Abstract
BACKGROUND The emergence of biological agents and small molecule drugs has revolutionized the treatment landscape for psoriasis, yet there remains a lack of systematic reviews elucidating the efficacy and safety of drugs for patients with psoriasis and mental disorders (MDs). The aim was to systemically evaluate the efficacy and safety of FDA-approved psoriasis drugs on MD symptoms and MD drugs on psoriasis symptoms. METHODS We conducted comprehensive literature searches of the PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library from inception to March 24, 2024, identifying 116 relevant studies for inclusion. RESULTS Our review encompasses 62 clinical trials and 54 case reports/series. Analyses of clinical trials revealed a positive impact of psoriasis drugs on MD, with notable exceptions including lithium and benzodiazepine receptor agonists, which exhibited adverse effects on psoriasis. Furthermore, analysis of case reports/series highlighted the efficacy of drugs such as apremilast, etanercept, infliximab, and secukinumab in ameliorating MD symptoms, contrasting with detrimental effects observed with methotrexate (MTX), cyclosporine, adalimumab, and secukinumab. Notably, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) inhibitors and interleukin inhibitors demonstrated superior efficacy compared to conventional treatments. In the anxiety group, secukinumab showed the largest effective size as assessed by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale - Anxiety (HADS-A) index; In the depression group, ixekizumab showed the largest effective size assessed by the 16-item Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomology - Self-Report (QIDS-SR16) index. LIMITATIONS The extracted data cannot be meta-analyzed, as the measurement scale is not uniform. CONCLUSIONS This systematic review provides robust evidence regarding treatment options for individuals with psoriasis and MD, emphasizing the potential benefits of specific drugs in managing both conditions concurrently.

Abstract
Neuropsychiatric disorders present a global challenge to public health. Mechanisms associated with neuropsychiatric disorders etiology include apoptosis, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation. Tumor necrosis factor alpha, an inflammatory cytokine, mediates pathophysiology of neuropsychiatric disorders. Therefore, its inhibition by infliximab might afford a valuable target for intervention. Infliximab is commonly used to treat inflammatory diseases, including ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, and rheumatoid arthritis. Recently, it has been shown that infliximab improves cognitive dysfunction, depression, anxiety, and life quality. Here, we review contemporary knowledge supporting the need to further characterize infliximab as a potential treatment for neuropsychiatric disorders.

Abstract
Over 60% of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients achieve a good response after 12 months of treatment when following the European league against rheumatism (EULAR) guidelines for treatment. However, almost half of patients still suffer from moderate to severe disease activity despite this. In addition, mental health problems may remain despite reduced measures of inflammation systemically and within joints. Depression is two times more common in RA patients than in the general population, and intriguingly a bi-directional relationship with RA has been shown in cross-sectional studies. Chronic inflammation impairs the physiological responses to stress including effective coping behaviours, resulting in depression, which leads to a worse long-term outcome in RA. In RA patients, the pain score is not always solely related to inflammatory arthritis and immunological disease activity by Bąk et al. (Patient Prefer Adherence 13:223-231, [1]). Non-inflammatory pain secondary to anxiety, depression, sleep disturbance and the psychosocial situation needs to be considered whilst fibromyalgia, mechanical pain and neuropathic pain can also contribute to overall pain scores by Chancay et al. (Women's Midlife Health 5:3, [2]). Hence, the UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guideline for the management of RA included psychological interventions for fatigue, low mood and social well-being (NICE NG100, 2018) [3], and the NICE clinical guidelines (CG91) [4] suggest managing mental health and depression in chronic medical conditions to improve treatment outcomes. This is a narrative review of the impact of mental health on RA disease activity in terms of patient-reported outcomes (PROs).

Abstract
Objective This study aims to investigate the effects of conventional and biological drugs used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) on patients' quality of life, depression, and anxiety. Materials and Methods A total of 80 patients with a diagnosis of RA based on the American College of Rheumatology/Annual European Congress of Rheumatology (ACR/EULAR) 2010 diagnostic criteria were included in the study. Patients were classified into two groups as follows: patients using conventional disease-modifying agents (csDMARDs) alone (Group 1, n=40) and patients using biological disease-modifying agents (bDMARDs) and a csDMARD combination (Group 2, n=40). Demographical patient data were collected. The levels of rheumatoid factor (RF) and anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) were measured in both groups. All patients completed the Disease Activity Score (DAS28), Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ), Short Form-36 (SF-36), Beck Depression Scale (BDS), and Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale (HADS). Results There was no significant difference between the two groups of patients regarding their demographical characteristics, autoantibody positivity, or DAS scores (p>0.05). HAQ scores and all parameters and summary scores of the SF-36, BDS, and HADS scores were not significantly different between the two groups (p>0.05). Conclusion Results of the present study showed that csDMARDs and bDMARDs, which required a more invasive administration and were associated with serious side effects, were not superior to each other in terms of their effects on patients' quality of life. csDMARD and bDMARD were also not superior to each other regarding their effects on anxiety and depression among patients with RA.

