Abstract
This study investigated the impact of a mixture of six endophytic bacterial strains isolated from cucumber plants on the growth and microbiome diversity of six cucumber traditional varieties and hybrids. Six bacterial species were isolated and identified by 16 s rRNA sequencing. All the bacteria showed plant growth promoting traits. Bacillus tequilensis showed 80 % inhibition of the mycelia growth of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cucumarinum (Foc). Mixed culture of all the bacteria was prepared and applied back to the varieties and hybrids of cucumber plants through seed soaking. Plant growth characteristics indicated that the treated plants showed increased plant growth in terms of plant height, number of leaves, vine length, male:female flower ratio, number of fruits and fruit length. Bacteria treated plants of hybrid HiVeg Chitra recorded 19 cm increase in vine length compared to control plants. The matataxonomic analysis of leaf samples by Illumina sequencing highlighted a diverse bacterial community shift in treated plants, with significant increases in genera like Bacillus and Staphylococcus. The core microbiome analysis identified key genera such as Bacillus, Staphylococcus, Sphingomonas, Methylobacterium, etc that could be pivotal in plant growth promotion. Bacillus and Staphylococcus showed increased abundance in treated varieties, correlating with the observed in plant growth parameters thus indicating their role in growth promotion of cucumber plants. Endophytic bacterial species identified from cucumber plants when re-applied by seed soaking, they promote the plant growth by modulating the microbiome. The bacterial species identified in the study could be potential candidates as microbial bioinputs for cucumber cultivation.

Abstract
Understanding plant-microbe interaction can be useful in identifying the microbial drivers of plant invasions. It is in this context that we explored the diversity of endophytic microbes from leaves of Anthemis cotula, an annual plant that is highly invasive in Kashmir Himalaya. We also tried to establish the role of endophytes in the invasiveness of this alien species. We collected and processed leaf samples from three populations at three different sites. A total of 902 endophytic isolates belonging to 4 bacterial and 2 fungal phyla were recovered that belonged to 27 bacterial and 14 fungal genera. Firmicutes (29.1%), Proteobacteria (24.1%), Ascomycota (22.8%) and Actinobacteria (19%) were dominant across all samples. Plant growth promoting traits, such as Ammonia production, Indole Acetic Acid (IAA) production, Phosphate solubilization and biocontrol activity of these endophytes were also studied and most of the isolates (74.68%) were positive for ammonia production. IAA production, phosphate solubilization and biocontrol activity was present in 39.24%, 36.70% and 20.26% isolates, respectively. Furthermore, Botrytis cinerea, a pathogen of A. cotula in its native range, though present in Kashmir Himalaya does not affect A. cotula probably due to the presence of leaf endophytic microbial antagonists. Our results highlight that the beneficial plant growth promoting interactions and enemy suppression by leaf endophytes of A. cotula, may be contributing to its survival and invasion in the Kashmir Himalaya.

Abstract
Polyethylene (PE) is the most productive plastic product and includes three major polymers including high-density polyethylene (HDPE), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) variation in the PE depends on the branching of the polymer chain and its crystallinity. Tenebrio obscurus and Tenebrio molitor larvae biodegrade PE. We subsequently tested larval physiology, gut microbiome, oxidative stress, and PE degradation capability and degradation products under high-purity HDPE, LLDPE, and LDPE powders (<300 μm) diets for 21 days at 65 ± 5% humidity and 25 ± 0.5 °C. Our results demonstrated the specific PE consumption rates by T. molitor was 8.04-8.73 mg PE ∙ 100 larvae-1⋅day-1 and by T. obscurus was 7.68-9.31 for LDPE, LLDPE and HDPE, respectively. The larvae digested nearly 40% of the ingested three PE and showed similar survival rates and weight changes but their fat content decreased by 30-50% over 21-day period. All the PE-fed groups exhibited adverse effects, such as increased benzoquinone concentrations, intestinal tissue damage and elevated oxidative stress indicators, compared with bran-fed control. In the current study, the digestive tract or gut microbiome exhibited a high level of adaptability to PE exposure, altering the width of the gut microbial ecological niche and community diversity, revealing notable correlations between Tenebrio species and the physical and chemical properties (PCPs) of PE-MPs, with the gut microbiome and molecular weight change due to biodegradation. An ecotoxicological simulation by T.E.S.T. confirmed that PE degradation products were little ecotoxic to Daphnia magna and Rattus norvegicus providing important novel insights for future investigations into the environmentally-friendly approach of insect-mediated biodegradation of persistent plastics.

