The 100 most cited articles on lung cancer screening: a bibliometric analysis

Amylose content controls the V-type structural formation and in vitro digestibility of maize starch-resveratrol complexes and their effect on human gut microbiota

The chain structure of starch affects its interaction with polyphenol molecules which in turn determines the nutritional function of starch. In this study, starch with different amylose content including waxy maize starch (WMS), normal maize starch (NMS) and G50 high-amylose maize starch (G50) were selected to complex with resveratrol (RA) in high-pressure homogenization (HPH) environment, and structural changes of the complexes, together with their effects on in vitro digestibility and gut microbiota were discussed. The results showed that with increasing amylose content, RA could form more inclusion complex with starch through non-covalent bonds accompanied by the increased single helix structure, V-type crystalline structure, compact nano-aggregates and total ordered structure content, which thus endowed the complex lower digestibility and intestinal probiotic function. Notably, when RA addition reached 3 %, the resistant starch (RS) content of HP-G50-3 % rose to 29.2 %, correspondingly increased the relative abundance of beneficial gut microbiota such as Megamonas and Bifidobacterium, as well as the total short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) content. Correlation analysis showed that V-type crystalline structure positively correlated with the growth of Pediococcu and Blautia (p < 0.05) for producing SCFAs. These findings provided feasible ideas for the development of personalized nutritional starch-based foods.

Bibliometric analysis of the use of artificial intelligence in COVID-19 based on scientific studies

Background and Aims

One such strategy is citation analysis used by researchers for research planning an article referred to by another article receives a "citation." By using bibliometric analysis, the development of research areas and authors' influence can be investigated. The current study aimed to identify and analyze the characteristics of 100 highly cited articles on the use of artificial intelligence concerning COVID-19.

Methods

On July 27, 2022, this database was searched using the keywords "artificial intelligence" and "COVID-19" in the topic. After extensive searching, all retrieved articles were sorted by the number of citations, and 100 highly cited articles were included based on the number of citations. The following data were extracted: year of publication, type of study, name of journal, country, number of citations, language, and keywords.

Results

The average number of citations for 100 highly cited articles was 138.54. The top three cited articles with 745, 596, and 549 citations. The top 100 articles were all in English and were published in 2020 and 2021. China was the most prolific country with 19 articles, followed by the United States with 15 articles and India with 10 articles.

Conclusion

The current bibliometric analysis demonstrated the significant growth of the use of artificial intelligence for COVID-19. Using these results, research priorities are more clearly defined, and researchers can focus on hot topics.

Knowledge mapping visualization of the pulmonary ground-glass opacity published in the web of science

Objectives

With low-dose computed tomography(CT) lung cancer screening, many studies with an increasing number of patients with ground-glass opacity (GGO) are published. Hence, the present study aimed to analyze the published studies on GGO using bibliometric analysis. The findings could provide a basis for future research in GGO and for understanding past advances and trends in the field.

Methods

Published studies on GGO were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection. A bibliometric analysis was conducted using the R package and VOSviewer for countries, institutions, journals, authors, keywords, and articles relevant to GGO. In addition, a bibliometric map was created to visualize the relationship.

Results

The number of publications on GGO has been increasing since 2011. China is ranked as the most prolific country; however, Japan has the highest number of citations for its published articles. Seoul National University and Professor Jin Mo Goo from Korea had the highest publications. Most top 10 journals specialized in the field of lung diseases. Radiology is a comprehensive journal with the greatest number of citations and highest H-index than other journals. Using bibliometric analysis, research topics on "prognosis and diagnosis," "artificial intelligence," "treatment," "preoperative positioning and minimally invasive surgery," and "pathology of GGO" were identified. Artificial intelligence diagnosis and minimally invasive treatment may be the future of GGO. In addition, most top 10 literatures in this field were guidelines for lung cancer and pulmonary nodules.

Conclusions

The publication volume of GGO has increased rapidly. The top three countries with the highest number of published articles were China, Japan, and the United States. Japan had the most significant number of citations for published articles. Most key journals specialized in the field of lung diseases. Artificial intelligence diagnosis and minimally invasive treatment may be the future of GGO.

Bibliometric analysis of global research trends on small-cell lung cancer (2012–2021)

Background

Small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) is a recalcitrant tumor with a poor prognosis. With the rise of SCLC research in the past decade, this study aims to analyze the foundation and frontiers of SCLC research through bibliometric analysis.

Methods

Relevant publications from the Web of Science Core Collection were retrieved on January 3, 2022. R package bibliometrix and EXCEL2019 were used to analyze quantitative variables. Bibliometric mapping was constructed by VOS viewer and CiteSpace software to visualize citation, co-authorship, co-occurrence, and co-citation analysis of countries/regions, organizations, authors, references, and keywords.

Results

A total of 2,361 publications related to SCLC were identified with the total amount of articles steadily increasing, where China is the most productive country with 859 papers. Scholars and organizations from the United States, China, and Europe are primary sources of this research, among which the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center made the most contribution to the field with 122 papers. Lung Cancer published the highest number of SCLC-related articles with a total of 121, while the Journal of Thoracic Oncology received the most citations totaling 3,098. Rudin, Charles M., and Sage, Julien are the most creative author. Leora, Horn, 2018, New Engl J Med and Rudin, Charles M., Nat Genet, 2012 can be categorized as classic literature owing to their high citations or strong sigma value. “Heterogeneity & Subtypes” and “Immunotherapy” may be the new frontiers in the SCLC domain.

Conclusion

Research on SCLC showed an upward trend based on the current global situation. Moreover, the current scope of collaboration in SCLC research is chiefly regional, which should further focus on transnational cooperation in the future. More attention should be devoted to “Heterogeneity & Subtypes” and “Immunotherapy”, which will be the hotspots in future research.

The top 100 most cited articles on triple-negative breast cancer: a bibliometric analysis

Breast cancer is the most frequent cause of death from cancer in 12 regions of the world. Among the breast cancer subtypes, triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is the most aggressive, leading to an adverse prognosis. Thus, we aimed to identify the top 100 most cited articles regarding TNBC through bibliometric analyses, to explore their current impact and publication status. We searched TNBC-related articles from the Web of Science core database on September 19, 2021, and ranked them by citation in descending order. Information extracted from the top 100 most cited articles, included title, author, institution, country, year, publication, Journal Cited Rank, citation, Web of Science category, were extracted by two researchers independently. VOSviewer was used to analyze data, such as co-authoring institutions, and author cooperation. Descriptive statistical analysis of data was performed using Excel. Citations from the top 100 most cited articles ranged from 225 to 2753, and all were published after 2007. The top 100 most cited articles were published in 38 journals, with the Journal of Clinical Oncology published the most (n = 15), followed by Clinical Cancer Research (n = 11), Lancet Oncology(n = 6). Eric P. Winer from USA, who participated 12 articles, was the most frequently published author. The USA (n = 71) was the country with the most contributions to TNBC. The most prevalent topics included: clinical features, molecular subtypes, relevant influencing factors, exploration of treatment options and prognosis of TNBC. The leading institution was the Dana Farber Cancer Institute (n = 20) from the USA. This is the first bibliometric analysis on the TNBC 100 most cited article. We provided insights into the most cited articles on TNBC and listed a detailed description of their characteristics and trend, which provides ideas for further study.
