Abstract
Remote longitudinal studies are on the rise and promise to increase reach and reduce participation barriers in chronic disease research. However, maintaining long-term retention in these studies remains challenging. Early identification of participants with different patterns of long-term retention offers the opportunity for tailored survey adaptations. Using data from the online arm of the Swiss Multiple Sclerosis Registry (SMSR), we assessed sociodemographic, health-related, and daily-life related baseline variables against measures of long-term retention in the follow-up surveys through multivariable logistic regressions and unsupervised clustering analyses. We further explored follow-up survey completion measures against survey requirements to inform future survey designs. Our analysis included data from 1,757 participants who completed a median of 4 (IQR 2-8) follow-up surveys after baseline with a maximum of 13 possible surveys. Survey start year, age, citizenship, MS type, symptom burden and independent driving were significant predictors of long-term retention at baseline. Three clusters of participants emerged, with no differences in long-term retention outcomes revealed across the clusters. Exploratory assessments of follow-up surveys suggest possible trends in increased survey complexity with lower rates of survey completion. Our findings offer insights into characteristics associated with long-term retention in remote longitudinal studies, yet they also highlight the possible influence of various unexplored factors on retention outcomes. Future studies should incorporate additional objective measures that reflect participants' individual contexts to understand their ability to remain engaged long-term and inform survey adaptations accordingly.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Multiple sclerosis (MS) causes sleep disturbances in up to 70 % of individuals. These problems are linked to fatigue, mood and cognitive performance, thereby affecting the quality of life in people with MS (PwMS). The frequent and debilitating side effects of sleep medications prompt the exploration of alternative therapies. Physical activity has shown benefits in improving sleep, reducing fatigue, and enhancing quality of life. Combined with a controlled exercise program tailored for PwMS, the study aims to analyze the impact of moderate physical exercise on sleep quality, cognitive function, quality of life, mood, and fatigue. METHODS A single-center prospective cohort study was designed to assess the impact of a 12-week physical exercise program on patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. Changes in sleep and activity parameters are evaluated using an actigraph and cognitive, quality of life, fatigue and mood changes are assessed through specific questionnaires before, during, and after the exercise program application. RESULTS 23 patients completed the study (women = 84.6 %) Mean age was 37.2 years (SD 7.5). The mean EDSS score was 1.9, and 80.8 % were diagnosed within the last six years. Significant improvements were noted in sleep efficiency between baseline and final measurements (χ2 = 27.5; p.adj = 0.004), sleep latency (χ2 = 275; p.adj = 0.000), sleep duration (χ2 = 251; p.adj = 0.001) and in the number of awakenings (χ2 = 269.5; p.adj = 0.000), with a decreased in total time in bed from 8.5 h to 7.35 h post-intervention. Regarding activity variables, an increase in caloric expenditure and an increase in the time participants engaged in light activity were observed. We found significant improvements in fatigue, quality of life and mood. Concerning neuropsychological exploration results, improvements were observed in all studied parameters, with statistically significant improvement in Verbal SRT (χ2 = 43; p = 0.022). CONCLUSION Our study showed a positive impact of a 12-week physical exercise program on sleep performance, cognition and mood in PwMS. The observed improvements underscore the potential of tailored exercise interventions in promoting a more comprehensive and holistic care paradigm for PwMS.

Abstract
STUDY OBJECTIVES This study aims to explore the polysomnographically measured sleep differences between patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and healthy control patients. METHODS An electronic literature search was conducted in EMBASE, MEDLINE, all EBM databases, CINAHL, and PsycINFO from inception to March 2022. A random-effects model was applied to explore the pooled effect sizes of polysomnographic differences between patients with MS and control patients. RESULTS Thirteen studies were identified for meta-analysis. The meta-analyses revealed significant reductions in stage N2 sleep and sleep efficiency and increases in wake time after sleep onset, the periodic limb movement index, and the periodic limb movement arousal index in patients with MS compared with control patients. Meta-regression analyses showed that some of the heterogeneity was explained by age and daytime sleepiness of patients with MS. CONCLUSIONS Our study showed that polysomnographic abnormalities are present in MS. Our findings also underscore the need for a comprehensive polysomnographic assessment of sleep changes in patients with MS. Furthermore, the effects of age and daytime sleepiness in patients with MS on sleep changes should also be carefully considered and closely monitored in the management of MS. Abstract
OBJECTIVE/BACKGROUND The present study examined the associations among physical activity during different times of the day(i.e., morning, midday,evening) and days of the week(i.e., weekdays, weekend days) with restless legs syndrome(RLS) severity and sleep quality in adults with multiple sclerosis(MS). PATIENTS/METHODS Participants(N = 39) completed the International Restless Legs Syndrome Study Group Scale and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index as measures of RLS severity and global sleep quality, respectively, and wore an ActiGraph GT3X + on the non-dominant hip for seven days for measuring physical activity(i.e., light physical activity[LPA], moderate-to-vigorous physical activity[MVPA], and steps). RESULTS There was a significant effect of time of day wherein participants had more midday activity compared with morning or evening for LPA, MVPA, and steps; there was no effect of day of the week. Spearman's rho correlations across the week indicated higher evening LPA, evening steps, and overall daily steps (ρ = -0.42,ρ = -0.51,ρ = -0.40,respectively) were associated with lower RLS severity. Similar associations were demonstrated for weekdays(ρ = -0.39,ρ = -0.50,ρ = -0.41,respectively) and weekend days(ρ = -0.44,ρ = -0.51,ρ = -0.39,respectively). Higher evening MVPA on weekend days(ρ = -0.42) was associated with lower RLS severity. Higher morning and overall daily LPA(ρ = 0.34,ρ = 0.33,respecitvely) were associated with worse sleep quality. Similar associations were demonstrated on weekdays(ρ = 0.33,ρ = 0.37,respectively) and more evening MVPA(ρ = 0.32) was associated with worse sleep quality. On weekend days, more morning MVPA(ρ = 0.42) was associated with worse sleep quality. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest that undertaking physical activity, particularly LPA and steps, in evenings may be important for managing symptoms of RLS without worsening sleep quality.

