Informal Professional Communication of Rehabilitation Specialists and its Significance for their Practical Activities

Aim: To investigate the scope, forms and activeness of informal professional communication of rehabilitation specialists using information and communication channels and its significance for their practical activities. Materials and Methods: The following methods were used during the research: sociological; statistical; structural and logical analysis; generalization. Copies of the author’s original sociological survey questionnaire were used as research materials. Results: The analysis of the results of survey revealed that absolutely all interviewed rehabilitation specialists consider it useful to create virtual groups for professional communication with colleagues in the field of rehabilitation through modern information and communication channels. 44.9±3.7% of respondents recognized themselves as passive participants of such groups. But 98.9±0.8% of the survey participants consider the information received in such communication groups to be useful for professional clinical activities in the field of rehabilitation. It was determined that the issues of correct preparation of documentation when providing services under the packages of the National Health Service of Ukraine (78.7±3.1%) and the problems of organizing the provision of rehabilitation services in health care facilities (74.2±3,3) were discussed most often in the groups. Conclusions: The development of virtual professional communities of rehabilitation specialists helps them to exchange information and improve their knowledge in matters of organizing the provision of rehabilitation services in health care institutions and processing documentation. Provided that the facilitation of communication topics of professional groups is established, it is possible to improve their functioning and attract more specialists to active participation.

Research on the influencing factors of users’ information processing in online health communities based on heuristic-systematic model

With the rapid development of the Internet and the normalization of COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control, Online health communities (OHCs) have gradually become one of the important ways for people to obtain health information, and users have to go through a series of information processing when facing the massive amount of data. Understanding the factors influencing user information processing is necessary to promote users’ health literacy, health knowledge popularization and health behavior shaping. Based on the Heuristic-Systematic Model (HSM), Information Ecology Theory, Privacy Trade-Off and Self-Efficacy Theory, we constructed a model of factors influencing user information processing in online health communities. We found that information quality and emotional support had indirect effects on heuristic and systematic information processing, and these effects were mediated by privacy concerns and self-efficacy. In our research model, systematic information processing was most positively influenced directly by self-efficacy. Privacy concerns had a direct negative correlation with both dual information processing pathways. Therefore, OHCs managers should develop relevant regulations to ensure the information quality in OHCs and improve privacy protection services to promote user information processing by improving users’ self-efficacy and reducing their privacy concerns. Providing a user-friendly and interactive environment for users is also recommended to create more emotional support, thus facilitating more systematic information processing.

Attitudes and Expectations of Clinical Research Participants Toward Digital Health and Mobile Dietary Assessment Tools: Cross-Sectional Survey Study

Background

The adoption of health technologies is key to empower research participants and collect quality data. However, the acceptance of health technologies is usually evaluated in patients or healthcare practitioners, but not in clinical research participants.

Methods

A 27-item online questionnaire was provided to the 11,695 members of a nutrition clinical research participant database from the Nantes area (France), to assess (1) participants' social and demography parameters, (2) equipment and usage of health apps and devices, (3) expectations in research setting and (4) opinion about the future of clinical research. Each item was described using frequency and percentage overall and by age classes. A global proportion comparison was performed using chi-square or Fisher-exact tests.

Results

A total of 1529 respondents (81.0% women, 19.0% men) completed the survey. Main uses of health apps included physical activity tracking (54.7%, age-related group difference, p < 0.001) and food quality assessment (45.7%, unrelated to age groups). Overall, 20.4% of respondents declared owning a connected wristband or watch. Most participants (93.8%) expected the use of connected devices in research. However, protection of personal data (37.5%), reliability (35.5%) and skilled use of devices (28.5%) were perceived as the main barriers. Most participants (93.3%) would agree to track their food intake using a mobile app, and 80.5% would complete it for at least a week while taking part in a clinical study. Only 13.2% would devote more than 10 min per meal to such record. A majority (60.4%) of respondents would accept to share their social media posts in an anonymous way and most (82.2%) of them would accept to interact with a chatbot for research purposes.

Conclusions

Our cross-sectional study suggests that clinical study participants are enthusiastic about all forms of digital health technologies and participant-centered studies but remain concerned about the use of personal data. Repeated assessments are suggested to evaluate the research participant's interest in technologies following the increase in use and demand for innovative health services during the pandemic of COVID-19.

