Abstract
BACKGROUND Recently, a new generation of high-strength flowable dental composites has been introduced by manufacturers. The manufacturers claim that these materials have enhanced mechanical and physical properties and are suitable for use in a wide range of direct anterior and posterior restorations, even in high-stress bearing areas. AIM The objective of this study was to assess certain physical and mechanical properties of these recently introduced high-strength flowable composites in comparison to conventional multipurpose dental composites. METHODS Four types of high-strength flowable composites (Genial Universal FLO, Gaenial Universal Injectable, Beautifil Injectable, and Beautifil Flow Plus) were tested in experimental groups, while a nanohybrid conventional composite (Filtek Z350 XT) was used as the control. For flexure properties, ten rectangular samples (2 × 2 × 25 mm) were prepared from each composite material and subjected to 5000 cycles of thermocycling. Samples were then subjected to flexural strength testing using the universal testing machine. Another twenty disc-shaped specimens of dimensions (5 mm diameter × 2 mm thickness) were fabricated from each composite material for surface roughness (Ra) (n = 10) and hardness (VHN) test (n = 10). All samples underwent 5000 cycles of thermocycling before testing. Additionally, microleakage testing was conducted on 60 standardized class V cavities prepared on molar teeth and divided randomly into five groups (n = 12). Cavities were then filled with composite according to the manufacturer's instructions and subjected to thermocycling for 1000 cycles before testing using methylene blue solution and a stereomicroscope. RESULTS All tested materials were comparable to the control group in terms of flexural strength and surface roughness (p > 0.05), with Gaenial Universal FLO exhibiting significantly higher flexural strength compared to the other flowable composite materials tested. However, all tested materials demonstrated significantly lower elastic modulus and surface hardness than the control group (p < 0.05). The control group exhibited higher microleakage scores, while the lowest scores were observed in the Gaenial Universal FLO material (p < 0.05) CONCLUSION: The physical and mechanical behaviors of the different high-strength flowable composites investigated in this study varied. Some of these materials may serve as suitable alternatives to conventional composites in specific applications, emphasizing the importance of dentists being familiar with material properties before making material selections.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To compare, in vitro, resin cement excess removal techniques at the veneer-tooth interface. MATERIALS AND METHODS Anterior human teeth were restored with ceramic veneers and randomly divided according to the following techniques (n = 10): removal of excess resin cement with brush and dental floss, followed by light-curing with Valo (Group 1) or Elipar (Group 2) for 1 min and 40 s; tack-curing with Valo (Group 3) or Elipar (Group 4) for 1 s; and tack-curing with Valo (Group 5) or Elipar (Group 6) for 5 s. The tack-curing was followed by removal of excess with probe and dental floss and light-curing for 1 min and 40 s. The area of excess resin cement (mm2) was measured in micro-CT images using AutoCAD program. The failures at the cervical margin in the X, Y, and Z axes (µm) of greater value were measured using the DataViewer program. The specimens were submitted to microleakage with 2% basic fuchsin. RESULTS According to the Kruskal-Wallis and multiple comparison test, the highest area of excess resin cement was found in Group 1 (5.06 mm2), which did not differ statistically from Groups 2 (3.70 mm2) and 5 (2.19 mm2). Groups 2, 3 (1.73 mm2), 4 (1.14 mm2), and 5 (2.18 mm2) did not differ statistically. Group 6 (0.77 mm2) obtained the lowest value, which did not differ statistically from Groups 3 and 4. According to the Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn test, there was no significant difference in failures in X (p = 0.981), Y (p = 0.860), and Z (p = 0.638) axes and no significant difference in microleakage (p = 0.203) among the groups. CONCLUSIONS Tack-curing for 1 s or 5 s, followed by removal of excess resin cement using a probe and a dental floss, tended to result in a lower amount of excess material around the margin. CLINICAL RELEVANCE The technique used for resin cement excess removal influences the amount of excess leaved at the veneer-tooth interface. Tack-curing for 1 s or 5 s is recommended to mitigate the excess resin cement.

Abstract
Flowable bulk-fill resin-based composites (BF-RBCs) represent a new and interesting alternative for the bulk-fill restorative techniques in the posterior region. However, they comprise a heterogeneous group of materials, with important differences in composition and design. Therefore, the aim of the present systematic review was to compare the main properties of flowable BF-RBCs, including their composition, degree of monomer conversion (DC), polymerization shrinkage and shrinkage stress, as well as flexural strength. The search was conducted following PRISMA guidelines in the Medline (PubMed), Scopus and Web of Science databases. In vitro articles reporting on the DC, polymerization shrinkage/shrinkage stress, and flexural strength of flowable BF-RBCs strength were included. The QUIN risk-of-bias (RoB) tool was used for assessing the study quality. From initially 684 found articles, 53 were included. Values for DC ranged between 19.41 and 93.71%, whereas polymerization shrinkage varied between 1.26 and 10.45%. Polymerization shrinkage stresses reported by most studies ranged between 2 and 3 MPa. Flexural strength was above 80 MPa for most materials. A moderate RoB was observed in most studies. Flowable BF-RBCs meet the requirements to be indicated for bulk fill restoration technique in the posterior region. However, important variations among composition and properties hinder extrapolation of the results to materials different from those reported here. Clinical studies are urgently required to assess their performance under a real working scenario.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to evaluate the periapical status (PAS) of restored non-root-filled (RNRF) teeth amongst a group of patients attending dental teaching clinics at Jordan University of Science & Technology. It also aimed to assess the association of type and quality of coronal restorations and periapical disease. METHODS This was a cross-sectional study. To be included, participants needed to have at least 1 non-root-filled tooth restored with either direct or indirect restoration. A sample of 491 participants was examined. Clinical examination and digital periapical radiographs were used to record material used and assess the quality of the restorations. Chi-square test and logistic regression analysis were used to analyse the association between PAS and gender, age, restoration material/type, and quality. RESULTS Overall, 26.3% of the participants were diagnosed with apical periodontitis (AP) on 1 or more of the examined teeth. No significant differences in the prevalence of AP were observed when comparing amalgam to composite or indirect restorations (P = .386). Furthermore, no association was reported between AP and gender or age, while a significant association was observed with the restoration's quality (P < .001). CONCLUSIONS The high prevalence of AP in the examined sample is of clinical concern and suggests that more attention should be directed towards dental health awareness in Jordan. Teeth restored with inadequate restorations were twice as likely to have AP.

Abstract
Volumetric shrinkage (VS) of conventional, bulk-fill, and core build-up resin-based composites (RBCs) of various thickness (1-5 mm) was measured using the modified bonded-disk method with confocal laser scanning microscopy. Additionally, the bottom-to-top ratio of Vickers hardness (%VH) was measured. Conventional RBCs exhibited significantly higher VS than bulk-fill and core build-up RBCs (p<0.05). As specimen thickness increased, VS relative to volume (%VS) and difference in VS at each depth (VSdepth) decreased. For conventional RBCs, there was a significant drop in VSdepth between 1 mm and 2 mm (p<0.05), and another drop was observed between 3 mm and 4 mm (p<0.05) where %VH decreased below 90%. For bulk-fill and core build-up RBCs, VSdepth decreased significantly between 2 mm and 3 mm (p<0.05), but %VH exceeded 90% even in 5 mm deep cavities. These results indicated that post-curing contributed to lower shrinkage in deeper layers, and that conventional RBCs were not adequately polymerized at the depth of over 3 mm.

