Abstract
BACKGROUND Women undergoing caesarean section (CS) experience difficulties when preparing for discharge, and readiness for hospital discharge (RHD) may depend on individual characteristics. OBJECTIVE To explore the status of RHD in women with CS, identify the latent classes of RHD, and analyse predictors from a bio-psycho-social perspective. METHODS A sample of 410 women with CS completed the following questionnaires on demographic and obstetric characteristics: Readiness for Hospital Discharge Study-New Mother Form (RHDS-NMF), Parents' Postnatal Sense of Security (PPSS), Quality of Discharge Teaching Scale (OB-QDTS), and Postpartum Support Questionnaire (PSQ). Latent profile analysis was used to identify the latent classes of RHD. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to analyse the predictors. RESULTS In total, 96.6 % of women with CS reported discharge ready, and the score of RHDS-NMF was 136.09 ± 25.59. Three latent classes were identified as Low RHD (16.1 %), Moderate RHD (41.7 %), and High RHD (42.2 %). Primiparas (OR = 2.867 / 1.773; P = 0.012 / 0.033), emergency CS (OR = 3.134 / 2.470; P = 0.006 / 0.002), lower levels of PPSS (OR = 0.909 / 0.942; P = 0.009 / 0.013) and OB-ODTS (OR = 0.948 / 0.975; P < 0.001) were associated with Moderate and Low RHD. Lower PSQ predicted a higher probability of Low RHD (OR = 0.955; P = 0.038). CONCLUSIONS The perception of RHD by women in the study was inaccurate, with more than half not being classified as High RHD. Healthcare professionals can anticipate interventions for maternal well-being based on the characteristics of the different RHD classes.