Abstract
Cronobacter sakazakii can cause severe illnesses in infants, predominantly in preterm newborns, with consumption of contaminated powdered infant formula (PIF) being the major vehicle of infection. Using a dynamic human gastrointestinal simulator called the SHIME, this study examined the effects of gastric acidity and gastric digestion time of newborns on the survival and expression of stress genes of C. sakazakii. Individual strains, inoculated at 7 log CFU/mL into reconstituted PIF, were exposed to gastric pH values of 4.00, 5.00 and 6.00 for 4 h with gradual acidification. The survival results showed that C. sakazakii grew in the stomach portion of the SHIME during a 4-h exposure to pH 4.00, 5.00 and 6.00 by 0.96-1.05, 1.02-1.28 and 1.11-1.73 log CFU/mL, respectively. The expression of two stress genes, rpoS and grxB, throughout gastric digestion was evaluated using reverse transcription qPCR. The upregulation of rpoS and grxB during the 4-h exposure to simulated gastric fluid at pH 4.00 showed that C. sakazakii strains may be experiencing the most stress in the pH 4.00 treatment. The gene expression results also suggest that C. sakazakii strains appeared to develop an acid adaptation response during the 4-h exposure that may facilitate their survival. Altogether, this study highlights that a combination of low gastric acidity, long digestion time in the presence of reconstituted PIF, created a favorable environment for the adaptation and survival of C. sakazakii in the simulation of a newborn's stomach. This study gives directions for future research to further advance our understanding of the behavior of C. sakazakii in the GI tract of newborns.

Abstract
Globally, food security has become a critical concern due to the rise in human population and the current climate change crisis. Usage of conventional agrochemicals to maximize crop yields has resulted in the degradation of fertile soil, environmental pollution as well as human and agroecosystem health risks. Nanotechnology in agriculture is a fast-emerging and new area of research explored to improve crop productivity and nutrient-use efficiency using nano-sized agrochemicals at lower doses than conventional agrochemicals. Nanoparticles in agriculture are applied as nanofertilizers and/or nanopesticides. Positive results have been observed in terms of plant growth when using nano-based agricultural amendments. However, their continuous application may have adverse effects on plant-associated rhizospheric and endospheric microorganisms which often play a crucial role in plant growth, nutrient uptake, and disease prevention. While research shows that the application of nanoparticles has the potential to improve plant growth and yield, their effect on the diversity and function of plant-associated microorganisms remains under-explored. This review provides an overview of plant-associated microorganisms and their functions. Additionally, it highlights the response of plant-associated microorganisms to nanoparticle application and provides insight into areas of research required to promote sustainable and precision agricultural practices that incorporate nanofertilizers and nanopesticides.

Abstract
Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) can promote plant growth and development with several beneficial effects, especially in challenging environmental conditions, such as the presence of toxic contaminants. In this study, 49 isolates obtained from Trifolium sp. nodules growing on a Pb/Zn mine site were characterized for PGP traits including siderophores production, phosphate solubilization, extracellular enzymes production, and antifungal activity. The isolates were also screened for their ability to grow at increasing concentrations of NaCl and heavy metals, including lead, zinc, cobalt, copper, nickel, cadmium, and chromium. The findings of our study indicated that isolates Cupriavidus paucula RSCup01-RSCup08, Providencia rettgeri RSPro01, Pseudomonas putida RSPs01, Pseudomonas thivervalensis RSPs03-RSPs09, and Acinetobacter beijerinckii RSAci01 showed several key traits crucial for promoting plant growth, thus demonstrating the greatest potential. Most isolates displayed resistance to salt and heavy metals. Notably, Staphylococcus xylosus RSSta01, Pseudomonas sp. RSPs02, Micrococcus yunnanensis RSMicc01, and Kocuria dechangensis RSKoc01 demonstrated a significant capacity to grow at salt concentrations ranging from 10 to 20%, and isolates including Cupravidus paucula RSCup01-RSCup08 exhibited resistance to high levels of heavy metals, up to 1300 mg/L Pb++, 1200 mg/L Zn++, 1000 mg/L Ni++, 1000 mg/L Cd++, 500 mg/L Cu++, 400 mg/L Co++, and 50 mg/L CrVI+. Additionally, the analysis revealed that metal-resistant genes pbrA, czcD, and nccA were exclusively detected in the Cupriavidus paucula RSCup01 strain. The results of this study provide insights into the potential of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria strains that might be used as inoculants to improve phytoremediation in heavy metal-contaminated soils.

