Abstract
BACKGROUND The mechanism linking BMI and asthma remains unclear. METHOD Mendelian Randomization (MR) analysis was conducted using summary-level GWAS data from the FinnGen Biobank and the Open GWAS project. The analysis considering potential variables as mediators, including blood cell counts, blood pressure, and blood biomarkers. Three commonly used MR methods-the inverse-variance-weighted (IVW) method, weighted median (WM) method, and MR-Egger method-were employed to infer causal links. A two-step approach was used in mediation analysis to evaluate the causal links among BMI, candidate mediators, and asthma. RESULT Elevated BMI demonstrated a substantial correlation with increased asthma risk. Thirteen biomarkers mediated the relationship between BMI and asthma, mainly including leukocyte count (5.070%), apolipoprotein A levels (7.395%), cystatin C levels (5.345%), urate levels (9.057%), diastolic blood pressure (7.365%), and albumin levels (10.888%). These factors collectively explained over 50% of the increased asthma risk associated with BMI elevation. Additionally, eosinophil count and C-reactive protein were also identified as important mediators using the WM method. CONCLUSION This study highlights the complex relationship between obesity, blood biomarkers, and asthma risk. Additional studies are required to validate these results and investigate causal relationships in various populations.

Abstract
Background It has been reported recently that the ratio of uric acid to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (UHR) is correlated with several metabolic disorders. The present study aimed to investigate the associations of UHR with body fat content and distribution. Methods This study enrolled 300 participants (58 men and 242 women) aged 18 to 65 years. The levels of serum uric acid and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol were measured by standard enzymatic methods. The overall fat content and segmental fat distribution were assessed with an automatic bioelectrical impedance analyzer. In the population with obesity, the visceral fat area (VFA) and subcutaneous fat area (SFA) were measured using magnetic resonance imaging. Results Among the study population, 219 individuals (73.0%) were with obesity. The median level of UHR in individuals with obesity was 33.7% (26.2% - 45.9%), which was significantly higher than that in those without obesity [22.6% (17.0% - 34.4%), P < 0.01]. UHR was positively associated with overall fat content and segmental fat distribution parameters (all P < 0.01). In multivariate linear regression analysis, compared with body mass index, waist circumference was more closely associated with UHR (standardized β = 0.427, P < 0.001) after adjusting for confounding factors. Additionally, total fat mass (standardized β = 0.225, P = 0.002) and trunk fat mass (standardized β = 0.296, P = 0.036) were more closely linked to UHR than total fat-free mass and leg fat mass, respectively. In the population with obesity, VFA was independently correlated with UHR (P < 0.01), while SFA was not associated with UHR. Conclusion UHR was significantly associated with overall fat content and trunk fat accumulation. In the population with obesity, UHR was positively associated with VFA. Attention should be paid to the role of excessive trunk fat mass in the relationship between UHR and metabolic disorders.

Abstract
Objective To investigated the link between the distribution of abdominal fat and the concentration of serum uric acid (SUA) in individuals recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Methods Studied 364 individuals had been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes within one month, and evaluated factors such as the distribution of fat in the abdomen, indicators related to glucose and lipid metabolism. The participants' SUA concentrations were divided into a normal control group (CG) and a hyperuricemia group (HG). Results The HG group had elevated abdominal subcutaneous fat area (SFA), visceral fat content (VFA), body mass index (BMI), fasting blood glucose (FBG), 2-hour postprandial blood glucose (PBG), glycosylated albumin (GA), serum creatinine (SCr), triacylglycerol (TG), and lower values in glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) when compared to the CG group (P < 0.05). Among the obese individuals, the hyperuricemia subgroup exhibited higher measurements in waistline, hipline, VFA, SFA, BMI, PBG, SCr, TG, and lower HDL-C (P < 0.05) compared to the subgroup with normal uric acid levels. In the non-obese group, the hyperuricemia subgroup showed higher VFA, SCr, and FBG levels, and lower HDL-C (P < 0.05). There was a positive correlation between VFA and serum uric acid (SUA) levels (r = 0.329, P < 0.0001). Logistic regression analysis indicated a 24% increased risk of hyperuricemia with every 10cm2 increase in abdominal VFA. Generate the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis revealed that VFA was the most effective predictor of hyperuricemia and insulin resistance (P < 0.05). Conclusion Newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes patients exhibit a strong correlation between abdominal visceral fat and SUA concentration, the former is identified as an autonomous risk factor for hyperuricemia and an effective indicator for assessing the presence of hyperuricemia and predicting insulin resistance.