Abstract
Background The association of caesarean section (CS) for postpartum depression (PPD) remains controversial. This study aims to explore the relationship between CS and the risk of PPD, in order to provide a basis for preventing PPD. Material and methods We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and EMBASE databases for literature about the correlation between CS and PPD published as of February 2024. The combined odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (Cls) were obtained by flexible use of fixed-effects models or random-effects models. Results A total of 18 publications were ultimately included in the analysis. Among these, 14 were cohort studies and 4 were case-control reports, encompassing 844,328 total cases. All of the included studies were deemed to be of moderate or higher quality. The meta-analysis indicated that the prevalence of PPD among parturients undergoing CS was 13.4% (95% CI: 6.5%-25.5%).The adjusted odds ratio (OR) for the association between CS and PPD was 1.12 (95% CI: 1.04-1.20) compared to the natural vaginal delivery (NVD) group. Specifically, the adjusted OR for the association between CS and PPD was 1.29 (95% CI: 1.18-1.40) during the first 1-6 months postpartum, and 1.23 (95% CI: 1.14-1.33) after 6 months postpartum. Furthermore, in comparison to the NVD group, the adjusted OR for elective caesarean section (ELCS) and emergency caesarean section (EMCS) were 0.96 (0.83, 1.10) and 1.20 (1.08, 1.34), respectively. Conclusion Our findings suggest that PPD risk may rise in the presence of CS. In particular, the risk was increased by 20% in the EMCS group, and the risk of PPD within one to six months postpartum after CS increases by 6% compared to that at six months postpartum. In the future, more rational designs and in-depth studies are needed to obtain more accurate information. Abstract
Background This study was conducted to explore the association between postpartum depression (PPD) and mode of delivery in pregnant women. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted in the western region of Saudi Arabia, among 173 women from the general population who met the inclusion criteria and participated in the study from April to September 2022. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) was used to assess PPD. Statistical analysis was performed using R version 3.6.3 (R Foundation for Statistical Computing, Vienna, Austria). Counts and percentages were used for categorical variables, and means ± standard deviation were used for continuous variables. Hypothesis testing was done at a significance level of 5%. Results It was reported by 59.5% of the respondents to be having depression. Compared to respondents who reported elective cesarean or natural delivery, those who reported emergency cesarean delivery had significantly higher average EPDS scores (p = 0.036). Positive correlations were found between depression scores and all Postpartum Bonding Questionnaire (PBQ) subscales, suggesting that higher PBQ subscale scores were associated with a greater risk of depression as determined by the EPDS questionnaire. In addition, a higher prevalence of PPD was associated with the presence of chronic illnesses (p = 0.016). Conclusion Our study indicated that although there was no correlation between mode of delivery and PPD, emergency cesarean section could contribute to PPD. Furthermore, other factors such as chronic illness and educational level can affect the risk of PPD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Postpartum depression (PPD) results in adverse consequences for both mother and infant. However, the association between multiple pregnancy and PPD is unknown because of the difference in the estimated prevalence rate of PPD based on country, ethnicity, and study type. Thus, this study aimed to determine whether Japanese women with multiple pregnancy were at a high risk of developing PPD at 1 and 6 months postpartum. METHODS In this nationwide prospective cohort study (the Japan Environment and Children's Study), conducted between January 2011 and March 2014, 77,419 pregnant women were enrolled. PPD was assessed using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) 1 and 6 months postpartum. A score of ≥13 points implied "positive" for PPD. Multiple logistic regression analyses estimated the association between multiple pregnancy and PPD risk. RESULTS Overall, 77,419 pregnancies (singleton, n = 76,738; twins, n = 676; triplets, n = 5) were included; 3.6 % and 2.9 % of pregnant women had PPD at 1 and 6 months postpartum, respectively. Compared with singleton pregnancy, multiple pregnancy was not associated with PPD at 1 month, but at 6 months postpartum (adjusted odd ratios: 0.968 [95 % confidence interval {CI}, 0.633-1.481] and 1.554 [95 % CI, 1.046-2.308], respectively). LIMITATIONS 1) Some potential PPD risk factors could not be evaluated, 2) PPD was not diagnosed by psychiatrists, and 3) depressive symptoms at 6 months postpartum were considered PPD; however, definitions may vary. CONCLUSIONS Japanese women with multiple pregnancy may be regarded as a target group for follow-up and postpartum depression screening for at least 6 months during the initial postpartum period.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Postpartum depression (PPD) is a general depressive episode after childbirth. Studies have shown that unmatched analgesic intention increases the risk of PPD, but the use of labor epidural analgesia (LEA) during childbirth can reduce this risk. We aimed to investigate the association between maternal childbirth intention, LEA, and PPD and risk factors that may be related to PPD. METHODS A total of 590 mothers were included in this prospective cohort study. Demographic, prenatal, intrapartum and postpartum data were recorded. We investigated the association between childbirth intention, LEA and PPD and assessed the interactions between two factors. Logistic regression analysis was used to screen variables that might be associated with the occurrence of PPD. RESULTS Overall, 130 of 451 women completing the study at 3 months had PPD (28.8 %). We did not find an association between unmatched childbirth intention, use of LEA and PPD (adjustOR = 0.684 CI 0.335-1.396, p = 0.296; adjustOR = 0.892, CI 0.508-1.565, p = 0.690). Chronic pain affecting daily life, prenatal EPDS, SAS, SSRS score, family accompaniment during labor, and 1-day numerical rating scale (NRS) score were significantly associated with PPD (p < 0.05). LIMITATIONS In the 3-month follow-up, we only recorded the EPDS score, not the pain score, and did not evaluate the association between postpartum chronic pain and PPD. CONCLUSIONS The association between maternal childbirth intention, LEA and PPD was not significant. Chronic pain affecting daily life, prenatal EPDS, SAS, SSRS score, family accompaniment during labor, and 1-day NRS score were significantly related to the occurrence of PPD (p < 0.05).

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of the study is to analyse the risk of postpartum depression using dimensions of perceived support (information, emotional, and physical), antenatal education (satisfaction and attitude), and attitude toward pregnancy (wanted or unwanted). METHODS A cross-sectional study was carried out among 584 postpartum women in two university birth centres in Slovakia. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) score was used. Descriptive statistics and analysis of variance, as well as logistic regression, were employed in the study. Found associations were adjusted for education level, type of birth, psychiatric history, and age. RESULTS As many as 95.1% of women reported their pregnancy as being wanted. Antenatal education, particularly satisfaction with it, showed a negative association with the EPDS score level. No significant differences in depression levels were found considering attitude toward pregnancy and perceived support. CONCLUSIONS The study pointed out the significance of antenatal education to lower the risk of the postpartum depression. One of the important criteria of effective education is a woman's subjective satisfaction with it.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Postpartum depression (PPD) presents a serious health problem among women and their families. Machine learning (ML) is a rapidly advancing field with increasing utility in predicting PPD risk. We aimed to synthesize and evaluate the quality of studies on application of ML techniques in predicting PPD risk. METHODS We conducted a systematic search of eight databases, identifying English and Chinese studies on ML techniques for predicting PPD risk and ML techniques with performance metrics. Quality of the studies involved was evaluated using the Prediction Model Risk of Bias Assessment Tool. RESULTS Seventeen studies involving 62 prediction models were included. Supervised learning was the main ML technique employed and the common ML models were support vector machine, random forest and logistic regression. Five studies (30 %) reported both internal and external validation. Two studies involved model translation, but none were tested clinically. All studies showed a high risk of bias, and more than half showed high application risk. LIMITATIONS Including Chinese articles slightly reduced the reproducibility of the review. Model performance was not quantitatively analyzed owing to inconsistent metrics and the absence of methods for correlation meta-analysis. CONCLUSIONS Researchers have paid more attention to model development than to validation, and few have focused on improvement and innovation. Models for predicting PPD risk continue to emerge. However, few have achieved the acceptable quality standards. Therefore, ML techniques for successfully predicting PPD risk are yet to be deployed in clinical environments.