Abstract
This in vitro study aimed to compare the microleakage and marginal integrity of methacrylate/ormocer-based bulk-fill composite (BFC) restorations used in cervical marginal relocation with two different layering thicknesses in mesio-occlusal-distal (MOD) cavities exposed to thermo-mechanical loading. Standard MOD cavities were prepared in 60 mandibular molars and assigned into three groups: x-tra fil/AF + x-tra base/XB, Tetric N-Ceram Bulk Fill/TNB + Tetric N-Flow Bulk Fill/TFB, and Admira Fusion x-tra/AFX + Admira Fusion x-base/AFB. Each group was further divided into two subgroups (2 mm and 4 mm) based on the thickness of flowable BFCs (n = 10). The specimens were subjected to thermo-mechanical loading (240,000 cycles) and immersed in 0.2% methylene blue. Following mesiodistal sectioning, the specimens were examined under stereomicroscope (×25) and scored (0-3) for microleakage. Marginal integrity was examined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Descriptive statistical methods and the chi-square test were used to evaluate the data (p < 0.05). While there was no statistically significant difference in gingival cement microleakage in the XB and AFB specimens with a 4 mm thickness, microleakage was significantly increased in the TFB specimen (p = 0.604, 0.481, 0.018 respectively). A significantly higher amount of score 0 coronal microleakage was detected in the AFX2 mm + AFB4 mm compared to the TNB2 mm + TFB4 mm (p = 0.039). The SEM examination demonstrated better marginal integrity in groups with 2 mm thick flowable BFCs. Ormocer and methacrylate-based materials can be used in marginal relocation with thin layers.

Abstract
This study is aimed at evaluating the marginal microleakage of bulk-fill class II restorations after thermocycling. Thirty-two human third molars received class II cavities prepared on mesial and distal faces. The cavities were bonded according to the adhesive protocol (total or self-etching). The cavities were then restored with composite and divided into 8 groups based on the composite combination: layering technique with Filtek Z350XT (G1 and G5), first layer with Filtek Z350 XT Flowable Restorative and then Filtek Z350XT (G2 and G6), bulk-fill technique with Filtek One Bulk Fill (G3 and G7), and first layer with Filtek One Bulk Fill Flow and Filtek Z350 XT (G4 and G8). The restorations were then subjected to thermocycling (2000 cycles, 5°C and 55°C, dwell time of 30 s). After aging, the restored teeth were immersed in methylene blue for 48 hours. The restorations (n = 32) were sectioned in the middle (two sections). The microleakage results were analyzed by two-way ANOVA followed by Tukey's post hoc test (α = 0.05). The groups did not differ statistically from each other in terms of marginal microleakage (p = 0.295). It can be concluded that there is no difference in the percentage of microleakage between conventional and bulk-fill resins on both consistencies, as well as there is also no statistically significant difference when the adhesive system is used in a conventional or self-etching mode.

Abstract
AIM This study aimed to compare the best restorative approach for the conservative class I cavity by comparing flowable and nanohybrid composites versus the placement technique regarding surface microhardness, porosity, and presence of interface gaps. MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty human molars were divided into four groups (n = 10). Standardized class I cavities were prepared and restored using one of the following materials: Group I - Flowable composite placed by incremental technique; group II - Flowable composite placed in one increment; group III - Nanohybrid composite placed by incremental technique; and group IV - Nano-hybrid composite placed in one increment. After finishing and polishing, specimens were sectioned into two halves. One section was chosen randomly for the Vickers microhardness (HV) evaluation and the other section was used for the assessment of porosities and interfacial adaptation (IA). RESULTS The surface microhardness range was 28.5-76.2 (p < 0.05), mean pulpal microhardness range was 27.6-74.4 (p < 0.05). Flowable composites had lower HV than conventional counterparts. The mean pulpal HV of all materials exceeded 80% of occlusal HV. Restorative approaches did not statistically differ in porosities. However, IA percentages were higher in flowable materials compared to nanocomposites. CONCLUSION Flowable resin composite materials have lower microhardness than Nanohybrid composites. In small class I cavities, the number of porosities was similar between the different placement techniques and the interfacial gaps were highest in the flowable composites. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The use of nanohybrid resin composite to restore class I cavities will result in better hardness and less interfacial gaps compared to flowable composites.

Abstract
Bulk-fill composites enable timesaving and less technical-sensitive application of restorations. This study investigated and compared the marginal integrity of classical and bulk-fill composite restorations in primary and permanent molars before and after thermo-mechanical loading (TML). Two Class II cavities were prepared in each of 20 primary and 20 permanent molars. The molars were randomised in four groups for each molar type. Groups 1 and 5 were restored with a high-viscous bulk-fill composite (Tetric PowerFill), groups 2 and 6 were restored with a flowable bulk-fill composite (Tetric PowerFlow), groups 3 and 7 were restored with a high-viscous classical composite (Tetric Prime), and groups 4 and 8 were restored with a flowable classical composite (Tetric EvoFlow). In permanent molars, the flowable composites were covered with a 2-mm layer of high-viscous composite (groups 6 and 8). The restorations were subjected to TML in a custom-made chewing machine (5-50 °C, 2 min dwelling time, × 1000; 400 ,000 loading cycles, 1.7 Hz, 49 N), and quantitative marginal analysis was conducted using scanning electron microscopy. Marginal integrity of each restoration was calculated as a percentage of continuous margins before and after TML. The tested high-viscous bulk-fill restoration showed similarly high marginal integrity in primary and permanent molars as the classical restoration. The tested flowable bulk-fill restoration showed the lowest marginal integrity compared to all other restorations after TML. In contrast to flowable bulk-fill restorations, high-viscous bulk-fill restorations show similar marginal integrity as classical hybrid composite restorations after TML, in both primary and permanent molars.

Abstract
Introduction The use of technology in bulk-fill composites (BCs) has reduced the stresses caused by polymerization shrinkage, debonding, microleakage, or posttreatment sensitivity in them. This study was conducted to determine whether bleaching affects the microleakage of class II restoration with bulk-fill material. Materials and Methods This laboratory study was performed on 40 normal human premolars in 4 groups (n = 20). Class II cavities were prepared in mesial and distal surfaces of the teeth with dimensions of 2 × 2 × 4 mm. Then, based on the bleaching process by 20% carbamide peroxide gel and using two types of composites, the restored cavities were randomly divided into 4 groups: (1) CC without bleaching (CC group), (2) BC without bleaching (BC group), (3) CC with bleaching (CCB group), and (4) BC with bleaching (BCB group). Then, the samples were thermocycled for 1000 cycles at a temperature range of 5–55°C, and they were immersed in 0.6% alkaline fuchsine in order to penetrate into the pigment for 24 h. After cutting, the samples were placed under a stereomicroscope (40%) to determine microleakage. The data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and a p value <0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Results Microleakage was determined in the CC group (0.97 ± 0.42), BC group (1.08 ± 0.54), CCB group (1.19 ± 0.37), and BCB group (0.30 ± 0.47). There were also no significant differences in the mean microleakage between the groups. No cases with zero microleakage (no microleakage) and grade 3 of microleakage (pigment penetration into the axial wall) were observed in the samples. Also, a two-by-two comparison of significant differences between CC and BC groups (p=0.89), CC and CCB groups (p=0.45), CC and BCB groups (p=0.11), BC and CCB groups (p=0.87), BC and BCB groups (p=0.41), and CCB and BCB groups (p=0.86) showed that the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion Results showed no difference between microleakage of BC and CC with and without bleaching, and bleaching had the same effect on microleakage of these two types of composites.

