Abstract
Iron uptake, transport, and storage require the involvement of several proteins, including ferroportin (fpn), the sole known iron efflux transporter. Due to its critical function fpn has been studied, particularly in humans. Here, we characterized the ferroportin gene in common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) and performed RNA-seq analysis to evaluate its constitutive transcription levels across different tissues. Our results indicate that C. carpio possesses two functional fpns with distinct expression patterns, highlighting the potential for functional divergence and expression differentiation among fpns in this species.

Abstract
Serum ferritin levels serves as biomarkers in many inflammatory and infectious diseases. This current systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated whether serum ferritin levels are associated with severe dengue and its utility as a biomarker of disease severity. Literature searches were conducted in PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, the Cochrane library, and Google Scholar. A total of 18 studies examining the serum ferritin levels in dengue cases in the context of disease severity (nine studies having dengue classification as non-severe vs. severe dengue cases, and nine studies having dengue classification as dengue without warning signs (DwoWS), dengue with warning signs (DwWS), and severe dengue cases) were included and the quality of the studies was assessed using the Quality in Prognostic Factor Studies tool. The meta-analysis was performed using STATA software to calculate the effect size as a standardized mean difference (SMD) or Hedges 'g' for the continuous outcome. Higher serum ferritin levels were found in severe dengue cases compared to non-severe cases [SMD (Hedges 'g') 4.05 (95% C.I. 2.09-6.00), (I2 = 98.8%)]. In the second group, DwWS cases showed high serum ferritin levels compared to DwoWS [SMD 2.01 (95% C.I. 0.92-3.10), (I2 = 97.89%)], and severe dengue cases showed higher levels of serum ferritin compared to DwWS [SMD 2.66 (95% C.I. 1.72-4.48), (I2 = 98.78%)] and DwoWS cases [SMD 6.65 (95% C.I. 1.72-11.59), (I2 = 99.78%]. Subgroup analysis for the country of study (India vs. others), ferritin testing methods, and ferritin measurement day revealed testing method as a significant contributor to heterogeneity. To conclude, the present study suggests serum ferritin as a prognostic marker for dengue disease severity. Multi-centric studies involving a large number of dengue patients with a uniform case definition accounting for all the confounding variables might help in determining a universal cut-off value to discriminate between non-severe and severe dengue.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim: The purpose of this study is to find out the association between procalcitonin and hepcidin in patients with COVID-19, in addition to their role as diagnostic markers. PATIENTS AND METHODS Materials and methods: A total of 75 patients infected with coronavirus were included in the current study, their age is ranging between 20 to 78 years. Those patients was hospitalized in Al-Sadr Teaching Hospital in Najaf, in Iraq. This study also included 50 healthy subjects which are volunteers and considered as a (control group). Biomarker (procalcitonin and hepcidin) measurements were achieved by electrochemiluminescent immunoassay (ECLIA) in the Elecsys immunoassay system. RESULTS Results: The present study showed a significant increase the serum cencentration of hepcidin and procalcitonin in patients with COVID-19 as compared tohealthy subjects. There was a highly significant increasing(p < 0.01) in hepcidin and PCT level in patients with severe infection comparing to other catgaries.The current study also revealed that the sensitivity values of the markers were: 0.88%, 0.85 for procalcitonin and hepcidin respectively, which indicate high diagnostic power. CONCLUSION Conclusions: Serum levels of hepcidin and procalcitonin are increased as inflammatory markers in COVID-19 patients with relatively high sensitivity. It seems that these imflammatory markers obviously elevate in the severe cases COVID-19dusease.

Abstract
Heart failure (HF) is a common disease that causes significant limitations on the organism's capacity and, in extreme cases, leads to death. Clinically, iron deficiency (ID) plays an essential role in heart failure by deteriorating the patient's condition and is a prognostic marker indicating poor clinical outcomes. Therefore, in HF patients, supplementation of iron is recommended. However, iron treatment may cause adverse effects by increasing iron-related apoptosis and the production of oxygen radicals, which may cause additional heart damage. Furthermore, many knowledge gaps exist regarding the complex interplay between iron deficiency and heart failure. Here, we describe the current, comprehensive knowledge about the role of the proteins involved in iron metabolism. We will focus on the molecular and clinical aspects of iron deficiency in HF. We believe that summarizing the new advances in the translational and clinical research regarding iron deficiency in heart failure should broaden clinicians' awareness of this comorbidity.

Abstract
Ferritin is a known inflammatory biomarker in COVID-19. However, many factors and co-morbidities can confound the level of serum ferritin. This current metaanalysis evaluates serum ferritin level in different severity levels in COVID-19. Studies evaluating serum ferritin level in different clinical contexts (COVID-19 vs. control, mild to moderate vs. severe to critical, non-survivor vs. survivor, organ involvement, ICU and mechanical ventilation requirement) were included (total 9 literature databases searched). Metaanalysis and metaregression was carried out using metaphor “R” package. Compared to control (COVID-19 negative), higher ferritin levels were found among the COVID-19 patients [SMD −0.889 (95% C.I. −1.201, −0.577), I2 = 85%]. Severe to critical COVID-19 patients showed higher ferritin levels compared to mild to moderate COVID-19 patients [SMD 0.882 (0.738, 1.026), I2 = 85%]. In meta-regression, high heterogeneity was observed could be attributed to difference in “mean age”, and “percentage of population with concomitant co-morbidities”. Non-survivors had higher serum ferritin level compared to survivors [SMD 0.992 (0.672, 1.172), I2 = 92.33%]. In meta-regression, high heterogeneity observed could be attributed to difference in “mean age” and “percentage of male sex”. Patients requiring ICU [SMD 0.674 (0.515 to 0.833), I2 = 80%] and mechanical ventilation [SMD 0.430 (0.258, 0.602), I2 = 32%] had higher serum ferritin levels compared to those who didn't. To conclude, serum ferritin level may serve as an important biomarker which can aid in COVID-19 management. However, presence of other co-morbid conditions/confounders warrants cautious interpretation.