Abstract
Considerable evidence supports that cytokines are important mediators of pathophysiologic processes within the central nervous system (CNS). Numerous studies have documented the increased production of various cytokines in the human CNS in various neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders. Deciphering cytokine actions in the intact CNS has important implications for our understanding of the pathogenesis and treatment of these disorders. The purpose of this study is to discuss the recent research on treating cytokine storm and amyloids, including stroke, Parkinson's disease (PD), Alzheimer's disease (AD), Huntington's condition, Multi-sclerosis (MS), Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Neuroinflammation observed in neurological disorders has a pivotal role in exacerbating Aβ burden and tau hyperphosphorylation, suggesting that stimulating cytokines in response to an undesirable external response could be a checkpoint for treating neurological disorders. Furthermore, the pro-inflammatory cytokines help our immune system through a neuroprotective mechanism in clearing viral infection by recruiting mononuclear cells. This study reveals that cytokine applications may play a vital role in providing novel regulation and methods for the therapeutic approach to neurological disorders and the causes of the deregulation, which is responsible for neuroinflammation and viral infection. However, it needs to be further investigated to clarify better the mechanisms of cytokine release in response to various stimuli, which could be the central point for treating neurological disorders.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES To define the boundaries and the overlaps between fatigue, sleepiness and depression in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) by using different tools for each dimension, including instrumental sleep analysis. METHODS In this cross-sectional, observational study, 71 MS patients (males/females: 20/51; mean age: 48.9 ± 10.5 years) filled in clinical questionnaires and performed polysomnography followed by maintenance of wakefulness test (MWT). Frequency and reciprocal overlap of sleepiness, fatigue and depression in MS were expressed by Eulero-Venn diagrams; standard multiple regression was used to assess the ability of symptoms to predict each other. RESULTS There was a high percentage of fatigued (70%), somnolent (45%) and depressed (27%) patients. Fatigue had the strongest overlap and correlated with both depression (beta: 0.52, p < 0.001) and sleepiness (beta: 0.74, p < 0.001). Somnolence and depression were nearly always accompanied by fatigue and were well differentiated from each other by MWT. Four MS subgroups were identified that had: (1) fatigue only; (2) fatigue and sleepiness (3) fatigue and depression; (4) fatigue, sleepiness and depression. DISCUSSION The subjective and objective tools are not able to clearly distinguish fatigue from sleepiness and depression, while only a test of vigilance can be helpful in separating somnolence and depression from each other.

INTRODUCTION Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a disorder characterised by an irresistible urge to move the legs, usually accompanied by unpleasant sensations. It is more frequent in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) than in the general population. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the prevalence of RLS, defined according to the 4 essential requirements included in the diagnostic criteria proposed by the International Restless Leg Syndrome Study Group, in a cohort of patients with MS; and to identify potential risk factors and the clinical impact of RLS. RESULTS The sample included 120 patients with MS, with a mean age of symptom onset of 40 years and an average disease duration of 46 months. The prevalence rate of RLS was 23.3%. MS progression time was significantly shorter in patients with RLS (P=.001). A recent relapse, and symptoms of anxiety, depression, and neuropathic pain were significantly associated with risk of RLS (P=.001, P<.001, P<.001, and P=.001, respectively). In addition, patients with RLS had a greater risk of poor sleep quality, fatigue, daytime sleepiness, and poor quality of life than those without RLS (P=.002, P=.017, P=.013, and P=.009, respectively). CONCLUSIONS RLS should be considered in the neurological evaluation of patients with MS; early diagnosis and treatment would improve the quality of life of patients with MS presenting RLS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although sleep disturbances are common among people with Multiple Sclerosis (PwMS), understanding of their impact has been stymied by limitations in approaches to sleep measurement within this population. The aim of this study was to comprehensively phenotype sleep patterns in PwMS through application of an emerging seven-domain framework that includes sleep duration, continuity, timing, quality, rhythmicity, regularity, and sleepiness. METHODS Sleep domains were estimated from wrist-worn accelerometry, Epworth Sleepiness Scale and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index responses. Extreme sleep values within each domain were constructed using previously published guidelines. A composite score of extreme values was calculated for each participant. Associations between sleep domains and severity of MS symptoms were explored (pain, fatigue, depressive symptoms, and cognitive dysfunction). RESULTS Among n = 49 participants, median total sleep time was 456.3 min. Median time spent awake after sleep onset was 37 min. Sleepiness, abnormal sleep timing, and poor sleep quality affected 33%, 35%, and 45% of participants, respectively. Seventy-six percent had ≥2 sleep domains in extreme ranges. PwMS had longer sleep duration and decreased sleep regularity compared to a non-MS historical cohort of older men. Greater daytime sleepiness, poorer sleep quality, and higher composite sleep health score were associated with more depressive symptoms, and lower sleep rhythmicity was associated with higher fatigue. Associations were observed between measures of cognitive function and sleep fragmentation, duration, quality, rhythmicity, and composite score. CONCLUSION Application of a seven-domain sleep health framework that captures the dynamic and multifaceted aspects of sleep is feasible in PwMS, and offers potential for an improved understanding of the scope and impact of sleep disturbances in PwMS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Depression, fatigue, and pain commonly co-occur in multiple sclerosis (MS) and are positively associated with one another. However, it is unclear whether treatment-related improvement in one of these symptoms is associated with improvements in the other two symptoms. PURPOSE This study examined whether early improvements in depressive symptoms, fatigue impact, and pain interference during a multisymptom intervention in persons with MS were associated with overall improvements in the other two symptoms. METHODS Secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial in which both treatments improved depressive symptoms, fatigue, and pain interference. Adults with MS experiencing chronic pain, chronic fatigue, and/or moderate depressive symptoms (N = 154, 86% women) participated in an 8-week, telephone-delivered intervention: self-management (n = 69) or education (n = 85); intervention groups were combined for the current study. Outcome measures were depressive symptoms (PHQ-9), fatigue impact (Modified Fatigue Impact Scale), and pain interference (Brief Pain Inventory). Path analysis examined associations between pre-to-mid intervention improvement in one symptom (i.e., depression, fatigue, pain interference) and pre-to-post (overall) improvement in the other two symptoms. RESULTS Early reduction in depressive symptoms was associated with an overall reduction in pain interference and fatigue impact (p's < .01). Early reduction in fatigue impact was associated with an overall reduction in depressive symptom severity (p = .04) but not pain interference. Early reduction in pain interference was not associated with reductions in fatigue impact or depressive symptoms. CONCLUSIONS These findings suggest the potential importance of reducing depressive symptoms to overall improvement in fatigue and pain interference in persons with MS. Abstract
BACKGROUND This study examined a comprehensive set of demographic, clinical, and symptomatic variables as correlates of subjective sleep quality in adults with multiple sclerosis (MS). METHODS Participants with MS(N=485) completed the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI), a demographics and clinical characteristics questionnaire, the Patient Determined Disease Steps Scale(PDDS), the Fatigue Severity Scale, and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. We conducted bivariate Spearman's rho (ρ) correlation analyses and multiple linear regression analysis for identifying variables associated with PSQI scores. RESULTS Participants had a mean (standard deviation) age of 55.4 (12.6) years and were mostly female (78%) with a median [interquartile range] PDDS of 2.0[3.0]. Higher levels of fatigue (ρ=0.32), more symptoms of anxiety (ρ=0.39) and depression (ρ=0.36), younger age (ρ=-0.12), lower income status (ρ=-0.13), shorter MS disease duration (ρ=-0.11), being in a minority group (ρ=0.09), and being unemployed (ρ=-0.10) were associated with worse sleep quality. There were no significant associations between gender, marital status, parental status, education level, disability status, or MS disease type and sleep quality. The overall regression model accounted for 26.3% of variance in sleep quality (F[8,229.8]=20.25) and there were significant coefficients for anxiety(β=0.25), fatigue(β=0.18), depression(β=0.16), and employment status(β=-0.12), but not disease duration, age, race, or income level. DISCUSSION Participants with higher levels of anxiety, fatigue, and depression and who were unemployed reported worse sleep quality in our sample of adults with MS. These results may identify specific subgroups of the MS population that experience more sleep problems, and therefore are in greatest need for interventions designed to improve sleep impairment.