Abstract
This study evaluated the effect of the material thickness on shrinkage stress and bottom-to-top hardness ratio of conventional and bulk-fill composites. Six commercial composites were selected based on their different technologies: Two conventional (C1, C2), two high-viscosity bulk-fill (HVB1, HVB2), and two low-viscosity bulk-fill (LVB1, LVB2). Shrinkage stress was analyzed for five specimens with 2 mm thickness (C-factor 0.75 and volume 24 mm3 ) and five specimens with 4 mm thickness (C-factor 0.375 and volume 48 mm3 ) for 300 s in a universal testing machine. Bottom-to-top hardness ratio values were obtained from Knoop microhardness measurements in specimens with 2- and 4-mm thickness (n = 5). Thickness increase resulted in significantly higher shrinkage stress for all materials with the exception of HVB2 and LVB1. C1, C2, HVB2, and LVB1 showed lower bottom-to-top hardness ratios at 4 mm than at 2 mm. Only LVB2 presented a bottom-to-top hardness ratio lower than 80% at 2 mm, while HVB1 surpassed this threshold at 4 mm of depth. The results suggest that the increase of composite thickness affected the shrinkage stress values. Also, thickness increase resulted in lower bottom-to-top hardness ratio. HVB1 showed better behavior than other bulk-fill materials, with low stress and adequate bottom-to-top hardness ratio at 4 mm thickness.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES to test if cavity dimensions and restorative protocol have potential to influence in-vitro adaptation of class II restoration after simulated thermo-occlusal stressing. METHODS A total of 32 prepared teeth were randomly assigned to one of the 4 experimental groups depending on cavity size, composite system and filling technique; group 1: small cavity and multi-layered conventional restorative composite (Tetric Evo-ceram: TEC), group 2: small cavity and flowable bulk-filled composite (SDRFlow: SDR) + one single occlusal layer of conventional restorative composite (TEC), group 3: large cavity and multilayered conventional restorative composite (TEC) and group 4: large cavity and bulk-filled flowable composite (SDR) + one single occlusal layer conventional restorative composite (TEC). All specimens were submitted to 500'000 cycles of thermomechanical loading (50 N, 5 to 55 °C). The proximal tooth-restoration interface was analyzed quantitatively by SEM, prior and after thermomechanical loading. RESULTS Before loading, continuous enamel adaptation varied from 61.49% (Gr 1) to 68.39% (Gr 4) proximally and from 50.93% (Gr2) to 68.65% (Gr1) cervically, with no statistical difference among groups for both segments. After thermomechanical loading, continuous enamel adaptation varied from 36.6% (Gr2) to 46.6% (Gr1) proximally, without significant difference, and from 20.2% (Gr4) to 51.3% (Gr1) cervically; statistical differences in cervical enamel adaptation were found in-between groups 1 and 2 (p = 0.0479), 1 and 4 (P = 0.0116), 2 and 3 (p = 0.0028) and 3 and 4 (p = 0.001). Before loading, dentin continuous adaptation varied from 55.32% (Gr3) to 81.82% (Gr4) with statistical difference in-between those groups (p = 0.045); after loading, dentin continuous adaptation varied from 31.56% (gr2) to 51% (Gr4) with a statistical difference between those 2 groups (p = 0.019). The drop in adaptations values after loading was significant in all groups and segments. CONCLUSIONS The impact of the restorative technique and cavity size on marginal adaptation appeared essentially after simulated fatigue for enamel adaptation. Cervical enamel and dentin continuous adaption of small and large bulk-filled restorations dropped significantly while the change was lower in layered restorations made of conventional restorative composite. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Restorations made with bulk-filled flowable composite behaved differently from layered ones using conventional resin composite, according to cavity size and loading.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate how the polymerization shrinkage forces of composite resins change with change in deflection. Five composites, SDR (Dentsply Caulk, Milford, DE, USA), EcuSphere-Shape (DMG, Hamburg, Germany), Tetric N-Ceram Bulk Fill (Ivoclar Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein), CLEARFIL AP-X (Kuraray Noritake Dental Inc., Sakazu, Kurashiki, Okayama, Japan), and Filtek Z350 XT (3M Dental Products, St Paul, MN, USA), were tested in this experiment. The polymerization shrinkage forces of the composites were measured using a custom-made tooth-deflection-mimicking device and software (R&B Inc, Daejon, Korea). In all measurements, six modes were tested: maximum-deflection, zero-deflection, and four deflection-controlled modes. For each deflection mode, the shrinkage forces were recorded continuously every 0.1 second for 180 seconds. Polymerization shrinkage and flexural modulus were also measured. Eight specimens of each material were allocated for each test. For each material, six groups of shrinkage force values were compared using one-way ANOVA and Tukey post hoc tests at a 95% confidence level. The polymerization shrinkage force of each material in each of the six deflection modes was analyzed with 95% confidence using one-way ANOVA and Tukey post hoc tests. The relationship between the force measured in the six deflection modes and the linear polymerization shrinkage and flexural modulus was analysed with 95% confidence using Pearson correlation analysis. For each material, the following held true: the shrinkage force was highest in zero-deflection mode, the force decreased as deflection increased, and the smallest force appeared in maximum-deflection mode (p<0.05). There was a high negative correlation between allowable deflection and shrinkage force in all materials.

Abstract
PURPOSE The study's purpose was to evaluate the 24-hour polymerization shrinkage of resin composite core materials. MATERIAL AND METHODS Eleven resin composite core material samples (n = 12) were evaluated using a non-contact imaging device with measurements obtained over 24 h. Shrinkage values were determined corresponding to proposed times involved with CAD/CAM same-day treatment and at 24 h. Shrinkage data was statistically compared using Friedman/Dunn's test for intragroup analysis and Kruskal Wallis/Dunn's test for intergroup analysis, all at a 95% level of confidence (α = 0.05). RESULTS Mean results identified a wide volumetric shrinkage range with considerable similarity overlap. Inconsistent shrinkage behavior was evident and all materials reached maximum values before 24 h. No significant difference was observed during proposed digital same day all ceramic crown procedures, but some differences were noted at 24 h. CONCLUSIONS Under this study's conditions results were material specific, at times inconsistent, with wide variation. Shrinkage consistently increased for all products and it is not known if the continued shrinkage magnitude may compromise the stability and fit of all-ceramic crowns at 24 h.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate the effect of rapid high-intensity light-curing on the marginal integrity of four bulk-fill composites, including two materials specifically designed for high-intensity curing. METHODS Class V cavities were prepared on buccal surfaces of intact human molars with simulated pulpal pressure, filled in a single increment and light-cured using a conventional (10 s @ 1,340 mW/cm2) or high-intensity (3 s @ 3,440 mW/cm2) protocol. The restorations were subjected to thermo-mechanical loading (TML) comprising 1,200,000 mechanical loading cycles and 3,000 thermocycles. Quantitative margin analysis was performed before and after TML using a scanning electron microscope, and the marginal integrity was expressed as percentage of continuous margin (PCM). RESULTS All PCM values measured before TML were statistically similar regardless of the material and curing protocol (p>0.05). A statistically significant effect of the curing protocol (p = 0.021) was identified only after TML for one material. PCM was significantly diminished by TML (p<0.001) for most combinations of material and curing protocol. The PCM values of the sculptable composites after TML were statistically similar regardless of the curing protocol (p>0.05). Compared to these values, significantly lower PCM after TML was identified for the flowable composites cured with the high-intensity protocol (p = 0.001-0.045). CONCLUSION In most cases, high-intensity and conventional curing generally led to similar marginal integrity. Although all of the investigated composites initially performed similarly well, the flowable composites light-cured using the high-intensity protocol showed a significantly inferior marginal integrity compared to the sculptable composites after loading. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Rapid high-intensity light-curing cannot be recommended for flowable bulk-fill composites since it may compromise the tooth-restoration interface.

