Abstract
An elongated coronoid process (ECP) can lead to impingement of the coronoid process on the body or arch of the zygomatic bone when opening the mouth. The etiology of ECP is unclear, but several theories have been postulated. We present a case of an ECP found in a 63-year-old in a Caucasian cadaveric specimen. The length of the coronoid process was 26.6 mm on the left side and 26.3 mm on the right side. To our knowledge, this is the longest coronoid process reported in the extant literature. The details of this case and the clinical significance are discussed.

Abstract
Treatment of mandibular coronoid process hyperplasia (MCPH) has been described and explored in the literature. This systematic review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the surgical and non-surgical treatment options for MCPH in pediatric and adult populations. Three databases were searched for treatment of MCPH patients (MEDLINE, Embase, and Web of Science). Two reviewers selected case reports and case series based on titles and abstracts. Finally, 55 studies reporting a total of 127 cases were included for qualitative synthesis and data extraction. The mean age at symptom onset was 15.6 years, while the mean age at diagnosis was 23.5 years. Of the included cases, 83.7% were male, and the condition was bilateral in more than 81% of the cases. Coronoidectomy was performed in 82.7% of the included cases, while coronoidotomy was performed in 3.9% of the cases. In 85.0% of the surgically treated cases, the approach was intraoral. The mean maximal intraoperative mouth opening was 38.1 mm compared with 16.5 mm at diagnosis. The mean maximal postoperative mouth opening was 35.3 mm, and the mean follow-up period was 16.3 months. Maximum mouth opening was achieved intraoperatively, and non-surgical treatment after surgery aims to reduce the risk of relapse. Additional research with a higher level of evidence is necessary to confirm these findings.

Abstract
AIM This topical review presents common patients' misbeliefs about temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and discusses their possible impact on the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. We also discussed the possible influence of the beliefs and behaviors of health care providers on the beliefs of patients with TMD and present possible strategies to overcome the negative impacts of such misbeliefs. METHODS This topical review was based on a non-systematic search for studies about the beliefs of patients and professionals about TMD in PubMed and Embase. RESULTS Patients' beliefs can negatively impact the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of TMD. These beliefs can be modulated by several factors such as culture, psychosocial aspects, gender, level of knowledge, and previous experiences. Moreover, primary health care professionals, including dentists, may lack sufficient experience and skills regarding TMD diagnosis and treatment. Misbeliefs of the health care professionals can be based on outdated evidence that is not supported by rigorous methodological investigations. Education and dissemination of knowledge to patients and the general population are effective for prevention, promotion of health and disruption of the cycle of misinformation and dissemination of misbeliefs. CONCLUSION The lack of basic information about TMD and the dissemination of mistaken and outdated concepts may delay the diagnosis, hinder the treatment, and consequently increase the risk of worsening the condition. Education is key to overcome TMD misbeliefs.

Abstract
AIM To report the surgical management of bilateral mandibular coronoid processes hyperplasia and mandibular retrognathism associated with trismus and convex facial profile in an individual diagnosed with Nager syndrome (NS). CASE REPORT A 21 years old female was referred to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, presenting limited mouth opening and an unpleasant convex facial profile. The tomography exhibited hyperplasia of mandibular coronoid processes with no evidence of intracapsular ankylosis of the temporomandibular joint. The treatment objectives were to increase mouth opening through a bilateral coronoidectomy and gain chin projection using the double-step advancement genioplasty technique. The 9-month postoperative follow-up revealed a 22.22% (6 mm) gain in jaw opening, improved masticatory function, and facial profile. CONCLUSIONS The NS is a complex craniofacial anomaly due to its clinical heterogeneity. Thus, treatment planning must be done individually, considering the patients' main complaints and respecting the limitations regarding anatomy and availability of proper surgical materials. In the present case, a bilateral coronoidectomy associated with immediate physiotherapy improved the patient's mouth opening, and the double-step genioplasty promoted a much more significant chin advancement than would be obtained with the single-step traditional osteotomy.

Abstract
Coronoid hyperplasia is one of the rare causes of progressive limitation of mouth opening due to impingement of the enlarged coronoid process of the mandible on the zygomatic bone. A review was performed on all cases reports and case series on coronoid hyperplasia. Gender, age at treatment, age of onset, types of hyperplasia (unilateral/bilateral), associated history, treatment, surgical approach, preoperative mouth opening, intraoperative mouth opening, mouth opening at follow up and follow up period were recorded and analyzed. A total of 82 articles which reported 115 cases were included. Coronoid hyperplasia was commonly reported at mean age of 22.64 years old with male preponderance. Most of the cases were diagnosed and treated between the age of 11-20 years old. This condition commonly involved bilateral coronoid process of mandible. The mean width of preoperative mouth opening was 16.5mm and was improved to a mean mouth opening of 36.3mm intraoperatively. Mean mouth opening was 34.8mm at an average follow up of 19 months. While the etiopathogenesis of coronoid hyperplasia is still not conclusive, treatment with either coronoidectomy or coronoidotomy produced good improvement in mouth opening.

