Modeling security evaluation framework for IoHT-driven systems using integrated decision-making methodology

The intensification of the Internet of Health Things devices created security concerns due to the limitations of these devices and the nature of the healthcare data. While dealing with the security challenges, several authentication schemes, protocols, processes, and standards have been adopted. Consequently, making the right decision regarding the installation of a secure authentication solution or procedure becomes tricky and challenging due to the large number of security protocols, complexity, and lack of understanding. The major objective of this study is to propose an IoHT-based assessment framework for evaluating and prioritizing authentication schemes in the healthcare domain. Initially, in the proposed work, the security issues related to authentication are collected from the literature and consulting experts' groups. In the second step, features of various authentication schemes are collected under the supervision of an Internet of Things security expert using the Delphi approach. The collected features are used to design suitable criteria for assessment and then Graph Theory and Matrix approach applies for the evaluation of authentication alternatives. Finally, the proposed framework is tested and validated to ensure the results are consistent and accurate by using other multi-criteria decision-making methods. The framework produces promising results such as 93%, 94%, and 95% for precision, accuracy, and recall, respectively in comparison to the existing approaches in this area. The proposed framework can be picked as a guideline by healthcare security experts and stakeholders for the evaluation and decision-making related to authentication issues in IoHT systems.

Development of artificial neural network models to predict the PAMPA effective permeability of new, orally administered drugs active against the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2

Responding to the pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2, the scientific community intensified efforts to provide drugs effective against the virus. To strengthen these efforts, the "COVID Moonshot" project has been accepting public suggestions for computationally triaged, synthesized, and tested molecules. The project aimed to identify molecules of low molecular weight with activity against the virus, for oral treatment. The ability of a drug to cross the intestinal cell membranes and enter circulation decisively influences its bioavailability, and hence the need to optimize permeability in the early stages of drug discovery. In our present work, as a contribution to the ongoing scientific efforts, we employed artificial neural network algorithms to develop QSAR tools for modelling the PAMPA effective permeability (passive diffusion) of orally administered drugs. We identified a set of 61 features most relevant in explaining drug cell permeability and used them to develop a stacked regression ensemble model, subsequently used to predict the permeability of molecules included in datasets made available through the COVID Moonshot project. Our model was shown to be robust and may provide a promising framework for predicting the potential permeability of molecules not yet synthesized, thus guiding the process of drug design.

Trustworthy Intrusion Detection in E-Healthcare Systems

In Internet of Things (IoT)-based network systems (IoT-net), intrusion detection systems (IDS) play a significant role to maintain patient health records (PHR) in e-healthcare. IoT-net is a massive technology with security threats on the network layer, as it is considered the most common source for communication and data storage platforms. The security of data servers in all sectors (mainly healthcare) has become one of the most crucial challenges for researchers. This paper proposes an approach for effective intrusion detection in the e-healthcare environment to maintain PHR in a safe IoT-net using an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). In the proposed security model, the experiments present a security tool that helps to detect malicious network traffic. The practical implementation of the ANFIS model on the MATLAB framework with testing and training results compares the accuracy rate from the previous research in security.

Analyzing the Impact of Cyber Security Related Attributes for Intrusion Detection Systems

Machine learning (ML) is one of the dominating technologies practiced in both the industrial and academic domains throughout the world. ML algorithms can examine the threats and respond to intrusions and security incidents swiftly in an instinctive way. It plays a critical function in providing a proactive security mechanism in the cybersecurity domain. Cybersecurity ensures the real time protection of information, information systems, and networks from intruders. Several security and privacy reports have cited that there has been a rapid increase in both the frequency and the number of cybersecurity breaches in the last decade. Information security has been compromised by intruders at an alarming rate. Anomaly detection, phishing page identification, software vulnerability diagnosis, malware identification, and denial of services attacks are the main cyber-security issues that demand effective solutions. Researchers and experts have been practicing different approaches to address the current cybersecurity issues and challenges. However, in this research endeavor, our objective is to make an idealness assessment of machine learning-based intrusion detection systems (IDS) under the hesitant fuzzy (HF) conditions, using a multi-criteria decision making (MCDM)-based analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal-solutions (TOPSIS). Hesitant fuzzy sets are useful for addressing decision-making situations in which experts must overcome the reluctance to make a conclusion. The proposed research project would assist the machine learning practitioners and cybersecurity specialists in identifying, selecting, and prioritizing cybersecurity-related attributes for intrusion detection systems, and build more ideal and effective intrusion detection systems.