Factors influencing fake news rebuttal acceptance during the COVID-19 pandemic and the moderating effect of cognitive ability

Fake news is spreading rapidly on social media and poses a serious threat to the COVID-19 outbreak response. This study thus aims to reveal the factors influencing the acceptance of fake news rebuttals on Sina Weibo. Drawing on the elaboration likelihood model (ELM), we used text mining and the econometrics method to investigate the relationships among the central route (rebuttal's information readability and argument quality), peripheral route (rebuttal's source credibility, including authority and influence), and rebuttal acceptance, as well as the moderating effect of receiver's cognitive ability on these relationships. Our findings suggest that source authority had a negative effect on rebuttal acceptance, while source influence had a positive effect. Second, both information readability and argument quality had positive effects on rebuttal acceptance. In addition, individuals with low cognitive abilities relied more on source credibility and argument quality to accept rebuttals, while individuals with high cognitive abilities relied more on information readability. This study can provide decision support for practitioners to establish more effective fake news rebuttal strategies; it is especially valuable to reduce the negative impact of fake news related to major public health emergencies and safeguard the implementation of anti-epidemic strategies.

Assessing Determinants of Online Medical Services Adoption Willingness of General Hospital Physicians Using the Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills Model: A Multi-Group Structural Equation Modeling Approach

PURPOSE

Physician adoption of online medical services (OMS) has been hastened by the COVID-19 pandemic, but their adoption willingness still requires to be improved. This study aims to construct a physician's OMS adoption willingness model based on the information-motivation-behavioral skill (IMB) theory, explore the determinants affecting adoption willingness and its influencing pathways, and evaluate the moderating effects of OMS use experience on willingness through multi-group analysis.

PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS

A cross-sectional survey was conducted among physicians in three public hospitals of Jiangsu province, China, from June to July 2020, using a multi-stage sampling method. Structural equation modeling was applied to analyze the valid data from 531 respondents.

RESULTS

Physicians' willingness to adopt OMS was at a moderate level, with an average score of 14.27±3.34 (range: 4-20). The behavior model for physician's OMS adoption willingness fitted well. Information (In), motivation (Mo), and behavioral skill (BS) explained 69% of the variance in adoption willingness (AW). Information could only exert completely indirect effect on willingness via behavioral skills (b = 0.202, 95% CI[0.122, 0.314]); motivation could both generate direct effect (β=0.368, p < 0.001) and partial indirect effect on willingness via behavioral skills (b = 0.160, 95% CI[0.092, 0.248]); and behavioral skills had a positive effect on willingness (β=0.424, p < 0.001). Furthermore, OMS use experience showed a significant moderating effect on the Mo → AW pathway, with inexperienced physicians' willingness being significantly stronger influenced by motivation compared to experienced ones.

CONCLUSION

Findings from this study revealed the role of IMB model in interpreting and predicting physicians' willingness to adopt OMS and the moderating effect of uptake experience, providing practitioners with a theoretical foundation and intervention framework for supporting OMS development efforts.

Exploring the Factors Influencing Consumers to Voluntarily Reward Free Health Service Contributors in Online Health Communities: Empirical Study

BACKGROUND

Rewarding health knowledge and health service contributors with money is one possible approach for the sustainable provision of health knowledge and health services in online health communities (OHCs); however, the reasons why consumers voluntarily reward free health knowledge and health service contributors are still underinvestigated.

OBJECTIVE

This study aimed to address the abovementioned gap by exploring the factors influencing consumers' voluntary rewarding behaviors (VRBs) toward contributors of free health services in OHCs.

METHODS

On the basis of prior studies and the cognitive-experiential self-theory (CEST), we incorporated two health service content-related variables (ie, informational support and emotional support) and two interpersonal factors (ie, social norm compliance and social interaction) and built a proposed model. We crawled a dataset from a Chinese OHC for mental health, coded it, extracted nine variables, and tested the model with a negative binomial model.

RESULTS

The data sample included 2148 health-related questions and 12,133 answers. The empirical results indicated that the effects of informational support (β=.168; P<.001), emotional support (β=.463; P<.001), social norm compliance (β=.510; P<.001), and social interaction (β=.281; P<.001) were significant. The moderating effects of social interaction on informational support (β=.032; P=.02) and emotional support (β=-.086; P<.001) were significant. The moderating effect of social interaction on social norm compliance (β=.014; P=.38) was insignificant.

CONCLUSIONS

Informational support, emotional support, social norm compliance, and social interaction positively influence consumers to voluntarily reward free online health service contributors. Social interaction enhances the effect of informational support but weakens the effect of emotional support. This study contributes to the literature on knowledge sharing in OHCs by exploring the factors influencing consumers' VRBs toward free online health service contributors and contributes to the CEST literature by verifying that the effects of experiential and rational systems on individual behaviors can vary while external factors change.