Abstract
This ex vivo study aimed to compare the microtensile bond strength of fiber-reinforced and particulate filler composite to coronal and pulp chamber floor dentin using a self-etching adhesive system. Coronal dentin of 40 human molar teeth was exposed by cutting occlusal enamel with a low-speed saw. Teeth were then randomly divided into two groups (n = 20). The first group was left as is, while in the second group, pulp chamber floor dentin was exposed by trepanation. After placement of a self-etching adhesive system (G-aenial Bond, GC, Tokyo, Japan), groups were further divided into two sub-groups (n = 10) according to the type of composite: fiber-reinforced composite (EP, everX Posterior, GC, Tokyo, Japan) and particulate filler composite (GP, G-aenial Posterior, GC, Tokyo, Japan). Then, composite blocks were built up. Sticks (1.0 × 1.0 mm2) were obtained from each specimen by sectioning, then microtensile bond strength (μTBS) test was performed. Statistical analysis included one-way ANOVA test and Student's t-test (p < 0.05). μTBS values were 22.91 ± 14.66 and 24.44 ± 13.72 MPa on coronal dentin, 14.00 ± 5.83 and 12.10 ± 8.89 MPa on pulp chamber floor dentin for EP and GP, respectively. Coronal dentin yielded significantly higher μTBS than pulp chamber floor dentin (p < 0.05), independently from the tested composites.

Abstract
Post-treatment coronal hermetic seal of the root canal opening prevents the food or saliva which assist to achieve successful endodontic treatment. Gutta-percha is filled in the inner canal, that is, from cervical third to apical third. Gutta-percha does not provide the hermetic seal because it does not bound with dentine walls. Various new restorative materials have been developed in the last 6-7 decade but drawback related to the polymerization shrinkage of the composite resin remains a clinical problem. In general, dental composites having volumetric shrinkage of the material depends on its formulation and curing conditions. In this article, the effect of this polymerization shrinkage on the tooth structure has been studied.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to assess the operation time, shear bond strength, placement accuracy and wear resistance of 3 composite materials (Filtek Z350XT, Filtek Z350XT Flowable and SonicFill) that were used to make attachments for clear aligners. SETTINGS AND SAMPLE POPULATION Laboratory of Stomatology of Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. A total of 129 human mandibular premolars were collected, 69 of which were assigned to 3 groups (A1, B1 and C1). The remaining 60 teeth were divided into 3 groups (A2, B2 and C2). METHODS Z350XT composite resin was used in groups A1 and A2 to bond the attachments. Z350XT Flowable composite resin was used in groups B1 and B2. SonicFill composite resin was used in groups C1 and C2. The operation time, shear bond strength, the placement accuracy and wear volume loss of 3 composite materials were evaluated. RESULTS The operation time of Z350XT Flowable and SonicFill was shorter than Z350XT (P < .05). The shear bond strength of SonicFill was higher than Z350XT and Z350XT Flowable (P < .05). The SEM showed that the bonding interface of Z350XT and SonicFill was compact. The 3D deviation and volumetric change in the 3D designed attachments and the attachments after actual bonding of Z350XT Flowable were greater than that of Z350XT and SonicFill (P < .05). The wear volume loss of SonicFill and Z350XT was less than that of Z350XT Flowable (P < .05). CONCLUSION SonicFill seems to represent a suitable material for producing attachments, which optimized the property combination.

Abstract
Context: Consumption of acidic beverages has been reported to alter the physical and esthetic properties of resin composites, which in turn can affect clinical success. Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of acidic beverages on surface roughness and color stability of Filtek™ Bulk-Fill posterior restorative composite in comparison with Filtek P60 posterior restorative composite. Settings and Design: Ninety composite discs were used for surface change analysis and another ninety were used for color change analysis. Materials and Methods: Ninety Filtek P60 and Filtek Bulk-Fill composite discs were fabricated and divided into three subgroups according to the solutions – artificial saliva (control group), orange juice, and Coca-Cola® (test groups). The samples were immersed in each beverage for 10 min each day for 56 days. To measure the surface roughness, a profilometer was used, and the surface was qualitatively analyzed using a scanning electron microscope. A reflectance spectrophotometer was used for assessing the color change. Statistical Analysis Used: Two-way analysis of variance was used to compare the surface alteration and color change values between the two composite groups and their respective three subgroups. Tukey's multiple post hoc test was performed for pair-wise comparison. Results: Filtek P60 had exhibited higher color change than Filtek Bulk-Fill in all immersion solutions. Coca-Cola resulted in highest staining in both the composites. Conclusions: The surface roughness and color change of both composites increased significantly in acidic beverages and more in Coca-Cola. Bulk-fill exhibited better surface quality and color stability than P60.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this review is to present a synopsis of the existing clinical and in vitro evidence regarding placement of direct class II restorations with dental composites of varying viscosities, focusing on the marginal integrity achievable. OVERVIEW The literature on class II composites placed with various techniques was searched through PubMed, Scopus, and the citations of identified articles, focusing on aspects related to adaptation and clinical performance. Studies comparing layering of conventional composite to layering with a flowable liner, including the "snow plow technique," use of warmed composite, flowable bulk-fill liners with a conventional composite capping layer, and bulk-fill restorative in a single or incremental fill (including placement with sonic energy and dual-curing) CONCLUSIONS: In vitro and clinical evidence does not support any one specific method or material type for achieving optimal performance when restoring class II cavity preparations with current dental composites. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Although there are many available placement methods and types of composite materials on the market for use in class II restorations, the reasonable success presented in the clinical and laboratory literature for the various approaches suggests that the most important factor for achieving success is likely careful and proper placement and light-curing technique, independent of the approach.

Abstract
The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the hardness and shrinkage stress (SS) of six bulk-fill resin composites. To evaluate microhardness (MH), ten 6 mm specimens were prepared using a metal mold for each selected bulk-fill resin composite and irradiated from the top side for 40 s using an LED light. After 24 h of storage, Vickers MH was evaluated on the upper, lower and lateral sides of the specimens. SS evaluation was then performed with a universal machine, which evaluated the contraction force generated by a bulk-fill composite specimen placed between two metal cylinders during and after light curing. The results were evaluated with a one-way ANOVA test with a post-hoc Bonferroni test and linear regression analysis (p < 0.05). All materials showed a significant MH decrease between the top and bottom surfaces. However, the bulk-fill materials tested performed differently when considering lateral depth progression. ANOVA tests for SS evaluation showed that both SDR and Venus Bulk Fill had significantly lower stress during irradiation than other tested materials. Further, MH decrease became significantly lower from the top surface at different depths in each tested group. Among the different resins, Venus Bulk Fill and SDR showed not only inferior hardness, but also a significant reduction in SS.

