong dependence on dosimetric parameters. In this work, we demonstrate that digital holographic microscopy is an effective label-free imaging technique to analyze the effects of LLLT on biological cells, and we propose the full methodology to create correct synthetic aperture phase maps for further extensive, highly accurate statistical analysis. The proposed methodology has been designed to provide a basis for many other biological experiments using quantitative phase imaging. We use SHSY-5Y and HaCaT cells irradiated with different doses of red light for the experiment. The analysis shows quantitative changes in cell dry mass density and the projected cell surface in response to different radiation doses.

Abstract
UNLABELLED In children, chronic inflammatory diseases of the pharyngeal lymphoid ring are the most common chronic nasopharyngeal diseases. Available therapies are not always effective, associated with an increase in treatment duration and possible complications and recurrences. Laser therapy (LT) techniques have long been successfully used in ENT practice, but they still need to be optimized and standardized. OBJECTIVE To analyze treatment outcomes in children with chronic inflammatory diseases of the pharyngeal lymphoid ring in out-patient settings using standard methods of LT (by localization, technique, and time of laser exposure) with different lasers. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 214 patients aged 1-15 years with chronic inflammatory diseases of the pharyngeal lymphoid ring were included in the study. The patients were divided into three main groups (1-3) and received LT using different lasers on the Lasmik device and a control group without LT. Parameters of laser radiation sources (groups) were the following: Group 1 wavelength (λ) 635 nm, pulsed mode (PM), pulse width 100 ns, pulse power (PP) 5 W, mean power (MP) 0.04 mW; Group2 λ=904 nm, PM, PP=5 W, MP=0.04 mW; Group 3 λ=635 nm, continuous mode, MP=15 mW. The outcomes were assessed by clinical improvement. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION A comparative analysis of the comprehensive treatment outcomes showed significantly better outcomes in the 1-3 groups compared to the control group. A higher efficiency of pulsed low-intensity laser radiation (LIRI) in comparison with a continuous mode, mostly red spectrum (λ=635 nm, PM, MP=5 W) was shown. This laser exposure results in faster improvement and allows performing LIRI exposure percutaneously without using light guides, which require sterilization and are quickly degrading.

Abstract
This study compares the effectiveness of two laser wavelengths for stimulating acupoints in an experimental model of acute postoperative pain. Forty-five Wistar rats were randomly assigned to receive treatment on their left hind paw, contralateral to a surgical procedure. Laser treatments were performed with Green Laser-GL (532 nm, 70 mW and 7 J/cm2 of energy), Red Laser-RL (660 nm, 100 mW and 7 J/cm2 of energy), or with Laser Off-LO. After each application, the animals were evaluated with a Von Frey analgesiometer to check for painful sensitivity on their right (with surgery) and left (without surgery) hind paws. Neuropeptides and cytokine levels in the incision site tissue of the right paw were measured by ELISA after 1, 6 and 24 hours. It was possible to observe that, in this pain model, both lasers promoted analgesia and that the GL altered the levels of TNF-α and IL-1β.

Abstract
Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is included in the Federal project «Fight against oncological diseases», which provides for equipping all specialized medical institutions in Russia with the appropriate devices until 2026. PURPOSE OF THE STUDY Publications analysis on the use of LLLT in oncology. MATERIAL AND METHODS To search for publications, databases and libraries were used: PubMed, Scopus, ResearchGate, Google Scholar, J-STAGE, eLibrary.ru for the period 2018-2021. For analysis, publications were selected that are of interest from the point of view of improving the methodology of LLLT, the prospects for the development of this method in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of patients. A total of 223 publications were found, including 39 reviews and meta-analyses, mostly in English (165) and Portuguese (41). RESULTS AND DISCUSSION The inclusion of LLLT in the ISOO/MASCC/ASCO recommendations for the treatment of complications such as mucositis, salivary gland hypofunction and xerostomia caused by non-surgical methods of treating cancer patients should be considered as a promising trend. An extremely low level of quality of LLLT techniques was noted, most often the replacement with meaningless «doses», «fluences» instead of the necessary parameters: wavelength, operating mode, power, frequency, exposure, etc. The use of only local illumination instead of systemic methods of LLLT does not allow obtaining the best results of treatment and prevention. Eliminating the shortcomings of treatment protocols with a focus on Russian experience, when laser blood illumination (intravenously or externally) and laser acupuncture are also necessarily carried out with local illumination of the lesion, will bring the effectiveness of LLLT to a qualitatively new, higher level.