Abstract
Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the association between the triglyceride glucose (TyG) index and hyperuricemia (HUA) in patients with grades 1-3 hypertension. Study Design. This is a cross-sectional study. A total of 1,707 patients from the cardiovascular department of Affiliated Hospital of Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine were studied. In this study, 899 patients with grades 1-2 hypertension were included, of which 151 had HUA; additionally, 808 patients with grade 3 hypertension were included, of which 162 patients had HUA. This study obtained all patient data from the electronic medical record system of the Affiliated Hospital of Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The TyG index was calculated as Ln (triglycerides × fasting glucose/2). Hyperuricemia was defined as uric acid ≥420 μmol/L (7 mg/dL). Multivariate logistic regression, penalized spline regression, and generalized additive models were used to evaluate the association between the TyG index and HUA. Stratified analyses were performed to assess the association in populations with different grades of hypertension. Results The average TyG index was 8.71 ± 0.58. After adjusting for correlated variables, the logistic regression analysis revealed a positive correlation between the TyG index and HUA (OR = 1.83; 95% CI: 1.40-2.39). Smooth curve fitting showed that this correlation was linear in the whole range of the TyG index. In the subgroup analysis, the TyG index more strongly associated with HUA in the grades 1-2 hypertension group (OR = 2.22; 95% CI: 1.44-3.42) compared to that in the grade 3 hypertension group (OR = 1.58; 95% CI: 1.11-2.24; P for interaction = 0.03). In addition, this association was consistent in all models. Conclusion The TyG index was positively associated with HUA in patients with hypertension, and the association was more strongly confirmed in those with grades 1-2 hypertension rather than in those with grade 3 hypertension.

Abstract
AIMS This study was conducted to assess the association of uric acid (UA) with the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) and beta-cell function (HOMA-B) by gender in nondiabetic Korean adults. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study was carried out using data from the 2019 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and included nondiabetic Korean men, premenopausal women, and postmenopausal women aged 20 years or older. RESULTS First, after adjusted for the related variables (excluding obesity), the prevalence of hyperuricemia (UA ≥ 7.0 mg/dL in men or UA ≥ 6.0 mg/dL in women) was positively associated with the quartiles of HOMA-IR and HOMA-B in men, premenopausal women, and postmenopausal women. Second, when further adjusted for obesity, hyperuricemia was positively associated with the quartiles of HOMA-IR and HOMA-B in men and postmenopausal women but not in premenopausal women. Third, after adjusted for the related variables (including obesity), UA level was positively associated with the quartiles of HOMA-IR and HOMA-B in men and postmenopausal women but not in premenopausal women. CONCLUSIONS hyperuricemia is positively associated with insulin resistance and beta-cell function in nondiabetic Korean men and postmenopausal women but not in premenopausal women.