Abstract
Statement of the Problem: Bulk fill composites have been introduced over the recent years in order to accelerate the process of tooth restoration
by inserting composite in bulk up to 4mm thickness. Occlusal loading may influence the gingival microleakage of this composite. Purpose: This in vitro study aims to evaluate the effect of occlusal loading on the gingival microleakage of bulk fill composites compared with a conventional composite. Materials and Method: In this experimental study, box only class II cavities with gingival margins placed 1mm below the cemento-enamel junction were prepared
on the mesial and distal surfaces of 36 maxillary premolars (72 cavities). The samples were divided into three groups and restored as follows:
Group 1 (Tetric N-Ceram, incremental filling), Group 2 (X-tra fill, bulk filling), Group 3 (Tetric N-Ceram Bulk Fill, bulk filling).
All restorations were thermocycled for 2000 cycles (5-50̊C) and then half of the samples were subjected to 200,000 cycles of loading.
All the specimens were immersed in 0.5% basic fuchsin for 48 hours, then, sectioned, and evaluated for microleakage with a stereomicroscope.
Data were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U-tests. p< 0.05 was considered significant. Results: There were no significant differences among the gingival microleakage of three composites in both unloaded and loaded groups. In addition,
no statistically significant difference was found between the microleakage of unloaded and loaded groups in all materials. Conclusion: Occlusal loading did not affect the gingival microleakage of bulk fill composites, and the microleakage of class II cavities restored
with the bulk filling technique was similar to that of restored with the incremental technique.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of the present study was to compare bulk-filled composite resins with conventional composites in terms of cuspal movement and micro-leakage scores. METHODS Ninety-six maxillary premolar teeth with mesial-occclusal-distal cavities were allocated to four groups. Twelve teeth in each group was treated etch-and-rinse, self-etch or selective-etch (N.=8) protocols with respective adhesive system. Bucco-palatal cusp measurements were performed before and after preparation, and 180s after curing and then subjected to 5000 thermocyclws. After immersed in 0.2% basic fuchsin dye for 24h, cervical micro-leakage was evaluated. The data was analyzed by One-way ANOVA and post-hoc Tukey's honest Test (P<0.05). RESULTS All groups and bonding protocols revealed no significant differences in total cuspal deflection measurement and micro-leakage scores. After preparation, a significant increase was found in bucco-palatal width of the teeth compared to baseline (P=0.002). There were no significant relationship among composite resins and adhesives (P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS Cuspal relief after cavity preparation should be taken into account when evaluating deflection.

Abstract
SUMMARYThis study compared the viscoelastic properties of restorative and flowable bulk-fill resin-based composites (RBCs) with their conventional counterparts and evaluated the impact of aqueous solutions on viscoelastic properties. The materials examined included three conventional RBCs (Filtek Z350, Tetric N Ceram, and Beautifil II), three restorative bulk-fill RBCs (Filtek Bulk-Fill Restorative, Tetric N Ceram Bulk-Fill, and Beautifil Bulk-Fill Restorative) in addition to three flowable bulk-fill RBCs (Filtek Bulk-Fill Flowable, Tetric N Flow Bulk-Fill, and Beautifil Bulk-Fill Flowable). Beam-shaped specimens (12×2×2 mm) were fabricated using customized stainless-steel molds, finished, and measured. The specimens were randomly divided into four groups and conditioned in air (control), artificial saliva, 0.02 N citric acid, and 50% ethanol-water solution for seven days at 37°C. They were then subjected to dynamic mechanical analysis (n = 10) in flexure mode at 37°C with a frequency of 0.1 to 10 Hz. Storage modulus, loss modulus, and loss tangent data were subjected to statistical analysis using one-way analysis of variance/Tukey post hoc test at a significance level of α = 0.05. Viscoelastic properties of the RBCs were found to be product and conditioning medium dependent. For most RBCs, exposure to aqueous solutions, particularly an ethanol-water solution, degraded viscoelastic properties. With the exception of Filtek Bulk-Fill Restorative, bulk-fill restorative and flowable RBCs generally had significantly lower storage and loss modulus than their conventional counterparts regardless of conditioning medium. Conventional RBCs are thus favored over their bulk-fill counterparts, particularly for high-stress-bearing areas.

SUMMARY
The objectives of the study were to compare the flexural modulus and strength of restorative and flowable bulk-fill resin-based composites (RBCs) to their conventional counterparts and to determine the effects of conditioning environment on their flexural properties. The materials evaluated included three conventional RBCs (Filtek Z350, Tetric N Ceram, and Beautifil II), three restorative bulk-fill RBCs (Filtek Bulk-Fill Restorative, Tetric N Ceram Bulk-Fill, and Beautifil Bulk-fill Restorative), as well as three flowable bulk-fill RBCs (Filtek Bulk-Fill Flowable, Tetric N Flow Bulk-Fill, and Beautifil Bulk-Fill Flowable). Specimens were fabricated using customized stainless-steel molds, finished, measured, and randomly divided into four groups. The various RBCs were conditioned in the following mediums (n=10) for seven days at 37°C: air, artificial saliva (SAGF), 0.02 N citric acid, and 50% ethanol-water solution. After conditioning, the specimens were rinsed, blotted dry, measured, and subjected to flexural testing using a universal testing machine. Data were subjected to statistical analysis using analysis of variance and the Tukey test at a significance level of α = 0.05. Significant differences in flexural properties were observed between materials and conditioning mediums. Bulk-fill restorative RBCs exhibited higher flexural modulus than their bulk-fill flowable and conventional counterparts. With the exception of Filtek Bulk-Fill Flowable, bulk-fill flowable RBCs had significantly higher flexural strength than bulk-fill restorative and conventional RBCs. Flexural properties were highest when RBCs were conditioned in air and generally the lowest after exposure to ethanol.

