Abstract
BACKGROUND Patient education is an effective tool in enhancing compliance and comprehension to therapy. Preoperative video-based education (VBE) on knowledge and understanding of surgical procedures and physical therapy provides an insight into the essential need for treatment adherence and early post-operative recovery. Self-efficacy (SE) is an individual self-belief about one's ability to cope and is denoted as a sign of healthy behavior and empowerment. Although little is known about VBE and self-efficacy (SE) in rehabilitation of pulmonary surgery patients. The objective was to assess the influence of VBE in pulmonary rehabilitation on SE post pulmonary surgery patients using the Manipal Self Efficacy Questionnaire (MSEQ). METHODS Study design: Mixed methods pilot study. The MSEQ and educational video were designed and developed for this study. Piloting was conducted with the MSEQ (CVI = 0.95) and educational video (CVI = 1). After approval from the ethics committee, written informed consent was obtained from twenty preoperative pulmonary surgery patients were randomized to two groups. The control group (n = 30) received routine post-operative exercises and experimental group (n = 30) received preoperative VBE along with exercises. RESULTS Validation of MSEQ and educational video was derived as per content validation index. Mann- Whitney U test and Wilcoxon signed rank test were used to compare the groups. SE scores in the experimental group was higher than the control (p = 0.004). DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION VBE on PR improved SE of the patients after pulmonary surgery. The study's main limitation was the difficulty in attaining the desired sample size because it was a time-bound study.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Explainer animations are a means to communicate aspects of clinical trials to participants in a more engaging and accessible way. Delivered well these have the potential to enhance recruitment and retention. The range of media technology used to deliver this material is expanding rapidly but is highly fragmented. Usage of explainer animations across the UK is unknown, the aim of this research was to determine current usage across the 52 registered UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) Clinical Trials Units (CTUs) to understand the current landscape and any barriers that could be preventing wider uptake of this functionality. METHODS A survey link was emailed to all UKCRC CTU Directors and Trial Management Leads to ascertain current usage of explainer animations within their CTU. The survey ran between 01 February 2023 and 07 March 2023. RESULTS Responses were received from 35 CTUs-representing a response rate of 67%. 24 CTUs (69%) reported that they had created/used at least one explainer animation within their unit, although the usage, cost, length and production activities varied among the units. CONCLUSIONS The survey showed that a high proportion of the UKCRC CTUs have used explainer animations to provide information to participants about clinical studies. For those not using the technology yet, the most common reasons cited were a lack of expertise, lack of resources and costs to produce them. One of the desired outcomes of this project is the creation of a free-to-use library of animations to encourage wider uptake and avoid duplication.

Abstract
Despite its high risk of leading to permanent visual dysfunction, glaucoma remains underdiagnosed in primary care settings. About 11% of glaucoma patients in Saudi Arabia end up with bilateral blindness. This scoping review investigates and presents results on the glaucoma profile, including its prevalence, knowledge, attitude, and practice of Saudi Arabians towards the disease. An online search using four databases through online software (www.rayyan.ai) was performed to extract the relevant articles. Out of 76 records, 21 articles were eligible for the analysis. All included studies were published between the years 2014 and 2022. Most studies were in Riyadh city, followed by Jeddah. All participants (n=11 388) were adults >18 years old, and male participants were generally higher than females. The findings showed poor knowledge of glaucoma among the general population, while the knowledge among glaucoma patients was acceptable. The attitude was positive, while the compliance and practice were fair. More educational programs about glaucoma, its risk to the eyes, and the overall quality of life are highly recommended.