Abstract
The most significant issues that humans face today include a growing population, an altering climate, an growing reliance on pesticides, the appearance of novel infectious agents, and an accumulation of industrial waste. The production of agricultural goods has also been subject to a great number of significant shifts, often known as agricultural revolutions, which have been influenced by the progression of civilization, technology, and general human advancement. Sustainable measures that can be applied in agriculture, the environment, medicine, and industry are needed to lessen the harmful effects of the aforementioned problems. Endophytes, which might be bacterial or fungal, could be a successful solution. They protect plants and promote growth by producing phytohormones and by providing biotic and abiotic stress tolerance. Endophytes produce the diverse type of bioactive compounds such as alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, tannins, terpenoids, quinones, chinones, phenolic acids etc. and are known for various therapeutic advantages such as anticancer, antitumor, antidiabetic, antifungal, antiviral, antimicrobial, antimalarial, antioxidant activity. Proteases, pectinases, amylases, cellulases, xylanases, laccases, lipases, and other types of enzymes that are vital for many different industries can also be produced by endophytes. Due to the presence of all these bioactive compounds in endophytes, they have preferred sources for the green synthesis of nanoparticles. This review aims to comprehend the contributions and uses of endophytes in agriculture, medicinal, industrial sectors and bio-nanotechnology with their mechanism of action.

Abstract
Pulque is the most-studied traditional Mexican alcoholic beverage prepared by fermentation of the fresh sap (aguamiel, AM) extracted from different Agave species (maguey) cultivated for pulque production. This beverage has been produced mainly in the Central Mexico Plateau since pre-Columbian times. In this contribution, we report the analysis of the bacterial and fungal diversity through 16S rRNA gene V3–V4 fragment amplicon and ITSR1 sequencing associated with the tissue of the walls (metzal) of the cavity or cajete, where the sap accumulates in producing plants for its daily extraction, in AM, and during four fermentation stages for pulque production. The results led to determining which microorganisms detected in the plant tissue are present in AM and maintained during the fermentation process. The results showed that eight bacterial OTUs (Lactobacillus, Leuconostoc, Weisella, Lactococcus, Acetobacter, Gluconobacter, Zymomonas, and Obesumbacterium) and five fungal OTUs (Kazachstania, Kluyveromyces, Saccharomyces, Hanseniaspora, and the OTU O_Saccharomycetales) were present from metzal to AM and during all the stages of the fermentation analyzed. The detected diversity was considered the microbial core for pulque fermentation, comprising up to ~84% of the total bacterial diversity and up to ~99.6% of the fungal diversity detected in the pulque produced from three plants of A. salmiana from the locality of Huitzilac, Morelos, Mexico. This study provides relevant information on the potential microorganisms responsible for pulque fermentation, demonstrating that the core of microorganisms is preserved throughout the elaboration process and their association with the AM and fermented beverage physiochemical profile.

Abstract
The advent of omics has expanded our knowledge of microbial ecology behind Mezcal, a fermented spirit made from the juices of cooked Agave plants (Agave spp., Asparagaceae). Mezcal has been produced in Mexico for over 200 years, however, has been in high demand since its discovery by international markets in the last decade. Mezcal is appreciated for its diverse and complex sensory profile, which is tied to the geographic and environmental diversity of the different Mezcal-producing regions. This regional typicity is brought about by spontaneous fermentation consortia that act in loosely controlled artisanal fermentation processes. Previous works have mainly concentrated on microorganisms involved in the biosynthesis of alcohol and other volatile compounds, or from a different perspective, on culturable microorganisms (mainly yeasts) influencing the taste profile. Attention has been aimed at the richness of microbial populations in point events or under laboratory conditions, which leaves much of the biological richness out of account. Omics techniques have become powerful tools for characterizing the composition of autochthonous fermentation microbiota, regional or endemic features, and ecological processes that determine the dynamics of Mezcal fermentation. The analyses of genetic material, proteins, and metabolites allow disentangling the biological complexity of Mezcal production. This review presents the reader with an up-to-date overview of publications that discuss microbial communities in Mezcal fermentation, metabolic pathways regulated by microbial interactions, and the application of omics to characterize the spontaneous fermenting microbiota conformation and dynamics considering the subjacent ecological processes.

