Development of nursing management competencies: guidelines for continuous education services

The effect of Problem-Based Learning on Care Management skills: A quasi-experimental study

OBJECTIVE

to assess the preliminary effect of Problem-Based Learning on Care Management skills.

METHOD

a quasi-experimental pre- and post-test conducted with students attending the Bachelor's Degree in Nursing offered by an educational institution. The sample was comprised by 29 (Experimental Group) and 74 (Control Group) students. The Experimental Group solved four scenarios under the Problem-Based Learning method with the 7 steps proposed by McMaster University, in a Care Management program in distance mode. The self-reporting instrument assessed the pre- and post-test Care Management skills in both groups. Mean values were obtained and descriptive and inferential statistics were performed (Student's t, paired t, linear regression).

RESULTS

the Experimental Group obtained higher scores in analytical, action-related and global skills than the Control Group (p<0.05). No differences were recorded in interpersonal skills or in use of the information. The Control presented no significant differences before and after usual teaching, whereas differences were in fact reported in the Experimental Group (p<0.05).

CONCLUSION

despite the fact that there is little evidence on the development of Nursing Care Management skills, the current study shows that Problem-Based Learning is an effective and significant method in remote education.

Validação do modelo lógico de implementação da Política de Educação Permanente em Saúde na Atenção Primária

Resumo O objetivo foi descrever o processo de validação do modelo lógico de implementação da Política de Educação Permanente em Saúde na Atenção Primária no município de Vitória, Espírito Santo. Estudo de avaliabilidade, com utilização de técnicas quantiqualitativas. Usou-se a técnica de Delfos com 15 especialistas (municipais e estaduais), no período de janeiro a junho de 2019. Os participantes classificaram os componentes estruturais, atividades e produtos necessários para implementação da Política e seus respectivos resultados e impactos. Houve consenso sobre os itens que alcançaram mais de 80% de concordância, confirmados pela análise da mediana e do intervalo interquartil. Os resultados foram organizados segundo os componentes técnicos. Os recursos financeiros e humanos foram considerados imprescindíveis. No que tange aos processos, os itens julgados relevantes para implementação da Política foram: construção coletiva das ações de Educação Permanente em Saúde e elaboração de documento que oriente as ações no município e instrumentos de avaliação. Os itens referentes aos resultados e impacto foram considerados relevantes, exceto aqueles relacionados à organização e à estruturação da Política em níveis estadual e regional. O modelo lógico validado configurou-se como uma contribuição para a gestão da Política de Educação Permanente em Saúde em Vitória.

The meaning of a "good nurse" in pediatric care: a concept analysis

OBJECTIVE

to analyze the attributes, antecedents and consequences of the concept a "good nurse" in the context of Pediatrics.

METHOD

concept analysis study based on Rodgers' evolutionary method. Theoretical stage consisted of searching for articles in the CINAHL, Embase and Pubmed databases and a practical stage of semi-structured interviews with pediatric nurses. The final analysis unified the two stages by categories of antecedents, attributes and consequences of the concept.

RESULTS

20 articles and 10 interviews were analyzed revealing as antecedents aspects related to education, scientific development and ethical-moral skills and values. Responsibility, compassion, honesty and advocacy stand out as attributes of the "good nurse." The consequences describe implications for children and families, as well as for professionals.

FINAL CONSIDERATION

the analysis of the concept of the "good nurse" allowed us to clarify fundamental aspects for the execution of good practices, establishing parameters for investment in professional development programs.

VALIDATION OF THE COMPETENCE PROFILE PROPOSAL FOR THE TRAINING OF NURSES

ABSTRACT Objective: to estimate the validity of the competence profile content developed for the training of the generalist nurse in the health and administrative and managerial attention areas. Method: descriptive study, with quantitative approach. The data collection and validation occurred through the Delphi technique, in a virtual way, with questionnaire sent by e-mail, between April and May 2016, with the participation of 28 professional judges and 26 nursing specialists judges from all regions of the country. For the calculation of the degree of agreement among the answers of the experts, signed in at least 70% for the Content Validity Index, and the binomial test for dichotomous analysis of the proportion of the answers of the specialists. Results: considering the 14 items of the care area profile, a content degree of 93% by professional area and 97% by education area was obtained. The 18 items of the administrative and management profile were approved with a degree of agreement of 95% by the professional area and 99% by the education area. Conclusion: the competence profile validated in content may help undergraduate nursing courses in the country and is a safe educational tool, aiming at the implementation of the Course Pedagogical Projects.