Abstract
ОBJECTIVE: Sleep disturbances and fatigue are frequent symptoms in multiple sclerosis patients. The aim was to assess the quality of sleep (QoS) and fatigue in patients with the relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS), during the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. METHODS The study included 67 patients with RRMS and 85 healthy control subjects. RRMS patients, who were tested in first half of 2019, were retested in April and May 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic. We collected sociodemographic and clinical data, and also used the following questionnaires: Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), and Multiple Sclerosis Quality of Life-54 Instrument (MSQOL-54). RESULTS The FSS score and PSQI global score were significantly higher in patients with RRMS than in the control group (p < 0.01). We noticed a statistically significant difference between the results obtained a year ago and the results during the COVID-19 pandemic in PSQI global score (p < 0.01) and all subscores. Higher disability status was an independent predictor of the worse PSQI scores. CONCLUSION During the COVID-19 outbreak worse QoS were noticed in RRMS patients than in healthy individuals. Also, QoS of RRMS patients is more affected during the COVID-19 pandemic than in regular circumstances. High levels of sleep disturbance and fatigue in RRMS patients correlates with worse life quality, female gender, lower educational level and partner status. The results of the present study provide evidence in support of regular screening and monitoring of fatigue and QoS in this patient population, especially during the pandemic states.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In persons with multiple sclerosis (MS), physical activity favorably impacts on psychological well-being. The aims of the present study were to investigate the influence of physical activity on depression, fatigue, sleep, paresthesia, and personality traits (intolerance of uncertainty), and to explore, if endurance training or coordinative training are superior to an active control condition. METHODS 92 female individuals with MS (mean age: 37.36 years; mean EDSS: 2.43) took part in this intervention study. Participants were randomly assigned either to endurance training, coordinative training, or to an active control condition. At baseline, 4 weeks, and 8 weeks later at the end of the study, participants completed questionnaires on sleep, depression, fatigue, paresthesia and intolerance of uncertainty. Exercise training interventions took place three times/week for 45 min/session. Participants in the active control condition also met with the same duration and frequency. RESULTS Sleep complaints and symptoms of depression decreased over time, but more so in the exercising groups, compared to the active control group. No changes over time and between groups were observed for fatigue, paresthesia, and intolerance of uncertainty. CONCLUSIONS Both endurance and coordinative exercising had the potential to favorably impact on some aspects of cognitive-emotional processing, while also an active control condition appeared to have a positive impact.

Abstract
Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) patients suffer from various difficulties including sleep complaints, symptoms of depression and fatigue, paresthesia, and cognitive impairments. There is growing evidence that regular physical activity has a positive effect on both sleep and psychological functioning, though there is limited evidence of this kind for MS patients. The aim of the present study was therefore to investigate the impact on this patient group of a regular exercise program with respect to subjective and objective sleep, depression, paresthesia, fatigue, and cognitive performance. Methods: A total of 46 patients [mean age: 50.74 years; Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS): mean: 5.3, 78.4% females] completed this 3-week intervention study. At baseline and 3 weeks later, they answered questionnaires covering sociodemographic information, subjective sleep, depression, fatigue, paresthesia, and subjective physical activity. Objective sleep [sleep electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings] and cognitive performance were also assessed at both time points. Patients participated in a regular exercise activity every weekday for about 60 min. Results: Compared to the baseline, by the end of the study, objective sleep had significantly improved (sleep efficiency, sleep onset latency, and wake time after sleep onset), and symptoms of sleep complaints, depression, fatigue, and paresthesia were significantly reduced. Subjective physical activity (moderate and vigorous) and cognitive performance also increased over the course of the intervention. Conclusions: In patients with MS, participation in regular exercise impacted positively on their objective and subjective sleep, depression, paresthesia, fatigue, and cognitive performance.