Abstract
This article meta-analyzed 21 studies that tested the effectiveness of animated videos in improving learning in clinical and nonclinical settings compared with standard education. Animation was defined as the use of moving objects that are typically drawn or simulated. Videos ranged from just over 2 min in duration to 16 min in duration in articles published from 2009 through 2020. Mayer's Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning provided the theoretical model to frame the current analyses. Findings indicated an overall positive effect (d = 0.35) for use of animation in improving viewers' learning across a variety of health and clinical contexts, including surgery and diabetes. Moderator analyses indicated learning effects were greater in patient samples and samples with a higher proportion of male participants. Study findings were discussed in terms of the theoretical and practical implications for health communication scholars and practitioners.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION As the younger female generation, female adolescents should understand anaemia prevention. This study examined the effects of animated educational videos on the knowledge of anaemia prevention among female adolescents using the Health Belief Model (HBM). METHOD A quasi-experimental method with a randomised pre-test and post-test control group design was applied. Animated educational videos about anaemia prevention were used as the intervention. One hundred sixty-one female adolescents were recruited through multistage random sampling and divided into intervention (n=78) and control (n=83) groups. The intervention group received education via animated educational videos. The HBM questionnaire was used to measure the nine HBM indicators (r=0.8); the item categories were valid and reliable. Descriptive analyses, independent t-tests and repeated-measures ANOVA were used to analyse the data. RESULTS The animated educational videos played thrice significantly increased the knowledge of the intervention group (mean score: pre-test, 94; post-test one, 99; post-test two, 102). The scores for anaemia examination barriers (P=0.001), anaemia susceptibility (P=0.001), anaemia severity (P=0.001), anaemia prevention benefits (P=0.001), anaemia examination benefits (P=0.001), self-efficacy for obtaining iron tablets (P=0.001), self-recognition of anaemia signs and symptoms (P=0.001), signs of anaemia prevention (P=0.001) and health motivation (P=0.001) significantly changed. Meanwhile, the knowledge of the control group did not significantly increase (pre-test, 93; post-test one, 94; post-test two, 97). The intervention group had significantly higher mean scores in both the first and second measurements than the control group (P=0.05). CONCLUSION Animated educational videos significantly increased the knowledge of anaemia prevention, including the nine HBM indicators.

Abstract
Animation is an excellent method to associate with the audience in a fun and innovative manner. In recent span, animation has been employed in various fields to enhance knowledge, marketing, advertisement, and age groups from infants to adults. The present communication expounds the systematic review on the impact created by animation on the viewer’s visual attention. For this review, a database such as Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, Taylor & Francis, and IEEE Xplore were pursued for publications on the impact of animation on viewer’s visual attention from January 2015 to December 2021. The search results showcased 175 titles with 114 full articles, out of which 35 were related to viewers’ visual attention towards animation. These reviewed studies comprised of physical outcome (
), psychological outcome (
), and cognitive outcome (
) from which the attention-related factors, physical effects, and cognitive effects of animation were assessed. The animation has influenced the viewer’s visual attention through the integration of the different stimuli and the highly organized presentation. Furthermore, the animation has also aided the viewer in attaining greater conceptual understanding, thereby facilitating their cognitive response. As a result, the animation was found to be helpful in enhancing learning skills, food marketing, and teaching strategy. Furthermore, the drawbacks and future recommendations of the studies were elaborated. In addition, challenges and open issues faced during the studies were discussed. Finally, the priority areas in animation identified for promising future directions to visualize large pool data, provide smart communication, and design 3D modeling structures were highlighted.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the quality, reliability, and popularity of videos relating to glaucoma on YouTube. DESIGN Retrospective, cross-sectional study of YouTube videos about glaucoma. PARTICIPANTS One hundred YouTube videos were analyzed for this study. METHODS An online YouTube search for glaucoma videos was conducted simulating a user search using the keywords glaucoma, high eye pressure, and high intraocular pressure. The first 100 videos were analyzed, and each video was evaluated by 2 independent reviewers using the modified DISCERN (scale, 1-5), Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA; scale, 0-4), and Global Quality (GQ; scale, 1-5) criteria to assess quality and reliability. Videos were categorized further into 3 groups depending on the source of their upload. Group 1 comprised videos uploaded by academic or government institutions, group 2 comprised videos uploaded by private medical practices, and group 3 comprised videos uploaded by independent users. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Modified DISCERN, JAMA, and GQ scores for quality and reliability of information and video power index (VPI) for video popularity. RESULTS No substantial difference in scoring was observed between the 2 independent reviewers. The overall mean ± standard error (SE) scores were modified DISCERN score, 3.81 ± 0.06; JAMA score, 2.93 ± 0.07; and GQ score, 3.98 ± 0.06. The overall mean ± SE VPI score was 9.9 ± 2.9. Significant positive correlations were found between video popularity and quality of information for all 3 criteria (P < 0.05). The videos in groups 1 and 2 showed higher modified DISCERN scores than those in group 3, but did not score higher with either the JAMA or GQ criteria. Videos in group 3 were the most popular when compared with videos in groups 1 or 2 (P < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS Overall, many of the videos had adequate quality and reliability scores. No difference was found among groups 1 through 3 for 2 of the 3 criteria used, suggesting a similar quality of information provided among academic, private, and independent sources.