Abstract
Elevated serum uric acid (SUA) is associated with the incidence of hypertension, but whether relevant metabolic factors have mediating effects is not certain. Our study was based on a functional community cohort established in Beijing. In 2015, a total of 7482 individuals without hypertension were recruited and followed up until 2019. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to investigate the association between SUA and hypertension. Cross-lagged panel analysis and mediation analysis were used to explore the effects of metabolic factors on the association between SUA and incident hypertension. During the average 4-year follow-up, the cumulative incidence of hypertension was 10.9% (n = 580). SUA was an independent risk factor for hypertension, and the RRs (95% CI) for subjects with baseline SUA levels in quartile 2, quartile 3 and quartile 4 were 1.20 (0.88-1.63), 1.50 (1.10-2.05), and 1.57 (1.11-2.22) compared to those in quartile 1, respectively. The cross-lagged panel analysis showed that the increases in Cr, TG, LDL, ALT, AST and WBC occurred after SUA increased (P < 0.001). Among these factors, TG, WBC and ALT played an intermediary role in both men (TG: 14.76%; WBC: 11.61%; ALT: 15.93%) and women (TG: 14.55%; WBC: 8.55%; ALT: 6.89%). The elevated SUA concentration was an independent risk factor for hypertension in the Chinese population, and TG, WBC and ALT had important mediating effects on the association between SUA and hypertension.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Controversy remains as to whether low serum urate or uric acid (UA) levels contribute to adverse outcomes. We evaluated the relation between low serum UA levels and sarcopenia and assessed whether sarcopenia confounds associations between these low levels and mortality. METHODS We utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (1999-2006). Participants with available whole-body dual x-ray absorptiometry body composition measurements and serum UA concentrations were included. Body composition assessments included body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, maximum lifetime BMI, and age-, sex-, and race-specific appendicular lean mass index (ALMI) and fat mass index (FMI) Z scores. We also calculated Z scores for ALMI relative to FMI (ALMIFMI ). We evaluated associations between serum UA levels and body composition using logistic regression and assessed associations between serum UA levels and mortality before and after adjusting for differences in body composition using Cox proportional hazards regression. RESULTS Among the 13,979 participants, low serum UA concentrations (<2.5 mg/dl in women, <3.5 mg/dl in men) were associated with low lean mass (ALMI and ALMIFMI Z scores), underweight BMI (<18.5 kg/m2 ), and higher rates of weight loss. The proportion of patients with low ALMI Z scores was 29% in the low serum UA group and 16% in the normal serum UA group (P = 0.001). Low serum UA levels were associated with increased mortality before we adjusted for body composition (hazard ratio 1.61 [95% confidence interval 1.14-2.28]; P = 0.008) but was attenuated and not significant after adjustment for body composition and weight loss (hazard ratio 1.30 [95% confidence interval 0.92-1.85], P = 0.13). CONCLUSION Sarcopenia and weight loss are more common among patients with low serum UA concentrations. Differences in body composition may help to explain associations between low levels of serum UA and higher mortality.

Abstract
Our study aimed to investigate the C-peptide-releasing effect associated with the risk of elevated serum uric acid (SUA) levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). In the cross-sectional study, 345 patients with T2DM hospitalized at the First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University were consecutively enrolled, and their baseline data were collected. The study design used two parameters for C-peptide releasing effects: the multiplication effect of 1 h postprandial C-peptide to fasting C-peptide ratio (1hCp/FCp) and 2hCp/FCp; the incremental effect of 1hCp minus FCp (1hΔCp) and 2hΔCp. The patients with T2DM in the upper quartiles of SUA had higher FCp, 1hCp, 1hΔCp, 2hCp, and 2hΔCp. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that after adjusting all the confounding factors, the serum C-peptide including 1hCp (β = 5.14, p = 0.036), 1hΔCp (β = 7.80, p = 0.010), 2hCp (β = 4.27, p = 0.009) and 2hΔCp (β = 5.20, p = 0.005) were still positively correlated with SUA levels in patients with T2DM. In female patients, only the 2hCp (β = 4.78, p = 0.017) and 2hΔCp (β = 5.28, p = 0.019) were associated with SUA level; however, in male patients, no C-peptide parameter was associated with SUA levels in T2DM (all p > 0.05). Within a certain range, the elevated SUA levels might be associated with the better C-peptide incremental effect of islet β cell function in T2DM, especially in female patients.

