Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the effect of immersion in disinfecting solutions on the color stability of denture base resins and artificial teeth obtained by 3D printing. MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty discs (15 × 3 mm) were obtained for each group: Lucitone 550 and Cosmos Denture 3D (denture base resins), Duralay and Cosmos TEMP 3D (artificial teeth resins). The discs were immersed in disinfectant solutions: Corega Tabs, 2% chlorhexidine digluconate, 0.25% sodium hypochlorite, and distilled water. Color measurements were obtained with a spectrophotometer before immersion in disinfectants and after the simulated periods of 6 and 12 months. Data (ΔE00 ) were submitted to mixed three-way ANOVA and Bonferroni post-test. RESULTS For denture base resins, Cosmos Denture 3D showed greater color change regardless of the solution and immersion time. The immersion time of 6 months influenced the color change of the denture base resins regardless of the disinfectant solution. For the artificial teeth resins, the immersion time of 12 months showed a significant color change when compared to 6 months. Cosmos TEMP 3D showed greater color change for all solutions, except for 0.25% sodium hypochlorite. Duralay resin showed greater color change in 2% chlorhexidine, regardless of immersion time. CONCLUSIONS For denture base resins, the immersion time significantly changed the color regardless of the solution. For artificial teeth resins, Cosmos TEMP 3D showed greater color changes in all solutions when compared to Duralay, except for 0.25% sodium hypochlorite. Chlorhexidine digluconate significantly changed the color of Duralay.

Abstract
Candida albicans (C. albicans) and Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) biofilms involve in denture stomatitis. This study compared compound 1 to 2% chlorhexidine gluconate (CHX), Polident, and distilled water (DW) in biofilms reduction and effect on polymethylmethacrylate acrylic (PMMA) properties. The structure of lawsone (naphthoquinone derivative) was modified by the addition of an alkylnyloxy group to yield compound 1. Dual-species biofilms of C. albicans and S. mutans were developed on PMMA discs. The colony-forming unit count measured the number of residual biofilm cells after exposure to the test agents. PMMA discs were examined for color stability, surface roughness, hardness, and chemical structure after 28 days. At 3 min, compound 1 was less effective than CHX in reducing C. albicans (p = 0.004) and S. mutans (p = 0.034) but more effective than Polident in reducing C. albicans (p = 0.001). At 15 min, no viable cells were detectable for compound 1 and its effectiveness was comparable to CHX (p = 0.365). SEM showed fungal cell surface damages in CHX, compound 1 and Polident groups. Only color change was affected by time (p < 0.001) and type of test agent (p = 0.008), and only CHX reached a clinical perception level. Compound 1 is a promising agent for removing biofilm from the PMMA surface without substantially degrading surface properties.

Abstract
PURPOSE To systematically review past studies to determine the effect of various solutions on the color of denture teeth, thus answering the question in regards to which type of denture teeth has the best optical properties after exposure to various solutions. The method of measuring the color of artificial teeth was also evaluated as a secondary outcome. MATERIALS AND METHODS A search of studies that quantitatively investigated the influence of immersion solutions on the color change of denture teeth was conducted. Ovid MEDLINE, PubMed and Scopus databases were searched from 1997 to April 2021. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were used during article selection. Data regarding the effect of immersion solutions, accelerated aging and surface treatments on color change were gathered. Methodologies used to assess optical properties were also summarized and compared. The modified CONSORT checklist was used to determine the risk of bias of past studied included in this review. RESULTS One hundred thirty-three studies were identified after removing duplicates. Forty-one studies were selected for full-text analysis, and 35 remaining papers met the inclusion criteria and were therefore included in this systematic review. Thirty-two in vitro studies and 3 in vivo studies were included in the review. All studies reported that immersion in various solutions has a significant influence on the change in color and optical properties of denture teeth. However, the discoloration of denture teeth is still clinically acceptable in most studies. Exposure to various solutions also affected the translucency parameter of denture teeth. Most studies also investigated the surface roughness and hardness along with the optical properties, and reported that immersion cycles did not cause changes in surface roughness of denture teeth, while hardness was affected. The optical properties of PMMA denture teeth have been studied extensively, whereas that of CAD/CAM and 3D printed denture teeth is limited. CONCLUSIONS Color stability of CAD/CAM milled denture teeth is comparable to conventional PMMA denture teeth. There are contradictory findings in terms of color stability of 3D printed denture teeth as compared to conventional PMMA denture teeth. Staining by coffee is worst among the common beverages and solutions investigated. Denture teeth can show color changes after immersion in staining beverages as early as one week. The degree of discoloration of denture teeth after immersion is time dependent, with the larger extent in the initial phase.

