Abstract
This study evaluated the effect on adhesive layer thickness, bond strength, and adhesive failure pattern of the application of universal adhesive (Scotchbond Universal) using either manual or rotary brush in dentin previously impregnated with bioceramic sealer (Sealer Plus BC) using a manual brush, at 24 h and 1 year. Eighty-eight bovine crowns were divided into four groups (n = 22) according to the intervention: (i) use of bioceramic sealer and adhesive application using manual brush, (ii) use of bioceramic sealer and adhesive application using rotary brush, (iii) use of resin sealer and adhesive application using manual brush, and (iv) use of resin sealer and adhesive application using rotary brush. Subsequently, specimens were restored with a composite resin (Filtek Z-250). Adhesive layer thickness was evaluated using confocal microscopy. Bond strength was assessed using the microtensile bond strength test, and adhesive failure pattern was evaluated under a stereomicroscope. Data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA/Tukey tests. Specimens where a rotary brush had been used exhibited lower adhesive layer thickness. Specimens treated with resin sealer and using a manual brush showed lower bond strength values and a higher occurrence of adhesive failures at 24 h and 1 year than specimens treated with bioceramic sealer and using rotary brush for adhesive application.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the application of universal adhesive in the etch-and-rinse (ER) strategy with a manual brush (MB) or rotary brush (RB) in adhesion to dentin impregnated (WB) or not (NB) with bioceramic sealer, at 24 h and 1 year. Eighty-eight crowns of bovine incisors were divided into four groups (n=22): WB-MB, WB-RB, NB-MB, NB-RB. After the restorative protocol, dentin penetrability was evaluated by confocal microscopy. Bond strength was evaluated by microtensile test. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA/Tukey tests (α=0.05). NB-RB and WB-RB exhibited greater extensions of resin tags in dentin. At 24 h, WB-RB and NB-MB showed the highest and lowest values of bond strength, respectively. At 1 year, WB-MB and WB-RB demonstrated the highest bond strength values. The RB increases the formation of resin tags and residues of bioceramic sealer provides higher bond strength in the ER strategy.

Abstract
AIM The aim of this study was to compare the microtensile bond strength (µTBS) and failure mode of 4 different universal adhesive systems (UAs) on human dentin. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study sectioned the occlusal thirds of 32 human third molars and divided them into 4 groups based on the adhesive system used. Group A: Palfique Universal Bond, Group B: Single Bond Universal, Group C: All-Bond Universal, and Group D: One Coat 7 Universal. The specimens underwent a 10,000-cycle thermocycling ageing process prior to testing (n = 32). Afterwards, 8 beams were obtained per group and subjected to µTBS testing using a digital universal testing machine at a speed of 1 mm/min. The microtensile bond strength values were analysed in Megapascals (MPa), and the failure mode was evaluated using a stereomicroscope. Welch's parametric ANOVA with robust variance and the Games-Howell post hoc test were used for µTBS comparisons, and Fisher's exact test was used to determine the association between adhesive type and failure mode. The significance level was set at P < .05. RESULTS Group D showed a significantly higher µTBS than groups A (P < .001) and B (P < .001), but no significant difference was observed with group C (P= .075). Furthermore, groups B and C showed significantly higher µTBS than group A (P< .001 and P < .001, respectively), but there was no significant difference between groups B and C (P = .132). Additionally, group A exhibited a significant association with an adhesive failure mode (P < .05), whereas groups B, C, and D were significantly associated with a mixed failure mode (P < .05). CONCLUSION The One Coat 7 Universal adhesive system showed higher microtensile bond strength values and higher chemical interaction with dentin compared to Palfique Universal Bond and Single Bond Universal. However, no significant differences were observed compared to All-Bond Universal.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the effects of Nd:YAG laser irradiation on the microstructures of dentin surfaces and the long-term bond strength of dentin under simulated pulpal pressure. MATERIALS AND METHODS Under simulated pulp pressure, 30 freshly extracted caries-free third molars were cut into 2-mm-thick dentin samples and then divided into five groups: the control and laser groups (93.3 J/cm2; 124.4 J/cm2; 155.5 J/cm2; 186.6 J/cm2). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), and Vickers hardness were used to analyze the surface morphology, composition, and mechanical properties of the dentin before and after laser irradiation. Another 80 caries-free third molars were removed and treated as described above, and the resin was bonded to the dentin surface with Single Bond Universal (SBU) adhesive in self-etch mode to make stick specimens. Microtensile bond strength (µTBS), confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), and interfacial silver nanoleakage tests before and after 10,000 times thermocycling were then performed to analyze the bonding properties and interfacial durability of each group. RESULTS SEM observations revealed that the surfaces of all laser group specimens were rough with open dentin tubules. Laser irradiation altered the surface composition of dentin while removing some collagen fibers but did not affect its surface hardness or crystallographic characteristics. Furthermore, laser irradiation with an energy density of 124.4 J/cm2 significantly promoted the immediate and aging bond strengths and reduced nanoleakage compared to those of the control group. CONCLUSIONS Under simulated pulp pressure, Nd:YAG laser pretreatment altered the chemical composition of dentin and improved the immediate and long-term bond strength. CLINICAL RELEVANCE This study investigated the optimal parameters for Nd:YAG laser pretreatment of dentin, which has potential as a clinical method to strengthen bonding.

Abstract
AIM In-vitro evaluation of shear bond strength, mode of failure, and adaptation of fifth-generation (etch-and-rinse), seventh-generation,and eighth-generation self-etch dental adhesives to human dentin with or without diode-laser irradiation before photopolymerization. MATERIALS AND METHODS Seventy-two extracted human maxillary premolar teeth were collected. The buccal and lingual surfaces of teeth were grounded until dentin was exposed. Test areas of 4 mm diameter were created on both surfaces of teeth to standardize the area of treatment. The samples were then randomly allocated into three groups (n = 24): Group 1 Adper Single Bond 2 Etch-and-Rinse; Group 2 Tetric-N-Bond Universal Self-Etch; Group 3 Prime and Bond Universal Self-Etch dental adhesives were used. Buccal surfaces (sub-groups 'a') of all specimens were irradiated with diode laser before photopolymerization of the adhesive material, and palatal surfaces (sub-groups 'b') were directly photopolymerized without prior diode laser irradiation and restored with composite resin. All specimens were thermocycled. Four specimens from each group were then subjected to scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis to examine the adaptation of adhesive to dentin, and the remaining 60 specimens were evaluated for shear bond strength tests, modes of failure at the adhesive-dentin interface, and values were recorded, tabulated, and used for data analysis. A one-way ANOVA test and the Student's t-test were used for statistical analysis. A P value ≤ 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS The mean shear bond strength for the groups was: Group 1a (13.96 MPa), 1b (14.95 MPa); Group 2a (10.06 MPa), 2b (10.30 MPa); Group 3a (12.03 MPa), and 3b (10.44 MPa). No statistically significant difference was seen among sub-groups 1a and 3a, 2a and 3a, 2b and 3b as P > 0.05. A significant difference was seen among sub-groups 1b and 3b (P<0.05), 1a and 2a, and 1b and 2b (P<0.01). CONCLUSION Adper Single Bond 2 without diode-laser irradiation before photopolymerization showed the highest shear bond strength, followed by Adper Single Bond 2 irradiated with diode laser before photopolymerization, with the maximum adaptation of dental adhesive to dentin compared to other adhesives used either with or without diode-laser irradiation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This double-blind, split mouth randomized clinical trial aimed to assess the clinical performance of Clearfil Universal Bond Quick (CBUq) universal adhesive under different application times (no waiting and waiting) compared to Clearfil SE Bond adhesive in non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) over 18 months. METHODS One hundred and eighty-three restorations were distributed randomly into three groups based on the adhesive system and waiting time: CUBq without waiting time (CUBq-NW), CUBq with a 20 s waiting time (CUBq-W), and CSE with a 20 s waiting time. After placement, restorations were evaluated after 18 months using the International Dental Federation (FDI) and United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria. Statistical analyses involved Friedman repeated measures analysis of variance and Wilcoxon tests, with a significance level set at 5 %. RESULTS Over the 18-month period, no restorations were lost across the tested groups. Marginal adaptation evaluation indicated minor discrepancies in 21 restorations (8 CUBq-NW, 6 CUBq-W, and 7 CSE). There were no significant differences observed among the three groups following the 18-month clinical assessment (p > 0.05). Only two restorations showed marginal discoloration after 18 months (1 CUBq-NW and 1 CSE). CONCLUSIONS The application of Clearfil Universal Bond Quick using either the "waiting" or "no-waiting" technique exhibited excellent clinical results in NCCLs during the 18-month follow-up period, demonstrating comparable performance to Clearfil SE Bond in all assessed outcomes. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The findings suggest that the new universal adhesive applied using the no-waiting technique demonstrates promising clinical performance when compared to conventional application methods. Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate whether the use of desensitizing dentifrices containing obliterating agents can affect bond strength of eroded/abraded dentin. METHODOLOGY A total of 100 dentin samples were obtained from human molars. The teeth were cut into 3 mm-thickness discs and allocated in five groups (n=20), according to the toothpaste used: WoF - abrasion with fluoride-free toothpaste (Cocoricó); Arg - toothpaste containing arginine (Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief); Nov - calcium sodium phosphosilicate toothpaste (Sensodyne Repair and Protect); SnF - fluoride-containing toothpaste (AmF/SnCl2/SnF2 - Elmex Erosion); and Control (no erosive/abrasive process). The erosive/abrasive cycle consisted of immersion in citric acid (1%, pH 2.6, 5 min, 4×/day) and abrasion (2×/day, 120-20 sec abrasion, 100 sec immersion) with each toothpaste. During intervals, samples were immersed in artificial saliva. This cycle was performed for five days. Two resin cylinders (2 mm in diameter) were constructed on each sample for the shear bond strength test using a universal adhesive system. The self-etch and etch-and-rinse (Scotchbond Universal) strategies were employed, each in half of the total sample (n=10). Bond strength (MPa) was measured in a shear test and failure modes were assessed with a stereomicroscope. Statistical analysis was performed using the two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey tests (p<0.05). RESULTS A statistically significant difference was found between the adhesive strategies tested (p<0.001), with the self-etching form showing higher values than the etch-and-rinse. Moreover, no significant differences were observed between the tested toothpastes (p=0.750) and interactions (p=0.438). CONCLUSION The use of toothpaste containing obliterating agents does not affect bond strength to dentin subjected to erosive/abrasive conditions when a universal adhesive is used. However, the self-etch strategy might be preferred for eroded/abraded dentin.