Abstract
Uric acid (UA) is elevated in metabolic syndrome (MS) and diabetes (DM). UA is associated with central obesity and blood glucose and is proposed as a criterion of MS. Previous reports showed that UA could predict renal outcome in CKD. However, recent clinical trials did not demonstrate the benefits of urate-lowering agents (ULA) for renal outcome. Whether the prognostic value of UA for renal outcome is independent of MS or secondary to MS in CKD patients is unknown. Our study included 2500 CKD stage 1−4 Asian patients divided by UA tertiles and MS/DM. In linear regression, UA was associated with obesity, C-reactive protein, and renal function. In Cox regression, high UA was associated with worse renal outcome in non-MS/DM, but not in MS/DM: hazard ratio (95% confidence interval) of UA tertile 3 was 3.86 (1.87−7.97) in non-MS/DM and 1.00 (0.77−1.30) in MS/DM (p for interaction < 0.05). MS was associated with worse renal outcome, but redefined MS (including hyperuricemia as the 6th criteria) was not. In conclusion, hyperuricemia is associated with worse renal outcome in non-MS/DM and is not an independent component of MS in CKD stage 1−4 patients. Hyperuricemia secondary to MS could not predict renal outcome.

Abstract
Background Serum uric acid (SUA) has been proven to be closely associated with metabolic abnormalities, including obesity. This study aimed to investigate the detailed relationship between total percent fat (TPF) and SUA among adults. Methods Briefly, 23,715 adults aged 18–59 years in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 1999–2018 were included in this study. Multivariable linear regression models were used to examine the association between TPF and SUA. Subgroup analyses stratified by sex and obesity status were also performed by multivariable linear regression. Then, fitted smoothing curves and generalized additive models were also applied to address the non-linear relationship between TPF and SUA. Finally, a recursive algorithm was used to calculate the inflection point in the non-linear relationship and a two-segment piecewise linear regression model was used to analyze the relationship between TPF and SUA on both sides of the inflection point. Results There were 15,808 (66.7%) obese individuals in all 23,715 participants. In the fully adjusted model, there was a positive association between TPF and SUA (β = 0.99, 95% CI: 0.73–1.26). Besides, this positive association remained statistically significant in subgroup analyses stratified by sex and obesity status. Interestingly, in males, the association of TPF and SUA was an inverted U-shaped curve (inflection point: 34.3%). Conclusion Our study revealed a significant positive relationship between TPF and SUA among adults and this association remained statistically significant when stratified by sex and obesity status, but the shape of the smoothing curve in males differed from that in females.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Visceral fat has been considered an important risk factor of elevated serum uric acid (SUA). Perirenal fat is a unique visceral fat around the kidneys that has special morphological and physiological features while its relationship with SUA remains incompletely elucidated. This study aimed to assess the association between perirenal fat volume (PrFV) and SUA. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted in 102 subjects aged ≥ 18 years old recruited from Nanjing,China. The clinical characteristics including age, sex, drinking behavior, history of hypertension, body mass index, waist circumference, total cholesterol, fast plasma glucose, urea, serum creatinine, C-reactive protein, and SUA were recorded. PrFV was measured by ultrasonography. Multivariate linear models and the restricted cubic spline were used to investigate the association between PrFV and SUA. RESULTS The median age of this study population was 52.5 (42.0-60.0) years and 56.9% were female. The median value of SUA was 5.73 mg/dL (4.58-6.80 mg/dL). The subjects were divided by PrFV tertiles and we found that the subjects in the highest PrFV tertile had a higher level of SUA compared to those in the lowest tertile (β=1.86, 95%CI 1.23-2.48, P for trend <0.001).The positive association also remained after adjustment for potential covariates (tertile3 versus tertile1: β=0.99, 95%CI 0.35-1.63, P for trend =0.005). There was an increase of approximately 0.53 mg/dL in SUA per 1-fold increase in PrFV (β=0.53, 95%CI 0.02-1.04, P for nonlinearity = 0.637). CONCLUSION Our results confirmed a positive independent relationship between PrFV and SUA in Chinese adults. This study suggested that perirenal fat might constitute a potential risk factor for elevated serum uric acid levels.