Abstract
Blueberries (Vaccinium sp.) are consumed all around the globe, however, their endophytic community has not been thoroughly researched, specifically their fruit endophytes. We aimed to isolate and analyze easily cultivable blueberry fruit endophytes to help in future research, concerning probiotic microorganisms. Twelve strains were isolated in this pilot study, genetically homologous with Staphylococcus hominis, Staphylococcus cohnii, Salmonella enterica, Leuconostoc mesenteroides, and [Candida] santamariae. To determine the molecular composition of these isolates we used label-free surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). To our knowledge, this is the first time that SERS spectra for L. mesenteroides and C. santamariae are presented, as well as the first report of Candida yeast, isolated specifically from blueberry fruits. Our findings suggest that the differences in tested yeast and bacteria SERS spectra and subsequent differentiation are facilitated by minor shifts in spectral peak positions as well as their intensities. Moreover, we used principal component and discriminant function analyses to differentiate chemotypes within our isolate group, proving the sensitivity of the technique and its usefulness to recognize different strains in plant-associated microbe samples, which will aid to streamline future studies in biofertilizers and biocontrol agents.

Abstract
Agave plants present drought resistance mechanisms, commercial applications, and potential for bioenergy production. Currently, Agave species are used to produce alcoholic beverages and sisal fibers in semi-arid regions, mainly in Mexico and Brazil. Because of their high productivities, low lignin content, and high shoot-to-root ratio, agaves show potential as biomass feedstock to bioenergy production in marginal areas. Plants host many microorganisms and understanding their metabolism can inform biotechnological purposes. Here, we identify and characterize fungal transcripts found in three fiber-producing agave cultivars (Agave fourcroydes, A. sisalana, and hybrid 11648). We used leaf, stem, and root samples collected from the agave germplasm bank located in the state of Paraiba, in the Brazilian semiarid region, which has faced irregular precipitation periods. We used data from a de novo assembled transcriptome assembly (all tissues together). Regardless of the cultivar, around 10% of the transcripts mapped to fungi. Surprisingly, most root-specific transcripts were fungal (58%); of these around 64% were identified as Ascomycota and 28% as Basidiomycota in the three communities. Transcripts that code for heat shock proteins (HSPs) and enzymes involved in transport across the membrane in Ascomycota and Basidiomycota, abounded in libraries generated from the three cultivars. Indeed, among the most expressed transcripts, many were annotated as HSPs, which appear involved in abiotic stress resistance. Most HSPs expressed by Ascomycota are small HSPs, highly related to dealing with temperature stresses. Also, some KEGG pathways suggest interaction with the roots, related to transport to outside the cell, such as exosome (present in the three Ascomycota communities) and membrane trafficking, which were further investigated. We also found chitinases among secreted CAZymes, that can be related to pathogen control. We anticipate that our results can provide a starting point to the study of the potential uses of agaves' fungi as biotechnological tools.