Abstract
The continuous rise in cancer incidence places a massive burden on the health sector to increase efforts in the fight against cancer. As a holistic complementary medicine modality, homeopathy has the potential to assist in the supportive and palliative treatment of cancer patients. Recent empirical studies demonstrate the presence of silica and original source nanoparticles in ultra-high dilutions of several homeopathic medicines. Recent studies have also demonstrated the efficacy of phototherapy in inducing the ablation of cancer cells through laser-activated nanoparticle photosensitizers. A new hypothetical research model is presented herein, in an attempt to investigate and compare the phototherapeutic effects of homeopathic source nanoparticles with photosensitizing nanoparticle agents that have previously been tested.

Abstract
Our study aimed to study the efficacy of ILIB on periodontal parameters and glycemic control in patients with periodontitis and type II diabetes. Twenty-one patients in a randomized clinical trial were divided into 2 groups: control group (CG), conventional periodontal therapy, and test group (TG), conventional periodontal treatment associated with 10 laser applications by the ILIB-Modified (ILIB-M) technique. Fasting blood glucose levels and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), visible plaque index (VPI), gingival bleeding index (GBI), and periodontal clinical parameters were evaluated at baseline and after 4 months (T4). Regarding periodontal parameters, the intragroup analysis showed a statistically significant reduction (p < 0.05) between baseline and T4, for the VPI, GBI, BOP, PD, and CAL indexes. However, in the intergroup analysis, no statistically significant improvements (p > 0.05) were observed between the TG and CG for the VPI, GBI, BOP, PD, and CAL indexes. Regarding HbA1C and fasting blood glucose values, no statistically significant improvements were observed in intergroup and intragroup analyses (p > 0.05). The Modified ILIB did not improve the periodontal clinical parameters and glycemic control in patients with type II diabetes.

Abstract
Introduction: Although intravascular laser irradiation of blood (ILIB) is deemed an innocuous and useful technique for laser therapy, particularly when systemic effects are required, no study, to our knowledge, has been conducted on the effectiveness and innocuousness of ILIB in treating acute kidney injury (AKI). Objective: This study aimed to assess the feasibility and outcomes of ILIB in the management of patients with AKI and comparing them with the Sham-laser group. Materials and Methods: Twenty-six patients with intra-renal AKI (24-95 years old) at Tajrish Hospitals were evaluated for enrollment eligibility in this clinical trial study. This study was conducted at the nephrology department of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Science, Tehran, Iran, between 2018 and 2019. Based on the treatment method, the patients' assignment to two groups (ILIB or Sham-laser) was randomly done. Demographic characteristics, need for dialysis, hemoglobin and serum biochemistry changes, serum and urine neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) changes, laser complications, and the hospitalization period were recorded. Results: In terms of the baseline characteristics and biochemistry serum level, no differences were seen between the two groups. All post-treatment parameters, except the hemoglobin value, significantly improved in both groups. Urine NGAL and serum NGAL show declines from the baseline in both groups; however, the reduction slope of these parameters occurred faster in the laser group in a statistically significant manner. Conclusion: A decline in NGAL levels in the laser group during the treatment may suggest that the ILIB can help patients with AKI recover better.

Abstract
Adjuvants are essential for ensuring the efficacy of modern vaccines. Considering frequent local and systemic adverse reactions, research into the development of safer and more effective adjuvants is being actively conducted. In recent years, the novel concept of laser vaccine adjuvants, which use the physical energy of light, has been developed. For long, light has been known to affect the physiological functions in living organisms. Since the development of lasers as stable light sources, laser adjuvants have evolved explosively in multiple ways over recent decades. Future laser adjuvants would have the potential not only to enhance the efficacy of conventional vaccine preparations but also to salvage candidate vaccines abandoned during development because of insufficient immunogenicity or owing to their inability to be combined with conventional adjuvants. Furthermore, the safety and efficacy of non-invasive laser adjuvants make them advantageous for vaccine dose sparing, which would be favorable for the timely and equitable global distribution of vaccines. In this review, we first describe the basics of light-tissue interactions, and then summarize the classification of lasers, the history of laser adjuvants, and the mechanisms by which different lasers elicit an immune response.

