Abstract
A new series of 6-(pyrrolidin-1-ylsulfonyl)-[1,3]dithiolo[4,5-b]quinoxaline-2-ylidines 10a-f, 12, 14, 16, and 18 were designed, synthesized, and evaluated for their in vitro anticancer activity. The structures of the novel compounds were systematically characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and elemental analysis. The synthesized derivatives were evaluated for their in vitro antiproliferative activity against three human cancer cell lines (HepG-2, HCT-116, and MCF-7) with more sensitivity to MCF-7. Moreover, three derivatives 10c, 10f, and 12 were the most promising candidates with sub-micromole values. These derivatives were further evaluated against MDA-MB-231, and the results displayed significant IC50 values ranging from 2.26 ± 0.1 to 10.46 ± 0.8 μM and showed low cellular cytotoxicity against WI-38. Surprisingly, the most active derivative 12 revealed sensitivity towards the breast cell lines MCF-7 (IC50 = 3.82 ± 0.2 μM) and MDA-MB-231 (IC50 = 2.26 ± 0.1 μM) compared with doxorubicin (IC50 = 4.17 ± 0.2 and 3.18 ± 0.1 M). Cell cycle analysis showed that compound 12 arrests and inhibits the growth of MCF-7 cells in the S phase with values of 48.16% compared with the untreated control 29.79% and exhibited a significantly higher apoptotic effect in MCF-7 with a value of 42.08% compared to control cell at 1.84%. Furthermore, compound 12 decreased Bcl-2 protein 0.368-fold and activation on pro-apoptotic genes Bax and P53 by 3.97 and 4.97 folds, respectively, in MCF-7 cells. Compound 12 exhibited higher inhibitory activity to EGFRWt, EGFRL858R, and VEGFR-2 with IC50 values (0.19 ± 0.009, 0.026 ± 0.001, and 0.42 ± 0.021 μM) compared with erlotinib (IC50 = 0.037 ± 0.002 and 0.026 ± 0.001 μM) and sorafenib (IC50 = 0.035 ± 0.002 μM). Finally, in silico ADMET prediction presented that 1,3-dithiolo[4,5-b]quinoxaline derivative 12 obeys the Lipinski rule of five and the Veber rule with no PAINs alarms and moderately soluble properties. Additionally, toxicity prediction revealed that compound 12 demonstrated inactivity to hepatotoxic carcinogenicity, immunotoxicity, mutagenicity, and cytotoxicity. Moreover, molecular docking studies showed good binding affinity with lower binding energy inside the active site of Bcl-2 (PDB: 4AQ3), EGFR (PDB: 1M17), and VEGFR (PDB: 4ASD).

