Abstract
Silicone oil (SO) emulsification is a significant concern in vitreoretinal surgery, leading to various complications. Despite the high prevalence of SO emulsification within the eye, there is currently no standardized method for its early detection. The recent introduction of widefield (WF) imaging and ultra-WF (UWF) imaging with navigated central and peripheral optical coherence tomography (OCT) techniques have shown promising results in providing high-resolution images of the peripheral vitreous, vitreoretinal interface, retina, and choroid. This enhanced visualization capability enables the early identification of emulsified SO droplets, facilitating a proactive therapeutic approach, and mitigating associated adverse events. This comprehensive literature review aims to provide an updated overview of the topic, focusing on the role of WFimaging and UWF imaging and navigated central and peripheral swept-source OCT (SS-OCT) in the early detection and management of SO emulsification. The review discusses the current understanding of SO emulsification, its associated complications, and the limitations of existing detection methods. In addition, it highlights the potential of WF and UWF imaging and peripheral OCT as advanced imaging modalities for improved visualization of SO emulsification. This review serves as a valuable resource for clinicians and researchers, providing insights into the latest advancements in the field of vitreoretinal surgery and the promising role of WF imaging and UWF imaging and navigated central and peripheral SS-OCT in the management of SO.

Abstract
Wide-field (WF) retinal imaging is becoming a standard diagnostic tool for diseases involving the peripheral retina. Technological progress elicited the advent of wide-field optical coherence tomography (WF-OCT) and WF-OCT angiography (WF-OCTA) examinations. This review presents the results of studies that analyzed the implementation of these procedures in clinical practice and refers to them as traditional and ultra-wide-field fluorescein angiography (UWF-FA). A PUBMED search was performed using the terms WF-OCT OR WF-OCTA OR UWF-FA AND the specific clinical entity, and another search for diabetic retinopathy (DR), retinal vein occlusion (RVO), Coats disease, peripheral retinal telangiectasia, peripheral retinal degeneration, lattice degeneration, and posterior vitreous detachment. The analysis only included the studies in which the analyzed field of view for the OCT or OCTA exam was larger than 55 degrees. The evaluation of the extracted studies indicates that WF imaging with OCT and OCTA provides substantial information on retinal disorders involving the peripheral retina. Vascular diseases, such as DR or RVO, can be reliably evaluated using WF-OCTA with results superior to standard-field fluorescein angiography. Nevertheless, UWF-FA provides a larger field of view and still has advantages over WF-OCTA concerning the evaluation of areas of non-perfusion and peripheral neovascularization. Detailed information on the vascular morphology of peripheral changes should be obtained via WF-OCTA and not angiographic examinations. WF-OCT can serve as a valuable tool for the detection and evaluation of vitreoretinal traction, posterior vitreous detachment, and peripheral retinal degeneration, and guide therapeutic decisions on a patient's eligibility for surgical procedures.

Abstract
Medical imaging is the mainstay of clinical diagnosis and management. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging technology that has revolutionized the field of ophthalmology. Since its introduction, OCT has undergone significant improvements in image quality, speed, and resolution, making it an essential diagnostic tool for various ocular pathologies. OCT has not only improved the diagnosis and management of ocular diseases but has also found applications in other fields of medicine. In this manuscript, we provide a brief overview of the history of OCT, its current uses and diagnostic capabilities to assess the posterior segment of the eye, and the evolution of this technology from time-domain (TD) to spectral-domain (SD) and swept-source (SS). This brief review will also discuss the limitations, advantages, disadvantages, and future perspectives of this technology in the field of ophthalmology.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate a series of peripheral lattice degeneration cases using an ultra-widefield (UWF) swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) system. METHODS From August 1, 2022 to July 31, 2023, 19 eyes from 16 patients with peripheral lattice degeneration were included. They all underwent a UWF SS-OCT examination. Anatomy of retina, vitreous, and associated pathologic changes were assessed. RESULTS UWF SS-OCT showed various anatomical changes of retina and vitreous in patients with lattice degeneration. Of 15 eyes from 12 patients whose UWF SS-OCT images were clearly obtained, eight eyes showed regional retinal thinning, seven eyes showed vitreous traction, two eyes showed detached vitreous, and three eyes showed retinal break. CONCLUSIONS UWF SS-OCT can be a useful tool to understand anatomical changes and pathophysiology of peripheral lattice degeneration.

Abstract
Lattice degeneration (LD), routinely diagnosed with indirect ophthalmoscopy, is one of the most common and clinically significant peripheral retinal findings. In this review, we have summarized the data on currently available imaging techniques which help to improve diagnosis and our understanding of LD pathogenesis. Ultra-wide field imaging provides reliable color fundus capturing for the primary diagnosis of LD and may also be used as a screening tool. Wide-field imaging can be used for targeted documentation of LD lesions using true colors and with minimal optical distortions. Information on the status of the vitreoretinal interface, including detection of retinal holes, detachments, and vitreous tractions, can be obtained with peripheral structural optical coherence tomography (OCT) or scanning laser ophthalmoscopy in retro-mode. These techniques clarify the associated risks of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. Fundus autofluorescence can provide details on atrophic changes. However, the risk of retinal detachment by means of this technique requires further investigation. OCT angiography may be successfully performed for some lesions. Taken together, OCT and OCT angiography demonstrate thinning of the choroid, alteration of local choroidal microcirculation, and, in severe lesions, involvement of the sclera. OCT angiography confirms loss of retinal microcirculation within LD lesion, which was previously shown with fluorescein angiography. In conclusion, despite relatively simple primary diagnosis, imaging of LD lesions remains challenging due to their peripheral localization. However, several new strategies, including ultra-wide field imaging, peripheral OCT, and scanning laser ophthalmoscopy, make LD imaging possible on a routine basis, improving diagnosis and understanding of LD pathogenesis.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the attitudes, beliefs, and practice patterns of vitreoretinal specialists regarding the utilization of telemedicine during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to identify features which may predict future telemedicine use. Methods: An 11-question anonymous survey was completed electronically in July 2020 by vitreoretinal specialists practicing in the United States. Results: The survey response rate was 13.0% (361/2,774). Thirty-five respondents (9.7%) had used telemedicine before March 1, 2020; after March 1, 2020, 170 (47.1%) reported using telemedicine (p < 0.001). Of the 170 respondents who reported telemedicine use, a majority (65.3%;111/170) performed 0-5 patient visits per week. Female retina specialists, younger physicians, and those with prior telemedicine usage were more likely to use telemedicine. Barriers to telemedicine use included concern for misdiagnosis (332/361, 92.0%), inability to obtain optical coherence tomography imaging (330/361, 91.4%), inability to obtain fundus imaging (327/361, 90.6%), lack of access to and/or comfort with the technology (261/361, 72.3%), potential legal liability (229/361, 63.4%), and low reimbursement (227/361, 62.9%). The majority of respondents (225/361; 62.3%) reported that telemedicine without ancillary imaging was not an acceptable way to evaluate patients. However, 59.2% (214/361) would find telemedicine acceptable if remote imaging was available. Conclusions: The pandemic led to a rapid adoption of telemedicine by vitreoretinal specialists. The majority of specialists using telemedicine performed five or fewer visits per week. The availability of remote imaging may increase confidence in clinical outcomes with a subsequent increase in utilization of telemedicine by vitreoretinal specialists.
