Abstract
Kidney stones represent a significant global health challenge, with dietary habits playing a crucial role in their formation. This study investigates the association between dietary fatty acid intake-specifically saturated (SFA), monounsaturated (MUFA), and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA)-and the prevalence of kidney stones in a U.S. adult population, aiming to inform potential dietary prevention strategies. Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning 2007-2018 were analyzed, including 30,716 participants. Logistic regression models were used to assess the relationship between fatty acid intake and kidney stones prevalence, adjusting for demographic and health-related covariates such as age, sex, BMI, diabetes status, physical activity, and other dietary factors. Additional analyses were conducted to explore the effects of fatty acid intake as a percentage of total energy and the impact of various fatty acid ratios. Higher intakes of SFA, MUFA, and PUFA were associated with increased odds of kidney stones prevalence. Specifically, each 10 g/day increase in SFA, MUFA, and PUFA intake was linked to a 22% [OR = 1.22, 95% CI: 1.11-1.34, p = 0.002], 10% [OR = 1.10, 95% CI: 1.00-1.22, p = 0.052] and 21% [OR = 1.21, 95% CI: 1.10-1.33, p = 0.001] higher odds of kidney stones, respectively. These associations were generally consistent across various subgroups. Additional analyses examining fatty acid intake as a percentage of total energy and various fatty acid ratios yielded compatible findings. The findings suggest a modest association between higher dietary fatty acid intake and increased odds of kidney stones prevalence. While the observed odds increases were relatively small, these results highlight the importance of considering dietary fatty acid types in kidney stones prevention strategies. Future research is needed to further elucidate the underlying mechanisms and to refine dietary recommendations.

Abstract
Alcoholic beverages are widely consumed worldwide, especially by young adults. Their excessive consumption is associated with numerous health, social and financial damages. The level of knowledge of young adults about the health effects of consuming alcoholic beverages is low, and research in this area is conducted on small, unrepresentative groups. This cross-sectional study aimed to assess the prevalence of alcoholic beverage consumption and the level of knowledge about the impact of ethyl alcohol on health in a group of people aged 18−35. The survey results indicate that the majority of respondents regularly consume alcoholic beverages (94.6%), and they are at a low risk of excessive consumption (p < 0.0001). The most frequently chosen alcoholic beverage in the studied group was beer, and the least chosen one was vodka. The main motive for reaching for alcoholic beverages was the desire to improve mood. Respondents did not indicate significant changes in alcohol consumption during the COVID-19 pandemic, but participants in the high-risk group more often indicated an increase in alcohol consumption (p = 0.0025). The analysis of the level of knowledge showed that the participants in the study had an average or low level of knowledge about the effects of ethanol on health, with no significant relationships between the study groups. The obtained results indicate a strong need for the continuous education of young people on the effects of the excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages on the body, with particular emphasis on the consequences of using alcohol as a mood-enhancing agent.

Abstract
Background and Aims Kidney stone disease is a crystal concretion formed usually within the kidneys. The worldwide prevalence of kidney stones could be affected by numerous differences in socioeconomic, and environmental factors. The purpose of this study is to investigate kidney stones among Iranian adults aged between 35 and 70 years and the prevalence and evaluation of socioeconomic inequalities. Methods In this, a cohort-based cross-sectional study was carried out among 20,427 participants of ArNCDs aged 35 and 70 years old. Kidney stone was defined as a dependent (and binary) variable while demographic and socioeconomic factors were considered independent variables. Multivariable logistic regression was used to identify the key socioeconomic factors affecting kidney stone prevalence in Ardabil. Results The overall prevalence of kidney stones was 17.6 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 16.1-19.2) out of which 21.53% and 14.36% pertained to men and women and 14.18% and 23.17% pertained to the poorest and richest groups, respectively. There was a significant difference in the prevalence of kidney stones between men and women in terms of age, marital status, education level, chronic disease, body mass index, and socioeconomic status (<0.001). The prevalence of kidney stones had a positive correlation with age (1.7, 95% [CI]: 1.42-2.04) and socioeconomic status (1.5, 95% [CI]: 1.34-1.69), where the odds of kidney stones increased significantly by increasing age and socioeconomic status. Moreover, the kidney stone concentration index showed a pro-rich distribution wherein it was more common among wealthy people (higher socioeconomic status) 0.062 (95% [CI]: 0.051-0.072). Conclusion The results of this study showed that there is significant inequality in the prevalence of kidney stones, where it was more common among the richest people. In addition, being men and old age are significantly related to kidney stones, so policymakers and physicians should consider these factors.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Eating habits, regular fluid intake, lifestyle and body composition are a primary point of research. The research focused on urolithiasis approaching potential danger, trying to interpret risk factors responsible for urolithiasis and disease recurrence. METHODS Research file contains 166 patients suffering from urolithiasis, 87 (52.4%) males and 79 (47.6%) females, and 172 healthy subjects from control group. All data was accessed using fully anonymous and confidential questionnaires, then evaluated in the statistical GNU PSPP 1.4 software. RESULTS More than 3/4 patients have a BMI higher than 24.9 and almost 40% of subjects have obesity class I, II, or III. Patients have higher BMI than subjects (d = 1.285; p < 0.001), and females have significantly higher BMI than males (d = 0.385; p = 0.007). Female patients have higher BMI than Slovak healthy females (p < 0.001; MD = 4.581; CI: 3.24-5.93). Patients have a lower daily water intake than subjects (φc = 0.157; p = 0.04) and more than 2/3 of patients have insufficient water intake. Sedentary employment prevails markedly in patients than in subjects. Patients are much less physically active than subjects (φc = 0.633; p < 0.001) and the difference is rising with increasing age of patients (ρ = - 0.232; p = 0.003). Low physical and working activity are characteristic for patients in this study. Patients smoke more often in comparison to subjects (φc = 0.261; p < 0.001). Patients consume more meats (red and white), cocoa and lentils. A lot of patients exceed recommended daily intake of pork and beef. CONCLUSIONS Many conditions are different for the healthy population and patients' group. High BMI, low fluid intake, exceeded red meat consumption, and low physical activity are the strongest factors for developing urolithiasis. Patients should consume more fluids daily, exercise frequently and vigorously, and lower amount of red meat consumed.