Abstract
Introduction: Herpesvirus infection has a variety of clinical forms and is extremely widespread in the world while existing treatment methods are not always quite effective. The search for new treatment modalities is a relevant problem and numerous studies show the therapeutic effect of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) on different herpesvirus types. Methods: The mechanisms of laser light action and the impact of LLLT on the pathological pathways of herpes infections are described. A narrative review of the relevant papers is conducted. Results: The reviewed studies confirm that LLLT is a potential prospective treatment method for patients infected with the herpesvirus. However, it is necessary to improve the methodology and optimize the combination of laser action with antiviral medications. Conclusion: The review shows that it is most effective to combine laser impact on skin lesions with the application of topical antiviral gels or creams, additionally using a combined procedure of laser ultraviolet blood illumination (LUVBI, 365-405 nm) + intravenous laser blood irradiation (ILBI, 525 nm).

Abstract
Objective: The objective of this narrative review was to investigate the history of light therapy in hospital settings, with reference to physiotherapy and particularly in an Australian context.Types of articles and search method:a review of available literature was conducted on PubMed, Medline and Google Scholar using keywords light therapy, photobiomodulation, physiotherapy, low-level laser, heliotherapy. Physiotherapy textbooks from Sydney University Library were searched. Historical records were accessed from the San Hospital library. Interviews were conducted with the San Hospital Chief Librarian and a retired former Head Physiotherapist from Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.Summary: Historically, light treatment has been used in both medical and physiotherapy practice. From its roots in ancient Egypt, India, and Greece, through to medieval times, the modern renaissance in 'light as therapy ' was begun by Florence Nightingale who, in the 1850s, advocated the use of clean air and an abundance of sunlight to restore health. Modern light therapy (phototherapy) had a marked uptake in use in medicine in Scandinavia, America, and Australia from 1903, following the pioneering work of Niels Finsen in the late 19th century, which culminated in Dr Finsen receiving the Nobel Prize for Medicine for the treatment of tuberculosis scarring with ultraviolet (UV) light, and treatment of smallpox scarring with red light. Treatment with light, especially UVB light, has been widely applied by physiotherapists in hospitals for dermatological conditions since the 1950s, particularly in Australia, Scandinavia, USA, England and Canada. In parallel, light treatment in hospitals for hyperbilirubinemia was used for neonatal jaundice. Since the 1980s light was also used in the medical specialties of ophthalmology, dermatology, and cardiology. In more recent years in physiotherapy, light was mostly used as an adjunct to the management of orthopedic/rheumatological conditions. Since the 1990s, there has been global use of light, in the form of photobiomodulation for the management of lymphedema, including in supportive cancer care. Photobiomodulation in the form of low-level laser has been used by physiotherapists and pain doctors since the 1990s in the management of chronic pain. The use of light as therapy is exemplified by its use in the San Hospital in Sydney, where light therapy was introduced in 1903 (after Dr. John Harvey Kellogg visited Niels Finsen in Denmark) and is practiced by nurses, physiotherapists and doctors until the present day. The use of light has expanded into new and exciting practices including supportive cancer care, and treatment of depression, oral mucositis, retinopathy of prematurity, and cardiac surgery complications. Light is also being used in the treatment of neurological diseases, such as Parkinson's disease, traumatic brain injury, and multiple sclerosis. The innovative uses of light in physiotherapy treatment would not be possible without the previous experience of successful application of light treatment.Conclusion: Light therapy has had a long tradition in medicine and physiotherapy. Although it has fallen somewhat out of favour over the past decades, there has been a renewed interest using modern techniques in recent times. There has been continuous use of light as a therapy in hospitals in Australia, most particularly the San Hospital in Sydney where it has been in use for almost 120 years.