Abstract
This study evaluated the effect of a 0.5% chloramine T solution on a chemical-cured universal adhesive by comparing the light-cured, one-step, self-etch adhesive for the bonding performance, mechanical properties, and resin-dentin interfacial characteristics. Caries-free human molars were randomly assigned into eight groups based on the bonding systems employed (Bond Force II, BF and Bondmer Lightless, BL), the immersion solutions used before bonding (0.5% chloramine T solution and distilled water), and the immersion durations (5 and 60 min). Microtensile bond strength (μTBS), nanoleakage evaluation, and nanoindentation tests were performed, and the surface morphology of the resin-dentin interface was examined using a focus ion beam/scanning ion microscopy system. Immersion in chloramine-T for 5 min significantly decreased the μTBS of Bondmer Lightless (from 22.62 to 12.87 MPa) compared with that in distilled water. Moreover, there was also a decreasing trend after immersing in chloramine-T for 60 min (from 19.11 to 13.93 MPa). Chloramine T was found to have no effect on the hardness, elastic modulus, or morphological characteristics of the ion-beam milled resin-dentin interfacial surfaces in the tested adhesives, suggesting that chloramine T might reduce the bond strength by interfering with the interaction and the sealing between the adhesive resin and dentin in the chemical-cured universal adhesive, albeit without affecting the mechanical properties.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of extended air-drying time on the microshear bond strength (MSBS) of universal adhesives to enamel. MATERIALS AND METHODS The distal and mesial specimens from third molars were wet-ground and randomly assigned to three groups according to adhesives tested (n = 60): Clearfil Bond Universal, Gluma Bond Universal, and G-Premio Bond. The adhesives were applied in etch-and-rinse or self-etch modes, followed by air-drying for 5, 15, or 25 s. Composite buildups were constructed and subjected to the MSBS test after 24-h or thermocycling. MSBS results were evaluated using a four-way ANOVA. The thickness of the adhesive layer and the degree of solvent evaporation were further evaluated. RESULTS At 24-h, MSBS of G-Premio Bond significantly improved with the 25 s air-drying in both of the etching modes when compared to the 5 s air-drying. After thermocycling, the extended air-drying did not produce a significant difference on the MSBS, regardless of the application strategy. Extended air-drying (25 s) evaporated almost all of the volatile part of Gluma Bond Universal and G-Premio Bond. CONCLUSIONS Extended air-drying times increased solvent evaporation but did not contribute to the bonding effectiveness of the adhesives, regardless of the etching mode. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Air-drying applications for more than 5 s had no significant effect on enamel bonding performance of universal adhesives.

Abstract
This study aimed to assess the efficacy of phototherapy with an Er, Cr:YSGG laser on the bond strength of dentin using two different adhesive systems after chlorhexidine (CHX) application. Twenty-four non-carious human molar teeth were separated into three main groups: negative control Group A (Group A), CHX and phototherapy with an Er, Cr:YSGG laser (Group PC), and CHX with conventional diamond bur (no phototherapy) (Group C). These groups were divided into two subgroups based on adhesives: Clearfil Universal Quick Bond and Clearfil SE Bond. To evaluate the microtensile bond strength, the occlusal enamel surfaces of the teeth were removed with a low-speed, water-cooled diamond bur to expose hard dentin tissue. The teeth within Group PC were treated with Er, Cr:YSGG phototherapy. The surfaces were then disinfected with 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate. Subgroups were applied according to the manufacturer's instructions using the adhesive systems mentioned above. Following adhesive application, the teeth were restored with composite resin. A microtensile bond strength test was performed on the test sticks obtained from the teeth using a universal test device. Data were analyzed using variance analysis (ANOVA) at a significance level of p < 0.05. Among all groups, the highest bond strength was achieved with Clearfil SE Bond with CHX + phototherapy (45.6 ± 4.2), while the lowest was achieved with Clearfil Universal Quick Bond without phototherapy (control group) (27.0 ± 6.7) (p < 0.05). Phototherapy with Er, Cr: YSGG following chlorhexidine application enhanced the bond strength of both the bond systems (p < 0.05).

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the microtensile bond strength (µTBS) and nanoleakage (NL) of several universal adhesives to eroded dentine (ED) using etch-and-rinse (ER) and self-etch (SE) strategies, immediately and after 6 years of water storage. MATERIAL AND METHODS Four hundred and eighty human molars were distributed into 60 groups according to dentine substrate (sound dentine [SD], eroded with soft drink, or eroded with citric acid), application method of the adhesive (SE or ER), and the adhesives used: 1. All-Bond Universal, 2. Ambar Universal, 3. Clearfil Universal, 4. Futurabond U, 5. One Coat 7 Universal, 6. Peak Universal Bond, 7. Prime&Bond Elect, 8. Scotchbond Universal, 9. Tetric n-bond Universal, and 10. Xeno Select. The restoration was then performed with a composite resin, and the specimens were sectioned into resin-dentine bonded sticks. The sticks were tested (immediately or after 6 years of storage) for µTBS (0.5 mm/min) or used to assess NL. The eroded dentine surfaces were also examined using FE-SEM to evaluate the NL. Data for µTBS were analyzed by four-way ANOVA and Tukey's post-hoc test (a = 0.05), and the NL was analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Sum test (a = 0.05). RESULTS In ED, there was no difference in μTBS and NL between ER and SE strategies (p > 0.05). Most μTBS and NL values obtained for ED were lower and higher, respectively, than those for SD (p < 0.005). Additionally, the worst results (μTBS and NL) were observed for erosion with citric acid groups in comparison with erosion with soft-drink groups (p < 0.007). After 6y, μTBS was generally lower and NL higher for all substrates, adhesives, and strategies (p < 0.05), except for AMB, SBU, and TEU in dentine eroded with citric acid. The lowest μTBS and highest NL values were observed for ABU, FBU, OCU, PUB, PBE, and XEN in both types of eroded dentine and evaluation times (p < 0.002). CONCLUSION The use of MDP-containing adhesives seems to be essential to maintain adhesion to eroded dentine. However, other factors such as acidity should be considered. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The bonding of eroded dentine is a challenge. However, the use of MDP-containing universal adhesives showed less degradation after long-term evaluation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aims to evaluate the effects of exposure time and irradiance on the dentin bonding properties (microtensile bond strength (μTBS) and nanoleakage (NL)) of the Clearfil Universal Bond Quick (CUQ) adhesive and Scotchbond Universal Adhesive (SBU) immediately and after 2 years of water storage. MATERIAL AND METHODS Hence, 128 human molars were randomly assigned to 16 groups based on adhesive strategy, irradiance/exposure times, and storage time for each universal adhesive tested. The adhesives were applied using the etch-and-rinse and self-etch strategies and were light-cured using four different irradiance/exposure times: 1400 mW/cm2 for 5 s (1400 × 5), 1400 mW/cm2 for 10 s (1400 × 10), 3200 mW/cm2 for 5 s (3200 × 5), and 3200 mW/cm2 for 10 s (3200 × 10). Then, each sample was restored and sectioned into a resin-dentin bonded stick to be tested for μTBS and NL (immediately and after 2 years of water storage). The mean μTBS and NL of all resin-dentin bonded sticks from the same hemi-tooth (factor time) were statistically analyzed using a three-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (a = 0.05). RESULTS Despite a significant decrease in the μTBS values for all groups after 2 years of water storage, the 3200 × 5 group showed higher μTBS values, whereas the 3200 × 10 group showed lower μTBS values for both universal adhesives tested. Although a significant increase in the NL values was observed for all groups after 2 years of water storage, the 3200 × 10 group showed higher NL values than the other groups (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION Results indicate that light-curing the adhesive layer with 14-16 J/cm2 led to an improvement in the stability of the resin-dentin adhesive interface. A longer exposure time (10 s) coupled with a higher irradiance (3200 mW/cm2) resulted in a greater degree of degradation of the adhesive interface. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE To guarantee better stability of the adhesive interface, clinicians could be preferred a light-cured universal adhesive layer with 14-16 J/cm2. Higher irradiances should be avoided.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different matrix metalloproteinase inhibitors (MMPIs) on the microtensile bond strength (μTBS) and nanoleakage of universal adhesives. One hundred twenty non-carious human molars were prepared and randomly assigned to two groups: Scotchbond Bond Universal (SBU) and Gluma Bond Universal (GBU). The samples in each group were assigned to five subgroups (n=12) based on one control (water) and four MMPIs (Benzalkonium-chloride (BAC), Batimastat (BB94), Chlorhexidine (CHX), and Epigallocatechin-gallate (EGCG)). Each adhesive was applied in self-etch (SE) mode or etch-and-rinse (ER) mode. Dentin/composite sticks were fabricated and subjected to the μTBS test after 24 h or 6 months. At 6 months, MMPIs did not affect the μTBS of the adhesives, regardless of etching mode. Nanoleakage was more pronounced in ER mode than in SE mode for all subgroups. All MMPIs, with the exception of CHX, decreased the nanoleakage of GBU in ER mode.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the clinical performance of a universal adhesive system (Futurabond U, Voco) when applied following different adhesive strategies in non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) after 5 years. METHODS Fifty participants were included. Futurabond U (Voco) was applied in NCCLs using four adhesive strategies (n = 50 each): only self-etch (SE); selective enamel etching + self-etch (SET + SE); etch-and-rinse with dry dentin (ERD); and etch-and-rinse with wet dentin (ERW). All cavities were restored with Admira Fusion composite resin (Voco). Restorations were evaluated after 1, 3, and 5 years using the World Federation criteria (FDI) and the modified United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria. RESULTS After 5 years, retention rates were 81 % (65.8-90.5) for SE, 87 % (73.2-94.4) for SET + SE, 84 % (69.6-92.6) for ERD, and 78 % (63.6-88.9) for ERW (p > 0.05). Thirty-five restorations were considered to have minor discrepancies in marginal adaptation at the 5-year recall (14 for SE, 9 for SET + SE, 6 for ERD, and 6 for ERW; p > 0.05). Sixteen restorations were detected as a minor marginal discoloration (6 for SE, 4 for SET + SE, 1 for ERD, and 5 for ERW; p > 0.05) and one restoration showed a recurrence of caries (1 for ERW; p > 0.05) at the 5-year recall. No restorations showed postoperative sensitivity after 5 years. SIGNIFICANCE NCCLs restorations using a universal adhesive showed satisfactory clinical performance after 5 years, regardless of the adhesive strategy.