Abstract
Our study explores the combined effect of polyacrylic acid and vitamin E as prophylactic and curative agent against ethylene glycol (EG) induced calcium oxalate stone formation in Wistar rats. Male Wistar rats (54) were divided into nine groups, including control. The experimental groups were equally segregated into two for preventive study (4) and curative study (4). Urolithiasis was induced with 0.75% (v/v) EG in drinking water. Polyacrylic acid (10 mg/kg) and vitamin E (300 IU/day) were supplemented from day 1 for preventive and day 30 for curative studies. Restoration of urinary lithogenic factors (calcium, oxalate, phosphate, citrate and magnesium) and renal function (urea and creatinine in serum) by intervening agents were accomplished compared to urolithic rats (P < .001). Abnormal localization and increased expression of Tamm-Horsfall Protein, osteopontin and transferrin were observed in the kidneys of urolithic rats (P < .001) from immunohistochemistry and immunoblotting analysis. Polyacrylic acid and vitamin E supplementation have regulated the expression of the urinary macromolecules. Pro-inflammatory cytokines in kidney were significantly reduced (P < .001) by the intervening agents compared to urolithic rats. Therefore, polyacrylic acid and vitamin E in combination could be a potential formulation for better management of urolithiasis.

Abstract
Introduction. Computed tomography is more accurate than excretory urography in
evaluation of renal stones due to its high sensitivity and temporal resolution; it
permits sub-millimetric evaluation of the size and site of calculi but cannot evaluate
their chemical composition. Dual-energy computed tomography allows evaluating the
chemical composition of urinary calculi using simultaneous image acquisition at two
different energy levels.
The objective of the research was to determine renal stone
composition using dual-energy multidetector computed tomography, and its correlation
with post-extraction chemical analysis of stones.
Materials and Methods. This
prospective study was conducted in the Department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging from
September 2017 to March 2019. A total of 50 patients with urolithiasis at the age of
18-70 years were included in the study. Dual-energy computed tomography ratios of
various stones were noted, and preoperative composition of calculi was given based on
their colour and dual-energy computed tomography ratio. These results were compared with
the post-extraction chemical analysis of stones (using Fourier infrared transform
spectroscopy as the standard comparative method.)
Results. The most common type of
calculi in our study population was calcium oxalate stones (78%) followed by uric acid
stones (12%), cystine stones (6%) and hydroxyapatite stones (4%). The dual-energy ratio
of calcium oxalate, uric acid, cystine and hydroxyapatite stones ranged from 1.38-1.59,
0.94-1.08, and 1.20-1.28 and 1.52-1.57, respectively, with the mean dual-energy ratio of
1.43, 1.01, 1.25 and 1.55, respectively. Dual-energy computed tomography was found to be
100% sensitive and specific for differentiating uric acid stones from non‑uric acid
stones. The sensitivity and specificity in differentiating calcium oxalate calculus from
non‑calcium oxalate calculus was 97.5% and 90.9%, respectively, with 96% accuracy and
kappa value of 0.883 suggesting strong agreement.
Conclusions. Dual-energy computed
tomography is highly sensitive and accurate in distinguishing between various types of
renal calculi. It has vital role in management as uric acid calculi are amenable to drug
treatment, while most of non-uric acid calculi require surgical intervention.