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze and compare the associations of hyperuricemia (HUA) with obesity, triglyceride-glucose (TyG), and its derivatives in college students. To provide early guidance on risk predictors of HUA in college students. METHODS This study was a cross-sectional survey including 23,411 participants (age: 17-20 years). Investigators conducted face-to-face interview surveys and physical examinations. Automated biochemical methods were used to detect biochemical indicators such as serum uric acid (UA). Calculation of obesity, TyG, and their derivatives indices were performed. Logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship between different indexes and hyperuricemia. OR value and 95% CI were also calculated. ROC curve was used for assessing the predictive ability of different indices of hyperuricemia. RESULTS After adjusting for age, SBP, DBP, ALT, AST, TC, BUN, and CREA, multivariate logistic regression showed that the OR value of LAP in the obesity index was higher, especially in women (male OR: 4.347, 95%CI: 3.807, 4.964; female OR: 4.672, 95%CI: 3.800, 5.744). The other three quartiles of TyG derivatives were highly associated with hyperuricemia in men and women compared with the top quartile (all P< 0.05). The risk of hyperuricemia increased with an increase in quartiles. For college students, all indicators could distinguish the presence of hyperuricemia. For men, the area under the curve (AUC) of TyG-WC was the largest (AUC: 0.694; 95%CI: 0.684-0.704; P<0.05), according to the Maximum Youden index 0.290 with cut point value 477.853. In women, TyG-BMI showed a maximum AUC value of 0.702 (95%CI: 0.685-0.719; P<0.05), according to the maximum Youden index of 0.317 with cut point value 132.446. The TyG-WC, TyG-WHtR, TyG-LAP, and LAP indices also had relatively high AUC. CONCLUSION In clinical practice, LAP, TYG, and their related derivatives may be used as sensitive indicators for HUA prediction in college students.

Abstract
PURPOSE The triglyceride-glucose index (TyG) is positively correlated with serum uric acid (SUA) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, whether this relationship exists in non-obese T2DM patients remains unknown. The study investigated the relationship between TyG and SUA in Chinese non-obese T2DM patients and examined the prognostic value of TyG in hyperuricemia (HUA). PATIENTS AND METHODS In total, 719 T2DM patients who were not obese were enrolled from among those who visited the Hebei General Hospital. The patients were categorized into groups according to their SUA levels. The relationship between TyG and clinical parameters was examined through correlation analysis. To consider covariates and examine the independent impact of TyG on HUA, logistic regression was performed. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to evaluate the diagnostic value of TyG and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) for HUA. RESULTS The HUA prevalence was 12.10%. TyG was statistically different among the four SUA groups, with lower TyG levels in the Q1, Q2, and Q3 groups than that in the Q4 group. TyG was positively correlated with SUA (r = 0.176, P < 0.001). Logistic regression exhibited that TyG and SUA were independently correlated (OR = 2.427, 95% CI = 1.134-5.195, P = 0.022) even after adjustment for confounding factors. The ROC curve showed that the predictive value of TyG for HUA was higher than that of HOMA-IR (AUROC = 0.613, P = 0.001). CONCLUSION TyG was positively correlated with SUA in non-obese T2DM patients. TyG may better predict HUA in non-obese T2DM patients than HOMA-IR.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hyperuricemia (HUA) is a metabolic anomaly with an increased incidence rate, causing a global medical burden. Several studies have confirmed that obesity and insulin resistance (IR) are the risk factors for HUA. Reports on the predictive power of different obesity indices for HUA are limited. This study aimed to compare the association between different general, abdominal, and visceral obesity indices and markers of the IR-triglyceride glucose (TyG) index with serum uric acid (SUA) and to assess the ability of these indices to predict HUA. METHODS A total of 2243 participants were recruited from Barkol County Hospital and surrounding township hospitals in Xinjiang. Obesity indices, including the atherogenic index of plasma, cardiometabolic index, visceral adiposity index, lipid accumulation product index, a body shape index, body roundness index, waist circumference, waist-to-height ratio, body mass index, and TyG index, were divided into four quartiles. Moreover, partial correlations and logistic regression were used to analyze the association between these indices and SUA. The area under the curve (AUC) and receiver operating characteristic curves were used to analyze the predictive value of these indices for HUA. RESULTS After controlling for confounding variables, the association between the TyG index and HUA was stronger than that between the obesity indices in both males and females. The odds ratios (ORs) for HUA in the highest quartile of the TyG index were 2.098 (95% confidence interval, 1.555-2.831) in males and 7.788 (95% CI, 3.581-16.937) in females. For males, the AIP, CMI, VAI, LAP index, and TyG index were able to discriminate HUA, and the TyG index showed the highest AUC value of 0.586 (95% CI, 0.557-0.614; P < 0.001). For females, all indices, except BMI, can discriminate HUA. Moreover, the visceral obesity index CMI showed the highest AUC value of 0.737 (95% CI, 0.691-0.782; P < 0.001). Meanwhile, the TyG index had a relatively high AUC value of 0.728 (95% CI, 0.682-0.773; P < 0.001). CONCLUSION The TyG index was significantly related to HUA and was superior to obesity indices in identifying HUA in the medical checkup population in Xinjiang, China.