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Primary burning mouth syndrome (BMS) is a chronic clinical condition of idiopathic mainly characterized by pain and a burning sensation in the oral cavity. The application of laser at low intensity therapy is a treatment option. This systematic review evaluated the efficacy of laser therapy in treating symptoms of burning mouth syndrome. MATERIAL AND METHODS The study was formulated according to the PRISMA and Cochrane guidelines. Seven databases were used as primary sources of research. Only randomized controlled clinical trials were included. The efficacy of the therapy was estimated comparing the values of the visual and numerical scales of pain before and after laser treatment, through qualitative analysis. RESULTS The search resulted in 348 records and only eight filled the eligibility criteria and were included. All studies evaluated pain and / or a burning sensation considering a time interval of two to ten weeks. The total sample consisted of 314 patients submitted to treatment: 123 from the control group, who participated with laser off or with the tip blocked, and 191 from the intervention group, treated with low-level laser therapy. The female gender stood out and the average age of the participants was 60.89 years. The main symptoms reported were pain and a burning sensation in the oral mucosa and tongue. The parameters adopted by the authors for laser treatment were diverse and the variables were not fully described in the published studies. Visual analog and numerical scales were used to assess symptoms and only three studies showed statistical significance. CONCLUSIONS It is suggested that laser therapy may be an effective alternative in the treatment of BMS. New randomized clinical trials should consider well-established protocols to better understand the efficacy of laser therapy without confounding the effects.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of the article is to justify the application of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) to prevent the development of endothelial dysfunction in COVID-19 patients. The results of treating and rehabilitating patients with COVID-19 and prevention of the disease using low-level laser therapy (LLLT) are evaluated. METHODS A literature review is conducted on mechanisms of vascular homeostasis regulation, biomodulating effect of laser light, and LLLT methods for preventing endothelial dysfunction. A total of 106 patients were treated in two COVID-19 healthcare centers in Russia. 22 patients with SARS (+) pneumonia at the stage of resolving the pathological lesion were admitted to rehabilitation using pulsed IR laser. 14 patients with acute forms of COVID-19 were treated using LASMIK device: wavelength 904 nm, pulsed mode, externally and ILBI-525 (intravenous laser blood illumination) + LUVBI (ultraviolet laser blood illumination). 70 persons underwent preventive courses of noninvasive LLLT. RESULTS It was shown that LLLT is effective in preventing the development of endothelial dysfunction. Clinical experience demonstrated good tolerability of the treatment, improvement in sputum discharge, and an improvement in overall health. The severity of general hypoxia decreased by the 5th procedure. The procedures for prevention of the disease were well tolerated; there were no cases of COVID-19. CONCLUSION Low-level laser therapy is a justified treatment method that promotes lung tissue regeneration and mitigates the consequences of the disease. The obtained results confirm that LLLT can be used for the effective prevention and treatment of COVID-19 patients.

Abstract
LASMIK laser biorevitalization is a well-known technology developed in Russia that is based on laser phoresis as a method to enhance percutaneous penetration of substances. The article describes the mechanisms that act here and factors that determine the optimal parameters of the technique. The research conducted for 2 years allowed to optimize the parameters of the laser phoresis technique, testing the LASMIK laser biorevitalization technology. Our findings indicate the stimulation of facial skin blood microcirculation and, consequently, an increase in the oxygen tension in the skin, oxygenation of the facial skin blood, and an increase in the trophic support to tissues. The skin becomes 5-15 years younger, a noticeable reduction of facial wrinkles is demonstrated. The studies enabled to optimize the parameters of gels and laser exposure for the maximum efficiency of procedures that are in great demand both by cosmetologists and customers, due to non-invasiveness, simplicity and good results.

