Abstract
Objective Gastric cancer (GC) is a high-risk tumor disease worldwide. The goal of the current study was to explore new diagnostic and prognostic indicators for gastric cancer. Methods Database GSE19826 and GSE103236 were gained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) to screen for differentially expressed genes (DEGs), which were then grouped together as co-DEGs. GO and KEGG pathway analysis were used to investigate the function of these genes. The protein-protein interaction (PPI) network of DEGs was constructed by STRING. Results GSE19826 selected 493 DEGs in GC and gastric normal tissues, including 139 up-regulated genes and 354 down-regulated genes. A total of 478 DEGs were selected by GSE103236, including 276 up-regulated genes and 202 downregulated genes. 32 co-DEGs were overlapped from two databasesand involved in digestion, regulation of response to wounding, wound healing, potassium ion imports across plasma membrane, regulation of wound healing, anatomical structure homeostasis, and tissue homeostasis. KEGG analysis revealed that co-DEGs were mainly involved in ECM-receptor interaction, tight junction, protein digestion and absorption, gastric acid secretion and cell adhesion molecules. Twelve hub genes were screened by Cytoscape, including cholecystokinin B receptor (CCKBR), Collagen type I alpha 1 (COL1A1), COL1A2, COL2A1, COL6A3, COL11A1, matrix metallopeptidase 1 (MMP1), MMP3, MMP7, MMP10, tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloprotease 1 (TIMP1) and secreted phosphoprotein 1 (SPP1). Conclusions Twelve key genes affecting the progression of gastric cancer were obtained by bioinformatics, which may be potential biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis of GC.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the association between single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in mir146a and mir196a and bladder cancer (BLCA) risk in Taiwan. The genotypes of mir146a rs2910164 and mir196a rs11614913 were determined in 375 BLCA patients and 375 healthy controls using PCR-RFLP methodology, and their associations with BLCA risk were evaluated. The study also measured the serum expression level of mir146a using quantitative RT-PCR. The results showed that the distributions of CC, CG and GG genotypes of mir146a rs2910164 were 31.7%, 45.6% and 22.7% in the control group, and 21.9%, 44.3% and 33.8% in the case group, respectively. In logistic regression analyses, the heterozygous variant genotype CG carriers showed a marginally significant association with increased BLCA risk (OR = 1.41, 95% CI = 0.99-2.01), while the homozygous variant genotype GG carriers had a 2.17-fold increased risk of BLCA (OR = 2.17, 95%CI = 1.46-3.21). Moreover, carriers of the GG/CG genotypes had significantly higher serum levels of mir146a than those with the CC genotype (p < 0.0001), indicating a genotype-phenotype correlation. In contrast, mir196a rs11614913 was not associated with BLCA risk. Therefore, the genotypes of mir146a rs2910164 may serve as a useful biomarker for predicting the risk of BLCA.

Abstract
(1) Background. Breast cancer is the leading cancer type among women. Despite convenient diagnostics at early stages, there is a need for continuous monitoring to predict more aggressive or recurring breast cancer forms. The evidence suggests that the detection of genetic biomarkers could help in improving disease management and reduce mortality. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a large family of enzymes that perform physiologically relevant functions and have the potential properties to be biomarkers for cancer assessment. We aimed to evaluate the contribution and association of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in MMP genes (MMP1, MMP2, MMP3, MMP7, MMP8, MMP9) with clinicopathological breast-cancer features. (2) Methods. In this study, 100 breast cancer patients were genotyped by polymerase chain reaction–restriction fragment length polymorphism methodology (PCR–RFLP). (3) Results. The presence of the MMP7 rs11568818 A allele was associated with lower chances for poorly differentiated breast cancer. The lower possibility for HER2-positive breast cancer was associated with the presence of the MMP9 rs3918242 C allele. (4) Conclusions. These results indicate that MMP7 rs11568818 and MMP9 rs3918242 are potential biomarkers for the anticipation of breast cancer aggressiveness.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic inflammation is an important risk factor in the development of bladder cancer. It may stimulate growth and metastasis of cancer cells. The inflammatory process includes MMP activities and expression. MMP activation can be stimulated by various inflammatory cells. Pathological processes such as bladder cancer may occur due to imbalance in MMP activities. In our study, we aimed to determine the relationship between MMP-1, MMP-3 gene variations associated with chronic inflammation and the bladder cancer development. METHODS Our study was carried out with 89 bladder cancer patients and 78 healthy controls. PCR-RFLP methods were applied to determine MMP-1 and MMP-3 gene variations genotype distributions. RESULTS 1G/1G homozygous and 1G/2G heterozygous genotypes of MMP-1 gene variation were determined more in patients than controls. The 5A/5A homozygous and 5A/6A heterozygous genotypes of the MMP-3 gene variation were detected more in patients than controls. The significant difference was detected in terms of genotype distributions of MMP-1 and MMP-3 gene variations between these groups (p < 0.05). In addition to, the most common haplotype in the patient group were detected as 1G/2G-5A/6A (20.22%). CONCLUSION In this study, MMP-1 and MMP-3 gene variations were determined as possible genetic risk factors for bladder cancer development in the Thrace population.