Abstract
Simple Summary Endophytes are microbes that live inside plants without causing negative effects in their hosts. All land plants are known to have endophytes, and these endophytes have the capacity to be transferred between plants. Taking endophytes from desert plants, which grow in low-nutrient, high-stress environments, and transferring them to crop plants may alleviate some of the challenges being faced by the agricultural industry, such as increasing drought frequency and rising opposition to chemical use in agriculture. Studies have shown that desert endophytes have the capacity to increase nutrient uptake and increase plant resistance to drought and heat stress, salt stress, and pathogen attack. Currently, the agricultural industry focuses on using irrigation, chemical fertilizers, and chemical pesticides to solve such issues, which can be extremely damaging to the environment. While there is still a lot that is unknown about endophytes, particularly desert plant endophytes, current research provides evidence that desert plant endophytes could be an environmentally friendly alternative to the conventional solutions being applied today. Abstract Deserts are challenging places for plants to survive in due to low nutrient availability, drought and heat stress, water stress, and herbivory. Endophytes—microbes that colonize and infect plant tissues without causing apparent disease—may contribute to plant success in such harsh environments. Current knowledge of desert plant endophytes is limited, but studies performed so far reveal that they can improve host nutrient acquisition, increase host tolerance to abiotic stresses, and increase host resistance to biotic stresses. When considered in combination with their broad host range and high colonization rate, there is great potential for desert endophytes to be used in a commercial agricultural setting, especially as croplands face more frequent and severe droughts due to climate change and as the agricultural industry faces mounting pressure to break away from agrochemicals towards more environmentally friendly alternatives. Much is still unknown about desert endophytes, but future studies may prove fruitful for the discovery of new endophyte-based biofertilizers, biocontrol agents, and abiotic stress relievers of crops.

Abstract
Climatic factors and pathogenic fungi threaten global banana production. Moreover, bananas are being cultivated using excessive amendments of nitrogen and pesticides, which shift the microbial diversity in plants and soil. Advances in high-throughput sequencing (HTS) technologies and culture-dependent methods have provided valuable information about microbial diversity and functionality of plant-associated endophytic communities. Under stressful (biotic or abiotic) conditions, plants can recruit sets of microorganisms to alleviate specific potentially detrimental effects, a phenomenon known as “cry for help”. This mechanism is likely initiated in banana plants infected by Fusarium wilt pathogen. Recently, reports demonstrated the synergistic and cumulative effects of synthetic microbial communities (SynComs) on naturally occurring plant microbiomes. Indeed, probiotic SynComs have been shown to increase plant resilience against biotic and abiotic stresses and promote growth. This review focuses on endophytic bacterial diversity and keystone taxa of banana plants. We also discuss the prospects of creating SynComs composed of endophytic bacteria that could enhance the production and sustainability of Cavendish bananas (Musa acuminata AAA), the fourth most important crop for maintaining global food security.

Abstract
The phloem sap tapped from unopened inflorescence (spadix) of coconut palm using a novel collecting device, "coco-sap chiller," has been branded Kalparasa® (henceforth as Kalparasa in the text) to distinguish its properties not found in sap harvested by traditional methods. To know its hitherto unidentified microbiome profile, we employed high-throughput sequencing to uncover the bacteriome and mycobiome in fresh and 12-h fermented samples. Fresh Kalparasa had a pH of 7.2, which dropped to 4.5 after 12 h, signifying fermentation of the sap. Diversity analysis indicated fresh Kalparasa having higher bacterial species than the fermented one. Contrary to this, fresh sap had lower fungal/yeast diversity than the fermented sample. Fresh Kalparasa had relatively higher abundance of probiotic-type Leuconostoc genus followed by equal proportions of Gluconobacter, Acetobacter, and Fructobacillus. The 12-h fermented Kalparasa showed a significant increase in Gluconobacter with a sharp decrease in Leuconostoc. Mycobiome data revealed fresh Kalparasa to be preponderant in Saccharomyces and Hanseniaspora genera of yeasts while the fermented sap had higher representation of Hanseniaspora and Cortinarius and lesser Saccharomyces. This suggested that the fermentation of Kalparasa was probably driven by symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeasts (SCOBY), particularly acetic acid bacteria and non-Saccharomyces yeasts. The bacteriome-function predictions highlighted the enrichment of glycerophospholipid, ABC transporters, purine, and pyrimidine metabolisms. Based on our findings, Kalparasa containing large population of Leuconostoc mesenteroides, Fructobacillus fructosus, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Hanseniaspora guilliermondii can be promoted as a healthy "unfermented" plant edible food containing live probiotic-type microbiome during its consumption.