Abstract
Fatigue management interventions for individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS) often feature structured programmes requiring repeated, in-person attendance that is not possible for all individuals. We sought to determine whether MS INFoRm, a self-directed fatigue management resource for individuals with MS, was worth further, more rigorous evaluation. Our indicators of worthiness were actual use of the resource by participants over 3 months, reductions in fatigue impact and increases in self-efficacy, and participant reports of changes in fatigue management knowledge and behaviours. This was a single-group, mixed-methods, before-after pilot study in individuals with MS reporting mild to moderate fatigue. Thirty-five participants were provided with MS INFoRm by a USB flash drive to use at home for 3 months, on their own volition. Twenty-three participants completed all standardized questionnaires, semi-structured interviews and study process measures. Participants reported actively using MS INFoRm over the 3-month study period (median total time spent using MS INFoRm=315 min) as well as significantly lower overall fatigue impact (Modified Fatigue Impact Scale: t=2.6, P=0.01), increased knowledge of MS fatigue (z=-2.8, P=0.01) and greater confidence in managing MS fatigue (z=-3.3, P=0.001). Individuals with significant reductions in fatigue impact also reported behavioural changes including tracking fatigue, better communication with others, greater awareness, improved quality of life and being more proactive. This study provides evidence that further rigorous evaluation of MS INFoRm, a self-directed resource for managing fatigue, is worth pursuing.

Abstract
We aimed to understand participants' experiences with a self-guided fatigue management resource, Multiple Sclerosis: An Interactive Fatigue Management Resource ( MS INFoRm), and the extent to which they found its contents relevant and useful to their daily lives. We recruited 35 persons with MS experiencing mild to moderate fatigue, provided them with MS INFoRm, and then conducted semistructured interviews 3 weeks and 3 months after they received the resource. Interpretive description guided the analysis process. Findings indicate that participants' experience of using MS INFoRm could be understood as a process of change, influenced by their initial reactions to the resource. They reported experiencing a shift in knowledge, expectations, and behaviors with respect to fatigue self-management. These shifts led to multiple positive outcomes, including increased levels of self-confidence and improved quality of life. These findings suggest that MS INFoRm may have a place in the continuum of fatigue management interventions for people with MS.

Abstract
Poor sleep is a serious burden for patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). The aim of this study is to assess whether the association between sleep quality and disability in MS patients is direct or mediated by depression, pain, and fatigue. We collected data from 152 patients with MS who filled out the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, the Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory and one item of the Short Form-36 regarding pain. The relationship between poor sleep and disability was found to be indirect, mediated by depression (p < 0.05), pain (p < 0.001) and physical fatigue (p < 0.01). Treatment of sleep disturbances may have beneficial effects beyond improving sleep. It may reduce depression, pain, and physical fatigue, which in turn may lessen disability.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW The present review summarizes recent research on the association between sleep disturbance and cognitive dysfunction in MS. Assessment methodology, domain-specific associations between sleep disturbance and cognitive dysfunction, and implications for future research and treatment are discussed. RECENT FINDINGS All 12 studies included in this review found significant associations between sleep disturbance and cognitive dysfunction; however, results varied considerably depending on the assessment method used and the cognitive domain assessed. Self-reported sleep disturbance generally predicted self-report but not objective measures of cognitive dysfunction. Objective sleep measures (e.g., polysomnography, actigraphy) generally predicted objective impairments in processing speed and attention; however, objective sleep disturbance was more variable in predicting performance in other cognitive domains (e.g., memory, executive function). Sleep disturbance may help predict future cognitive decline in MS. Results highlight the need to integrate sleep assessment into routine MS care. Interventions aimed treating sleep disturbance may offer promise for improving cognitive dysfunction in MS.

Abstract
Sleep problems are highly prevalent among individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS); however, the relationship between sleep problems and cognitive dysfunction is poorly understood in this population. In the present study, 163 individuals with MS and depression, fatigue, or pain completed self-report measures of sleep, cognitive dysfunction, and relevant demographic and clinical characteristics (e.g., disability severity, depressive symptomatology, pain intensity, fatigue impact) at four time points over 12 months. Mixed-effects regression demonstrated that poorer sleep was independently associated with worse perceived cognitive dysfunction (β = -0.05, p = .001), beyond the influence of depressive symptomatology. Fatigue impact was found to partially mediate this relationship. Results suggest that for individuals with MS and depression, fatigue, or pain, self-reported sleep problems are related to perceived cognitive dysfunction, and that fatigue impact accounts for part of this relationship.

Abstract
Poor sleep contributes to adverse health outcomes making it important to understand sleep in medically vulnerable populations, including those with spinal cord injury (SCI). However, little attention has been paid to circumstances specific to SCI that may negatively affect sleep, or to consequences of poor sleep in this population. The objective of this study was to examine the experience of sleep among individuals with SCI. Secondary analysis using thematic coding of qualitative data from an ethnographic study of community-dwelling adults with SCI was conducted. Sleep-related data were found in transcripts for 90% of the sample. Participants described diminished sleep duration and irregular sleep patterns. Several factors contributing to poor sleep were identified, including SCI-related circumstances and sleep environment. Participants also discussed how poor sleep affected occupational engagement. This study highlights the extent of sleep disturbance experienced after SCI and the subsequent impact on occupational performance, and provides direction for clinical practice.

