Abstract
Aims/hypothesis: The association between gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has been reported by many observational studies in the Asian population. This study aimed to examine the bidirectional causal effects between GERD and RA by two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses using genetic evidence. Methods: Two-sample Mendelian randomization analyses were performed to determine the causal effect of GERD (129,080 cases vs. 602,604 control participants) on RA (6,236 cases vs. 147,221 control participants) and RA on GERD, respectively. The inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method was used as the primary analysis. Weighted median and MR-Egger regression were taken as supplementary analyses. Cochran's Q test evaluated the heterogeneity. Horizontal pleiotropy was detected by estimating the intercept term of MR-Egger regression. Furthermore, multivariable MR analyses were performed to exclude the influence of confounding factors, including the years of schooling, BMI, and time spent watching television, between GERD and RA. Result: Both univariate MR (UVMR) and multivariable MR (MVMR) provided valid evidence that RA was causally and positively influenced by GERD (UVMR: OR = 1.49, 95% CI = 1.25-1.76, p = 6.18*10-6; MVMR: OR = 1.69, 95% CI = 1.24-2.31, p = 8.62*10-4), whereas GERD was not influenced by RA (UVMR: OR = 1.03, 95% CI = 1.00-1.06, p = 0.042; MVMR: OR = 1.04, 95% CI = 1.00-1.07, p = 0.0271). Conclusion: Our comprehensive bidirectional MR analysis found that for the European population, GERD can induce the occurrence of RA (OR = 1.69, p < 0.00125), whereas RA only has no significant influence on GERD. In particular, patients with GERD are suffering a 69% increased risk of RA occurrence, which means GERD is a substantial risk factor for RA.

Abstract
Collagen, an abundant extracellular matrix protein, has been found to have a lot of pharmaceuticals, medicine, food, and cosmetics applications. Increased knowledge of collagen sources, extraction techniques, structure, and properties in the last decades has helped develop more collagen-based products and tissue engineering biomaterials. Collagen products have been playing an important role in benefiting the health of the human body, especially for aging people. In this paper, the effects of collagen treatment in different clinical studies including skin regeneration, bone defects, sarcopenia, wound healing, dental therapy, gastroesophageal reflux, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis have been reviewed. The collagen treatments were significant in these clinical studies. In addition, the associations between these diseases were discussed. The comorbidity of these diseases might be closely related to collagen deficiency, and collagen treatment might be a good choice when a patient has more than one of these diseases, including the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). It concludes that collagen-based medication is useful in treating comorbid diseases and preventing complications.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with rheumatologic disorders often have comorbidities that complicate their psychological well-being. In this study, we looked at 216 patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematous (SLE), psoriatic arthritis (PsA), and Sjogren's syndrome (SS) to determine the prevalence of anxiety, depression, sleep disturbance, fibromyalgia (FM), obesity (BMI greater than 23), and gastroesophageal disease (GERD) and the correlation between FM, BMI, disease activity measure, known as Routine Assessment of Patient Index Data 3 (RAPID3). METHODS Study participants were 216 rheumatology patients seen at the UCF Pegasus Health Clinic from November 2011 to May 2014 with one or more of the following diseases: RA, SS, SLE, or PsA. 116 had rheumatoid arthritis, 27 with systemic lupus erythematous, 22 with psoriatic arthritis, 20 with Sjogren's syndrome, and 31 with more than one diagnosis. Variables that were collected from patients' charts included RAPID3 scores, patient demographics (age, sex), BMI, presence of GERD, and presence of FM. Each patient was randomly assigned, unique and had an unidentifiable study number. RESULTS Anxiety, depression, sleep disturbance and obesity were found to be more prevalent in patients with Sjogren's syndrome, and fibromyalgia was noted to be more prevalent in patients with more than 1 diagnosis. The presence of fibromyalgia was significantly correlated with higher RAPID3 scores in all patients except those with PsA. Significant correlation among higher BMI and greater RAPID3 scores was found for patients with rheumatoid arthritis and for patients with Sjogren's syndrome. CONCLUSION Our study showed an increased prevalence of anxiety in patients with Sjogren's syndrome. Fibromyalgia was found to be related to higher disease activity scores. In RA and SS patients, BMI was significantly correlated with higher RAPID3 scores. These results provide a basis for future studies to evaluate these correlations in more detail.