Objective The objective of this study was to investigate the factors associated with depression, including serum oxytocin (OXT) levels, disease activity, activities of daily living (ADL), and quality of life (QOL), and their effects on rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods This study included 42 RA patients who received treatment with a biological agent. We measured the following variables before and after 6 months of treatment: baseline characteristics, including age, sex, disease duration, smoking, and body mass index (BMI); prednisolone and methotrexate dose; serum level of matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3); erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR); and C-reactive protein (CRP) level. The disease activity of RA was assessed using the Simplified Disease Activity Index (SDAI); depression was assessed using the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D); ADL was assessed using the Health Assessment Questionnaire; and QOL was assessed using the Short Form (SF)-36. Serum OXT levels were determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results The HAM-D score significantly correlated with the SDAI, and the mental component summary (MCS) score of SF-36. However, the serum OXT levels did not correlate with the HAM-D score. Regression analysis using the HAM-D score as the objective variable identified female sex, smoking, BMI, and all the three component scores of SF-36, but not serum OXT levels, as significant factors. Comparisons between before and after treatment showed that the HAM-D score improved from 5 to 1.5; however, the serum OXT levels did not change. Conclusion The variables of female sex, smoking, BMI, and QOL correlated with depression complicated with RA. However, serum OXT levels did not correlate directly.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the relationship between baseline factors and depression remission after a 6-month biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (bDMARDs) treatment in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. METHODS The study was conducted in 152 RA patients treated with bDMARDs. The following patient's characteristics were studied: gender, age, disease duration, baseline prednisolone dosage, and serum matrix metalloproteinase3 (MMP3) levels. For assessment, we used the simple disease activity index (SDAI) for RA disease activity, Health Assessment Questionnaire Disability Index (HAQ-DI) for activities of daily living (ADL), Short Form-36 for nonspecific health-related quality of life (QOL), and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D) scores for the depression status. Depressed remission was clarified using HAM-D ≤7 after 6 months of treatment. The patients were divided into two groups according to the presence or absence of depression, and a retrospective study was conducted. RESULTS Based on binominal logistic analyses, RA patients' with depression remission (n=124) compared to those without depression remission (n=28) had a younger age (p=0.0045, odd ratio: 0.94, 95% confidence interval [CI]:0.8-0.98), female sex (p=0.021, odd ratio:0.21, 95% CI:0.054-0.79), and lower HAM-D scores (p=0.0073, odd ratio:0.85, 95% CI:0.76-0.96) CONCLUSION: It was proposed that RA patients who are females, younger in age, and have lower depressed scores at baseline can achieve a depression remission status with the bDMARDs treatment.

The serum OXT levels before and after bDMARDs treatment did not differ to a statistically significant extent, regardless of the presence of depression. Although the differences in the serum levels of OXT were observed prior to the initiation of treatment, there was no gender difference after treatment. Conclusion Although RA complicated by depression may be related to the following high disease activity, a poor QOL and poor ADLs, the serum OXT levels were not directly correlated.

Abstract
Cytokines, including interleukin-6 (IL-6), modulate neuronal plasticity and stress coping. Depressive symptoms and major depressive disorder (MDD) have been associated with changes in cytokines and their signaling. The current study examined the effect of IL-6 monoclonal antibody administration on depressive symptoms in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or multicentric Castleman's disease (MCD). The data were obtained from two phase 2, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials designed to test the efficacy of sirukumab in RA (N=176) or of siltuximab in MCD (N=65), and were analyzed post hoc to investigate the effects of these IL-6 antibodies on depressive symptoms. The SF-36 questionnaire items on depressed-mood and anhedonia were combined as the measure for depressive symptoms. The study participants were grouped by the presence/absence of prevalent depressed mood and anhedonia (PDMA, meaning either depressed mood or anhedonia was present at least 'most of the time' and the other at least 'some of the time' for four weeks) at baseline; 26.1% of the RA sample and 15.4% of the MCD sample met criteria for PDMA at baseline. Compared with placebo, sirukumab and siltuximab produced significantly greater improvements on depressive symptoms. To account for an effect on mood due to changes in RA or MCD, the analysis was (1) adjusted for symptom severities using DAS28-CRP for RA and MCDOS for MCD alone or together with bodily pain and physical functioning, and (2) performed within RA and MCD non-responders. Improvement in depressive symptoms remained significant in the treated group for both drugs. The significance over placebo was also observed in the siltuximab study. The improvement in depressive symptoms by sirukumab correlated positively with the baseline soluble IL-6 receptor levels. The data together suggest that the IL-6 antibodies improve depressive symptoms in patients with RA and MCD. Further studies are needed to elucidate to what extents the IL-6 antibodies improve depressive symptoms through improving primary disease dependent and independent mechanisms, especially in RA patients, and the brain mechanisms underlying depressive symptom improvements.