Abstract
Chlorhexidine (CHX)-based dental hygiene products are widely used by dental patients. As these products may have long-term contact with denture poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) resin, anti-discoloration systems (ADSs) were included in them to prevent discoloration of the natural teeth and dental materials. Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of two newly designed CHX-containing gels with ADSs and two commercial products with ADSs (Curasept 0.5% and Curasept 1%) in preventing staining and to analyze the mechanical properties of heat-curing PMMA denture base resin. Materials and methods: Twenty-five discs (five for each test group) of PMMA dental resin with a thickness of 1 mm and a diameter of 20 mm were polymerized according to the manufacturer’s instructions and stored in distillate water at a temperature of 37 °C. The surface of the specimens was covered with two commercially available gels—Curasept 1% and Curasept 0.5%, or two experimental gel formulations containing 1% CHX. PMMA specimens stored in distilled water were used as control. The initial values of color and Brinell hardness of the specimens were measured immediately after specimen preparation. The changes in color and Brinell hardness, as well as water sorption, and solubility of the specimens were measured after one year of conditioning. Statistical analysis of the obtained data was performed using one-way analysis of variance and Dunn–Bonferroni post hoc tests. Results: In the group of specimens covered with gel 1 with citric acid or Curasept 0.5%, the color change was clinically acceptable (ΔE* < 2.7). In the specimens stored in contact with gel 2 with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and Curasept 1%, the ΔE* values were 3.6 and 3.67, respectively. In the control group, the level of hardness decreased significantly from 150 to 140 during the experiment. In addition, a statistically significant decrease in hardness was observed in specimens stored with Curasept 1% and gel 2 with PVP. Specimens stored in contact with Curasept 0.5% and gel 1 with citric acid also showed a lower hardness, but the change was not statistically significant. The sorption of all the groups of PMMA specimens ranged from 22.83 to 24.47 µg/mm3, with no significant differences found between them. All the PMMA specimens stored in contact with the tested CHX gels exhibited a significantly higher solubility (6.84 ± 7.91 µg/mm3) compared to the control group (6.74 µg/mm3), with the highest solubility noted for specimens stored with Curasept 1%. Conclusions: The results showed that CHX used in the gel form with ADSs at a concentration of 0.5% and the experimental gel containing 1% CHX with citric acid caused limited changes to the color and mechanical properties of the PMMA denture base resin during the study period. These gels may be safely used by dental patients for oral hygiene regimen even for prolonged periods of time. ADSs contained in these gels seem to be effective in preventing CHX discoloration.

Abstract
Improvement of the antibacterial properties of acrylic resins, used in the construction of removable orthodontic appliances, is an important strategy to reduce the incidence of caries and oral diseases in orthodontic treatments. The addition of antimicrobial agents to acrylic resins is one of the effective methods to enhance the antimicrobial properties of these materials. However, one main concern is that modification of acrylic resin has negative effects on its mechanical properties. Recently, chitosan nanoparticles (NPs), as biocompatible and biodegradable polysaccharides with remarkable antimicrobial properties, have been used in different areas of dentistry and medicine. This study aimed to investigate the effects of adding chitosan NPs on the mechanical properties of a cold-cure orthodontic acrylic resin. The chitosan NPs were added to the acrylic resin in various weight percentages: 0% (control), 0.5%, 1%, 2%, and 4%. The flexural strength, compressive strength, Vickers microhardness, and impact strength measurements were performed for all five groups. The results showed that adding up to 1% (w/w) chitosan NPs to an acrylic resin had no significant negative effects on its flexural strength and compressive strength, while it decreased these parameters at weight percentages of 2% and 4% (w/w). The results also revealed that modification of acrylic resin with chitosan NPs up to 4% had no significant negative effects on the microhardness and impact strength of acrylic resin. In conclusion, the addition of chitosan NPs up to 1% (w/w) had no significant negative effects on the mechanical properties of cold-cure acrylic resin.