Abstract
The autoimmune disease multiple sclerosis (MS) is characterized by relapses in the majority of patients. A definitive clinical diagnosis of relapse in MS can be complicated by the presence of an infection or comorbid disorder. In this mini-review, we describe efforts to develop enhanced imaging techniques and biomarker detection as future tools for relapse validation. There is emerging evidence of roles for meningeal inflammation, sex hormones, comorbid metabolic or mood disorders, and a dysregulated immune profile in the manifestation and severity of relapse. Specific subsets of immune cells likely drive the pathophysiology of relapse, and identification of a patient's unique immunological signature of relapse may help guide future diagnosis and treatment. Finally, these studies highlight the diversity in terms of relapse presentation, immunological signature, and response in patients with MS, indicating that going forward the best approach to assessment and treatment of relapse will be multifactorial and highly personalized.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Pain is a significant problem for many individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS). Pain is often associated with other MS symptoms (eg, physical, sensorimotor, cognitive declines), and both pain and MS symptoms are hypothesized to contribute to psychosocial problems (eg, depression), other symptoms (eg, fatigue, sleep disturbance), and functional impairments (eg, pain interference). On the basis of a biopsychosocial model, we sought to: (1) examine the associations between pain, MS symptoms, depression, psychosocial, and functional variables and (2) identify possible risk and protective factors associated with pain in MS. MATERIALS AND METHODS A cross-sectional survey was completed by 424 individuals with MS. Pain, MS symptoms, demographics, MS diagnostic factors, and psychosocial and functional variables were assessed. Data were analyzed by structural equation models. RESULTS Participants were predominantly white (92%), middle-aged (mean=50.7 y), and female (80%). Results indicated that pain severity and depression accounted for >50% of the variance in pain interference. Although pain contributed minimally to fatigue and sleep quality, depression and MS symptoms predicted 49% of the variance in fatigue, and depression was largely responsible for the 40% of predicted variance in sleep quality. Identified risk factors for pain were low educational attainment and lack of a committed/marital relationship, even while controlling for diagnostic and other key demographic variables. DISCUSSION Results highlight the importance of targeting interventions toward improving coping skills and social support within the context of pain and MS. Research is needed to determine whether effectively targeting depression in MS results in improvements of other critical psychosocial and physical functioning domains.

Abstract
STUDY OBJECTIVES Sleep problems are common in spinal cord injury (SCI) and multiple sclerosis (MS). However, the degree to which sleep problems differ between these distinct clinical populations has not been evaluated. In this study, we examined self-reported sleep problems in individuals with SCI and those with MS, and compared these clinical groups on the Medical Outcomes Study Sleep Scale (MOS-SS). METHODS Participants were 1,677 individuals (SCI = 581; MS = 1,096) enrolled in longitudinal study of self-reported health outcomes in SCI and MS. Univariate and multivariate analysis of covariance examined group differences on global sleep problems and domain-specific subscales of the MOS-SS. RESULTS Individuals with SCI reported an average of 30 fewer min of sleep per night (Sleep Quantity subscale) and significantly greater difficulty initiating and maintaining sleep (Sleep Disturbance subscale) compared to individuals with MS. However, groups did not differ on global sleep problems (Sleep Problems Index 9). CONCLUSIONS Although global sleep problems are more common in SCI and MS than in the general population, these groups exhibit differing sleep problem profiles, and thus may require unique treatment approaches to address the specific domains of sleep affected. For individuals with SCI, an additional focus on increasing sleep quantity and reducing sleep disruptions may be warranted.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sleep may be disrupted in Multiple Sclerosis (MS), but the prevalence of chronic insomnia disorder (CID) using standard diagnostic criteria is unknown. OBJECTIVES To determine the prevalence of CID in an MS population, the frequency of CID subtypes, associated factors and impact on quality of life (QoL). METHODS Multicentre, hospital-based cross-sectional study. An adapted version of the Brief Insomnia Questionnaire was applied to a consecutively recruited MS population. The influence of demographic, MS-related features, fatigue, medical and psychiatric comorbidities, nocturnal symptoms, other sleep disorders, dysfunctional beliefs about sleep in CID was evaluated. The relation between CID and QoL was analysed. RESULTS Of 206 MS patients, 22.3% fulfilled criteria for CID, with initial insomnia in 11.7%, maintenance insomnia in 11.2% and terminal insomnia in 10.2% of patients. CID was more frequent in female patients, those with nocturnal symptoms, medical comorbidities, higher levels of anxiety, depression and fatigue. Multivariable analysis identified female sex, medical comorbidities, anxiety and fatigue as independent factors for CID. CID patients had a significantly lower self-reported QoL. CONCLUSIONS CID is prevalent in MS patients and associated with psychiatric and medical comorbidities, as well as fatigue. It has a negative impact on QoL.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate self-report measures of sleep disturbances and sleep-related impairments in samples of individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS) or spinal cord injury (SCI). DESIGN Cross-sectional survey. SETTING Community based. PARTICIPANTS Adults (age ≥18y) (N=700) with either MS (n=461) or SCI (n=239) who were enrolled in a longitudinal survey of self-reported health outcomes and who completed self-report sleep measures at 1 time point. INTERVENTIONS None. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Medical Outcomes Study Sleep Scale (MOS-S), Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) sleep disturbance short form, and PROMIS sleep-related impairments short form. RESULTS Mean scores on the MOS-S sleep index II were significantly worse for both the MS and SCI samples than those of previously reported samples representative of the U.S. general population (P<.0001 for each group). The PROMIS sleep disturbance short form and PROMIS sleep-related impairments short form scores of the MS sample were also significantly different from those reported for the calibration cohort (P<.0001 on each scale). However, although the scores of the SCI sample were significantly different from those of the comparison cohort for the PROMIS sleep-related impairments short form (P=.045), the differences on the PROMIS sleep disturbance short form were not significant (P=.069). CONCLUSIONS Although the MOS-S scores for the MS and SCI cohorts clearly indicated significantly high levels of sleep-related problems and were consistent with existing literature, the more ambiguous findings from the PROMIS sleep disturbance short form and PROMIS sleep-related impairments short form suggest that not enough is currently known about how these instruments function when applied to those with chronic neurologic dysfunction.