Abstract
Background and Purpose The association between the cardiometabolic index (CMI) and hyperuricemia was investigated to provide theoretical support for the management of hyperuricemia in an asymptomatic population with normal body mass index (BMI). Methods A cross-sectional study was carried out among 374 asymptomatic adults with normal BMI. Traditional anthropometric indices and CMI were calculated. Anthropometric indices were divided into four quartiles and multivariate logistic analysis was used to analyze the association between these indices and hyperuricemia. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and area under the curve (AUC) were used to evaluate the power of the indices to predict hyperuricemia values. The DeLong test was used to compare the AUC of different anthropometric indices. Results After adjusting for confounding variables, the CMI exhibited a stronger association with hyperuricemia than other anthropometric indices. The odds ratio (OR) for hyperuricemia in the highest quartile of the CMI was 16.674 (confidence interval [CI]=4.424–62.846). The AUC of the CMI was 0.777 (95% CI=0.719–0.835, p<0.001), which was higher than the values for other anthropometric indices. The differences in AUC between the CMI and other indices were statistically significant; the optimal cutoff value of the CMI was 0.655, with sensitivity of 57.1% and specificity of 84.2%. Conclusion The CMI, which combines waist circumference, height and blood lipid parameters, was more strongly associated with hyperuricemia than other anthropometric indices in asymptomatic population with normal BMI. The CMI may serve as a potential monitoring indicator for hyperuricemia management in asymptomatic populations with normal BMI.

Abstract
The current study was conducted to investigate the nephroprotective effects of vildagliptin-metformin combination in an experimental model of fructose/salt-induced metabolic syndrome (MetS). A major aim was to evaluate the potential capacity of vitamin D3 to potentiate the pleiotropic nephroprotective effects of vildagliptin-metformin combination. MetS was induced in adult male Wistar rats by adding fructose (10%) to everyday drinking water and salt (3%) to the diet for 6 weeks. Along with the same concentrations of fructose/salt feeding, MetS rats were then treated orally with either vildagliptin (10 mg/kg/day)-metformin (200 mg/kg/day) combination, vitamin D3 (10 μg/kg/day), or the triple therapy for a further 6 weeks. The incidence of MetS was confirmed 6 weeks after fructose/salt consumption, when the rats exhibited significant weight gain, dyslipidemia, hyperuricemia, insulin resistance, hyperinsulinemia, and impaired glucose tolerance. At the end of the 12-week experimental period, MetS rats displayed significantly deteriorated renal function, enhanced intrarenal oxidative stress and inflammation together with exaggerated renal histopathological damages and interstitial fibrosis. The study has corroborated antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antifibrotic effects of vildagliptin-metformin combination, vitamin D3, and the triple collaborative therapy, conferring renoprotection in the setting of MetS. Due attention has been paid to the crucial role of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibition and sirtuin-1/5' adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase activation as novel therapeutic targets to optimize renoprotection. The apparent potentiating effect, evoked upon coadministration of vitamin D3 with vildagliptin-metformin combination, may provide a cornerstone for further clinical investigations.