New dual-cure bulk-fill composites show promise for uniform degree of conversion and microhardness throughout the entire depth of direct restorations.
SUMMARY
Objective:
The aim of this study was to evaluate the degree of conversion (DC) through micro-Raman spectroscopy and surface microhardness in Vickers hardness (VHN) of three new dual-cure bulk-fill resin-based composites (RBCs) compared with light-cure bulk-fill and incremental RBCs at two clinically relevant depths and for two light irradiation times.
Methods:
Three commercially available restorative dual-cure bulk-fill RBCs (BulkEZ, HyperFIL, and Injectafil) were evaluated and compared with three light-cure RBCs (Filtek Bulk Fill Flowable, Filtek One Bulk Fill, and incremental Filtek Z250) as controls. Specimens were prepared in two different depths (0.5 mm and 5 mm) and were light irradiated for 20 seconds or 40 seconds. Self-cure was also evaluated for the three dual-cure bulk-fill RBCs. Micro-Raman spectroscopic measurements and VHN tests (n=5) were made after 24 hours of dry storage in the dark at room temperature for all test conditions. Data were analyzed using one-way and two-way analyses of variance (α=0.05).
Results:
All tested RBCs showed significantly higher DC and VHN values at 0.5-mm depth than at 5-mm depth, with the exception of BulkEZ, which showed similar DC and VHN values at two depths. The three dual-cure bulk-fill RBCs showed significantly higher DC than the three light-cure RBCs under the same curing condition. The three dual-cure RBCs showed much smaller differences in VHN values between the two depths than the three light-cure RBCs. Twenty seconds and 40 seconds of light irradiation did not generate significant difference in DC and VHN values for the three dual-cure bulk-fill RBCs at either depth or for the three light-cure RBCs at the 0.5-mm depth; however, 40 seconds of light irradiation generated significantly higher DC and VHN values for One Bulk Fill and Z250 at the 5-mm depth compared with 20 seconds of light irradiation.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Gap formation of composite resin restorations is a serious shortcoming in clinical practice. Polymerization shrinkage stress exceeds the tooth-restoration bond strength, and it causes bacterial infiltration within gaps between cavity walls and the restorative material. Thus, an intermediate liner application with a low elastic modulus has been advised to minimize polymerization shrinkage as well as gap formation. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this in vitro study was to assess gap formation volume in premolars restored with different bulk-fill composites, with and without a resin-modified glass-ionomer cement (RMGIC) liner, using x-ray micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). METHODOLOGY Sixty extracted human maxillary premolars were divided into six groups according to bucco-palatal dimensions (n=10). Standardized Class II mesio-occluso-distal cavities were prepared. G-Premio Bond (GC Corp., Japan) was applied in the selective-etch mode. Teeth were restored with high-viscosity (Filtek Bulk Fill, 3M ESPE, USA)-FB, sonic-activated (SonicFill 2, Kerr, USA)-SF and low viscosity (Estelite Bulk Fill Flow, Tokuyama, Japan)-EB bulk-fill composites, with and without a liner (Ionoseal, Voco GmbH, Germany)-L. The specimens were subjected to 10,000 thermocycles (5-55°C) and 50,000 simulated chewing cycles (100 N). Gap formation based on the volume of black spaces at the tooth-restoration interface was quantified in mm3 using micro-computed tomography (SkyScan, Belgium), and analyses were performed. Data were analyzed using repeated-measures ANOVA and the Bonferroni correction test (p < 0.05). RESULTS The gap volume of all tested bulk-fill composites demonstrated that Group SF (1.581±0.773) had significantly higher values than Group EB (0.717±0.679). Regarding the use of a liner, a significant reduction in gap formation volume was observed only in Group SFL (0.927±0.630) compared with Group SF (1.581±0.773). CONCLUSION It can be concluded that different types of bulk-fill composite resins affected gap formation volume. Low-viscosity bulk-fill composites exhibited better adaptation to cavity walls and less gap formation than did sonic-activated bulk-fill composites. The use of an RMGIC liner produced a significant reduction in gap formation volume for sonic-activated bulk-fill composites.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate the 24-month clinical performance of three different bulk-fill restorative resin materials in class II restorations. Forty patients with at least three approximal lesions in premolar and molar teeth participated in the study. A total of 120 class II cavities were restored using Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill (n=40), SureFil SDR flow + Ceram.X mono (n=40), and everX Posterior + G-aenial Posterior (n=40) with their respective adhesives according to the manufacturers' instructions. All restorations were placed by one operator. The restorations were evaluated at baseline and at six, 12, 18, and 24 months using modified US Public Health Service criteria by one examiner. The restoration groups for each category were compared using the Pearson chi-square test, while the Cochran Q-test was used to compare the changes across different time points within each restorative material (p<0.05). At the end of 24 months, 94 restorations were evaluated in 33 patients, with a recall rate of 82.5%. There were no statistically significant differences between the groups in terms of retention (p>0.05). At the 24-month recall, two restorations from the SureFil SDR flow + Ceram.X mono group and four from the everX Posterior + G-aenial Posterior group showed slight marginal discoloration and were rated as bravo. No marginal discoloration was observed in any of the Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill restorations. Six restorations from the Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill group, six from the SureFil SDR flow + Ceram.X mono group, and 12 from the everX Posterior + G-aenial Posterior group received bravo scores in terms of marginal adaptation. No difference was found among the three groups for any of the evaluation criteria tested (p>0.05). There were statistically significant differences between the baseline and 24-month recall in the everX Posterior + G-aenial Posterior group in terms of marginal discoloration (p<0.05). For marginal adaptation, a significant difference was observed between baseline and 24 months for all the restorative resins (p<0.05). All the restorative resins tested performed similarly and showed acceptable clinical performance during the 24-month evaluation.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to compare the restorative time for filling cavities in posterior teeth using bulk-fill and conventional resin composites through a systematic review and meta-analysis. A search for clinical trials and laboratory studies was performed in PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, the Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature database, the Brazilian Library in Dentistry, Cochrane Library, Clinical Trials, and ReBEC (Registro Brasileiro de Ensaios Clínicos) databases without publication year or language restriction. Two reviewers identified eligible studies according to the inclusion criteria: bulk-fill compared to conventional resin in class I or II, and the restorative time as an outcome. A meta-analysis of the restorative time mean difference between composites was performed (inverse variance method, random effects model; Z-test, P ≤ .05). From the 662 eligible studies, 133 were selected for full-text analysis; three were included in the systematic review and in the meta-analysis. Overall, the restorative time was lower when bulk-fill was used (P = .0007, Z = 3.37), as the subgroup full-body bulk-fill (P < .00001, Z = 21.00). There was no difference in restorative time between flowable bulk-fill and conventional resins (P = .08, Z = 1.76). Moderate-to-substantial heterogeneity was detected. Full-body bulk-fill composites decrease the restorative time in posterior teeth compared to conventional resins. Full-body bulk-fill resins require a shorter restorative time to perform restorations in posterior teeth than conventional resins, but the same is not valid for flowable bulk-fill resin composites.