Abstract
Results The mouthwash containing titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles produced the greater enamel discoloration compared to that of chlorhexidine. Brushing had little effect on removal of stains induced by all mouthwashes except for dietary solutions (lemon with sodium bicarbonate and olive with laurel) and distilled water (control). Conclusion The results from this study show that mouthwashes containing TiO2 nanoparticles and other antiseptic mouthwashes cause change in color of the teeth and lead to poor esthetic appearance when compared to dietary and control solutions. Thus, future in vivo studies have to be conducted to confirm these findings as in vitro studies may not provide a reliable simulation of the clinical situations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Retainers are of great importance for the longevity of the prosthetic removable partial denture during various functions especially the esthetic one. The key of successful clasp selection is to select a direct retainer that will control tipping and torquing forces on the abutment teeth, provide retention against reasonable dislodging forces and are compatible with both tooth and tissue contour together with the aesthetic desire of the patient. AIM: This study aims to compare different clasp material to enhance the choice of the clasp based on the aesthetic point of view. METHODS: The colour evaluation of the tested materials had been evaluated by computer aided technique with digital camera with 3 Mega Pixels of resolution. RESULTS: In the current research, the technique of colour evaluation was carried out to compare different clasp materials to enhance the choice of the clasp based on the aesthetic point of view. Most commonly, Removable Partial Denture (RPD) retainers are fabricated identically from the metal framework’s alloy as Cobalt Chromium (CoCr) alloy although it is unaesthetic. This esthetic problem has been overcome by other methods and by utilising different materials, these included covering the retainers with tooth-coloured acrylic resin, as well as the introduction of esthetic materials as; Thermoplastic Acetal, Versacryl, and Thermopress. CONCLUSION: It has been concluded that the non-metallic Acetal resin clasp shows superior physical properties regarding colour stability.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to compare the effects of some disinfectants, including ethanol extract of propolis (EEP), on the adhesion of Candida albicans to denture base resins. Seventy-two acrylic resin samples were prepared, half of which was polished and the other half was roughened. C. albicans strain ATCC 10231 was incubated on Sabouraud dextrose agar (SDA) at 37°C for 48 h. The adhesion period was completed by keeping the cells in this suspension for 90 min at 37°C. Specimens were then immersed in the following solutions: 1%, 2%, and 5% sodium hypochlorite; 4% chlorhexidine gluconate; and 10% EEP. Quantification of the antifungal activity of the chemical solutions was performed using the colorimetric MTT (3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay test. One-way ANOVA and post-hoc Tukey tests were performed to evaluate the effectiveness of chemical agents. Polished and roughened surfaces were compared using independent sample t-test. The mean surface roughness value was 0.35 (±0.04) µm for the polished group and 1.2 (±0.2) µm for the roughened group. The contact angles of both surfaces showed statistically significant difference, and 10% EEP solution exhibited significantly less removal of adherent viable C. albicans cells in both groups. All forms of sodium hypochlorite solutions yielded higher efficiency than 4% chlorhexidine gluconate and EEP solutions (P < 0.05). (J Oral Sci 58, 431-437, 2016).

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate and compare the efficacy of two plant extracts and two commercially available denture cleansers against candida albicans adherent to soft denture reline material. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this study 60 specimens of soft denture reliner material specimens were fabricated with dimensions 10x10x2 mm. The sterile specimens were inoculated by immersion in Sabourand broth containing Candida albicans for 16 hours at 37°C in an incubator. Then the specimens were washed and immersed in denture cleansers which were divided into group five groups from Group I-V for CD Clean(®), Nigella sativa, thyme essential oil, Fittydent(®) and distilled water respectively, for 8 hours at room temperature. Then they were washed, fixed with methanol and stained with crystal violet. Candida cells adherent to the specimens were counted under microscope. The number of cells adherent to test samples were compared with that adherent to control. RESULTS The effectiveness of Fittydent(®) was more than CD Clean(®) in reducing the adherent candida albicans and the difference was statically significant (p = <0.001). Both thyme essential oil and nigella sativa were almost same in effectiveness against candida albicans but the difference was not statically significant (p= 0.79). Post-hoc Tukey's test was performed which indicated that Fittydent® was the most effective amongst the denture cleansers tested in this study, followed by thyme essential oil, nigella sativa and CD Clean(®). CONCLUSION The results of the study showed that all denture cleansers used in the study were significantly effective. The study indicated that Fittydent is more effective amongst the denture cleansers because of its mechanism of action; however the plant extracts used in this study were also significantly effective against candida albicans.