Abstract
Water shortage limits agricultural productivity, so strategies to get higher yields in dry agricultural systems is vital to circumvent the effect of climate change and land-shortage. The plant rhizosphere harbors beneficial bacteria able to confer biotic/abiotic tolerance along with a positive impact on plant growth. Herein, three bacterial strains, Proteus mirabilis R2, Pseudomonas balearica RF-2 and Cronobacter sakazakii RF-4 (accessions: LS975374, LS975373, LS975370, respectively) isolated from native desert-weeds were investigated for their response to improve wheat growth under drought stress. The bacteria showed drought tolerance up to 20% polyethylene glycol (PEG; -0.6 MPa), and salt (65-97 g l-1 ), 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC)-deaminase activity, P/Zn/K-solubilization, calcite degradation, IAA, and siderophore production. The plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) were evaluated on wheat under water stress. The P. balearica strain RF-2 primed seeds showed a maximum promptness index and germination index under PEG-stress, that is, 68% and 100%, respectively. Inoculation significantly improved plant growth, leaf area, and biomass under water stress. P. mirabilis R2 inoculated plant leaves showed the highest water contents as compared to the plants inoculated with other strains. C. sakazakii RF-4 inoculated plants showed minimum cell injury, electrolyte leakage, and maximum cell membrane stability at PEG stress. After 13 days exposure to drought, C. sakazakii RF-4 treated plants showed an overall higher expression of cytosolic ascorbate peroxidase (cAPX) and ribulose-bisphosphate carboxylase (rbcL) genes. The activity of stress-induced catalase and polyphenol oxidase was reduced, while that of peroxidase and superoxide dismutase increased after inoculation but the response was temporal. Taken together, this data explains that different PGPR (especially C. sakazakii RF-4) modulate differential responses in wheat that eventually leads towards drought tolerance, hence, it has the potential to enhance crop production in arid regions.

Abstract
In this study, the seed endosphere of a bacterial wilt tolerant chilli cv. Firingi Jolokia was explored in order to find effective agents for bacterial wilt disease biocontrol. A total of 32 endophytic bacteria were isolated from freshly collected seeds and six isolates were selected based on R. solanacearum inhibition assay. These isolates were identified as Bacillus subtilis (KJ-2), Bacillus velezensis (KJ-4), Leuconostoc mesenteroides (KP-1), Lactococcus lactis (LB-3), Bacillus amyloliquefaciens (WK-2), and Bacillus subtilis (WK-3) by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. In the in planta R. solanacearum inhibition assay carried out by seedling root bacterization method, Bacillus subtilis (KJ-2) exhibited highest biocontrol efficacy of 86.6 % on 7th day post R. solanacearum inoculation and a minimum biocontrol efficacy of 52.9 % was noted for Leuconostoc mesenteroides (KP-1). GC-HRMS analysis detected several known antimicrobial compounds in the extract of the culture supernatant of Bacillus subtilis (KJ-2); which may contribute to inhibition of R. solanacearum. In the growth promotion assay conducted using these isolates, only two of them namely Bacillus subtilis (KJ-2) and Bacillus amyloliquefaciens (WK-2) showed growth promotion in true leafed tomato plants. All the selected seed endophytic isolates were able to control bacterial wilt of tomato at the seedling stage and Bacillus subtilis (KJ-2) was found to be most effective in controlling the disease. The results of the present study highlighted that seed endosphere of bacterial wilt tolerant cultivar is a rich source of R. solanacearum antagonizing bacterial isolates.

Abstract
Aguamiel is the sap collected from agave, while pulque is the result of the natural fermentation of aguamiel. Despite its ancestral origin and numerous publications on pulque production, little is known about the evolution and concentration of sugars and fructo-oligosaccharides in aguamiel, either during its daily accumulation or through the agave production lifetime. In this study, we examined aguamiel composition in three agave plants during their productive lifetime (4 to 9 months). After each collection, the agave pine is scraped to induce aguamiel to flow into an internally created cavity (cajete), producing a residual bagasse (metzal). We found that the concentration of agave fructans and sucrose, as well as the fructan profile, change during the aguamiel production process. During the daily collection, a small amount of agave fructans released from the pine by scraping is drawn into the cajete with the first milliliters of sap where it is then diluted with the inflow of aguamiel. The main component of aguamiel is the sucrose produced in high concentration in the leaves through photosynthesis and then hydrolyzed in the cajete as aguamiel accumulates. We also describe how the fructan profile changes during the accumulation of aguamiel in the cajete. In addition to the varying amount of sucrose that is hydrolyzed in the aguamiel accumulated, we found that fructo-oligosaccharides are either diluted, consumed, or hydrolyzed, depending on the plant and its production stage, thus yielding different fructan profiles. New fructo-oligosaccharides are, in some cases, synthesized by bacteria present in aguamiel. These profiles were also observed in aguamiel collected from ten different plants in the same production region. We also found that a considerable amount of agave fructans is lost in metzal (bagasse), the agave material that is scraped and thrown away twice a day during the production process.