Abstract
The composition of universal adhesives, as well as the adhesive strategy, may influence bonding effectiveness and durability. This study aimed to evaluate the microtensile bond strength (µTBS) and nanoleakage (NL), immediately and after 6-month aging, and in situ degree of conversion (DC), of two universal adhesives (Scotchbond Universal Adhesive, SBU; Xeno Select, XEN) applied with etch-and-rinse (ER) and self-etch (SE) strategies, in comparison with a two-step SE adhesive (Clearfil SE Bond, CSE). Dentin surfaces of fifty human third molars were randomly assigned to the following adhesives: two universal adhesives, SBU and XEN, applied in ER or SE mode and CSE, used as control. Teeth were sectioned into beams to be tested under µTBS, half of them after 24 h, and the rest after 6 months of water aging. Selected beams from each tooth were used for NL evaluation and in situ DC quantification. SBU and CSE showed significantly higher mean µTBS and lower nanoleakage than XEN, regardless of the evaluation time and adhesion strategy. XEN-SE yielded the lowest degree of conversion. Therefore, adhesive properties of universal adhesives to dentin are material dependent, regardless of the adhesion strategy, exhibiting XEN a significantly worse performance than SBU.

The 2-ERA systems included were: 1) Adper Single Bond 2 (SB), 2) Tetric N-Bond (TB), and 3) Ambar (AM); and the UAs systems were: 4) Single Bond Universal (SBU) 5) Tetric N-Bond Universal (TBU), and 6) Ambar Universal (AMU). The occlusal third of each tooth was removed and the adhesives were applied. After the composite build-up, specimens were sectioned and tested for microtensile bond strength (µTBS) and nanoleakage (NL) immediately and after 1 year of water storage. In situ degree of conversion (DC) was only evaluated in the immediate time. For water sorption (WS), solubility (SO), and mass change (MC) tests, 48 disk-shaped specimens were prepared (n = 8) and assessed according to ISO 4049:2009. RESULTS UAs showed higher µTBS and lower NL values than 2-ERAs did after 1 year of water storage (p = 0.001). Regarding DC, 2-ERAs showed higher DC values than UAs (p = 0.001). Regarding WS, 2-ERAs showed higher WS values than those of UAs (p = 0.00001), except for AM and AMU. Lower WS was observed for AM than for other 2-ERAs (p = 0.00001). CONCLUSION The use of UAs applied with the ER strategy seems to be a more effective technique for maintaining adhesion to dentin substrate than 2-ERAS. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE This study may support clinicians in selecting the most adequate adhesive system to be used in ER strategy in dentin, demonstrating that UAs were more effective, considering the longevity of the resin restorations.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the effect of adhesive strategy (total etch or self-etch) of universal adhesives in non-carious cervical lesions. DATA SOURCE A search was made in PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane, Web Of Science, Open Gray, Clinical Registries. DATA SELECTION Randomized Controlled Clinical Trials, studies on non-carious cervical lesions restored using Universal Adhesives, and studies in which universal adhesives have been used in total etch and self -etch strategies were included in this systematic review. DATA EXTRACTION A total of 17 articles were included in the systematic review and 13 in the meta-analysis. Meta-analysis was conducted to assess the clinical performance of NCCLs in terms of retention, marginal adaptation, marginal discoloration, secondary caries and post-operative sensitivity at 18, 24, 36 month follow-up using USPHS as well as FDI criteria, separately. DATA SYNTHESIS Overall there was no significant difference between total etch and self etch adhesive strategies for any of the five outcome measures using either the FDI or the USPHS criteria. p > 0.05, 95% CI, I2 value of 0%. A strongly suspected publication bias in the retention domain was seen at 18 month follow up under FDI criteria. CONCLUSION Most universal adhesives show acceptable clinical performance. There is no significant effect of the adhesive strategy of universal adhesives on their clinical performance according to the results of our meta-analysis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this double-blind, randomized clinical trial was to evaluate the 6- and 18-month clinical performances of a new universal adhesive applied in the "no-waiting" (NW) technique to non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) using two evaluation criteria. MATERIALS AND METHODS One hundred and seventy-six restorations were assigned to four groups according to the adhesive system, adhesive strategy, and application mode: Prime&Bond Active (PB) applied using the etch-and-rinse (ER) and self-etch (SE) strategies with 20 s applications and Clearfil Universal Bond Quick (CQ) applied using the ER and SE strategies with the NW technique. The composite resin restorations were evaluated at baseline and after 6 and 18 months using the World Dental Federation (FDI) and US Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria. The Friedman repeated measures analysis of variance and Wilcoxon test were used for statistical analyses (α = 0.05). RESULTS No significant differences were observed among any of the groups or criteria after 6 months (p > 0.05). After 18 months, 10 restorations were lost (p > 0.05) (2 with PB-ER [95.5%; 95%CI: 92-100%], 4 with PB-SE [90.9%; 95%CI: 82-98%], 0 with CQ-ER [100%; 95%CI: 92-100%], and 4 with CQ-SE [90.9%; 82-98%]). The restorations performed with the SE strategy showed more marginal discrepancies than those performed with the ER strategy, mainly when the FDI criteria were used (p < 0.05). Those that used the PB-SE showed fewer marginal discrepancies than those that used the CQ-SE (FDI; p < 0.05). A few restorations showed marginal discrepancies after the USPHS analysis (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The results when using the CQ-SE and -ER strategies with the NW technique were similar to those when using the PB-SE and -ER strategies in standard applications to non-carious cervical lesions after 6 and 18 months of clinical evaluation. CLINICAL RELEVANCE After 6 and 18 months, the application of Clearfil Universal Bond Quick with the "no-waiting" technique showed similar clinical performance compared to the standard application of Prime & Bond Active applied using the standard application time (20 s). Abstract
This study aimed at comparing shear-bond strength (SBS) of different self-etching adhesive systems (Clearfil S3 Bond Plus, G-Premio BOND and IBond) to dentin without or with diode-laser irradiation before photo-polymerization and to determine the effect of storage and thermo-cycling on SBS of adhesive systems. METHODS The buccal surface of 84 extracted maxillary premolars was grounded to create flat surface. The specimens were allocated into 3 groups (n = 28) depending upon the adhesive systems, then each group was divided into two sub-group (I, II) (n = 14). After the placement of respective adhesive systems on the flat surface, adhesive system in group I was photo-polymerized immediately, while in group II, the adhesive systems were exposed to diode-laser before photo-polymerization. Composite cylinder (4 mm in diameter and 2 mm height) was built on the flat surface of each specimen. Then group I and II were divided into two sub-groups (n = 7) according to the storage time and thermo-cycling (1 day without thermo-cycling or 72 days with thermo-cycling) then all the specimens were stored in distilled water. The SBS was measured at the end of storage period. ANOVA, Duncan's Multiple Range Test and independent t-test "P ≤ 0.05" were used for data analysis. RESULTS G-premio BOND showed the highest mean value of SBS followed by Clearfil S3 Bond plus without significant difference between them, while IBond revealed the least mean value. Laser irradiation had positive effect on the bond-strength of all tested adhesive systems. The results also showed that the storage with thermo-cycling had negative effect on the bond-strength in groups without laser irradiation for all tested adhesive systems, while for groups with laser irradiation, the reduction in the bond-strength of all tested adhesive systems was not significant. CONCLUSION Diode-laser application prior to photo-polymerization of self-etch adhesive systems significantly increased the bond-strength to dentin and can increase the durability of composite adhesion.