Abstract
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the leading cause of neurological disability in young adults. Since the pathophysiology of MS is characterized by dissemination in space, as well as in time, the autonomic nervous system is inevitably damaged in the course of the disease in many patients and the proportion of affected patients increases with disease duration. Autonomic dysfunction (AD) in MS is explained by lesions in regions responsible for autonomic regulation such as nuclei in the periventricular region of fourth ventricle in the brainstem as well as medullar lesions. Reports about frequency of AD in MS patients vary notably between groups. Nevertheless its impact on quality of life is substantial but, unfortunately, often overlooked. The aim of this article is to present a concise review of various symptoms and signs of autonomic system dysfunction in MS.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study evaluated psychometric properties of the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale-10 (CESD-10), and the 8-item PROMIS Depression Short Form (PROMIS-D-8; 8b short form) in a sample of individuals living with multiple sclerosis (MS). RESEARCH METHOD Data were collected by a self-reported mailed survey of a community sample of people living with MS (n = 455). Factor structure, interitem reliability, convergent/discriminant validity and assignment to categories of depression severity were examined. RESULTS A 1-factor, confirmatory factor analytic model had adequate fit for all instruments. Scores on the depression scales were more highly correlated with one another than with scores on measures of pain, sleep disturbance, and fatigue. The CESD-10 categorized about 37% of participants as having significant depressive symptoms. At least moderate depression was indicated for 24% of participants by PHQ-9. PROMIS-D-8 identified 19% of participants as having at least moderate depressive symptoms and about 7% having at least moderately severe depression. None of the examined scales had ceiling effects, but the PROMIS-D-8 had a floor effect. CONCLUSIONS Overall, scores on all 3 scales demonstrated essential unidimensionality and had acceptable interitem reliability and convergent/discriminant validity. Researchers and clinicians can choose any of these scales to measure depressive symptoms in individuals living with MS. The PHQ-9 offers validated cutoff scores for diagnosing clinical depression. The PROMIS-D-8 measure minimizes the impact of somatic features on the assessment of depression and allows for flexible administration, including Computerize Adaptive Testing (CAT). The CESD-10 measures 2 aspects of depression, depressed mood and lack of positive affect, while still providing an interpretable total score.

Abstract
People with multiple sclerosis (MS) must manage the day-to-day effects of the disease on their lives. Self-management interventions may be helpful in this challenge. An international, multidisciplinary consensus conference was held on November 15, 2010, by the University of Washington's Rehabilitation Research and Training Center for Multiple Sclerosis (MS RRTC), with funding from the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (CMSC) and the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), to discuss the concept of self-management for people with MS. The specific goals of the consensus conference were as follows: 1) review the current research on self-management and related issues in chronic disability and specifically in MS; 2) review optimal research methodologies, outcome measurement tools, program planning frameworks, and dissemination strategies for self-management research; and 3) establish recommendations on the next steps necessary to develop, adapt, and test self-management interventions for people with MS. The consensus conference and this document are the initial steps toward achieving the stated goals. Participants in the consensus conference concluded that it is necessary to: 1) define an empirically based conceptual model of self-management for people with MS; 2) establish reliable and valid self-management outcome measures; 3) use best practices to validate models of self-management interventions; and 4) plan dissemination and knowledge translation of interventions once their effectiveness is established.

Abstract
Objective: To observe prevalence of depression and sleep disturbances in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients and their correlation with associated fatigue. Study Design and Setting: Prospective observation study in a university tertiary research hospital in India. Materials and Methods: Thirty-one patients (6 male and 25 female) with definite MS (McDonald's criteria) presented in out-patient/admitted in the department of neurology (between February 2010 and December 2011) were included in the study. Depression was assessed using Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI). Sleep quality was assessed using Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Disease severity was evaluated using the Kurtzke's expanded disability status scale (EDSS). Fatigue was assessed using Krupp's fatigue severity scale (FSS). We tried to observe correlation of depression and sleep disturbance with associated fatigue in MS patients. Results: The age of patients varied between 16 and 50 years (30.1 ± 9.1). The mean age at first symptom was 25.2 ± 6.4 years (range 14-39 years). The prevalence of sleep disturbance and depression was 51.6% (16/31) each and fatigue 58.1% (18/31) in the study group. The PSQI scores were significantly greater in the patients with fatigue as compared with those without fatigue indicating poorer sleep quality is associated with fatigue in MS (P = 0.005). The BDI scores were also significantly higher in the fatigue group showing that severity of depression also strongly correlated with fatigue (P = 0.001). Conclusions: Depression and sleep disturbance in patients with MS is significantly correlated with associated fatigue.

Abstract
Multiple sclerosis continues to present a host of rehabilitation challenges, specifically the impact of secondary "hidden" conditions on quality of life, participation, and employment. To discuss the current state of rehabilitation research and direct future research endeavors, a state of the science conference was held in November 2010 in Alexandria, Virginia. The conference was presented by the University of Washington's Multiple Sclerosis Rehabilitation Research and Training Center and focused on the current state of research into secondary conditions, outcomes measurement, employment, and the utility of psychotherapeutic interventions. This article discusses the details and recommendations of this conference.

Abstract
Patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) experience a myriad of symptoms. There is some evidence that symptoms may co-occur, or happen in particular combinations. Yet most existing studies focus on single symptoms and practitioners make a priori care decisions based on individual symptoms alone. We examined symptom co-occurrences in patients with relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS), collecting qualitative and quantitative data (mixed methods; N = 140). Content analysis revealed fatigue, heat intolerance, numbness, balance problems, and leg weakness as the most common symptoms. Factor analysis revealed the following factors: urinary, problems with balance, vision, heat, depression, and sleep. These preliminary findings indicate co-occurrence of several disabling symptoms from the overall self-report MS-Related Symptom Scale and 3-month recall. This information will guide health care professionals in developing targeted interventions and improve outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The aetiopathogenesis of fatigue in multiple sclerosis (MS) is not clear. It could be associated with structural changes of the central nervous system, but also with mood and sleep disorders. The purpose of the study was to evaluate frequency of fatigue and its association with sleep and mood disorders in MS patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS The examined group consisted of 122 MS patients (mean age 37.7 ± 10.8 years). The following questionnaires were used: Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS), Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS), and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). RESULTS Fatigue was present in 75 MS patients (61.5%). Excessive daytime sleepiness was observed in 25 (20.5%), insomnia in 73 patients (59.8%). According to MADRS, depressive symptoms were present in 33 (27%), according to HADS in 15 people (12.3%). Anxiety was present in 32 patients (26.2%). We observed an association between fatigue (FSS) and sleep disorders (ESS, AIS) and also between fatigue and either depression (MADRS, HADS-D) or anxiety (HADS-A). The FSS score was not associated with age, sex, disease course and duration, Expanded Disability Status Stage (EDSS), treatment or level of education in MS patients. In inactive professionally people we noted significantly higher FSS scores (44.8 ± 13.8) in comparison with active individuals (37.2 ± 14.9; p = 0.0053). CONCLUSIONS Fatigue is a very common symptom in MS, sometimes associated with sleep disorders, depressive symptoms or anxiety. The treatable causes of fatigue in MS such as sleep and mood disturbances should be identified and treated.