A Multifaceted Strategy to Enhance Glaucoma Knowledge and Reduce Anxiety in the Uyghur Population of Rural China. J Ophthalmol 2022. Abstract
Purpose. The aim of the study is to assess the impact of a multifaceted education strategy for Uyghur patients with glaucoma on their anxiety, satisfaction, and comprehension of disease information in rural China. Methods. This study recruited 100 patients who were randomized into two groups: the control group that received a conventional consultation and the intervention group that received a multifaceted education approach. Information comprehension was evaluated using a 15-item questionnaire. A 6-item State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-6) score was used to assess patient anxiety levels. Satisfaction was evaluated on the day of discharge. Results. After education, patients in the intervention group scored significantly higher than those in the control group on their knowledge of glaucoma (
). Education level, family history of glaucoma, and number of glaucoma clinic visits were independently associated with baseline scores (p = 0.038, 0.002, and 0.017, respectively). The age was negatively correlated with scores (
) after education. The STAI-6 score of the intervention group was 28.50 ± 5.13, which was significantly lower than that of the control group (32.50 ± 6.47, p = 0.001). Income levels were negatively correlated and the duration of glaucoma was positively correlated with STAI-6 scores (

Abstract
Objectives: Patients often confuse the role of the radiologist with that of the technician. The aim of this study is to explore patients’ current perceptions about the radiology department and to evaluate how it’s possible to get rid of misconceptions using informative animated video in the waiting room. Materials and Methods: In this multi-centric study (UZ Leuven, ZNA Middelheim), 278 patients of all ages and education levels were surveyed in the radiology waiting room. 107 patients filled out the survey after watching an informative animated video (www.makeradiologyvisible.com). The remaining patients did not watch the video. Results: Half of the patients (86/171) in the non-video group believe the radiologist “performs the scanning”, compared to 19% (20/107) in the video group (p < 0.001). Patients who think their own physician will interpret the images is 36% (61/171) in the non-video group and 10% (11/107) in the video group (p < 0.001). In the non-video group, 32% (55/171) believe the technician performs the exam compared to 59% (63/107) in the video group (p < 0.001). After the video, 67% (72/107) of patients have more respect for the work of the radiologist, 52% (56/107) experience less anxiety and 65% (70/107) think the video is of added value to their visit. All items showed a better impact in high-educational subgroups. Conclusion: Animated informative videos help to increase patient knowledge about the radiology department. It moderates expectations, reduces anxiety, and ameliorates the overall experience. Although, the learning curve is steeper in highly educated patients, all educational levels benefit.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Non-small cell lung cancer is the most common type of lung cancer. Lung resection is proven to be the most effective curative treatment for early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (stages I-IIIA). Studies show evidence-based pulmonary rehabilitation is critical for improving exercise capacity and pulmonary function, reducing burden of cancer-related symptoms, and facilitating quality of life following a lung resection. OBJECTIVE To explore the effectiveness of an animation education program to promote respiratory rehabilitation outcomes for postsurgical lung cancer patients. INTERVENTIONS/METHODS Eighty lung cancer patients who had undergone lung resection were equally randomized to 2 groups with 40 participants in each group. The intervention group received animation education. The control group received traditional face-to-face education. The training-related knowledge and exercise compliance were evaluated at baseline, 3 days after education, and the day of discharge, along with related pulmonary functional indicators. RESULTS Eighty of 99 eligible participants were enrolled (80.8%). Mean scores of training-related knowledge and exercise compliance in the intervention group were higher than those of the control group. Occurrences of postoperative pulmonary complications and the indwelling time of thoracic drainage tube were lower, and 6-minute walk distance was longer compared with the control group. No statistical differences in other pulmonary functional indicators were found. CONCLUSIONS Educational animation is effective for promoting training-related knowledge and exercise compliance with active respiratory rehabilitation in postsurgical lung cancer patients. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Oncology nurses can implement animation as an innovative educational method for improving cancer patients' uptake and compliance on health education.

Abstract
The long period of tuberculosis treatment causes patients to have a high risk of forgetting or stopping the medication altogether, which increases the risk of oral anti-tuberculosis drug resistance. The patient’s knowledge and perception of the disease affect the patient’s adherence to treatment. This research objective was to determine the impact of educational videos in the local language on the level of knowledge, perception, and adherence of tuberculosis patients in the Regional General Hospital (RSUD) Bangil. This quasi-experimental study design with a one-month follow-up allocated 62 respondents in the intervention group and 60 in the control group. The pre- and post-experiment levels of knowledge and perception were measured with a validated set of questions. Adherence was measured by pill counts. The results showed that the intervention increases the level of knowledge of the intervention group higher than that of the control group (p-value < 0.05) and remained high after one month of follow-up. The perceptions domains that changed after education using Javanese (Ngoko) language videos with the Community Based Interactive Approach (CBIA) method were the timeline, personal control, illness coherence, and emotional representations (p-value < 0.05). More than 95% of respondents in the intervention group take 95% of their pill compared to 58% of respondents in the control group (p-value < 0.05). Utilization of the local languages for design a community-based interactive approach to educate and communicate is important and effective.