Abstract
The effectiveness of a universal adhesive applied in different application modes for the preparation of Class V composite restorations was evaluated both clinically and by quantitative marginal analysis (QMA). In each of the 22 patients, four non-carious cervical lesions (NCCL) were restored with Filtek™ Supreme XTE (3M). The adhesive Scotchbond™ Universal (SBU, 3M) was applied in self-etch (SE), selective-enamel-etch (SEE) or etch-and-rinse (ER) modes. The etch-and-rinse adhesive OptiBond™ FL (OFL, Kerr) served as a control. The restorations were clinically evaluated (FDI criteria) after 14 days (BL), 6, 12, 24, and 36 months. Additionally, QMA was conducted on all restorations of 11 randomly selected patients. The FDI criteria and marginal gap were statistically compared between the groups at each recall as well as for the time periods between recalls. The cumulative failure rate was non-significantly higher in the OFL group when compared to all of the SBU groups. Marginal adaptation in the OFL and SBU-SE/ER groups was significantly decreased (BL-36 m, p: 0.004) in comparison to the SBU-SEE group (BL-36 m, p: 0.063). More marginal gaps were found in the OFL group than in the SBU-SEE (BL to 36 m, p: 0.063-0.003) and SBU-ER (24/36 m, p: 0.066/0.005) groups as well as in the SBU-SE group when compared to the SBU-SEE (12-36 m, pi ≤ 0.016) and SBU-ER (24/36 m, p: 0.055/0.001) groups. SBU-SEE performed most effectively. The clinical evaluation and QMA corresponded, yet QMA detected group differences earliest after 6 months and is thus a valuable extension to clinical evaluations.

Abstract
Abstract This study investigated the effect of phytic acid (IP6) in different concentrations and application times on microtensile bond strength (µTBS) and interfacial integrity of universal adhesive to deep dentin. Flat deep dentin surfaces of 48 human molars were either etched with 37% phosphoric acid (PA) for 15 sec (control); or received no acid treatment and universal adhesive was applied directly in a self-etch mode (SE); or divided according to IP6 concentration (C) into two main groups: C1, 0.5%, and C2, 1%. Specimens of IP6 groups were further subdivided into three subgroups according to application time of IP6 (T) where; T1, 15 sec; T2, 30 sec and T3, 60 sec. Single Bond Universal Adhesive was then applied and resin composite blocks were built-up. Forty Specimens were then sectioned to produce resin/dentin beams that were used for µTBS testing using a universal testing machine. The remaining eight specimens were sectioned into slabs that were immersed into ammonical silver nitrate solution and nanoleakage was observed using a field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). The results showed that the application of IP6 in 0.5% and 1% produced significantly higher µTBS and less nanoleakage compared to PA and SE groups. Also, the application of IP6 for 60 sec recorded the highest µTBS and the lowest nanoleakage followed by 30 sec, and 15 sec respectively. Therefore, conditioning of deep dentin with IP6 enhances µTBS and interfacial integrity of universal adhesive to deep dentin in comparison to PA etching or using the universal adhesive in SE mode.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This review evaluated the effects of the acidic composition of self-etch (SE) adhesives at the long-term bond strengths to dentin and enamel. DATA The review followed the PRISMA Extension Statement for network meta-analysis. Studies were identified by a systematic search in PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases. STUDY SELECTION The inclusion criteria were in vitro studies that evaluated bond strength data of samples analyzed at both immediate and long-term (after aging simulation) periods and that were bonded to sound dentin/enamel using SE adhesives, with at least one group of adhesives being based on 10-MDP (10-methacryloyloxy-decyl-dihydrogen-phosphate; control) and the other group being comprised of alternative acidic monomers. Statistical analyses were conducted using two methods: standard pairwise meta-analysis (SPMA) and Bayesian network meta-analysis (NMA). Heterogeneity was assessed by using the Cochran Q test and I2 statistics. RESULTS From 5220 studies identified, 87 met the eligibility criteria and 83 were meta-analyzed. Seventeen adhesives were based on 10-MDP and 44 systems were based on alternative acids. The resin-dentin/enamel bonds were predominantly reduced after aging (∼84% of cases). From the SPMA findings, the following acidic compositions showed lower bond strength values (effect size: mean difference [MD] with 95% confidence interval [95% CI]) than 10-MDP: 4-META (MD -4.99, 95% CI: -7.21, -2.78; p<0.001); sulfonic acids (MD -9.59, 95% CI -12.19, -6.98; p<0.001); unspecified phosphate esters (MD -8.89, 95% CI -17.50, -0.28; p = 0.04); or mixed acids (MD -11.0, 95% CI -13.62, -8.38; p<0.001). The dental bonds were benefited from the presence of 10-MDP upon longer aging (>6 months). From the NMA probabilistic findings, adhesives based on 10-MDP and phosphonic acids ranked as having the best and the worst bonding potential to dentin, respectively. More than one composition (phosphonic acids and mixed acids) ranked similarly to 10-MDP in enamel. The studies scored as having moderate risk of bias (58.6%), followed by low (39.1%) and high (2.3%) risk of bias. CONCLUSION 10-MDP is an outstanding acidic monomer that contributes to higher bonds to dentin at the long-term. In enamel, there is no evidence that one acidic composition prevails over the other. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The acidic composition of SE adhesives affects the resistance of dental bonds after simulated aging, with 10-MDP playing a significant role in the adhesion to dentin but not to the enamel. Abstract
BACKGROUND To evaluate the effect of amalgam contamination, different surface treatments, and adhesive protocols on dentin microleakage to bulk-fill composite resin material. METHODS Forty teeth were fixed in (polyvinyl siloxane) PVS molds, and the Class II cavities were placed on mesial and distal aspects. Thirty teeth were restored by amalgam and thermocycled to 10,000 cycles (5 and 55 °C, 30-s dwell time). The rest were restored with Filtek one Bulk Fill composite without amalgam predecessor. Samples were divided into: G1 (dentin pretreated with 2% chlorhexidine gluconate), G2 (0.5 mm of dentin was removed), G3 (no surface modification), and G4 (control, where composite was bonded to sound dentin without amalgam predecessor.). Single Bond Universal Adhesive system was used to bond the composite material, by using the etch-and-rinse protocol in the mesial cavity preparation and self-etch protocol in the distal. Specimens underwent thermocycling for 5000 cycles, then embedded in silver nitrate and sectioned for stereomicroscope examination. Descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney U test, and Kruskal-Wallis test were used to analyze the results at p < 0.05. RESULTS The highest microleakage score values (4.00) were found in the G2, and G4 in etch-and-rinse protocol. While the lowest scores were found in G2 when using self-etching protocol (1.5). Lower microleakage values were associated with the chlorhexidine treatment group for both adhesive protocols. No significant differences were found between amalgam contaminated and non-contaminated groups. CONCLUSIONS Amalgam contamination did not affect microleakage. Self-etching adhesive protocol significantly reduced microleakage for all groups irrespective of the surface treatment. Chlorhexidine pretreatment improved microleakage for both adhesive protocols but had no significant effect.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed at evaluating the microtensile bond strength (μTBS) and the resin-dentine ultramorphology (24 h and 10 months ageing) of contemporary universal adhesives applied in self-etch (SE) or etch-and-rinse (ER) mode. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixty-four sound human molars were collected and randomly allocated in 4 main experimental groups (n = 16) according to the adhesive system employed and subsequently divided into two subgroups depending on their application mode SE or ER (n = 8): ZipBond X (ZBX-SE; ZBX-ER), Prime and Bond Active (PBA-SE; PBA-ER), Clearfil Universal Bond Quick (CBQ-SE; CBQ-ER) or Scotchbond Universal (SCH-SE; SCH-ER). The specimens were cut into sticks with a cross-sectional area of approximately 0.9 mm2 and subjected to μTBS testing at 24 h or after 10 months of ageing in artificial saliva (AS). Five representative fractured specimens from each group were analysed using field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). Resin-dentine slabs (Ø 0.9mm2) from each experimental group were immersed in Rhodamine B and subsequently analysed using confocal microscopy analysis (CLSM). The μTBS results were analysed using a two-way ANOVA and Newman-Keuls multiple-comparison test (α = 0.05). RESULTS ZBX, PBA and SCH exhibited greater μTBS values than CQB at 24 h in both SE and ER modes (p < 0.05). CQB showed a significant decrease in μTBS values after ageing both when used in SE and ER mode (p < 0.05). ZBX-ER exhibited no significant differences in the μTBS test after ageing (p > 0.05), while a significant drop in μTBS was seen in SCH-ER and APB-ER after 10-month ageing (p < 0.05). Clear signs of degradation were evident in the resin-dentine interface created with CQB regardless of the application mode or the ageing time. In APB-ER and SCH-ER groups, such signs of degradation were evident after ageing in AS. ZBX showed slight dye infiltration both when used in ER and SE mode. CONCLUSIONS The long-term bonding performance of modern universal adhesives is usually influenced by the adhesive strategy employed; self-etching application should be prioritised during dentine bonding. Moreover, the use of shortened bonding protocols may compromise the quality of the resin-dentine interface and the bonding performance of most modern universal adhesives. CLINICAL RELEVANCE The use of etch-and-rinse bonding procedures, as well as "shortened" application protocols should be eluded when using modern universal adhesives in dentine. However, new generation universal adhesives based on innovative chemical formulations may probably allow clinicians to achieve long-term bonding performance with such simplified system also when employed in ER mode.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the 5-year clinical performance of two-step etch-and-rinse adhesives in noncarious cervical lesions (NCCL). METHODS AND MATERIALS The sample comprised 35 adults with at least two similar-sized NCCL. Seventy restorations were placed, according to one of the following groups: Adper Single Bond 2 (SB) and Ambar (AM). The restorations were placed incrementally using a resin composite (Opallis). The restorations were evaluated at baseline and after 6 and 18 months and 5 years using some items of the FDI criteria. The differences in the ratings of the two materials after 6 months, 18 months, and 5 years were performed with Friedman repeated measures ANOVA by rank and McNemar test for significance in each pair (α=0.05). RESULTS Five patients did not attend the 60-month recall. No significant differences were observed between the materials for any criteria evaluated. Twenty-one restorations failed (12 for SB and 9 for AM) after 60 months. Thus, the retention rate for SB at 60 months were 55.6% for SB and 71% for AM (p=0.32). After 60 months, 12 restorations (6 for SB and 6 AM) showed some loss of marginal adaptation (p=1.0). Slight marginal discoloration was observed in 10 restorations (6 for SB and 4 AM; p=0.91). Five restorations (2 for SB and 3 for AM) showed recurrences of caries (p=1.0). CONCLUSIONS Both two-step etch-and-rinse adhesives-Adper Single Bond 2, a polyalkenoic acid-containing adhesive, and Ambar, a 10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (MDP)-containing adhesive-showed acceptable clinical performance after 60 months.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate the effect of prolonging polymerization time on the 18 months clinical performance of a universal adhesive system used as etch-and-rinse (ER) and self-etch (SE). METHODS 140 restorations were randomly placed in 35 subjects according to the following groups: ER10 (light-curing for 10 s); ER40 (light-curing for 40 s); SE10 (light-curing for 10 s) and; SE40 (light-curing for 40 s/1200 mW/cm2). A resin composite was placed incrementally. The restorations were evaluated at baseline and after 18 months by using the FDI criteria. The following outcomes were evaluated: marginal staining, marginal adaptation, spontaneous post-operative sensitivity and recurrence of caries. The differences among the groups were calculated using Friedman repeated measures analysis of variance rank (α = 0.05). RESULTS After 18 months the retention/fracture rates were 88.9% (95%CI 74.1-95.6%) for ER10, 94.3% (95%CI 91.4-98.5%) for ER40, 77.2% (95%CI 60.1-87.9) for SE10 and 97.2% (95%CI 85.5-99.9%) for SE40. A significant difference was detected in the retention rate when SE10 was compared to the SE40 (p = 0.01). Also, ER40 showed a significant improvement of the marginal adaptation when compared to ER10 (p = 0.01). SIGNIFICANCE This is the first study that demonstrates an improvement in the clinical performance of universal adhesive systems in non-carious cervical lesions when prolonged light-cured was applied.