Abstract
Background Poor sleep is a frequent symptom in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). Sleep may be influenced by MS-related symptoms and adverse effects from immunotherapy and symptomatic medications. We aimed to study the prevalence of poor sleep and the influence of socio-demographic and clinical factors on sleep quality in MS- patients. Methods A total of 90 MS patients and 108 sex-and age- matched controls were included in a questionnaire survey. Sleep complaints were evaluated by Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and a global PSQI score was used to separate good sleepers (≤5) from poor sleepers (>5). Excessive daytime sleepiness, the use of immunotherapy and antidepressant drugs, symptoms of pain, depression, fatigue and MS-specific health related quality of life were registered. Results were compared between patients and controls and between good and poor sleepers among MS patients. Results MS patients reported a higher mean global PSQI score than controls (8.6 vs. 6.3, p = 0.001), and 67.1% of the MS patients compared to 43.9% of the controls (p = 0.002) were poor sleepers. Pain (p = 0.02), fatigue (p = 0.001), depression (p = 0.01) and female gender (p = 0.04) were associated with sleep disturbance. Multivariate analyses showed that female gender (p = 0.02), use of immunotherapy (p = 005) and a high psychological burden of MS (p = 0.001) were associated with poor sleep among MS patients. Conclusions Poor sleep is common in patients with MS. Early identification and treatment of modifiable risk factors may improve sleep and quality of life in MS.

Abstract
Sleep disturbances constitute one of the important yet underestimated aspects of functioning of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). The objective of this study was to evaluate sleep disturbances in patients with MS, with regard to demographic factors, disease-related variables, co-existing conditions and fatigue. In 100 MS patients, Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) and a questionnaire about sleep disturbances (SlD) were implemented. ESS and SlD results were analyzed with regard to age, gender, duration of MS, type of its course, degree of disability in Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), MS therapies, coexisting diseases, results of Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) and Modified Fatigue Impact Scale (MFIS). ESS score indicated increased daytime sleepiness in 19 patients. In SlD, 49 subjects reported sleep disturbances and 35 more than one of their kind (most commonly terminal and middle insomnia). No relationships were found between ESS and SlD scores and age, gender, MS duration, type of its course, EDSS or coexisting diseases. In 36 patients, somatic complaints interfered with sleep. The patients with depression had significantly lower ESS result and those currently treated with immunomodulation had significantly lower SlD score. SlD score correlated positively with FSS and MFIS. Sleep disturbances in MS patients may occur independently from demographic and disease-related variables, but they are often influenced by the symptoms of MS and therapies used. Sleep disturbances may contribute to fatigue in the course of MS.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE According to the compensation theory, fatigue in MS results from efforts to compensate for a reduction in capacity due to demyelination or neurodegeneration. Recently, it has been argued that fatigue may result from poor sleep. Both explanations predict a worsening of fatigue and a cognitive decline during sustained attention tasks (higher fatigability). METHOD We compared MS patients with and without self-reported cognitive fatigue, in three sessions with a two-back working memory task, registering hits and response latencies as well as changes in fatigue. In the two breaks between the sessions, either a video instruction to relax or a stimulating video was presented. Subsequently, patients were divided into those with and those without self-reported sleep problems and the analyses were repeated. RESULTS Patients with fatigue performed worse than healthy controls, irrespective of task duration and type of video during the break. The task-related increase of fatigue also did not differ between the groups and no differential effect of the videos was observed in the MS patients with fatigue. In contrast, patients with sleep problems did show a performance decline as predicted by the compensation theory. CONCLUSION MS patients with fatigue were impaired in working memory, but did not show greater fatigability, whereas MS participants with self-reported sleep problems showed fatigability, which could be improved with a restorative rest period. Our data therefore do not support the compensation theory of fatigue, and we argue that sleep problems and fatigue in MS patients differ with respect to their functional consequences.