Abstract
The nutrition and active compounds from plants are very important to regulate the immunity of the body by improving the oxidant and inflammatory response. In this article, we aimed to investigate the nutritional profile and the phytochemical compositions of Adonis coerulea; the functional characteristics and its possible mechanism were studied. Results showed that the aerial parts of Adonis coerulea (ACAP) contained the abundant of proteins (16.15%) and the minerals (31.02.09 mg/100 g dried ACAP); promisingly, the content of essential amino acids (8.25%) and fatty acids (13,220.45 mg/100 g) also were obtained to regulate the immunity and prevent some chronic diseases. The methanol extract of ACAP played the anti-inflammatory activity via peroxisome proliferators-activated receptor (PPAR)-γ-mediated nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) pathway. Among the 18 identified compounds, linolenic acid from fatty acids and licochalcone A were active compounds by inhibiting nitric oxide (NO) production of RAW264.7 cells induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The alleviation of inflammatory response results in the decrease of oxidative stress; ACAP showed the antioxidant activity by attenuating antioxidant enzymes, improving mitochondrial membrane potential and reactive oxygen species. These results highlight the potential of A. coerulea as a source of active ingredients in pharmaceutical industries.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cleistocalyx nervosum var. paniala is a local fruit mainly cultivated in the north of Thailand. Our previous study has reported that the methanol extract of C. nervosum seed presented antimutagenicity in a Salmonella mutation assay. The present study focused on the effect of a low-polar extract of C. nervosum seed on the early stages of diethylnitrosamine (DEN)- and dimethylhydrazine (DMH)-induced carcinogenesis in rats. METHODS Dried C. nervosum seed powder was extracted using dichloromethane. To study its effect on the initiation stage of carcinogenesis of rats, they were fed with various doses of C. nervosum seed extract (CSE) for 21 days. DEN injection was used to initiate hepatocarcinogenesis and partial hepatectomy was performed to amplify mutated hepatocytes resulting in micronucleated hepatocyte formation. To study the role of CSE on the promotion stage, rats were injected with DEN and DMH to induce preneoplastic lesions and the numbers of glutathione S-transferase placental form (GST-P) positive foci in the liver and aberrant crypt foci (ACF) in the colon were measured. This was followed by CSE administration for 10 weeks. The inhibitory mechanisms of CSE on initiation and promotion stages, including xenobiotic metabolism, cell proliferation and apoptosis, were investigated. RESULTS The total phenolic content in CSE was 80.34 ± 2.29 mg gallic acid equivalents (GAE) per g of extract and 2,4'-dihydroxy-6'-methoxy-3',5'-dimethylchalcone was found to be a major flavonoid. The main terpenoids in CSE were β-selinene, α-selinene, γ-selinene and o-cymene while 24(Z)-methyl-25-homocholesterol was a major phytosterol. CSE significantly decreased the number of micronucleated hepatocytes in DEN-initiated rats and enhanced the activities of hepatic glutathione S-transferase and UDP-glucuronyltransferase. Furthermore, the formation of preneoplastic lesions in the liver and colon was statistically reduced by CSE. CSE also diminished cell proliferation in the liver and colon indicated by the number of PCNA positive cells. However, CSE did not alter the numbers of apoptotic hepatocytes and colonocytes in DEN- and DMH-initiated rats. CONCLUSIONS The dichloromethane extract of C. nervosum seed demonstrated chemopreventive effects on chemically-induced carcinogenesis in both initiation and promotion stages in rats. The inhibitory mechanism might be involved in the modulation of hepatic detoxifying enzymes and suppression of hepatocyte and colonocyte proliferation.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSD) represent a cluster of severe mental illnesses. Diet has been identified as a modifiable risk factor and opportunity for intervention in many physical illnesses and more recently in mental illnesses such as unipolar depression; however, no dietary guidelines exist for patients with SSD. OBJECTIVE This review sought to systematically scope the existing literature in order to identify nutritional interventions for the prevention or treatment of mental health symptoms in SSD as well as gaps and opportunities for further research. METHODS This review followed established methodological approaches for scoping reviews including an extensive a priori search strategy and duplicate screening. Because of the large volume of results, an online program (Abstrackr) was used for screening and tagging. Data were extracted based on the dietary constituents and analyzed. RESULTS Of 55,330 results identified by the search, 822 studies met the criteria for inclusion. Observational evidence shows a connection between the presence of psychotic disorders and poorer quality dietary patterns, higher intake of refined carbohydrates and total fat, and lower intake or levels of fibre, ω-3 and ω-6 fatty acids, vegetables, fruit, and certain vitamins and minerals (vitamin B12 and B6, folate, vitamin C, zinc, and selenium). Evidence illustrates a role of food allergy and sensitivity as well as microbiome composition and specific phytonutrients (such as L-theanine, sulforaphane, and resveratrol). Experimental studies have demonstrated benefit using healthy diet patterns and specific vitamins and minerals (vitamin B12 and B6, folate, and zinc) and amino acids (serine, lysine, glycine, and tryptophan). DISCUSSION Overall, these findings were consistent with many other bodies of knowledge about healthy dietary patterns. Many limitations exist related to the design of the individual studies and the ability to extrapolate the results of studies using dietary supplements to dietary interventions (food). Dietary recommendations are presented as well as recommendations for further research including more prospective observational studies and intervention studies that modify diet constituents or entire dietary patterns with statistical power to detect mental health outcomes.