Abstract
Introduction: Laser acupuncture is one of the low-level laser therapy (LLLT) methods, replacing the traditional technique of Chinese needle acupuncture. This article describes the main principles and parameters of laser acupuncture based on the analysis of 35 years of successful experience in applying the method in Russia. Methods: The search of the literature on laser acupuncture was made in the Russian Medical Library and the Russian State Library (1498 publications in Russian), and PubMed/Medline (117 publications in English). 96 studies on laser acupuncture techniques were selected and a narrative review was conducted. Results: The optimal parameters of the technique were worked out by Russian specialists in the 1970s, and are perfectly confirmed by the wide practice of clinical application. The literature review showed that the most optimal parameters of laser acupuncture are wavelength - 635 nm (red spectrum), power - no more than 2-3 mW, the diameter of special nozzle attachment - not more than 1-1.5 mm, and exposure - 20-40 s (for corporal points) or 5-10 s (for auricular points). The impact on acupuncture points (APs) is carried out consistently in accordance with the recipe (protocol), with no more than 10-12 daily procedures. Conclusion: Laser acupuncture is a very effective and reproducible technique to treat patients with different diseases. Any specialist can apply this method because of its simplicity, but using the most effective parameters.

Abstract
Background: Laser acupuncture is a relatively young modality in the field of acupuncture, used successfully for the treatment of various conditions since the early 1970s. It has, despite its ∼50 years of existence, already a comprehensive history behind it. This review deals with facts of this history and summarizes the most-important milestones. Materials and Methods: Scientific articles from the PubMed, Google Scholar, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases served as research documents. In addition, the research on laser acupuncture history included material published in scientific books. Results: A total of 38 listed articles were identified, 7 of which were considered relevant. In addition to a generally recognized definition of laser acupuncture, the beginnings of laser acupuncture and the first clinical applications worldwide, this review also shows the most-important milestones in the development of this discipline. The latter are, of course, the development of laser acupuncture systems, the first clinical studies, the implementation of multichannel laser acupuncture devices with laser-needle technology, and, ultimately, the combination of laser acupuncture with methods from research on photobiomodulation. Conclusions: Although considerable progress has been made in evaluating this innovative method of laser acupuncture, further research is needed in the coming years and decades.

Abstract
Recurrent implantation failure (RIF) remains a clinical dilemma. Helium-Neon (He-Ne) laser irradiation has recently become more popular under certain clinical conditions. Given the unique therapeutic effects, we were interested in determining whether pretreatment with He-Ne laser irradiation prior to frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) would improve the microcirculation and cause the release of growth factors and cytokines, thus improving endometrial receptivity and the clinical pregnancy rates. Patients chose for themselves whether to proceed with (n = 29) or without (n = 31) pretreatment with He-Ne laser irradiation prior to FET. The clinical pregnancy rate (37.9%) and implantation rate (20.3%) were higher in the laser-treatment group than in the control group (35.5% and 15.9%, respectively, p = .844 and .518, respectively). The live birth rate was higher in the laser-treatment group (27.6% vs. 25.8%, respectively, p = .876) and the miscarriage rate was lower in the laser-treatment group (18.2% and 27.3%, respectively, p = .611). No side effects or complications from laser irradiation were encountered in patients who received the laser treatment. We concluded that pretreatment with He-Ne laser prior to FET may be an alternative choice for RIF-affected women; however, additional well-designed prospective studies are necessary to determine the precise clinical value of this treatment.

Abstract
To perform an integrative review of the literature on the effectiveness of intravascular laser irradiation of blood (ILIB) as an adjunct therapy in the treatment of chronic systemic diseases. This is an integrative literature review that included non-randomized and randomized controlled clinical trials that specifically evaluated the therapeutic effect of ILIB on chronic systemic diseases, without restriction of time, and written in English. The Medical Publications (PubMed)/MEDLINE database was used. MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) was used to select search descriptors with the Boolean operators "AND/OR." After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 13 articles were selected. Coronary diseases were the most prevalent, followed by type 2 diabetes mellitus, with the coronary artery being the most widely used access route for ILIB application. Despite the varied parameters and protocols for using this kind of therapy, all studies have shown satisfactory results in the patients' clinical condition. ILIB proved to be effective in all organic systems, showing some positive result. However, studies on the effect of this therapy on various diseases are still scarce in the literature, and there is a need for more well-designed clinical trials to better understand the role of ILIB in various systemic diseases.