Abstract
Fatigue is the most common and debilitating symptom in multiple sclerosis (MS) and is believed to be distinctly different from fatigue seen in other chronic conditions. It can affect a patient's mood, sleep and have a detrimental effect on their quality of life. In the recent years much literature has emerged in an attempt to elucidate the potential causes and treatment of this common symptom. This review article aims to examine the most recent theories on the pathophysiology of fatigue in MS as well as its association with sleep and depression. We describe the pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches to its treatment and propose a multidisciplinary, patient enabled and individualised manner to the management of fatigue in MS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Depression is common among people with multiple sclerosis (MS), and research shows that individuals, including individuals with MS, who are more physically active report lower rates of depression. However, little is known about the relative importance of level of physical activity (e.g., moderate versus vigorous) in relationship to depression, or the role that age might play in this relationship among people with MS. The current study sought to (1) clarify the associations between moderate and vigorous physical activity and depression in a sample of individuals with MS, (2) determine the associations between age and physical activity, and (3) test for the potential moderating influence of age on the associations between physical activity and depression. OBJECTIVE/HYPOTHESIS Cross-sectional survey. METHODS 112 individuals with MS completed a survey assessing demographic variables, amount of moderate and vigorous physical activity, and depression. RESULTS There was a gradual decrease in the amount of moderate and vigorous physical activity as age increased, but this decrease was not statistically significant. Moderate physical activity was significantly (negatively) associated with depression across all age cohorts. Time spent in vigorous physical activity was significantly (negatively) associated with depression among the middle-aged but not younger or older participants who are physically active. CONCLUSIONS The findings support a link between moderate physical activity and depression and, for middle-aged individuals, vigorous physical activity and depression in persons with MS. The findings indicate that research examining the impact of activity enhancing treatments on depression in individuals with MS is warranted.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To develop a self-efficacy scale for people living with multiple sclerosis (MS) and spinal cord injury (SCI) that can be used across diagnostic conditions. DESIGN The scale was developed using modern psychometric methods including item response theory. Items were administered at 3 time-points of a longitudinal survey of individuals with MS and SCI. SETTING Survey participants with MS were recruited from the National MS Society, and participants with SCI were recruited from the Northwest Regional Spinal Cord Injury Model System and the Shepherd Center at the Virginia Crawford Research Institute in Atlanta, GA. PARTICIPANTS Adults aged 18 years and older reporting a definitive diagnosis of MS (N=473) or SCI (N=253). INTERVENTIONS None. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Evaluation of the new self-efficacy measure called the University of Washington Self-Efficacy Scale (UW-SES) included comparisons with the Chronic Disease Self-Efficacy Scale and other patient-reported outcome measures. RESULTS UW-SES has excellent psychometric properties including well-functioning response categories, no floor effects, and low ceiling effects. A long form (17 items) and a short form (6 items) are available. The correlation between the score on the newly developed scale and the Chronic Disease Self-Efficacy Scale was high (.83), providing support for convergent validity. Higher self-efficacy scores were statistically significantly associated with better mental health, better physical health, less fatigue, less stress, less pain interference, less pain, fewer sleep problems, and lower depressive symptoms. CONCLUSIONS The UW-SES is a psychometrically sound instrument for measuring self-efficacy, validated in MS and SCI, and can be used across both conditions. Both the long form and the short form are available free of charge.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study sought to map the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) and symptom variables onto the EQ-5D. METHODS A cross-sectional survey was conducted among adult US residents with self-reported sleep problems. Respondents provided demographic, comorbidity, and sleep-related information and had completed the ISI and the EQ-5D profile. Respondents were classified into ISI categories indicating no, threshold, moderate, or severe insomnia. Generalized linear models (GLM) were used to map the ISI's 7 items (Model I), summary scores (Model II), clinical categories (Model III), and insomnia symptoms (Model IV), onto the EQ-5D. We used 50% of the sample for estimation and 50% for prediction. Prediction accuracy was assessed by mean squared errors (MSEs) and mean absolute errors (MAEs). RESULTS Mean (standard deviation) sleep duration for respondents (N = 2,842) was 7.8 (1.9) hours, and mean ISI score was 14.1 (4.8). Mean predicted EQ-5D utility was 0.765 (0.08) from Models I-III, which overlapped with observed utilities 0.765 (0.18). Predicted utility using insomnia symptoms was higher (0.771(0.07)). Based on Model I, predicted utilities increased linearly with improving ISI (0.493 if ISI = 28 vs. 1.00 if ISI = 0, p < 0.01). From Model II, each unit decrease in ISI summary score was associated with a 0.022 (p < 0.001) increase in utility. Predicted utilities were 0.868, 0.809, 0.722, and 0.579, respectively, for the 4 clinical categories, suggesting that lower utility was related to greater insomnia severity. The symptom model (Model IV) indicated a concave sleep-duration function of the EQ-5D; thus, utilities diminished after an optimal amount of sleep. The MSEs/MAEs were substantially lower when predicting EQ-5D > 0.40, and results were comparable in all models. CONCLUSIONS Findings suggest that mapping relationships between the EQ-5D and insomnia measures could be established. These relationships may be used to estimate insomnia-related treatment effects on health state utilities.

Abstract
Hypothalamic involvement is a rare condition in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). We report two patients with a long history of MS who presented with severe acute hypothermia with associated thrombocytopenia and elevated transaminase levels. Several cases of hypothermia or hyperthermia in patients with MS have been reported in the literature. They could be linked with hypothalamic lesions, in particular in the pre-optic area. However, other anatomical locations seem to be involved in thermoregulation and can be affected by MS. Besides, some cases of syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion have been reported in patients with MS. Finally, some sleep disorders, particularly hypersomnia or narcolepsy, could be related to hypothalamic lesions, through the fall in hypocretin-1 in the cerebrospinal fluid. Hypocretin-1 is a neuropeptide that is secreted by some hypothalamic cells. It plays a role in the sleep-awake rhythm. We report one patient with narcolepsy and cataplexy before the first symptoms of MS appeared. Hypothalamic signs are rare in MS. However, several series of autopsies have shown a high frequency of demyelinating lesions in the hypothalamic area. Among these lesions, the proportion of active lesions seems elevated. Yet only few of them have a clinical or biological translation such as thermoregulation dysfunction, sleep disorders or natremia abnormalities. Thus, it seems unlikely that inflammatory hypothalamic lesions alone, even when bilateral, could be the explanation of these signs. A sufficient number of inflammatory demyelinating lesions, which we can observe in patients with a long history of MS and an already severe disability, is probably necessary to develop such a rare symptomatology. Hypothalamic signs might be a factor of poor prognosis for the disease course and progression of the disability.

Abstract
PURPOSE To derive from the Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) fatigue item bank, a short form for individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS), the PROMIS-Fatigue(MS). METHODS A panel of 37 clinicians and 46 individuals with MS ranked the relevance of PROMIS fatigue items to persons with MS. Eight items were selected for the PROMIS-Fatigue(MS) that maximized relevance rankings, content coverage, and item discrimination. The PROMIS-Fatigue(MS) and an existing, 7-item PROMIS fatigue short form (PROMIS-Fatigue(SFv1.0)) were administered to a new sample of 231 individuals with MS. Known groups and content validity were assessed. RESULTS Scores from the short forms were highly correlated (r = 0.92). Discriminant validity of the PROMIS-Fatigue(MS) scores was supported in known groups comparisons. Scores of neither short form exhibited an advantage in quantitative analyses. The PROMIS-Fatigue(MS) targeted more of the content included in participants' responses to open-ended questions than did the PROMIS-Fatigue(SFv1.0). CONCLUSIONS The PROMIS-Fatigue(MS) was derived to have content validity in MS samples. The validity of the measure was further supported by the ability of PROMIS-Fatigue(MS) items to discriminate among groups expected to differ in levels of fatigue. We recommend its use in measuring the fatigue of individuals with MS.