Abstract
The environmental release of graphene oxide (GO) will certainly induce the GO exposure to plants. To date, the influence of GO on the intracellular structures and the endophytic bacterial ecology of plants have been rarely reported. In the present study, the rice seedlings were exposed to GO (5 mg/L) under hydroponic condition for fifteen days with periodic stir. The cellular structures damage, GO deposition and oxidative stress were found in rice root after GO exposure. A Illumina analysis based on the bacterial 16 S rRNA gene showed that the richness, evenness and diversity of endophytic bacterial communities of rice root decreased due to GO exposure. The relative abundance of beneficial endophytic bacterial populations decreased after GO exposure. Out of potential phenotypes predicted by BugBase, the relative abundance of Gram negative, stress-tolerant and biofilm-forming phenotypes, presented an increase trend after GO exposure.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB) can be an environment-friendly strategy to improve crop production in low-phosphorus (P) or P-deficient soils. The effect of indigenous mixed inocula of PSB on Agave angustifolia Haw. growth was assessed. The four treatments evaluated were T1 (Pseudomonas luteola + Enterobacter sp.), T2 (Pseudomonas luteola + Bacillus sp.), T3 (Pseudomonas luteola + Acinetobacter sp.), and T4 (control); each was replicated 25 times using a completely randomized design during 12 months under rain-fed conditions. Additionally, P solubilization in vitro of the mixed inocula with three different sources of inorganic P was tested. RESULTS The mixed inocula were able to solubilize more P from tricalcium phosphate Ca3 (PO4 )2 than from aluminum phosphate (AlPO4 ) and iron phosphate (FePO4 ). Relative to the control, T2 increased plant height by 22.9%, leaf dry weight by 391.4%, plant stem diameter by 49.6%, and root dry weight by 193.9%. The stem solid soluble content increased 50.0% with T1. Plant-available soil P increased 94.6% with T3 and 77.3% with T1. Soil alkaline phosphatase activity increased 85.9% with T1. CONCLUSION T2 was the mixed inoculum that most improved Agave angustifolia plant growth. The indigenous mixed inocula of PSB evaluated appears to be a practical and efficient option for promoting field growth of Agave angustifolia plants. However, further research is necessary to achieve a deeper understanding of the relationships between different PSB species and their effects on agave, which may reveal some of the mechanisms of the synergistic interactions that are involved in the promotion of plant growth. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Banana (Musa spp.) is an important crop worldwide, but black Sigatoka disease caused by the fungus Pseudocercospora fijiensis threatens fruit production. In this work, we examined the potential of the endophytes of banana plants Enterobacter cloacae and Klebsiella pneumoniae, as antagonists of P. fijiensis and support plant growth in nutrient limited soils by N-transfer. The two bacterial isolates were identified by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry and corroborated by 16S rRNA sequence analysis. Both bacteria were positive for beneficial traits such as N-fixation, indole acetic acid production, phosphate solubilization, negative for 1-aminocyclopropane 1-carboxylic acid deaminase and were antagonistic to P. fijiensis. To measure the effects on plant growth, the two plant bacteria and an E. coli strain (as non-endophyte), were inoculated weekly for 60 days as active cells (AC) and heat-killed cells (HKC) into plant microcosms without nutrients and compared to a water only treatment, and a mineral nutrients solution (MMN) treatment. Bacterial treatments increased growth parameters and prevented accelerated senescence, which was observed for water and mineral nutrients solution (MMN) treatments used as controls. Plants died after the first 20 days of being irrigated with water; irrigation with MMN enabled plants to develop some new leaves, but plants lost weight (−30%) during the same period. Plants treated with bacteria showed good growth, but E. cloacae AC treated plants had significantly greater biomass than the E. cloacae HKC. After 60 days, plants inoculated with E. cloacae AC showed intracellular bacteria within root cells, suggesting that a stable symbiosis was established. To evaluate the transference of organic N from bacteria into the plants, the 3 bacteria were grown with 15NH4Cl or Na15NO3 as the nitrogen source. The 15N transferred from bacteria to plant tissues was measured by pheophytin isotopomer abundance. The relative abundance of the isotopomers m/z 872.57, 873.57, 874.57, 875.57, 876.57 unequivocally demonstrated that plants acquired 15N atoms directly from bacterial cells, using them as a source of N, to support plant growth in restricted nutrient soils. E. cloacae might be a new alternative to promote growth and health of banana crops.