Abstract
Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the effect of laser diode as an alternative treatment on liver dysfunction (in vivo study) that is caused by carbofuran using male mice (Mus musculus) strain Balb/C. Materials and Methods: The samples were divided into three groups, namely, Group C–L– (control group, no treatment), Group C+L– (only treated by carbofuran treatment), and Group C+L+ (treatment group, treated by carbofuran and laser-puncture) with five replications each. After being treated, each liver slice of samples was observed using microscope to get the histology result and then scored. Results: Carbofuran contamination can lead to inflammation of cells and necrosis. The histology results and the scoring test showed that the liver cells repair with the energy dose of laser diode at 0.5 and 1.0 Joule. Conclusion: The optimum energy dose in this study was 1.0 Joule which had the closest score of inflammatory cells and necrosis to normal liver cells.

Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcome of surgical decompression and rehabilitation therapy in dogs with thoracolumbar intervertebral disk herniation (IVDH). Materials and Methods: After surgery, physiotherapeutic rehabilitation was performed by a combination of electrotherapy, infrared therapy, training for standing, deep tendon reflex, and aquatic treadmill exercise. A total of 186 dogs were selected from the hospital records and included in two groups: the rehabilitated group (RG, n = 96) and non-rehabilitated group (NRG, n = 90). Dogs in each group were subdivided into three groups based on a pre-operative clinical severity grading system and those in grades 2–4 were included in this study. Post-operative neurologic functions, unassisted standing, walking, and the success rate of both groups were evaluated and compared Results: Overall, 86.46% (83/96) of dogs had a successful neurologic outcome in the RG group, which was significantly (p < 0.01) higher than the NRG group 52.22% (47/90). Interestingly, the success rate differed when the preoperative grading system was considered. The success rates of grades 2, 3, and 4 were 97.14% (34/35), 97.33% (42/45), and 43.75% (7/16), respectively, in the rehabilitated groups, whereas in the non-rehabilitated groups, success rates were 82.35% (28/34), 51.85% (14/27), and 17.24% (5/29), respectively. The differences in success rates among the groups according to grading were 14.79%, 41.48%, and 26.51%, respectively, indicating that the proposed rehabilitation therapy is remarkably advantageous for increasing the success rate. Conclusion: Rehabilitation therapy after surgical decompression of thoracolumbar IVDH improves neurologic functions and increases the success rate, especially when the preoperative pathological condition is severe.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The article describes the experience of clinical application of low level laser therapy in pediatric oncology for the prevention and treatment of chemotherapy complications such as oral mucositis. BACKGROUND For this purpose, for the first time in the world non-invasive laser blood illumination is used on the sinocarotid zone (on the projection of the common carotid artery symmetrically) and popliteal fossa in order to stimulate the phagocytic activity of leukocytes. METHODS 25 children with different oncological diseases were given non-invasive laser blood illumination treatment (904 nm, pulse mode, 100 ns, 50-150 Hz, 5-7 W, 4 cm2, 1-2 minutes daily per each procedure) 1-3 days before the beginning of chemotherapy. For the objectification of the results of treatment, the phagocytic activity of leukocytes was evaluated. RESULTS None of the children who underwent low level laser therapy course had any complications and no cases of oral mucositis developed. CONCLUSIONS Clinical experience has shown high efficacy and safety of low level laser therapy aimed at preventing the development of complications of chemotherapy, primarily oral mucositis, and stimulating the phagocytic activity of leukocytes.

Abstract
The management of pain - despite many anaesthetic drugs - remains to be an urgent task. If the goal is to achieve permanent pain relief - and not to temporarily mask the pain (masking pathology) - then this goal can only be achieved by treating pain with physiotherapeutic methods, the most universal and effective of which, is low level laser therapy (LLLT). The treatment methods vary fundamentally in the case of neuropathic (nonspecific, primary) pain, which includes pain with the localization of the trigger points (TP) and nociceptive (specific, secondary), which includes all types of pain resulting from trauma, inflammation, etc. When treating patients with fibromyalgia (FM), a comprehensive approach is required, using different methods of laser therapy and guided by well-known rules. These rules include setting all the correct parameters of the laser exposure (wavelength, operating mode, power, exposure, etc), limiting exposure and power to optimal values and limiting the total time of the procedure and the number of procedures per course.

