Amiri S. Sleep Duration, Sleep Quality, and Insomnia in Association With Self-Rated Health: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. SLEEP MEDICINE RESEARCH 2023; 14:66-79. Abstract
Background and Objective This study undertook a systematic review and meta-analysis of the relationship between sleep duration, sleep quality, and insomnia in association with self-rated health.Methods Studies that had examined the relationship between sleep duration, sleep quality, and insomnia with self-rated health were eligible. PubMed and Scopus were the two main databases for searching for studies related to this meta-analysis. The Google Scholar database as a source of gray literature was also searched by hand. This search was from the beginning of the formation of databases until the end of January 2022, and the search language was limited to articles published in English. The Effective Public Health Practice Project Quality Assessment Tool was used to assess the quality of studies. For this meta-analysis, odds ratio and 95% confidence interval were extracted or calculated. The pool of studies was processed by the random effects method.Results Twenty-six studies were included in this meta-analysis. Sleep duration of ≤ 8 hours per day (h/d) (odds ratio = 1.58 and 95% confidence interval = [1.41–1.77]) and sleep duration of > 8 h/d (odds ratio = 1.32 and 95% confidence interval = [1.17–1.50]) are associated with poor self-rated health. Poor sleep quality and insomnia are associated with poor self-rated health. Conclusions Sleep problems have a negative effect on self-rated health, and therefore, effective interventions can help improve sleep.

Abstract
PURPOSE To examine the relationship between the presence and severity of retinopathy in women with diabetes mellitus and sleep quality assessed using Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). METHODS Among 90 female patients with type 2 diabetes, 30 patients without retinopathy were classified into Group 1, 30 patients with nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy as Group 2, and 30 patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy as Group 3. People who had a known sleep problem, had a history of using medication other than sleeping pills that would affect sleep, had lower or upper respiratory tract disease, had history of previous surgery, or were unable to answer the survey questions appropriately were excluded from the study. RESULTS The mean age was 52.6 ± 6.18 years in Group 1, 55.15 ± 8.15 years in Group 2, and 60.35 ± 5.93 years in Group 3. While no statistical difference was observed between Groups 1 and 2 (P = 0.27), a statistical difference was observed between both Groups 1 and 3 (P = 0.01) and Groups 2 and 3 (P = 0.02). PSQI scores were found to be 5.10 ± 1.07 in Group 1, 7.30 ± 2.34 in Group 2, and 6.70 ± 1.21 in Group 3. In terms of these scores, there was a statistical difference between Group 1 and both Group 2 (P = 0.01) and Group 3 (P = 0.01), while no difference was observed between Groups 2 and 3 (P = 0.31). CONCLUSION Although the presence of retinopathy significantly impairs sleep quality in diabeticwomen, no relationship was found between the severity of retinopathy and impaired sleep quality.

Abstract
Background Literature shows that home confinement during coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has significantly affected sleep. However, such information regarding subjects having Parkinson's disease (PD) is unavailable. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted using a questionnaire, developed and validated by experts. PD subjects from nine centers across India were included. Questionnaire assessed presence as well as change in sleep-related parameters and PD symptoms during home confinement. Restless legs syndrome (RLS) and REM sleep behavior disorder (REMBD) was diagnosed using validated questionnaire. Additionally, changes in physical activity, adoption of new hobbies during home confinement and perceived quality of life were assessed. Results Of 832 subjects, 35.4% reported sleep disturbances. New-onset/worsening of sleep disturbances (NOWS) was reported by 23.9% subjects. Among those with sleep disturbances (n = 295), insomnia symptoms worsened in half (51.5%) and nearly one-fourth reported worsening of RLS (24.7%) and REMBD (22.7%) each. NOWS was common in subjects lacking adequate family support during home confinement (P = 0.03); home confinement > 60 days (P = 0.05) and duration of PD > 7 years (P = 0.008). Contrarily, physical activity >1 h/day and engagement in new hobbies during home confinement were associated with better sleep. NOWS was associated with worsening of motor as well as non-motor symptoms of PD (P < 0.001) and poorer life quality (P < 0.001). Conclusion Home confinement during COVID-19 pandemic was significantly associated with NOWS among PD subjects. NOWS was associated with global worsening of PD symptoms and poorer life quality. Physical activity >1 h/day and adoption of new hobbies during home confinement were associated with better sleep.

Abstract
The primary objective was to study pressure ulcer (PU) category II-IV (including suspected deep tissue injury and unstageable PUs) cumulative incidence and PU incidence density, in a 30day observation period, associated with the use of the CuroCell S.A.M. PRO powered reactive air support surface in nursing home residents at risk for PU development. Secondary objectives were to study (a) PU category I cumulative incidence and PU incidence density and (b) user (caregivers and residents) experiences and perceptions of comfort associated with the use of the support surface under study. A multicentre cohort study was set up in 37 care units of 12 Belgian nursing homes. The sample consisted of 191 residents at risk of PU development (Braden score ≤ 17). The cumulative PU incidence was 4.7% (n = 9). The PU incidence density was 1.7/1000 observation days (9 PU/5370 days). The experience and perceptions of comfort analysis revealed that the CuroCell S.A.M. PRO powered reactive air support surface was comfortable for daily use. The mode of action and the quietness of the pump function had a positive impact on sleep quality. Patient comfort and sleep quality are essential criteria in the selection of a support surface.

Abstract
Background The increase in the elderly population is causing changes and challenges that demand a comprehensive public health response. A specific characteristic of the elderly is their frailty. Today’s problems with identifying levels of frailty are being resolved by numerous tools in the form of frailty assessment scales. This systematic review establishes which frailty assessment scales for the elderly are being used and what their applicability in primary care is like in Slovenia and around the world. Methods Documents published after 2010 were searched for in the PubMed database using keywords and other specific criteria. Results A total of 177 search hits were obtained based on various search strings. The final analysis included 28 articles, of which three were systematic literature reviews. These three covered quantitative studies, mainly consisting of observational cross-sectional surveys or cohort studies. Three other studies featured non-systematic literature reviews. Quantitative studies (mainly cross-sectional surveys or cohort studies) prevailed among the remaining 22 articles. One study had a qualitative design (Delphi method). The main outcome measures observed by all studies were frailty assessment scales for the elderly, the majority of which were evaluated on a sample of the elderly. Conclusions None of the assessment scales examined are used as the gold standard for primary care. A variety of tools are being used in clinical practice to assess frailty in elderly patients, highlighting the need for standardization and guidelines. This requires evaluating the current assessment scales in terms of validity and reliability, and suitably improving them.