Abstract
Objective
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of immediate dentin sealing (IDS) technique using universal adhesive under simulated pulp pressure on microtensile bond strength (μTBS) of indirect resin composite restorations and dentin permeability.
Materials and Methods
Fifty extracted caries-free human third molars were used for specimens' preparation. Each molar's occlusal table was abraded flat and their roots were separated under continuous water cooling. Forty specimens were used for microtensile bond strength test (μTBST) evaluation. The μTBST specimens were randomly assigned to two groups according to the dentin sealing time; Immediate dentin sealing (IDS) and delayed dentin sealing (DDS). Each group was further subdivided into two subgroups according to the adhesive system used for dentin sealing: iBOND self-etch adhesive and GLUMA Bond Universal. All specimens were exposed to simulated pulp pressure for 1 week then restored using computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) resin composite blocks. The μTBS was evaluated for all tested subgroups after 24 hours and 6 months of water storage. The remaining 10 teeth were used for the preparation of dentin discs for dentin permeability evaluation. They were divided into two groups according to type of self-etch adhesive used. Fluid filtration rate was evaluated after etching, with smear layer and after adhesive application. Results obtained were statistically analyzed using Shapiro–Wilk test and Weibull analysis.
Results
Statistically significant difference was recorded between µTBS mean values of both IDS and DDS techniques at 24 hours and after 6 months of water storage. GLUMA Bond Universal adhesive had significantly higher bond strength compared with iBond at both IDS and DDS techniques, but both adhesives showed a significant reduction in the Weibull characteristic strength after 6 months of water storage. Significant reduction in dentin permeability was recorded by both adhesives without any significant difference between them.
Conclusions
The IDS technique using universal adhesive in self-etch mode is an effective strategy for improving the final bond strength of CAD/CAM resin composite restorations and reducing dentin permeability.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Functional acidic monomers are able to chemically interact with hydroxyapatite, and this bond appears to be very stable. Therefore, this aspect of the 10-MDP molecule made it attractive and added to self-etch adhesives. OBJECTIVES The objective of this Systematic Review (SR) and Meta-analysis (MA) was to determine whether systems with the 10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (10-MDP) functional monomer in their formula showed better clinical performance in restorations placed in noncarious cervical lesions (NCCL) when compared to systems without it. The PROSPERO registration number of the MA is CRD42016050538. DATA AND SOURCES An e-search was conducted through MEDLINE via PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Web of Science, OpenGrey, Clinical Trials, Current Controlled Trials, and EU Clinical Trials Register, and a search through the references of included studies was also performed. Randomized Controlled Clinical Trials, in which the effectiveness of self-etch adhesive systems, with or without the 10-MDP functional monomer for NCCL, was discussed, were included. Risk of bias was performed according to the Cochrane Collaboration tool, and the certainty of evidence was evaluated through GRADE. STUDY SELECTION The data were grouped, heterogeneity (I2) was tested, and after duplicate removal, 4208 manuscripts were retrieved. From these, 11 studies were included in the qualitative analysis (risk of bias), with nine classified as low risk and two unclear. GRADE analysis detected moderate-to-high certainty of evidence, so the quantitative synthesis [Meta-analysis (MA)] was performed including the 11 studies. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION There were no statistical differences in the clinical performance of restorations conducted using "with or without 10-MDP" adhesive types, for all evaluated criteria (p=0.05), with heterogeneity ranging from 0% to 53%. Thus, the presence of 10-MDP functional monomer did not influence the clinical performance of restorations placed in NCCL.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to analyze the literature on the bond strength of self-etching (SE) adhesives containing 10-MDP or other acidic functional monomers, comparing the bonding performance of both compositions. METHODS This study is registered in PROSPERO (CRD42020175715) and it followed the PRISMA Statement. The literature search was performed in PubMed, Web of Science, SciELO, Scopus, LILACS, IBECS, and BBO from the starting coverage date through 30 June 2021. Study eligibility criteria consisted of in vitro studies that evaluated the bond strength (microtensile, microshear, tensile or shear testing) to sound dentin/enamel of a minimum of two distinct SE systems, with at least one material containing 10-MDP and one other being comprised of a distinct acidic composition. Statistical analyses were carried out with RevMan 5.3.5 and using random-effects models with the significance level at p < 0.05. Also, Bayesian network meta-analysis (NMA) was conducted using MetaInsight V3 tool. RESULTS From 740 relevant studies evaluated in full-text analysis, 210 were incorporated to the systematic review and 206 in meta-analysis. The majority of studies was classified as having medium risk of bias (56.7%), followed by low (35.2%) and high (8.1%) risk of bias. Data from a total of 64 adhesive systems were collected, which favored the 10-MDP-based group at both dentin (overall effect: 6.98; 95% CI: 5.61, 8.36; p < 0.00001) and enamel (overall effect: 2.79; 95% CI: 1.62, 3.96; p < 0.00001) substrates. Microtensile testing was more frequently used (73.4%) in the included studies. Adhesives based on 10-MDP showed greater bonding performance than adhesives comprised of monomers such as PENTA, 6-MHP, 4-META, 4-MET, pyrophosphate esters, mixed composition or monomers derived from sulfonic acid (p ≤ 0.01); whereas similar bond strength values were verified between 10-MDP-based materials and those containing PEM-F, acrylamide phosphates, 4-AET, MAC-10, or monomers derived from polyacrylic and phosphonic acids (p ≥ 0.05). Adhesives based on GPDM were the only ones that resulted in greater bonding potential than the 10-MDP-based group (p = 0.03). Dental bonds in dentin were favored with the application of 2-step 10-MDP-based adhesives; whereas in enamel the dental bonds were favored for both 2-steps versions of adhesives, regardless of the presence of 10-MDP. Indirect evidence from NMA revealed that 1-step 10-MDP-free and universal 10-MDP-free adhesives seemed to perform worst in dentin and enamel, respectively. SIGNIFICANCE Adhesives containing 10-MDP showed higher bonding performance than materials formulated with other acidic ingredients, although this result relied on the type of mechanical testing, type of the substrate, acidic composition of the adhesive, and the application category of the SE system. This review summarized the effects of the foregoing factors on the adhesion to dental substrates.