Abstract
Several previous studies have suggested a relationship between GERD and RA. However, no study has investigated the bidirectional relationship between GERD and RA. This study aimed to evaluate the causal relationships between rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Participants aged ≥ 20 years old in the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service-National Sample Cohort from 2002 to 2013 were enrolled. In study I, 132,140 GERD participants were 1:2 matched with 264,280 control I participants. In study II, 6615 RA participants were 1:4 matched with 26,460 control II participants. Both control I and control II groups were matched with their study groups for age, sex, income, and region of residence. The occurrence of RA (study I) and GERD (study II) were followed up in both the study and control groups. The hazard ratios (HRs) of GERD for RA (study I) and of RA for GERD (study II) were analysed using stratified Cox-proportional hazards models. In study I, 0.8% (1,034/132,140) of the GERD group and 0.5% (1,290/264,280) of the control I group had RA (P < 0.001). The GERD group demonstrated a 1.49-fold higher adjusted HR than did the control I group (95% confidence interval (95% CI) = 1.37-1.62, P < 0.001). In study II, 22.5% (1,490/6,615) of the RA group and 15.2% (4,034/26,460) of the control II group had GERD (P < 0.001). The RA group showed a 1.46-fold higher adjusted HR than did the control II group (95% CI = 1.38-1.55, P < 0.001). GERD and RA have bidirectional associations in Korean adult population. Key Points • Several previous studies have suggested a relationship between gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). • However, no study has investigated the bidirectional relationship between GERD and RA. • This is the first study to present a bidirectional relationship between GERD and RA. • GERD and RA have bidirectional relations with each other.

Abstract
From the standpoint of evidence - based medicine, the ability of various drugs to induce the development of gastroesophageal reflux disease and esophagitis is considered. Thus, all known drugs can be divided into 3 groups: drugs that have the ability to reduce pressure in the lower esophageal sphincter, for example, β-adrenoreceptor agonists, α-adrenoreceptor antagonists, anticholinergics, calcium channel blockers, nitrates, benzodiazepines (diazepam), estrogen, progesterone, aminophylline (theophylline), tricyclic antidepressants, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, glucocorticosteroids; means providing a direct damaging effect on the esophageal mucosa, as well as lowering its resistance reflyuktatu, e.g., bisphosphonates, acetylsalicylic acid / non - steroidal anti - inflammatory agents, anticoagulants, antiplatelet drugs, iron preparations, ascorbic acid, potassium chloride, quinidine, phenytoin, calcium dobesilate, 131I sodium iodide, antibiotics (tetracycline, doxycycline, clindamycin, ciprofloxacin, ornidazole, clindamycin, rifampicin), antitumor agents; drugs that impede gastric emptying: calcium channel blockers, anticholinergics. These data can be used in practice in the choice of treatment tactics, especially in individuals with a diagnosis of gastroesophageal reflux disease or heartburn.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is one of the most common comorbidity in many diseases, but the frequency in rheumatic disease has not been well understood. METHODS We investigated the prevalence of GERD by GerdQ in 530 rheumatic patients [systematic lupus erythematosus (SLE; n = 120), rheumatoid arthritis (RA; n = 117), polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR; n = 40), dermatomyositis and polymyositis (PM/DM; n = 38), systemic scleroderma (SSc; n = 37), mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD; n = 18), Behçet disease (BD; n = 17), adult onset still disease (AOSD; n = 14), and other rheumatic diseases (n = 129)]. RESULTS The mean GerdQ scores of patients was 6.2 ± 1.8, respectively, and no significant differences were observed between all patients. However, the GERD prevalence in SSc and BD was increased compared to that in SLE, RA, PMR, PM/DM, MCTD, and AOSD. In no medication of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), a significant increase in the risk of GERD symptoms was 2.5 times compared with that in the medication of PPIs in all patients by multivariable regression analysis. On the other hand, there were no increased risks of GERD symptoms with corticosteroids. CONCLUSION In rheumatic diseases, GerdQ would be the useful tool of diagnosis GERD, regardless whether the patients complain or not about gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms.