Abstract
PRéCIS:: In patients undergoing selective laser trabeculoplasty, preoperative video education did not improve patient knowledge regarding the procedure, decrease anxiety, or increase satisfaction, as these metrics were already favorable across all patients in this study. PURPOSE To assess the effect of an educational video on patient knowledge, anxiety, and satisfaction at a selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) procedure visit. MATERIALS AND METHODS This is a prospective, randomized trial. Patients at a single academic medical center completed a survey at their procedure visit for SLT; patients were randomized to view an educational video or no video before survey administration. Knowledge was assessed with a 10-item questionnaire. The 6-item State-Trait Anxiety Inventory scale (STAI-6) assessed anxiety (score >40 defined significant anxiety). Perceptions of visit quality were assessed using a Likert scale. RESULTS Twenty-two patients were randomized into video (n=11) and control (n=11) groups. No difference in knowledge was observed between groups (83.6% control vs. 82.7% video group, P=0.635). No patient had significant anxiety (STAI-6 range, 20 to 40, average 29) and scores were similar between groups (P=0.385). Overall, patients had positive perceptions of visit quality, and there was no significant difference between groups (P=0.999). CONCLUSION Patients undergoing SLT had high levels of knowledge, low levels of anxiety, and high levels of satisfaction. In this clinical setting, an educational video seemed to have no additional benefit on these metrics and thus, may be omitted. Further research may be directed toward optimizing patient education regarding SLT, particularly in settings with poor health literacy, limited resources, or limited access to glaucoma specialists.

Abstract
Effective clinician-patient communication is particularly important in ophthalmology where long-term adherence to treatment is often required. However, in the context of increasingly pressurised clinics, there is a tendency to resort to written information leaflets not suited to patients with visual impairment, non-English speakers or those with low levels of literacy. Video-based media could be harnessed to enhance clinician-patient communication. This systematic review aimed to assess the efficacy of using video-based media for patient education in ophthalmology. A pre-defined search strategy was used by two independent researchers to systematically review the PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE and PsycINFO databases. Eligible articles included peer-reviewed studies involving ophthalmology patients, who received a solely video-based educational intervention to assess for improvement in patient knowledge, behaviour and overall health-related outcomes. The search yielded 481 studies of which 31 passed initial screening. Following full-text analysis, 12 studies met the inclusion criteria, of which seven studies (58.3%) were randomised controlled trials. The majority of studies (58.3%) reported outcomes on patient comprehension with 5/7 (71%) showing statistically significant improvement after video intervention. Four studies (33.3%) reported on patient performance in a task (e.g. drop application method) or overall health-related outcome with 2/4 (50%) showing statistically significant improvement after intervention. Though more evidence is needed, the use of video-based media appears to be effective in improving patient understanding and in certain cases may ameliorate overall outcome. There is a paucity of well-designed studies and future research is required to fully examine the role of video-based media in patient education.

Abstract
Background: The improper use of insulin usually leads to some unexpected effects, hence, there is a need for right usage. Lack of knowledge and of understanding are key factors leading to the occurrence of medication errors, which could be avoided with proper education. Therefore, an appealing education alternative, such as video, is needed to improve patient's knowledge and attitudes towards insulin therapy. Design and Methods: One-group pretest and posttest design were conducted on 100 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who were receiving subcutaneous insulin therapy at Internal Medicine Unit in Universitas Airlangga Teaching Hospital. The patients filled the provided questionnaires to measure their knowledge and attitudes, before and after watching the video on insulin therapy education. Then, data obtained were analysed with SPSS using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test Method. Results: Based on the results, there was an increase in the value of the patient's knowledge, with the value of Z=-8.212 and P<0.05. Similarly, there was an increase in the patient's attitudes with the value of Z=-8.234 and P<0.05. Conclusions: Insuline therapy video increases the knowledge and improves the attitude of diabetes mellitus patients towards insulin therapy.