Abstract
The coronoid process is a beaklike process in the ramus of the mandible. Coronoid process hyperplasia (CPH) is a rare possible cause of reduced mouth opening. An overgrown process interferes with mandibular rotation and lateral excursion and hence leads to restricted mouth opening (RMO). Although some factors are suggested, etiology of CPH is not completely known. Prescription of suitable radiography is necessary for an accurate diagnosis. This article reports a 30-year-old man with bilateral CPH and progressive RMO since childhood. This disorder affected his oral hygiene and quality of life. With the help of different types of radiography, CPH was diagnosed and coronoidectomy was the only treatment option. The patient showed normal jaw movements after the surgery and postoperative physiotherapy. General dentists have an important role in noticing RMO and referring the patients to maxillofacial radiologists. Although it is a rare phenomenon, general dentists need to keep CPH in mind as a possible cause. Panoramic imaging accompanied by computed tomography or cone beam computed tomography is the best imaging option in such cases.

Abstract
Introduction: Mandibular coronoid process hyperplasia is an uncommon congenital or developmental temporomandibular joint disorder, characterized by elongation of the coronoid process, which may cause limited mandibular movement as a consequence of interference between the hyperplastic coronoid process and the medial surface of the zygomatic arch. Methods: Mandibular coronoid process hyperplasia commonly affects males in the second decade of life and the exact aetiology and pathogenesis is unknown. The condition can be uni- or bilateral. Progressive painless reduction in mouth opening is the main clinical finding and computed tomography is the most reliable imaging modality for confirming the diagnosis. Results: Surgical intervention involving coronoidectomy and long-term intensive postoperative physiotherapy is the treatment of choice for mandibular coronoid process hyperplasia with impingement on the zygomatic bone and limited mouth opening. However, surgically induced fibrosis and the tendency for mandibular coronoid process regrowth may cause relapse and renewed limited mouth opening. Vigorous physical therapy should therefore be initiated shortly after surgery. Conclusion: The purpose of this case report is to present the clinical and radiographic features of elongated mandibular coronoid process in an 18-year-old male with limited mouth opening, and to discuss the various surgical treatment modalities.

Abstract
While conventional CT scan has historically been used for maxillofacial bone imaging. The introduction of cone beam CT (CBCT) in the new millennium has revolutionized the use of CT for dental and maxillofacial diagnoses. This paper presents two clinical examples of delayed diagnoses associated with maxillofacial imaging, describes the reasons for the delays and offers potential preventive measures. The first case involves a delay in the diagnosis of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in a 49-year-old female who was being treated for an odontogenic problem. In the second case, a 9-year-old female who presented with a limited ability to open her mouth was mistakenly diagnosed with muscles spasm. Subsequently, she was found to have an elongation of the right lateral pterygoid plate that interfered with her right mandibular body, which restricted the degree to which she could open her mouth. A thorough clinical examination and accurate radiographic interpretation combined with a complete medical history can minimize these types of diagnostic delays. If the dentist is unable to conclusively reach a diagnosis, the patient should be referred immediately to a specialist who can better manage the specific medical problem.

Abstract
Elongation or hyperplasia of coronoid process of mandible is rare condition characterized by abnormal bone development which cause malocclusion and the limited mouth opening. In this study, in an Anatolian skull, a case of bilateral elongation of mandibular coronoid process was presented. Levandoski panographic analysis was performed on the panoramic radiographie to determine the hyperplasia of the coronoid process. The right condylar process was exactly hyperplastic. The measurements of Kr-Go/Cd-Go were 95.10 mm/79.03 mm on right side and 97.53 mm/87.80 mm on left side. The ratio of Kr-Go/Cd-Go on the right side was 1.20. Elongated coronoid process is one of the factors cause mandibular hypomobility, it as reported here might lead to limited mouth opening. The knowledge of this variation or abnormality can be useful for the radiologist and surgeons and prevent misdiagnosis.

Abstract
Coronoid process hyperplasia is a rare condition that causes mouth opening limitation, otherwise known as trismus. The elongated coronoid processes impinge on the medial surfaces of the zygomatic arches when opening the mouth, which limits movement of the mandible and leads to trismus. Patients with trismus due to coronoid process hyperplasia do not have any definite symptoms such as temporomandibular joint pain or sounds upon clinical examination, and no significant abnormal signs are observed on panoramic radiographs or magnetic resonance images of the temporomandibular joint. Thus, the diagnosis of trismus is usually very difficult. However, computed tomography can help with the diagnosis, and the condition can be treated by surgery and postoperative physical therapy. This paper describes four cases of patients who visited our clinic for trismus and were subsequently diagnosed with coronoid process hyperplasia. Three were successfully treated with a coronoidectomy and postoperative physical therapy.