Abstract
The objectives of this double-blind randomized clinical trial were to compare (a) the clinical times and (b) the occurrence and severity of postoperative sensitivity, of posterior restoration that used a universal adhesive, in a self-etch or selective enamel-etching technique, along with incremental or bulk-fill composites (presented in syringes or capsules). A total of 295 posterior restorations were placed according to the following groups: SETB - self-etch/bulk-fill in syringe; SETC - self-etch/bulk-fill in capsules; SETI - self-etch/incremental; SEEB - selective enamel-etching/bulk-fill in syringe; SEEC - selective enamel-etching/bulk-fill in capsules; and SEEI - selective enamel-etching/incremental. Clinical time was assessed by a reason (s/mm3) between the total volume of resin inserted and the total time required to perform the restorations. Postoperative sensitivity was evaluated using two scales (Numeric Rating Scale and Visual Analogue Scale). Mean clinical time results, analyzed by Wald's Chi-square, showed significant statistical differences among all groups (p<0.001), indicating that the restorative strategy affected the time required for the restoration. A generalized estimating equation model statistical analysis, performed to compare postoperative sensitivity, showed that neither the restorative technique, the adhesive strategy nor the presentation mode of the bulk-fill composite affected the overall risk of postoperative sensitivity (4.06 [2.22-6.81]). The use of bulk-fill composite, presented in capsules or syringes, is less time consuming and does not increase the risk or intensity of postoperative sensitivity relative to the traditional incremental technique.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The objective of this study was to perform a meta-analysis of clinical and laboratory studies to compare the performance of bulk-fill and conventional composite resins in terms of polymerization shrinkage, polymerization stress, cusp deflection, marginal quality, degree of conversion, microhardness, flexural strength, fracture strength and clinical performance. DATA One hundred three articles were included in this study, and the Peto method was used to compare the bulk-fill and conventional composites using the RevMan software. SOURCES Searches were performed in the PubMed and Scopus databases. STUDY SELECTION Laboratory studies and randomized clinical trials comparing one of the previous detailed outcomes between bulk-fill and control composites were included. CONCLUSIONS The bulk-fill composite resins showed less shrinkage, polymerization stress, cusp deflection and microhardness than conventional composites, while both materials presented a similar marginal quality, flexural strength and fracture strength. Also, bulk-fill materials with regular viscosity showed similar shrinkage. The conversion of bulk-fill materials with flowable consistency were similar to conventional composite resins with a thickness of up to 2mm and greater than conventional composites with a thickness greater than 2mm. Despite these in vitro differences, the clinical performance of bulk-fill and conventional composite resins was similar in randomized clinical trials, with one to ten years of follow up. In conclusion, the bulk-fill materials show better or similar performance to the conventional materials in clinical trials and laboratory studies in terms of volumetric shrinkage, polymerization stress, cusps deflection and marginal quality, with the only exception being the lower level of microhardness observed for bulk-fill composites with thickness up to 2mm.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate volumetric polymerization shrinkage (VS), using swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT), of bulk-fill composites with different light-curing strategies; immediately after light-irradiation and after 24 h, and to evaluate their regional ultimate tensile strength (UTS) at different curing depths. The immediate VS after photo-polymerization decreased when the curing light-curing time was reduced from 20 to 10 to 5 s. On the other hand, their VS values after 24 h significantly increased due to the post-cure polymerization, resulting in similar VS values at all the light-curing times. Five seconds light-curing decreased the regional UTS of resin composites after the 24 h period compared with the 10 and 20 s light-curing regimes; therefore, the remarkable progress of post-cure polymerization after light-curing for a short time would not lead to an improvement in the mechanical properties of resin composites. The influence of the light-curing time on the curing depth was dependent upon the bulk-fill composite material.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to compare the linear polymerization shrinkage of different restorative resin-based composites (RBCs) using fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors. Five RBCs were evaluated: Zirconfill® (ZFL); Aura Bulk-Fill (ABF); Tetric® N-Ceram Bulk-Fill (TBF); FiltekTM Bulk-Fill (FBF); and Admira Fusion-Ormocer® (ADF). Ten samples per resin were produced in standardized custom-made half-gutter silicone molds. Two optical FBG sensors were used to assess temperature and polymerization shrinkage. Light curing was performed for 40 s and polymerization shrinkage was evaluated at 5, 10, 40, 60, 150, and 300 s. Statistical analysis was accomplished for normal distribution (Shapiro-Wilk, p > 0.05). Two-way repeated measures ANOVA with Greenhouse-Geisser correction followed by Bonferroni′s post-hoc test was used to analyze the linear shrinkage data (p < 0.05). ZFL showed the highest linear shrinkage and ADF the lowest. Shrinkage increased for all RBCs until 300 s, where significant differences were found between ADF and all other resins (p < 0.05). Among bulk-fill RBCs, TBF showed the lowest shrinkage value, but not statistically different from FBF. The ADF presented lower linear shrinkage than all other RBCs, and restorative bulk-fill composites exhibited an intermediate behavior.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Delivering sufficient intensity output of curing lights is mandatory to ensure optimum cure and clinical success of bulk-fill resin composite restorations and to avoid undesirable clinical outcomes. AIM: To evaluate the effectiveness of using light amplified high intensity LED curing on the clinical performance and marginal sealing of posterior bulk-fill resin composite restorations. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study was designed as a randomised, controlled, double-blind, Unicenter, parallel, two arms, superiority trial with 1:1 allocation ratio. Adult patients who required posterior tooth-coloured restorations were asked to participate in this trial. All participants signed written informed consent after being completely aware of the settings of the study. The participants who fulfilled the eligibility criteria were divided into two groups according to the type of light curing mode used. Adhesive compound proximal cavities were prepared. All restorative materials were applied according to the respective manufacturer’s instructions. Assessments of the restorations were done at baseline (one week after placement of the restoration), after 6 months and after 12 months using the modified US Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria. For quantitative assessment of the marginal sealing, resin replicas were analysed using scanning electron microscopy. Statistical analysis was done using Chi-square, Mann Whitney, independent t-test and dependent t-tests. RESULTS: There were no statistical differences between the two groups for the tested clinical parameters along the study periods. For marginal analysis, there were no statistical differences between the intervention and control group at baseline and six months (p-value = 0.347 and 0.516) respectively. At 12 months the control group showed statistically significant higher percentages (p-value = 0.031). CONCLUSION: Light amplified high-intensity curing units have clinical performance comparable with the conventional LED.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study visualized in real-time the gap forming of bulk-fill resin composites during polymerization using optical coherence tomography (OCT). METHODS Light-cured bulk-fill resin composites; Tetric N-ceram Bulk Fill (TNB), SonicFill (SNF), Surefil SDR (SDR), dual-cured bulk-fill resin composite Bulk EZ (BEZ), and light-cured core resin composite Clearfil Photo Core (CPC) were investigated. Swept-source OCT real-time cross-sectional monitoring was obtained during resin composite placement and curing procedure. Gap formation was observed in bonded cylindrical resin composite molds (4-mm depth, 3-mm diameter) and free shrinkage volume was observed at the top and bottom of a tube with similar dimensions (n=10). OCT 3D data were analyzed to calculate sealing floor area percentage (SFA%) and volumetric shrinkage in bonded tube (VS%). Data were analyzed by ANOVA at significance level of 0.05. The bottom-top degree of conversion ratio (DC%-R) through 4-mm depth was measured using the XploRA Plus micro-Raman spectroscopy. RESULTS BEZ showed no gap formation at the cavity floor in any specimens while SNF showed the highest gap formation; the statistical order in terms of SFA% was BEZ (100±0)>TNB (84.97±2.98)>CPC (52.13±8.23)=SDR (45.97±9.21)>SNF (16.23±6.00) (p<0.05). On the other hand, total VS% was statistically ordered as BEZ (3.40±0.14)>SDR (3.22±0.09)>TNB (1.82±0.11)>SNF (1.65±0.04)=CPC (1.56±0.04) (p<0.05). Unlike BEZ, the light-cured resin composites showed larger shrinkage at specimen bottom than top. TNB showed the lowest DC%-R followed by SNF (p<0.05). SIGNIFICANCE Light-cured bulk-fill resin composites showed various degrees of gap formation and shrinkage at 4-mm deep cavity. The dual-cured bulk-filled resin composite showed no decrease of degree of conversion through the depth and the highest cavity adaptation despite its tendency for higher volumetric shrinkage.