Abstract
The study assessed the bonding performance of three universal adhesives on desensitized dentin with etch-and-rinse mode or self-etch mode after nano-hydroxyapatite (nHAp)-based desensitizers application. Simulated sensitive dentin specimens were prepared and separated into four groups: no treatment as the negative control, groups desensitized by Biorepair toothpaste, Dontodent toothpaste, or nHAp paste. Three universal adhesives of All-Bond Universal, Single Bond Universal, and Clearfil Universal Bond with etch-and-rinse or self-etch mode were bonded to the desensitized dentin specimens separately, followed by resin composite build-ups. Micro-tensile bond strength was measured using a micro-tensile tester. The wettability of desensitized dentin was evaluated by the contact angle of the adhesives. Resin infiltration was observed by confocal laser scanning microscopy. Dentin tubular occlusion and nanoleakage were observed by scanning electron microscope. The results showed that the etch-and-rinse or self-etch mode of each adhesive showed similar bond strength when bonding to nHAp-based desensitized dentin. The dentin surface was partially covered by desensitizers after desensitization. Compared with the self-etch mode, stronger demineralization and more reopened dentin tubules were observed in the etch-and-rinse mode after acid etching; longer resin tags and more nanoleakage in the resin-dentin interface were observed when using the etch-and-rinse mode. When bonding to nHAp-based desensitized dentin with universal adhesives, no significant difference in bond strength was found between self-etch mode or etch-and-rinse mode; while the latter produced more nanoleakage in the resin-dentin interfaces.

Abstract
This study evaluated the influence of Libidibia ferrea (Lf) extract used as dentin pretreatment on the resin-dentin bond strength stability and dentin endogenous enzymatic activity. The phytochemical profile (PP) of the Lf extract was evaluated by liquid chromatography; particle size, polydispersity index (PdI), and zeta potential (ZP) were evaluated by dynamic light scattering. The tested groups were ER-Scotchbond Universal (SBU) in the etch-and-rinse (ER) mode; ERLf-SBU in the ER mode + Lf after etching; SE- SBU in the self-etch (SE) mode; and LfSE-Lf before SBU in the SE mode. Sticks were obtained for microtensile bond strength tests and failure mode (24 hr and 12 months). The hybrid layer was evaluated using scanning electron microscopy. The endogenous enzymatic activity of the underlying dentin was analyzed by in situ zymography with the same treatments. The PP showed the presence of quercetin (2.6% w/w). Lf particles were considered large after the analysis of the PdI. The ZP remained stable over time. The ER and ERLf groups had lower bond strength after 12 months, but SE and LfSE remained stable. The predominant failure mode was adhesive for both times. ER and ERLf had longer resin tags and a thicker hybrid layer. The ER and LfSE groups showed higher enzymatic activity than the ERLf and SE groups after 12 months. The Lf extract may contribute to inhibit the dentin endogenous enzymatic activity when associated with an adhesive system in the ER mode.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of SPP with either fetal bovine serum (FBS) or deionized water (DW) on the bond strength (μTBS) of a Universal adhesive to dentin, in both etch-and-rinse (ER) and self-etch (SE) modes. The kinematic viscosity (cSt) of FBS and DW was measured at 25 °C ± 0.1 ºC. Seventy-two sound human molars were sectioned and randomly divided into three groups according to the SPP conditions: (1) Control (0 cm H2O), (2) SPP (15 cm H2O) with FBS, (3) SPP (15 cm H2O) with DW. Each group was subdivided (n = 10) based on the bonding modes: ER (37% phosphoric acid + ScothBond Universal Adhesive) or SE (ScothBond Universal Adhesive). Samples were then submitted to μTBS. Data were analyzed by Student's t test, two-way ANOVA and Tukey tests (p < 0.05). The cSt results showed that DW (23.59 ± 0.39) had significantly higher values than FBS (22.33 ± 0.06). With regard to SPP, the control group (36.1 MPa) had significantly higher values of μTBS when compared to the SPP using FBS (31.06 MPa) and SPP with DW (26.55 MPa). According to ANOVA, the bonding modes and the interaction of simulated pulpal pressure (SPP) did not statistically influence the results (p < 0.05). The presence of SPP reduced the bond strength of Universal adhesive to dentin. DW during SPP had significantly reduced bonding values when compared to FBS. Bonding strategies were not affected by SPP when evaluated in a short period of time (24 h).

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate the effect of different pre-treatments on the long-term bond strength of fiberglass posts luted either with dual-curing self-etch adhesives and core build-up composites or with a self-adhesive resin (SAR) cement. MATERIALS AND METHODS In total, 180 human root-filled teeth received post-space preparations and three different dentin pre-treatments (PTs): PT1, ethanol (99%); PT2, ethanol-tertiary-butanol-water-solution (AH Plus Cleaner, Dentsply Sirona; York, USA); and PT3, distilled water (control). Five luting systems were used: FU, Futurabond U (Voco; Cuxhaven, Germany); CL, Clearfil DC Bond (Kuraray Noritake; Okayama, Japan); GR, Gradia Core SE Bond (GC Europe NV; Leuven, Belgium); LU, LuxaBond Universal (DMG; Hamburg, Germany); and RX, RelyX Unicem 2 (3M; Minnesota, USA). Roots were cut into six slices (1 mm thick). From each root canal region, three slices were submitted to immediate and three to post-storage push-out testing. The latter were subjected to thermocycling (5-55°C, 6.000 cycles) and stored for six months in saline solution (0.9%, 37°C). Data were analysed using repeated measures ANOVA and chi-square tests (MV±SD). RESULTS Bond strength was significantly affected by material (p<0.0005), pre-treatment (p=0.016), and storage (p<0.0005; repeated-measures ANOVA). LU (18.8±8.1MPa) revealed significantly higher bond strength than RX (16.08±6.4MPa), GR (15.1±4.6MPa), CL (13.95±5.2MPa), and FU (13.7±6.3MPa). PT1 (16.5±6.9MPa) revealed significantly higher bond strength than PT3 (14.5±5.7MPa). CONCLUSIONS A universal adhesive in self-etch mode combined with a core build-up material revealed higher bond strength than a SAR cement, both interacted positively with Ethanol pre-treatment. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT Ethanol (99%) rinsing can be recommended as part of post and core pre-treatment for the investigated luting systems.

Abstract
Introduction: Erbium laser ablation as a method of tooth preparation and conditioning has shown promising results. Although previous studies have adopted various combinations of different laser parameters and several dentin adhesive systems, very few have investigated combining high-level and low-level ER:YAG lasers with Universal adhesives. This study aimed to assess the impact of using low-energy irradiation on the surface micro-topography and shear bond strength (SBS) of universal adhesive (UA) to the erbium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Er:YAG) laser-ablated dentin substrate, bonded in etch-and-rinse or self-etch adhesive mode. Methods: Eighty-seven extracted molars were sectioned to expose flat occlusal dentin surface; 60 teeth were divided equally into three groups according to the surface treatment; bur-cutting (B), Er:YAG high-energy laser cutting (L1 - 200 mJ, 20 Hz, 50 μs pulse), or L1 followed by low-energy laser modification (L1 /L2 - 80 mJ, 10 Hz, 50 μs pulse). Then each group was equally divided into two groups (n=10) according to the mode of application of the universal adhesive; either etch-and-rinse (ER) or self-etching (SE). The samples were subjected to thermocycling (5000 cycle between 5°C and 55°C), and SBS was tested. Two-way ANOVA and Tukey post hoc test were used to analyze the results. The remaining 27 samples were used to investigate the effect of the treatment on the topography of the treated dentin surfaces using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results: B/SE recorded the highest SBS (25.48 ± 2.6 MPa) followed by B/ER (23.20 ± 6.8 MPa) and L1 /L2 /SE (22.94 ± 4.1 MPa) and with no statistically significant difference between these groups (P >0.05). The lowest SBS results (P <0.05) were recorded for L1/SE (12.22 ± 3 MPa). No statistical differences were found between the SBS of L1 /L2 /ER and L1 /ER groups or between the SBS of L1 /L2 / ER and L1 /L2 /SE groups. Conclusion: A subsequent treatment of the Er:YAG laser-ablated dentin with low-energy laser modification mode (LMM) enhances the SBS of the tested UA when applied in SE mode.

