Abstract
Vibrio vulnificus an opportunistic human pathogen native to marine/estuarine environment, is one of the leading causes of death due to seafood consumption and exposure of wounds to seawater worldwide. The present study involves the whole genome sequence analysis of an environmental strain of V. vulnificus (clinical genotype) isolated from seafood along the Mangaluru coast of India. The sequenced genome data was subjected to in-silico analysis of phylogeny, virulence genes, antimicrobial resistance determinants, and secretary proteins using suitable bioinformatics tools. The sequenced isolate had an overall genome length of 4.8 Mb and GC content of 46% with 4400 coding DNA sequences. The sequenced strain belongs to a new sequence type (Multilocus sequence typing) and was also found to branch with a phylogenetic lineage that groups the most infectious strains of V. vulnificus. The seafood isolate had complete genes involved in conferring serum resistance yet showed limited serum resistance. The study identified several genes against the antibiotics that are commonly used in their treatment, highlighting the need for alternative treatments. Also, the secretory protein analysis revealed genes associated with major pathways like ABC transporters, two-component systems, quorum sensing, biofilm formation, cationic antimicrobial peptide (CAMP) resistance, and others that play a critical role in the pathogenesis of the V. vulnificus. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a detailed analysis of the genomic information of a V. vulnificus isolated from the Indian subcontinent and provides evidence that raises public health concerns about the safety of seafood.

Abstract
This literature review presents major environmental indicators and their optimum variation ranges for the prevalence of Vibrio parahaemolyticus in the marine environment by critically reviewing and statistically analyzing more than one hundred studies from countries around the world. Results of this review indicated that the prevalence of Vibrio parahaemolyticus in the marine environment is primarily responsive to favorable environmental conditions that are described with environmental indicators. The importance of environmental indicators to the prevalence of Vibrio parahaemolyticus can be ranked from the highest to lowest as Sea Surface Temperature (SST), salinity, pH, chlorophyll a, and turbidity, respectively. It was also found in this study that each environmental indicator has an optimum variation range favoring the prevalence of Vibrio parahaemolyticus. Specifically, the SST range of 25.67 ± 2 °C, salinity range of 27.87 ± 3 ppt, and pH range of 7.96 ± 0.1 were found to be the optimum conditions for the prevalence of Vibrio parahaemolyticus. High vibrio concentrations were also observed in water samples with the chlorophyll a range of 16-25 μg/L. The findings provide new insights into the importance of environmental indicators and their optimum ranges, explaining not only the existence of both positive and negative associations reported in the literature but also the dynamic associations between the Vibrio presence and its environmental drivers.

Abstract
Background Vibrio vulnificus infections develop rapidly and are associated with a high mortality rate. The rates of diagnosis and treatment are directly associated with mortality. Case presentation We describe an unusual case of a 61-year-old male patient with chronic liver disease and diabetes who presented with a chief complaint of pain in both lower legs due to V. vulnificus infection in winter. Within 12 h of arrival, typical skin lesions appeared, and the patient rapidly developed primary sepsis. Despite prompt appropriate antibiotic and surgical treatment, the patient died 16 days after admission. Conclusion Our case findings suggest that V. vulnificus infection should be suspected in patients with an unclear infection status experiencing pain of unknown origin in the lower legs, particularly in patients with liver disease or diabetes, immunocompromised status, and alcoholism.