Abstract
BackgroundPostpartum depression (PPD) has adverse effects on maternal and child health. Cesarean section (CS) is suggested to be associated with PPD, but no study has examined the risk factors for PPD in women who underwent CS. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate this association.MethodsA prospective observational study was conducted between December 2020 and September 2021. In total, 590 women who underwent elective CS participated in this study. Data were collected using a questionnaire through a face-to-face interview at three time points: 32nd week of gestation, 2 days postpartum, and 6 weeks postpartum. PPD was defined by an Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) score of ≥ 11 at 6 weeks postpartum. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the risk factors for PPD.ResultsAmong the 590 women, 25.4% had PPD (142/590). After adjustment for the confounding factors, high antenatal self-rating anxiety scale score (OR = 1.10, 95% CI = 1.04–1.16), PPD symptoms (EPDS ≥ 11) at 2 days postpartum (OR = 6.17, 95% CI = 1.35–28.31), and pain at 6 weeks postpartum (OR = 2.14, 95% CI = 1.24–3.69) were independently associated with PPD.ConclusionPrenatal anxiety, PPD symptoms occurring at an early postoperative stage, and pain at 6 weeks postpartum may be associated with an increased risk of PPD among women who undergo CS.

Abstract
Whether the mode of birth delivery correlates with the incidence of postpartum depression (PPD) is still under debate. This study seeks to clarify such a correlation and to further investigate if there are any differences in the likelihood of PPD medical care use among women with and without a history of depression. A logistic regression at two assessment points (6-month and 12-month postpartum) on the National Health Insurance Database in Taiwan is performed. In total, 32,729 women were included who gave first birth from 2007 to 2011 via cesarean section (CS), elective CS, and vaginal delivery, of whom 3580 (10.9%) were diagnosed with a history of depression. Findings show that CS was associated with a higher likelihood of PPD doctor visits regardless of whether the women have a history of depression or not, but elective CS tended to have different impacts for these two groups of women. Mentally healthy women who experienced elective CS had 1.36- and 1.64-times higher risk of PDD medical care use than those who delivered vaginally, whereas previous depressive women undertaking an elective cesarean birth had no significant difference observed in incidences. A notably higher risk of elective CS delivery versus vaginal delivery for mentally healthy women suggests that elective CS is not clinically appropriate, yet it might be an alternative to vaginal delivery with careful counseling for pregnant women who experience a history of depression.

Abstract
Background Postpartum depression (PPD) is a frequent mental disorder after delivery. In China, most parturients give birth with the assistance of labor analgesia (LA) or by cesarean section (CS); however, it is still unclear whether these two approaches reveal different effects on PPD. Methods One hundred and ninety-eight patients with single pregnancy at full term were allocated to receive either group LA or group CS. Maternal and neonatal variables in the perinatal period were recorded. Multivariate logistical regression analysis was conducted to evaluate the associated factors of PPD. Results The incidence of PPD in group LA was lower than in group CS. Besides, eight factors were found to be potential predictors of PPD. Multivariate logistic model showed that LA was a protective factor against PPD. However, high family income and Edinburgh postnatal depression scale (EPDS) scores at 3 days postpartum were associated with an increased risk of PPD. Conclusion LA could reduce the incidence of PPD in women with single pregnancy at full term. Family income and EPDS scores in the early postpartum period were also related with PPD. Large sample size studies are needed to verify the impact of LA on the psychological states of postpartum women.