[Exploring the therapeutic mechanism of Simiao pills for hyperuricemia based on network pharmacology and molecular docking]. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the mechanism of Simiao pills for treatment of hyperuricemia based on network pharmacology and molecular docking. OBJECTIVE The active ingredients of Simiao pills and their targets of action were predicted using TCMSP, SEA, Swiss and PharmMapper databases. GeneCards and TCD databases were searched for the disease targets related to hyperuricemia. Cytoscape 3.6.1 was used to construct a protein-protein interaction network. GO enrichment analysis and KEGG pathway analysis were carried out on the STRING platform. The binding between the main compounds and the key targets were predicted using the SwissDock platform for molecular docking. OBJECTIVE We identified 28 active ingredients and 429 potential targets in Simiao pills, 494 disease targets related to hyperuricemia, and 118 common targets between Simiao pills and hyperuricemia. Several key targets including AKT1, IL- 6, JUN, TNF and CASP3 were screened for molecular docking, which had good binding activities with berberrubine, epiberberine, stigmasterol and sitosterol. AKT1, IL-6, JUN, TNF and CASP3 were predicted to be the key targets for Simiao pills for treating hyperuricemia. KEGG pathway enrichment analysis showed that Simiao pills produced therapeutic effects on hyperuricemia through multiple signaling pathways including the TNF signaling pathway, apoptosis signaling pathway and IL-17 signaling pathway. OBJECTIVE Simiao pills produces therapeutic effects on hyperuricemia through multiple components and targets and the synergy of several pathways. Our finding provides a theoretical basis for further study of the active ingredients and therapeutic mechanism of Simiao pills for treating hyperuricemia.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aims to investigate the correlation between serum uric acid levels and body fat distribution in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). METHODS Between May 2017 and March 2021, a total of 199 patients with PCOS were recruited from the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Shanghai Tenth People's Hospital. Anthropometric characteristics, metabolic parameters, and reproductive hormones were measured. Hyperuricemia was defined as serum uric acid (SUA) greater than 420 μmol/l. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) was used to measure body fat distribution. RESULTS The prevalence of hyperuricemia in patients with PCOS was 28.64%. PCOS patients with hyperuricemia are more obese and have a higher waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) and worse lipid metabolism than those without hyperuricemia. According to SUA quartiles, patients in the highest quartile had higher total testosterone (TT), body fat accumulation, and lower sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) than patients in the lowest quartile. SUA was correlated with percentage of total body fat, arm fat mass, leg fat mass, trunk fat mass, android/gynoid (A/G) ratio, and visceral adipose tissue (VAT) mass. After controlling possible confounders, logistic regression analysis found that only excessive VAT mass could significantly increase the risk of hyperuricemia in patients with PCOS. CONCLUSION In patients with PCOS, a high level of VAT mass, but not other fat compartments, will exacerbate the risk of hyperuricemia. Attention should be paid to the role of excessive VAT in the occurrence and development of PCOS with hyperuricemia.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To clarify the relationship between serum urate (SU) decrease and visceral fat area (VFA) reduction in patients with gout. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed 237 male gout patients who had two sets of body composition and metabolic measurements within 6 months. Subjects included had all been treated with urate-lowering therapy (ULT) (febuxostat 20-80 mg/day or benzbromarone 25-50 mg/day, validated by the medical record). All patients were from the specialty gout clinic of The Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University. The multiple linear regression model evaluated the relationship between change in SU [ΔSU, (baseline SU) - (final visit SU)] and change in VFA [ΔVFA, (baseline VFA) - (final visit VFA)]. RESULTS ULT resulted in a mean (standard deviation) decrease in SU level (464.22 ± 110.21 μmol/L at baseline, 360.93 ± 91.66 μmol/L at the final visit, p <0.001) accompanied by a decrease in median (interquartile range) VFA [97.30 (81.15-118.55) at baseline, 90.90 (75.85-110.05) at the final visit, p < 0.001]. By multiple regression model, ΔSU was identified to be a significant determinant variable of decrease in VFA (beta, 0.302; p = 0.001). CONCLUSIONS The decrease in SU level is positively associated with reduced VFA. This finding provides a rationale for clinical trials to affirm whether ULT promotes loss of visceral fat in patients with gout.