Abstract
Bulk-fill composites were introduced in dentistry to accelerate clinical procedures while providing adequate outcomes. Concerns regarding the use of bigger composite increments rely on the polymerization shrinkage and shrinkage stress, which may generate gaps on the adhesive interface and result in a reduced success rate. Objective: To evaluate the polymerization shrinkage stress of different bulk-fill resin composites and their elastic modulus. Materials and Methods: Fourteen specimens were made for each of the nine different resin composites (seven with 12 mm3 and seven with 24 mm3): Surefill SDR flow (SDR), X-tra Base (XB), Filtek Bulk Fill Flowable (FBF), Filtek Z350XT Flow (Z3F); Tetric Evo Ceram Bulk Fill (TBF), X-tra Fil (XF), Filtek Bulk Fill (FBP), Admira Xtra Fusion (ADM) and Filtek Z350 XT (Z3XT). Linear shrinkage stress was evaluated for 300 s with the aid of a linear shrinkage device adapted to a Universal Testing Machine. For each composite group, seven additional specimens (2x2x25 mm) were made and Young's modulus was evaluated with a 3-point bending device adapted in a Universal Testing Machine with 0.5 mm/min crosshead speed and 50 KgF loading cell. Results: For 12 mm3 specimens, three-way ANOVA showed that only SDR and TBF generated lower stress after 20 s. Considering 300 s, TBF, SDR, and XF generated the lowest stress, followed by ADM, FBP, XB, and FBF, which were similar to Z3XT. Z3F generated the highest stress values for all time points. Considering 24 mm3 specimens after 20 s, all bulk fill composites generated lower stress than Z3XT, except XB. After 300 s, SDR, FBP, and ADM generated the lowest stress, followed by TBF and XF. For elastic modulus, one-way ANOVA showed that FBF, SDR, Z3F, and ADM presented the lowest values, followed by XB and TBF. FBP, Z3XT, and XF presented the highest elastic modulus among the evaluated composites. Conclusions: Bulk-fill resin composites presented equal to lower shrinkage stress generation when compared to conventional composites, especially when bigger increments were evaluated. Bulk-fill composites showed a wide range of elastic modulus values, but usually similar to “regular” composites.

Abstract
Context: The initial bond strength and potential durability of an adhesive restoration are significantly affected by regional variations in dentin composition. Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of dentin location and thermomechanical cyclic loading on microtensile bond strength of bulk-fill composite resin to coronal dentin. Materials and Methods: Disto-occlusal cavity preparations were done on 60 extracted human mandibular molars with pulpal floor depth of 1.5 and 3.5 mm for superficial and deep dentin and 1.5 mm axial wall depth and are restored with bulk-fill restorative composite. Bond strength evaluation was done using universal testing machine, and mode of bond failure was observed under scanning electron microscope. Statistical Analysis: Statistical analyses were done using ANOVA and Tukey's multiple post hoc test. For comparison of failure mode, Mann–Whitney U-test was used. Results: Superficial dentin has shown higher bond strength compared to deep dentin and gingival wall dentin (P = 0.001). The bond strength values decreased with the thermomechanical cycling (P = 0.001). Deep dentin and gingival dentin have exhibited more of adhesive failures. Conclusion: Bond strength of bulk-fill composite was negatively influenced by the depth of dentin and thermomechanical loading.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate scientific evidence regarding depth of cure of bulk-fill resin composites (BFRCs) and related factors. MATERIAL AND METHODS PubMed/Medline, Embase, Scopus, and ISI Web of Science databases were accessed from October 2016 to May 2017. Investigations published in English language, assessing depth of cure of BFRCs by microhardness test and/or degree of conversion (DC) were included. Studies using exclusively ISO 4049, employing specimens deepness less than 4 mm, as well as those not reporting exposure time and/or irradiance from light curing units (LCUs) were excluded. RESULTS In total, 742 studies were found from which 33 were included. From 21 studies evaluating BFRCs microhardness, 10 showed acceptable bottom/top ratios (≥0.8) for all tested materials. However, material-dependent results and non-satisfactory bottom/top microhardness ratios (<0.8) were reported in 9 and 2 investigations, respectively. From 19 studies that assessed DC, 11 showed acceptable results (≥50%) for all tested BFRCs, while 8 studies reported material-dependent outcomes. Overall, irradiance from LCUs ranged from 650 to 1330 mW/cm2 and exposure time from 5 to 60 seconds. Favorable depth of cure results were observed with the use of LCUs emitting irradiance ≥1000 mW/cm2 and exposure times ≥20 seconds. CONCLUSIONS High depth of cure rates by BFRCs, depends on some factors as material, irradiance and exposure time. Polywave LCUs were useful but not essential on polymerizing alternative photoinitiator-containing BFRC. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE LED curing devices (polywave or monowave) displaying an irradiance ≥1000 mW/cm2 and 20 seconds of exposure time are imperative to accomplish successful polymerization of most BFRCs.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of radiant exposure on the chemical and physical properties of four commercial dental resin composites. The four dental resin composites used were Kalore, Admira, Tetric N-Ceram Bulk Fill, and Filtek Z350 XT. The composites were subjected to three curing protocols: 1000 mW/cm2 for 5 s, 1000 mW/cm2 for 10 s, and 400 mW/cm2 for 25 s. The flexural strength, elastic modulus, water sorption, water solubility, degree of conversion, and polymerization shrinkage were evaluated. The results were analyzed by means of ANOVA and Tukey tests. For Admira and Kalore, significant differences between light exposure protocols were observed for the elastic modulus (p < 0.001), which was higher when a higher amount of radiant exposure was used. For Filtek Z350, differences were only observed for the degree of conversion (p < 0.001), and a higher amount of radiant exposure allowed us to obtain higher values. The Tetric N-Ceram Bulk Fill analysis showed significant differences for the elastic modulus and water sorption (p < 0.001), and specimens that had been subject to a radiant exposure of 10 J/cm2 showed a higher elastic modulus. In most cases, the physical and mechanical properties analyzed were not affected by different radiant exposure values. Other resin-based composite (RBC) characteristics seem to have a greater influence on material properties.

Abstract
PURPOSE: To compare the microtensile bond strengths of incremental and bulk-fill techniques under different C-factor and compliance conditions. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Extracted human third molars were divided into three experimental groups. For group I, Class I cavities were prepared. For group II, MOD cavities of the same size were prepared. For group III, the cavities were prepared the same way as group II only with high compliance cavity walls. The cavity wall compliance of the specimens was evaluated. Each of these groups was divided into four subgroups. The teeth were restored using two different materials: TB (Tetric N-Ceram Bulk Fill; Ivoclar Vivadent, Hanau, Germany) and VB (Venus Bulk Fill; Heraeus Kulzer, Armonk, NY, USA), and two methods, either an incremental or bulk-fill technique. Then, the microtensile bond strengths (μ-TBSs) were measured and compared. The polymerization stresses of the composites were calculated using a custom-made device. The results were statistically analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test and Weibull analysis. RESULTS: In group I, the μ-TBS obtained using the incremental technique was significantly higher than that obtained by the bulk-fill technique ( p<0.05). In contrast, no difference of the μ-TBS value was observed between the two techniques in groups II and III. The μ-TBS value of group I was significantly lower than those of groups II and III ( p<0.05). No statistical difference in the μ-TBS was observed when the cavities were filled with either TB or VB ( p>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The incremental technique showed higher bond strength than did the bulk-fill technique in high C-factor cavities. However, no difference was found between the two techniques in the low C-factor cavities. The bond strength in the high C-factor cavities was significantly lower than that of the low C-factor cavities.
