Abstract
Antibiotic resistance is a major global public health concern. Acinetobacter baumannii is a nosocomial pathogen that has emerged as a global threat because of its high levels of resistance to many antibiotics, particularly those considered as last-resort antibiotics, such as carbapenems. Mobile genetic elements (MGEs) play an important role in the dissemination and expression of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), including the mobilization of ARGs within and between species. We conducted an in-depth, systematic investigation of the occurrence and dissemination of ARGs associated with MGEs in A. baumannii. We focused on a cross-sectoral approach that integrates humans, animals, and environments. Four strategies for the prevention of ARG dissemination through MGEs have been discussed: prevention of airborne transmission of ARGs using semi-permeable membrane-covered thermophilic composting; application of nanomaterials for the removal of emerging pollutants (antibiotics) and pathogens; tertiary treatment technologies for controlling ARGs and MGEs in wastewater treatment plants; and the removal of ARGs by advanced oxidation techniques. This review contemplates and evaluates the major drivers involved in the transmission of ARGs from the cross-sectoral perspective and ARG-transfer prevention processes.

Abstract
Microbial safety is critically important for powdered infant formula (PIF) fed to neonates, with under-developed immune systems. The quality and safety of food products are dictated by those microorganisms found in both raw materials and the built production environment. In this study, a 2-year monitoring program of a production environment was carried out in two PIF factories located in the Republic of Ireland, and the environmental microbiome in different care areas of these sites was studied by using a 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA)-based sequencing technique. Results highlighted a core microbiome associated with the PIF factory environment containing 24 bacterial genera representing five phyla, with Acinetobacter and Pseudomonas as the predominant genera. In different care areas of the PIF factory, as hygiene standards increased, deciphered changes in microbial community compositions became smaller over time and approached stability, and bacteria dominating the care area became less influenced by the external environment and more by human interactions and raw materials. These observations indicated that the microbial composition can be altered in response to environmental interventions. Genera Cronobacter and Salmonella were observed in trace amounts in the PIF factory environment, and bacterial genera known to be persistent in a stressed environment, such as Acinetobacter, Bacillus, Streptococcus, and Clostridium, were likely to have higher abundances in dry environment-based care areas. To our knowledge, this is the first study to characterize the PIF production environment microbiome using 16S rRNA-based sequencing. This study described the composition and changing trends of the environmental microbial communities in different care areas of the PIF manufacturing facility, and it provided valuable information to support the safer production of PIF in the future.

Abstract
In this study, we investigated the species composition and diversity of psychrotrophic bacteria in raw milk from Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, Chongqing, and Hunan provinces in China using traditional cultivation and PacBio Single Molecule Real-Time sequencing methods. The isolated psychrotrophic bacteria were highly diverse, which composed of 21 genera and 59 species. Pseudomonas accounted for 58.9% of the total genera while Stenotrophomonas and Enterococcus were also highly represented (above 5.0%). In particular, P. azotoformans occurred at a level of 16.9% and P. paralactis, P. lactis, E. faecalis, and P. marginalis were present in relatively high proportions (above 4.0%). Regional differences were found significantly among the test regions except samples from Heilongjiang and Inner Mongolia were similar. Additionally, differences were observed between days in Henan, Anhui, and Jiangsu samples. Therefore, control strategies must be implemented on regional and season basis.

Abstract
The internal environment of the cow's udder directly affects the udder health and milk quality. 16S rDNA sequencing and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) methods were used to investigate the significant differences in milk microbial diversity and metabolites among cows that are healthy (H) and those suffering from subclinical mastitis (SM) and clinical mastitis (CM). Results uncovered more than 16 and 192 differently abundant microbiota at the phylum and genus levels, respectively, and 673 different levels of metabolites enriched in 20 pathways in milk among the 3 groups. This study revealed the positive relevance between Staphylococcus and Streptococcus and ceramide in milk from CM cows. Similarly, Acinetobacter and Corynebacterium were positively associated with testosterone glucuronide and 5-methyl-tetrahydrofolate, in milk from SM cows. On the basis of the combined analysis of microbiome and metabolome, this study indicated that, apart from the exogenous pathogens, some beneficial symbiotic bacteria, such as Dietzia, Aeromicrobium, Alistipes, and Sphingobacterium, rarely reported in milk have been found to be significantly reduced during mastitis.

Abstract
Forty-seven Acinetobacter spp. isolates from milk powder obtained from a powdered milk producer in Germany were investigated for their antibiotic resistance susceptibilities, in order to assess whether strains from food harbor multiple antibiotic resistances and whether the food route is important for dissemination of resistance genes. The strains were identified by 16S rRNA and rpoB gene sequencing, as well as by whole genome sequencing of selected isolates and their in silico DNA-DNA hybridization (DDH). Furthermore, they were genotyped by rep-PCR together with reference strains of pan-European groups I, II, and III strains of Acinetobacter baumannii. Of the 47 strains, 42 were identified as A. baumannii, 4 as Acinetobacter Pittii, and 1 as Acinetobacter calcoaceticus based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing. In silico DDH with the genome sequence data of selected strains and rpoB gene sequencing data suggested that the five non-A. baumannii strains all belonged to A. pittii, suggesting that the rpoB gene is more reliable than the 16S rRNA gene for species level identification in this genus. Rep-PCR genotyping of the A. baumannii strains showed that these could be grouped into four groups, and that some strains clustered together with reference strains of pan-European clinical group II and III strains. All strains in this study were intrinsically resistant toward chloramphenicol and oxacillin, but susceptible toward tetracycline, tobramycin, erythromycin, and ciprofloxacin. For cefotaxime, 43 strains (91.5%) were intermediate and 3 strains (6.4%) resistant, while 3 (6.4%) and 21 (44.7%) strains exhibited resistance to cefepime and streptomycin, respectively. Forty-six (97.9%) strains were susceptible to amikacin and ampicillin-sulbactam. Therefore, the strains in this study were generally not resistant to the clinically relevant antibiotics, especially tobramycin, ciprofloxacin, cefepime, and meropenem, suggesting that the food route probably poses only a low risk for multidrug resistant Acinetobacter strains or resistance genes.