Competencies for educational actions of Family Health Strategy nurses

ABSTRACT Objective: To create competencies for the educational actions of nurses in the care and management work processes at the Family Health Strategy. Method: This is an exploratory, descriptive research, with a qualitative approach, on nurses of the Family Health Strategy (FHS) from a municipality in the Greater São Paulo. It was performed through semi-structured interviews and workshops. Results: There is a set of specific competencies for the educational actions of the nurse in care work, geared towards meeting the health needs of users/community; and for educational actions in management work, focused on work organization of the health team, indicating the importance of this work to FHS. Final considerations: Creating competencies proved to be significant to reflect on the educational actions of the FHS nurses and can be used as a strategy in permanent education processes.

Permanent professional education in healthcare services

Abstract Objective: To analyze the literature on permanent education, identifying the conceptual evolution and its application in health services in Brazil. Method: An integrative review of the literature was performed. A total of 54 studies written in English, Portuguese and Spanish, published from January 1970 to May 2016 from the databases of the Virtual Health Library, were included. Results: Conceptual problematization was highlighted as a contribution to educational actions, indicating a conceptual development of permanent education in Brazil. However, permanent education actions sometimes occur independently from the work process. There are difficulties in understanding and application, with repercussions for health services, revealing that professionals' and managers' commitment is a challenge. Implications for practice: Continuing education is a field that lacks investments for the transformation of reality in the health service routine in Brazil.

MAPPING COMPETENCIES: IDENTIFYING GAPS IN MANAGERIAL NURSING TRAINING

ABSTRACT Objective: mapping necessary competencies in managerial nursing training. Method: a cross-sectional study conducted between March and June 2013 with 258 students from three Higher Education Institutions of a municipality in the South of Brazil. Results: mapping made it possible to identify necessary competencies for managerial nursing training, including those acquired and gaps. The relative majority of the students considered having the right attitude to act as a nurse in the managerial dimension; however, significant gaps during their training were identified in managerial competencies of supervision, auditing and change processes. Conclusion: this mapping provides subsidies for pedagogical planning, seeking to promote the acquisition of managerial competencies during undergraduate course training.

Urinary retention: implications of low-fidelity simulation training on the self-confidence of nurses

METHOD

This was a quasi-experimental study carried out among nurses stationed in municipal care units in the interior of São Paulo State. Data were collected during the course of a pedagogical workshop that used low-fidelity simulation training.

RESULTS

The study included 42 nurses, mostly female with over 15 years of experience. After low-fidelity simulation training, nurses showed a significant increase (p<0.05) in confidence related to nursing care in urinary retention. The lowest self-attributed scores during the activity were related to the objective assessment of urinary retention.

CONCLUSION

Low-fidelity simulated training is an effective resource for the development of nurses with respect to nursing care in urinary retention.

OBJETIVO

Avaliar o nível de autoconfiança de enfermeiros na assistência de enfermagem na retenção urinária antes e após atividade simulada de baixa fidelidade.

MÉTODO

Estudo quase-experimental realizado junto aos enfermeiros lotados nas unidades de atendimento de município do interior do estado de São Paulo. Os dados foram coletados durante a realização de uma oficina pedagógica que contou com atividade simulada de baixa fidelidade.

RESULTADOS

Participaram do estudo 42 enfermeiros, a maioria do sexo feminino e com mais de 15 anos de atuação. Após o treino simulado de baixa fidelidade os enfermeiros demonstraram aumento significativo (p < 0,05) na autoconfiança relacionada à assistência de enfermagem na retenção urinária. Os menores escores autoatribuídos durante a atividade foram relacionados à avaliação objetiva da retenção urinária.

CONCLUSÃO

A simulação de baixa fidelidade é um recurso efetivo no aprimoramento de enfermeiros no que diz respeito à assistência de enfermagem na retenção urinária.