Abstract
Noncarious cervical lesions (NCCLs) are a common clinical finding often linked with dentin hypersensitivity (DH). Aim. The aim of the study was to evaluate the influence of diode laser for the treatment of DH on microleakage of subsequent NCCL restorations. Materials and Methods. Forty-eight extracted human premolars were collected. All teeth received standardized cervical preparation on both the buccal and palatal surfaces and were randomly divided into three groups (n = 16) according to the restorative material used: nanohybrid composite resin (CR), resin-modified glass ionomer (RMGI), and conventional glass ionomer (GIC). The prepared cavities on the palatal surfaces were treated by diode laser using SIROlaser Blue (Sirona Dental Systems, Bensheim, Germany) prior to restoration, while preparations on the buccal surfaces were directly restored. After thermocycling, the teeth were immersed in methylene blue dye for microleakage evaluation under 40x magnification at both occlusal and cervical margins. The Kruskal-Wallis test followed by the Bonferroni tests was conducted to determine inter- and intragroup differences (P < 0.05). Results. All restorative materials tested showed some degree of microleakage with no statistically significantly different scores with or without the use of laser desensitization prior to restorative treatment. Group CR showed the least microleakage, followed by group RMGI, while group GIC showed the highest. Cervical margins showed greater microleakage than the occlusal margins where the difference was statistically significant in the RMGI group without laser pretreatment (P = 0.006) and in both groups CR (P = 0.02) and RMGI (P = 0.006) with the laser pretreatment. Conclusion. Application of diode laser for the treatment of DH prior to the restoration of teeth with NCCL did not affect the microleakage of all the restorative materials tested. All the materials showed some degree of microleakage, which was higher in gingival margins compared to occlusal margins. The resin composite shows the least microleakage among all the tested materials.

Abstract
Objectives
To evaluate the effect of different artificial aging methods on the bond strength of a resin composite associated with a universal adhesive (Scotchbond Universal) used under two etching approaches (self-etch [SE] or etch-and-rinse [ER]) to enamel and dentin substrates.
Materials and Methods
A total of 96 noncarious human third molars were prepared and randomly divided according to three factors (
n
= 6): substrate (enamel and dentin), adhesive approach (SE and ER), and aging method (water storage for 24 hours, 6 months, or 1 year; subjected to 10,000, 20,000, or 30,000 thermal cycles; and sodium hypochlorite [NaOCl] storage for 1 or 5 hours).
Statistical Analysis
Microshear bond strength tests were conducted, and the collected data (MPa) were subjected to three-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) with post hoc Bonferroni tests (
p
< 0.05) and Weibull analysis. The failure pattern was also evaluated.
Results
Three-way ANOVA revealed that the factors “substrate” (
p
= 0.00) and “aging method” (
p
= 0.00) had a significant effect on the bond strength, but the factor “adhesive approach” did not (
p
= 0.84). The bond strength in the enamel group for the SE approach was negatively affected under 20,000 and 30,000 thermal cycles. Weibull presented the highest

in the NaOCl storage for the 5 hours group to enamel using the SE and to dentin using ER approaches. Adhesive/mixed failures were predominant for all groups.
Conclusion
Thermocycling aging (20,000 and 30,000 cycles) significantly reduced the bond strength to enamel using the SE approach. On the contrary, storage with the NaOCl method proved to increase bond strength under the evaluated conditions.

Abstract
To evaluate the influence of the pre-treatment with 2.5% nanoparticulate chitosan (2.5% NanoChi) solution on eroded dentin before the restorative dental treatment. The sample consisted of 22 patients (age between 33 and 52 years) with shallow or medium erosion lesions located in two homologous teeth. The teeth were randomly assigned according to dentin treatment: with 2.5% NanoChi and without with chitosan (control). The NanoChi were applied immediately after acid etching. The teeth were restored with Single Bond Universal (3 M) and Charisma resin (Kulzer). Analyzes were done using modified USPHS (retention, secondary caries, marginal adaptation, and sensitivity) and photographic (color, marginal pigmentation, and anatomical form) criteria at 7 days (baseline) and 1 year. Population demographics, Kaplan-Meier estimates and log-rank test (Mantel-Cox) were calculated for 1 year (α = 0.05). No significant difference was found in the survival rates between groups (p > 0.05) at 7 days and 1 year after treatment. After 7 days, 100% of the restorations were scored as Alpha on all criteria. After 1 year, 91% of the NanoChi restorations were scored as Alpha and 9% as Charlie for the retention, marginal adaptation, and anatomical form criteria, while 86% of the control restorations (without NanoChi) received the Alpha score and 14% received the Charlie. Secondary caries, sensitivity, color, and marginal pigmentation criteria were scored as Alpha in 100% of the restorations. The biomodification of eroded dentin with 2.5% NanoChi did not influence the survival of the restorations after 1 year. The application of 2.5% NanoChi on eroded dentin did not increase failures of resin restorations after 1 year and it can be used as a pre-treatment solution.

Abstract
This study evaluated the effects of remaining dentin thickness (RDT), different smear layers, and aging on the microtensile bond strength (µTBS) of universal adhesives to dentin when applied in self-etch mode. Ninety-six human third molars were randomly allocated to 12 groups (n=8) based on adhesives: ClearfilTM SE Bond 2 (SE, control), ClearfilTM Universal Bond (CU) and ScotchBondTM Universal Adhesive (SB); smear layers: prepared either with 600-grit SiC paper (P) or regular diamond bur (B); and aging: stored in distilled water at 37ºC for 24 hours (24h) or 1 year (1y). µTBS was significantly affected by the type of adhesives, smear layers, and aging (p<0.001). A statistically significant and positive linear relationship was also observed between µTBS and RDT (p<0.05) in all the tested groups, except for SEB1y and CUB24h (p>0.05). RDT, smear layer types, and aging can influence the bonding performances of universal adhesives when applied in self-etch mode.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare the bonding durability of three different self-etch adhesives to primary enamel and dentin, and to investigate the effect of mild salivary contamination followed by air drying on the bonding durability. METHODS Two hundred and forty enamel specimens were divided randomly into 16 groups (n=15/group)according to the adhesive system [self-etch adhesives: Clearfil SE Bond(SE), AdperTM Easy One (EO), Scotchbond Universal (SBU); total-etch adhesive: AdperTM Single Bond Plus(SL)], contamination status (non-contaminated vs. salivary-contaminated) and storage condition (stored in distilled water for 24 h vs. aging mode 5 000 thermal cycles in 5 ℃ and 55 ℃). Two hundred and forty dentin specimens were assigned in the same way. Shear bond strength for 12 specimens in each group were measured. The adhesive interface for the residual specimens in each group was observed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM). Data were analyzed by three-way analysis of variance and Tukey test(P < 0.05). RESULTS For primary enamel, total-etch adhesive showed higher initial shear bond strength values (28.92±1.83) MPa and shear bond strength values (27.27±3.03) MPa after thermal cycles compared with the other groups, and the difference between the groups was statistically significant (P < 0.01). Shear bond strength values of EO decreased significantly in salivary-treated groups, regardless of storage conditions, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.01). For primary dentin, shear bond strength values of EO decreased significantly in salivary-treated groups after 24 h (P < 0.01). After 5 000 thermal cycles, total-etch adhesive showed significantly lower shear bond strength values (14.31±1.97) MPa compared with the other groups, and the difference between the groups was statistically significant (P < 0.01), and shear bond strength values of EO were significantly lower than those in SE and SBU groups (P < 0.01), regardless of contamination status. CONCLUSION Total-etch adhesive SL has better bonding durability to primary enamel. SE and SBU have better bonding durability to primary dentin and have a certain resistance to salivary contamination, while the bonding performance of EO is compromised greatly by mild salivary contamination followed by air drying.

Abstract
Background To evaluate the microtensile bond strength of indirect resin composite bonded to dentin using five different adhesives strategies. Material and Methods Forty specimens (Solidex) were produced and randomly into five groups with different adhesives strategies: (G1)- Single Bond Universal + etch + silane + RelyX Ultimate, (G2)- Single Bond Universal + silane + RelyX Ultimate, (G3)- Single Bond Universal + etch + RelyX Ultimate, (G4)- Single Bond Universal + RelyX Ultimate, and (G5)-Scotchbond Multi-purpose + RelyX ARC. After cementation the specimens were stored in 100% humidity for 24hours at 37°C. The specimens were sectioned perpendicular to the adhesive interface to obtain beams and submitted to microtensile test. Microtensile values were expressed in MPa and analyzed by one-way ANOVA and multiple comparison Tukey tests (α=0.05). Results The mean bond strength in MPa groups were: G1=11,48, G2=14,15, G3=16,95, G4=17,03 and G5=16,80. Statistical analysis showed that the bond strength values were not significantly affected by the different adhesive strategies. Conclusions Cementation of dentin to indirect resin composite cannot be significantly affected by different adhesive strategies used. The specimens treated with silane, etch associated with Single bond universal did not increase bond strength values. Key words:Adhesives, dental cements, dentin.