Abstract
Health-threatening consequences of carcinogen exposure are mediated via occurrence of electrophiles or reactive oxygen species. As a result, the accumulation of biomolecular damage leads to the cancer initiation, promotion or progression. Accordingly, there is an association between lifestyle factors including inappropriate diet or carcinogen formation during food processing, mainstream, second or third-hand tobacco smoke and other environmental or occupational carcinogens and malignant transformation. Nevertheless, increasing evidence supports the protective effects of naturally occurring phytochemicals against carcinogen exposure as well as carcinogenesis in general. Isolated phytochemicals or their mixtures present in the whole plant food demonstrate efficacy against malignancy induced by carcinogens widely spread in our environment. Phytochemicals also minimize the generation of carcinogenic substances during the processing of meat and meat products. Based on numerous data, selected phytochemicals or plant foods should be highly recommended to become a stable and regular part of the diet as the protectors against carcinogenesis.

Abstract
Most of the previous studies in last three decades report evidence of interactions between the different phytochemicals and the proteins involved in signal transduction pathways using in silico, in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo analyses. However, extrapolation of these findings for clinical purposes has not been that fruitful. The efficacy of the phytochemicals in vivo studies is limited by parameters such as solubility, metabolic degradation, excretion, etc. Various approaches have now been devised to circumvent these limitations. Recently, chemical modification of the phytochemicals are demonstrated to reduce some of the limitations and improve their efficacy. Similar to traditional medicines several combinatorial phytochemical formulations have shown to be more efficient. Further, phytochemicals have been reported to be even more efficient in the form of nanoparticles. However, systematic evaluation of their efficacy, mode of action in pathway modulation, usage and associated challenges is required to be done. The present review begins with basic understanding of how signaling cascades regulate cellular response and the consequences of their dysregulation further summarizing the developments and problems associated with the dietary phytochemicals and also discuss recent approaches in strengthening these compounds in pharmacological applications. Only context relevant studies have been reviewed. Considering the limitations and scope of the article, authors do not claim inclusion of all the early and recent studies.

Abstract
Herein we report the design, synthesis, molecular docking study and evaluation of antimicrobial activity of ten new dithioloquinolinethiones. The structures of compounds were confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR and HPLC-HRMS. Before evaluation of their possible antimicrobial activity prediction of toxicity was performed. All compounds showed antibacterial activity against eight Gram positive and Gram negative bacterial species. All compounds appeared to be more active than ampicillin and almost all than streptomycin. The best antibacterial activity was observed for compound 8c 4,4,8-trimethyl-5-{[(4-phenyl-5-thioxo-4,5-dihydro-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)thio]acetyl}-4,5-dihydro-1H-[1,2]dithiolo[3,4c]quino lone-1-thione). The most sensitive bacterium En.cloacae followed by S. aureus, while L.monocytogenes was the most resistant. All compounds were tested for antifungal activity also against eight fungal species. The best activity was expressed by compound 8d (5-[(4,5-Dihydro-1,3-thiazol-2-ylthio)acetyl]-4,4-dimethyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-[1,2]dithiolo[3,4-c]quinoline-1-thione). The most sensitive fungal was T. viride, while P. verrucosum var. cyclopium was the most resistant one. All compounds were more potent as antifungal agent than reference compound bifonazole and ketoconazole. The docking studies indicated a probable involvement of E. coli DNA GyrB inhibition in the anti-bacterial mechanism, while CYP51ca inhibition is probably responsible for antifungal activity of tested compounds. It is interesting to mention that docking results coincides with experimental.

Abstract
Edible sprouts with germinating seeds of a few days of age are naturally rich in nutrients and other bioactive compounds. Among them, the cruciferous (Brassicaceae) sprouts stand out due to their high contents of glucosinolates (GLSs) and phenolic compounds. In order to obtain sprouts enriched in these phytochemicals, elicitation is being increasing used as a sustainable practice. Besides, the evidence regarding the bioavailability and the biological activity of these compounds after their dietary intake has also attracted growing interest in recent years, supporting the intake of the natural food instead of enriched ingredients or extracts. Also, there is a growing interest regarding their uses, consumption, and applications for health and wellbeing, in different industrial sectors. In this context, the present review aims to compile and update the available knowledge on the fundamental aspects of production, enrichment in composition, and the benefits upon consumption of diverse edible cruciferous sprouts, which are sources of phenolic compounds and glucosinolates, as well as the evidence on their biological actions in diverse pathophysiological situations and the molecular pathways involved.