Abstract
Lasers devices are widely used in various medical fields (eg, surgery, dermatology, dentistry, rehabilitative medicine, etc.) for different applications, ranging from surgical ablation of tissues to biostimulation and pain relief. Laser is an electromagnetic radiation, which effects on biological tissues strongly depends on a number of physical parameters. Laser wavelength, energy output, irradiation time and modality, temperature and tissue penetration properties have to be set up according to the clinical target tissue and the desired effect. A less than optimal operational settings, in fact, could result in a null or even lethal effect. According to the first law of photobiology, light absorption requires the presence of a specific photoacceptor that after excitation could induce the activation of downstream signaling pathways. Low-level lasers operating in the red/near infrared portion of the light spectra are generally used for biostimulation purposes, a particular therapeutic application based on the radiant energy ability to induce nonthermal responses in living cells. Biostimulation process generally promotes cell survival and proliferation. Emerging evidences support a low-level laser stimulation mediated increase in "good" reactive oxygen species, able to activate redox sensitive signal transduction pathways such as Nrf-2, NF-kB, ERK which act as key redox checkpoints.

Abstract
This review brings together observations on the stress-induced regulation of resilience mechanisms in body tissues. It is argued that the stresses that induce tissue resilience in mammals arise from everyday sources: sunlight, food, lack of food, hypoxia and physical stresses. At low levels, these stresses induce an organised protective response in probably all tissues; and, at some higher level, cause tissue destruction. This pattern of response to stress is well known to toxicologists, who have termed it hormesis. The phenotypes of resilience are diverse and reports of stress-induced resilience are to be found in journals of neuroscience, sports medicine, cancer, healthy ageing, dementia, parkinsonism, ophthalmology and more. This diversity makes the proposing of a general concept of induced resilience a significant task, which this review attempts. We suggest that a system of stress-induced tissue resilience has evolved to enhance the survival of animals. By analogy with acquired immunity, we term this system 'acquired resilience'. Evidence is reviewed that acquired resilience, like acquired immunity, fades with age. This fading is, we suggest, a major component of ageing. Understanding of acquired resilience may, we argue, open pathways for the maintenance of good health in the later decades of human life.

Abstract
We aim to evaluate the action of transcutaneous laser in the initial wound healing process. The use of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) has proven to be effective on inflammatory modulation and wound healing. The trial was performed on five groups of rats, through a dorsal incision. All groups received treatment on auricular artery. Groups 1 and 3 were treated with transcutaneous LLLT over a period of 15 min. Groups 2 and 4 received one and two inactive laser applications (placebo), respectively. Group 5 was the control one. Blood samples were collected 2 h after the last application of LLLT so that cytokine levels could be measured by ELISA. Tissue fragments were harvested for morphometric, histomorphometric, and RT-qPCR analyses. The morphometric analysis revealed a greater decrease in the wounded area in G1 when compared with G2, whereas in G3, the improvement in the area was greater when compared with G4. Finally, the histomorphometric analysis showed that G1 was the group closer to G5 in terms of collagen fiber count. G2 and G4 had higher amounts of collagen fibers than G5 while G3 had a lower quantity. The use of the transcutaneous LLLT in the current study influenced the wound healing process.

Abstract
The question of lasers' exclusivity, as well as the degree of influence of special properties of low-intensity laser illumination (LILI), such as coherence, polarity and monochromaticity, on the effectiveness of low level laser therapy (LLLT) continues to cause arguments. The study analyzes publications from 1973 to 2016, in which laser and conventional light sources are compared, and the following conclusions are drawn. First, there are a lot of publications with incorrect comparison or unfounded statements. Secondly, other sources of light are often meant by LILI without any justification. Thirdly, all studies, in which the comparison is carried out correctly and close parameters of the impact and the model are used, have a firm conclusion that laser light is much more effective. Fourthly, it is uniquely identified that the most important parameter that determines the efficiency of lasers is monochromaticity, i.e., a much narrower spectral width than for all other light sources. Only laser light sources can be used for LLLT!