Abstract
AIM The study aimed to assess graphene oxide (GO) adhesive and its dentin interaction using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), MicroRaman spectroscopy and Microtensile bond strength (μTBS). MATERIALS AND METHODS Experimental GOA and control adhesives (CA) were fabricated. Presence of GO within the experimental adhesive resin was assessed using SEM and Micro-Raman spectroscopy. Ninety specimens were prepared, sixty teeth were utilized for μTBS, twenty for SEM analysis of interface for CA and GOA and ten were assessed using microRaman spectroscopy. Each specimen was sectioned and exposed dentine was conditioned (35% phosphoric acid) for 10 s. The surface was coated twice with adhesive (15 s) and photopolymerized (20 s). Composite build-up on specimen was photo-polymerized. Among the bonded specimens, thirty specimen were assessed using Micro-Raman spectrometer, SEM and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), whereas remaining specimens were divided in to three sub-groups (n = 10) based on the storage of 24 h, 8 weeks and 16 weeks. μTBS testing was performed at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min using a microtensile tester. The means of μ-tbs were analyzed using ANOVA and post hoc Tukey multiple comparisons test. RESULTS No significant difference in μTBS of CA and GOA was observed. Storage time presented a significant interaction on the μTBS (p < 0.01). The highest and lowest μTBS was evident in CA (30.47 (3.55)) at 24 h and CA (22.88 (3.61)) at 18 weeks. Micro-Raman analysis identified peaks of 1200 cm-1 to 1800 cm1, D and G bands of GO nanoparticles in the resin. Uniform distribution of graphene oxide nanoparticles was present at the adhesive and hybrid layer. CONCLUSION GO showed interaction within adhesive and tooth dentin similar to CA, along with formation of hybrid layer. In ideal conditions (absence of nanoleakage), graphene oxide modified adhesive shows comparable bond strength and durability of resin dentine bond.

Abstract
This article reviews the current concepts for operatively managing carious lesions extending into dentine with minimal removal of tooth structure and restoring with dentine adhesives and direct composite resin. It looks sequentially at the operative steps involved including remineralisation with bioactive cements, bonding to caries-affected dentine including smear-layer modification using HOCl, creation of an acid-base resistance zone,steps to optimise the performance of all-in-one adhesives, and incremental placement of direct composite resin to improve bond strengths to cavity floor dentine. It explores how understanding the phenomenon of colour-shifting at the composite resin-enamel/dentine restoration borders can help in creating near "invisible" restoration margins through a "chameleon" effect. With the increased risks of transmission of Covid-19 when aerosol generating procedures are carried out in Dentistry, following a minimally invasive approach to managing dental caries should be given serious consideration.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to explore the impact of the interaction between an MDP-based universal adhesive system in etch-and-rinse mode and two proteolytic inhibitors on the longevity of restorations bonded to artificially-affected-dentin substrates. 90 sound human third molars were randomly distributed into three groups according to the substrate: N-no challenges-control (stored in artificial saliva), ACD-artificial caries dentin (6 h DE + 18 h-RE/5 days + 48 h RE) and ERO-artificial erosion dentin (3 × 5 min/5 days with orange juice). They were further redistributed according to dentin pretreatment: W- water (control), CHX-2% digluconate chlorhexidine and E64- 5 μM E64-Trans-Epoxysuccinyl-L-Leucylamido-(4-guanidino) butane, which resulted in the following 9 groups (n = 10): N-W, N-CHX, N-E64, ACD-W, ACD-CHX, ACD-E64, ERO-W, ERO-CHX and ERO-E64. All specimens were restored with Adper Single Bond Universal (Etch-and-rinse mode)/Filtek Z250. Sticks (0.64 mm2) were obtained and subjected to microtensile test (μTBS) in a universal testing machine at 0.5 mm/min for 7-days, 6 and 18-month analyses. Failure modes were classified using optical microscopy (40X). Data were statistically analyzed by three-way ANOVA and Tukey tests (p < 0.05). All individual factors (p < 0.0001) and interaction between factors were statistically significant (substrate X pretreatment (p = 0.00093); substrate X time (p = 0.01035) and pretreatment X time (p = 0.0035). Caries-affected substrate was the most compromised one, disregarding the pretreatment. CHX was mostly affected compared with E64 up to 18 months, possibly due to its calcium-dependent mechanism.

Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the interaction of a MDP-based universal dentin bonding system (DBS) with Er, Cr: YSGG laser irradiation, measuring the microtensile bond strength to dentin over a six-month period. The experimental design involved three factors: DBS (Adper Scotchbond Universal; Clearfil SE Bond, Adper Scotchbond Multipurpose and Adper Single Bond 2), laser (Control and Er, Cr: YSGG), and time (initial- 7 days and 6 months). Eighty dentin samples from molars were prepared (n=10) with laser irradiation after primer and DBS application. After 7 days, were subjected to micro tensile bond strength test. The data were analyzed by three-way ANOVA and Tukey tests (p<0.05). Both DBS and laser significantly affected the bonding performance and their interaction was statistically significant (p=0.0194). The self-etching mode of the MDP-based universal DBS maintained the bond strength on dentin irradiated with ER, Cr: YSGG after 6 months, while bonding with all other DBS deteriorated.

Abstract
Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the shear bond strengths (SBS) of different nano-resin-based composites (RBCs) to resin-modified glass-ionomer cement (RMGIC) after the application of different adhesion protocols. Material and Methods Three RBCs (Filtek One Bulk Fill [FOBF], Tetric N-Ceram Bulk Fill [TNCBF], and Filtek Z350 XT [Z350XT]) were used as layering materials over GC Fuji II LC RMGIC. Three adhesive systems — Total-etch (OptiBond Solo Plus [OB]), self-etch (CLEAR FIL SE Bond 2 [CFSE]), and a universal bond (Single Bond Universal [SBU]) — were used. In total, 160 RMGIC blocks were prepared. Ten samples (n = 10) were layered with the same material to form a reference-cohesive control group. The remaining samples were distributed among the following groups: No treatment [NT]; Total-etch [OB]; Self-etch [CFSE]; Universal bond in the “total-etch” mode [SBU-TE]; and Universal bond in the “self-etch” mode [SBU-SE]. Samples were stored, and aged by thermocycling (5000 cycles at 5 °C / 55 °C, 30 s) and then prepared for SBS testing. Fracture modes were examined by stereomicroscopy. Data were collected and analyzed statistically at a significance level of P<0.05. Results The highest mean SBS (14.30±1.08 MPa) was reported in the OB group with the TNCBF material, while the lowest was in the NT group (5.05±0.69 MPa) with FOBF. Samples in the NT group showed SBS statistically significantly lower than those of samples in all other groups (P<0.0001). Bulk-fill materials had significantly higher SBS than Z350XT in OB, CFSE, and SBU-SE (P<0.0001). SBU-TE produced SBS statistically significantly lower than those of other groups for FOBF (P<0.0001), and lower than that of OB for TNCBF (P=0.027). Conclusion OB, CFSE, and SBU-SE are reliable adhesion protocols for bonding bulk-fill RBCs to RMGIC when the “sandwich technique” is used for restorations. However, SBU-TE may not be effective in such procedures.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to assess the effects in the dentin bond strength of dental adhesives (DAs) and biological effects using zinc (Zn)-doped mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBN-Zn). Synthesized MBN and MBN-Zn were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction and the Brunauer, Emmett and Teller (BET) method. The matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) inhibition effects of DA-MBN and DA-MBN-Zn were analyzed. The microtensile bond strength (MTBS) test was conducted before and after thermocycling to investigate the effects of MBN and MBN-Zn on the MTBS of DAs. The biological properties of DA-MBN and DA-MBN-Zn were analyzed with human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs). Compared with the DA, only the DA-1.0% MBN and DA-1.0% MBN-Zn exhibited a statistically significant decrease in MMP activity. The MTBS values after thermocycling were significantly increased in DA-1.0% MBN and DA-1.0% MBN-Zn compared with the DA (p < 0.05). It was confirmed via the MTT assay that there was no cytotoxicity for hDPSCs at 50% extract. In addition, significant increases in the alkaline phosphatase activity and Alizarin Red S staining were observed only in DA-1.0%MBN-Zn. These data suggest the 1.0% MBN and 1.0% MBN-Zn enhance the remineralization capability of DAs and stabilize the long-term MTBS of DAs by inhibiting MMPs.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the air-blowing temperature and water storage time on the micro-tensile bond strength (μTBS) of five universal adhesive systems to dentin. The bond strength with two different air-blowing temperatures (60±2ºC and 23±2ºC) was measured after water storage at 37ºC for 24 h and 100 days respectively. The fracture surface on dentin side was observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Three-way ANOVA revealed a significant effect of universal system (p<0.001) and air-blowing temperature (p<0.001) on bond strength to dentin except water-storage time (p=0.145). The interaction within three factors was significantly different (p<0.001). It could be concluded that the μTBS of universal systems to dentin was material-depended. The higher and more stable bonding performance of universal systems on dentin could be achieved by air-blowing at 60±2ºC temperature. In addition, the quantity of voids in the adhesive layer of aceton-based universal adhesive was significantly reduced by higher temperature.