Abstract
Bacteria on floral tissue can have negative effects by consuming resources and affecting nectar quality, which subsequently could reduce pollinator visitation and plant fitness. Plants however can employ chemical defences to reduce bacteria density. In North American, bee-pollinated Penstemon digitalis, the nectar volatile S-(+)-linalool can influence plant fitness, and terpenes such as linalool are known for their antimicrobial properties suggesting that it may also play a role in plant–microbe interactions. Therefore, we hypothesized linalool could affect bacterial growth on P. digitalis plants/flowers. Because P. digitalis emits linalool from nectar and nectary tissue but not petals, we hypothesised that the effects of linalool could depend on tissue of origin due to varying exposure. We isolated bacteria from nectary tissue, petals and leaves, and compared their growth relative to control using two volatile concentrations representing the natural emission range of linalool. To assess whether effects were specific to linalool, we compared results with the co-occurring nectar volatile, methyl nicotinate. We show that response to floral volatiles can be substance and tissue-origin specific. Because linalool could slow growth rate of bacteria across the P. digitalis phyllosphere, floral emission of linalool could play a role in mediating plant–bacteria interactions in this system.

Abstract
A dual-function platinum disc microelectrode sensor was used for in-situ monitoring of H2O2 produced in A. tequilana leaves after inoculation of their endophytic bacteria (Enterobacter cloacae). Voltammetric experiments were carried out from 0.0 to -1.0V, a potential range where H2O2 is electrochemically reduced. A needle was used to create a small cavity in the upper epidermis of A. tequilana leaves, where the fabricated electrochemical sensor was inserted by using a manual three-dimensional micropositioner. Control experiments were performed with untreated plants and the obtained electrochemical results clearly proved the formation of H2O2 in the leaves of plants 3h after the E. cloacae inoculation, according to a mechanism involving endogenous signaling pathways. In order to compare the sensitivity of the microelectrode sensor, the presence of H2O2 was detected in the root hairs by 3,3-diaminobenzidine (DAB) stain 72h after bacterial inoculation. In-situ pH measurements were also carried out with a gold disc microelectrode modified with a film of iridium oxide and lower pH values were found in A. tequilana leaves treated with bacteria, which may indicate the plant produces acidic substances by biosynthesis of secondary metabolites. This microsensor could be an advantageous tool for further studies on the understanding of the mechanism of H2O2 production during the plant-endophyte interaction.

Abstract
The effect of plant growth-promoting bacteria inoculation on plant growth and the sugar content in Agave americana was assessed. The bacterial strains ACO-34A, ACO-40, and ACO-140, isolated from the A. americana rhizosphere, were selected for this study to evaluate their phenotypic and genotypic characteristics. The three bacterial strains were evaluated via plant inoculation assays, and Azospirillum brasilense Cd served as a control strain. Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene showed that strains ACO-34A, ACO-40 and ACO-140 were Rhizobium daejeonense, Acinetobacter calcoaceticus and Pseudomonas mosselii, respectively. All of the strains were able to synthesize indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), solubilize phosphate, and had nitrogenase activity. Inoculation using the plant growth-promoting bacteria strains had a significant effect (p < 0.05) on plant growth and the sugar content of A. americana, showing that these native plant growth-promoting bacteria are a practical, simple, and efficient alternative to promote the growth of agave plants with proper biological characteristics for agroindustrial and biotechnological use and to increase the sugar content in this agave species.