Abstract
The aim of the study was to assess clinical efficacy of corega tabs cleaning tablets for dentures in 36 somatically intact patients aged 35 to 64 years with Class I and II defects of the lower jaw dentition treated with partial arc dentures. Control group included 30 persons of similar age and condition of the oral cavity using traditional oral hygiene means. The results of the study proved the absence of pathological galvanical phenomenas in metallic parts of arc dentures after exposure to a solution obtained by dissolving the cleansing tablets for partial dentures corega tabs. The shown effect of passivation of the metallic parts of the arc prostheses may be seen as a preventive measure for the development of oral galvanosis in this group of patients.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate the effect of successive cycles of disinfection in different denture cleansers on the surface roughness and the Vickers hardness of two layers of acrylic resin (base-BL and enamel-EL) of two commercial cross-linked artificial teeth. MATERIALS AND METHODS The occlusal surfaces of 60 acrylic resin denture posterior teeth (Trilux-TLX and SR Orthosit PE-SRO) embedded in autopolymerizing acrylic resin were ground fat with 1200-grit silicon carbide paper. Specimens were stored in distilled water at 37°C and then submitted to the microhardness (VHN) and roughness (μm) tests. Specimens were stored in distilled water at 37°C for 90 days and submitted to 720 disinfection cycles in sodium hypochlorite at 0.5%, 30% vinegar solution or distilled water (control). Afterward, micro-hardness and roughness tests were again performed. Data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (α=0.05). RESULTS Hypochlorite immersion decreased the hardness of BL and EL of SRO teeth, with an average reduction of 10.11% (p<0.008). TLX teeth demonstrated a hardness reduction of 28.96% of both layers for all solutions including water (p<0.0000). The roughness of both teeth was not affected by denture cleansers (p>0.37). CONCLUSION Hypochlorite promoted deleterious effects on the hardness of both layers of the artificial teeth tested. Immersion in vinegar and water also resulted in reduction of hardness of TLX teeth. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The surface hardness of the different layers of cross-linked artificial teeth can be altered by daily disinfection in denture cleansers commonly indicated for removable dentures.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study evaluated color stability of acrylic denture teeth and base resins after 48 weeks of commercial denture cleanser simulation. MATERIALS AND METHODS Two brands of denture teeth (Trubyte Portrait IPN, TP; SR Vivodent DCL, SR) in shades A1, B1, and C1 and three acrylic base resins (Lucitone, LU; Paragon, PA; Valplast, VA) prepared to manufacturer's specifications were exposed 10 hours daily to four cleansers (Clorox Bleach, CB; Polident 3 minute, PO3; Efferdent, EF; and Kleenite, KL) and distilled water control, approximating consumer overnight use. Color measurements used the standard Commision International de l'Eclairage (International Commission on Illumination, CIE L*a*b*) color space (0, 4, 12, 24, 36, and 48 weeks.) Color differences (ΔE*) at 48 weeks were subjected to four-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Mean values were compared with Fisher's (protected least significant difference) intervals (0.05 significance level). RESULTS Mean color differences (ΔE*) demonstrated color changes in each material. ANOVA-indicated color changes in teeth were significantly affected by both cleansers and teeth brand (p < 0.05), but not shade. Color changes in base resins were significantly affected by cleansers (p < 0.05), but not brand alone. Overall, KL produced the least color change while CB and PO3 produced the most for all materials. CONCLUSIONS After 48 weeks of daily simulation, TP teeth were more color stable than SR in all cleansers except EF (p < 0.0001). Base resin VA was less color stable than LU and PA. Cleanser KL resulted in the lowest color changes. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE All tested materials yield clinically acceptable color changes (ΔE* < 3.5); all cleansing methods tested can be recommended, although Kleenite demonstrated the least change after 48 weeks.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION: The occurrence of stomatitis is common since the surface characteristics of the dentures may act as reservoirs for microorganisms and have the potential to support biofilm formation. PURPOSE: To assess the surface properties (wettability/roughness) and color stability of an acrylic resin combined with the antimicrobial polymer poly (2-tert-butylaminoethyl) methacrylate (PTBAEMA). MATERIAL AND METHOD: Thirty disc-shaped specimens of an acrylic resin (Lucitone 550) were divided into three groups: 0% (control); 5% and 10% PTBAEMA. Surface roughness values (Ra) were measured using a profilometer and wettability was determined through contact angle measurements using a goniometer and deionized water as a test liquid. Color data were measured with a spectrophotometer. Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn's test were used to compare roughness values. Wettability data were analyzed using ANOVA and Tukey's test. Color data were compared using the Student's t-test and ∆E values were classified according to the National Bureau of Standards (NBS). All statistical analyses were performed considering α=.05. RESULT: Significant differences (p<.05) were detected among the groups for roughness, wettability and color stability. According to the NBS, the color changes obtained in the 5% and 10% PTBAEMA groups were "appreciable" and "much appreciable", respectively. CONCLUSION: It could be concluded that PTBAEMA incorporation in an acrylic resin increased the roughness and wettability of surfaces and produced color changes with clinical relevance.
