Abstract
BACKGROUND Digital health technologies are increasingly used by healthcare professionals working in pediatric hospital and rehabilitation settings. Multiple factors may affect the implementation and use of digital health technologies in these settings. However, such factors have not been identified in a multidisciplinary, pediatric context. The objective of this study was to describe actual use and to identify the factors that promote or hinder the intention to use digital health technologies (mobile learning applications, virtual/augmented reality, serious games, robotic devices, telehealth applications, computerized assessment tools, and wearables) among pediatric healthcare professionals. METHODS An online survey evaluating opinions, current use, and future intentions to use digital health technologies was completed by 108 professionals at one of Canada's largest pediatric institutes. Mann-Whitney U tests were used to compare the attitudes of healthcare professionals who intend to increase their use of digital health technologies and those who do not. Linear regression analyses were used to determine predictors of usage success. RESULTS Healthcare professionals reported mostly using mobile and tablet learning applications (n = 43, 38.1%), telehealth applications (n = 49, 43.4%), and computerized assessment tools (n = 33, 29.2%). Attitudes promoting the intention to increase the use of digital health technologies varied according to technology type. Healthcare professionals who wished to increase their use of digital health technologies reported a more positive attitude regarding benefits in clinical practice and patient care, but were also more critical of potential negative impacts on patient-professional relationships. Ease of use (β = 0.374; p = 0.020) was a significant predictor of more favorable usage success. The range of obstacles encountered was also a significant predictor (β = 0.342; p = 0.032) of less favorable evaluation of usage success. Specific factors that hinder successful usage are lack of training (β = 0.303; p = 0.033) and inadequate infrastructure (β = 0.342; p = 0.032). CONCLUSIONS When working with children, incorporating digital health technologies can be effective for motivation and adherence. However, it is crucial to ensure these tools are implemented properly. The findings of this study underscore the importance of addressing training and infrastructure needs when elaborating technology-specific strategies for multidisciplinary adoption of digital health technologies in pediatric settings.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This scoping review aims to explore published literature testing Virtual Reality (VR) interventions for improving upper limb motor performance in children and adolescents with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD). Our primary focus was on the types of VR systems used and the measurement tools employed within the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health Children and Youth Version (ICF-CY) domains in these studies. METHODS A comprehensive search of six electronic databases up to 11th January 2024 was conducted using predefined terms. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied to determine study eligibility, with two authors independently assessing titles, abstracts, and full-text articles. RESULTS Out of 788 potential studies, 14 met the eligibility criteria. Studies predominantly utilized non-immersive VR (nVR) systems, for example, commercial platforms such as Nintendo Wii. Most interventions targeted general motor coordination or balance, with only four studies specifically focusing on upper limb motor performance. The Movement Assessment Battery for Children-2 was the predominant assessment tool. However, the use of game scores and trial durations raised concerns about the accuracy of assessments. The majority of studies reported no significant improvement in upper limb motor performance following VR interventions, though some noted improvements in specific tasks or overall outcomes. CONCLUSION The findings suggest that, while nVR interventions are being explored for paediatric motor rehabilitation, their impact on enhancing upper limb motor performance in children with DCD is unclear. The variability in intervention designs, outcome measures, and the predominant focus on general motor skills rather than specific upper limb improvements highlight the need for more targeted research in this area. IMPACT This review underscores the importance of developing precise and clinically relevant measurement tools in a broader range of VR technologies to optimize the use of VR in therapy for children with DCD. Future research should aim for more rigorous study designs and emerging immersive technologies to maximize therapeutic benefits.

Abstract
AIMS To describe the nature of custom and non-custom virtual reality and active video game (VR/AVG) implementation within a Hand-Arm Bimanual Intensive Therapy Including Lower Extremities (HABIT-ILE) intervention program for children with hemiplegia. METHODS Six children aged 8-11 years participated in a 10-day HABIT-ILE intervention (65 h; 6.5 planned VR/AVG hours). VR/AVG implementation details were recorded daily and summarized with descriptive statistics; active motor engagement was quantified as minutes of active game participation. Post-intervention interviews with interventionists were analyzed with qualitative content analysis. RESULTS On average, participants received 79% of the planned VR/AVG dosage (314/400 planned minutes, range 214-400 min), of which the per-session active motor engagement average was 68% (27 min, SD 12 min). Participation involved equivalent amounts of custom (49%) and non-custom (51%) VR/AVG system use. Material and verbal adaptations facilitated alignment with HABIT-ILE principles. Interventionists identified type of task (gross versus fine motor), children's perceived motivation, and VR/AVG attributes as factors influencing active motor engagement and alignment with HABIT-ILE principles. CONCLUSIONS Describing individual and technological challenges of VR/AVG integration within HABIT-ILE can advance knowledge about VR/AVG use in intensive interventions and identify directions for subsequent research.

Abstract
Background and Aims Upper limb disabilities are one of the most common disabilities among different groups of people who always need rehabilitation. One of the important methods in helping to carry out efficient rehabilitation processes and exercises is the use of games. The aim of this study is to identify the parameters necessary to design a successful rehabilitation game and the outcomes of using these games in upper limb disabilities rehabilitation. Methods This scoping review was conducted by searching the Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus. The eligibility criteria were: any form of game-based upper limb rehabilitation, published in a peer-reviewed journal, published in English, and not include articles that did not focus upper limb disabilities rehabilitation games, review, meta-analysis, or conference papers. Analysis of collected data was done using descriptive statistics (frequency and percentage). Results The search strategy retrieved 537 relevant articles. Finally, after removing irrelevant and repetitive articles, 21 articles were included in this study. Among the six categories of diseases or complications of upper limb disabilities, games were mostly designed for stroke patients. Smart wearables, robots and telerehabilitation were three technologies that were used for rehabilitation along with games. Sports and shooters were the most used games for upper limb disability rehabilitation. Among 99 necessary parameters for designing and implementing a successful rehabilitation game in ten categories. "Increasing the patient's motivation to perform rehabilitation exercises", "Game difficulty levels", "Enjoying and the attractiveness of the game for patients", and "Providing positive or negative audiovisual feedback" were the most important parameters. "Improvement in musculoskeletal performance" and "Increasing users' enjoyment/joy of therapeutic exercises and their motivation to perform these exercises" were the most important positive outcomes, and "Mild discomfort such as nausea and dizziness when using games" was the only negative outcome. Conclusions The successful design of a game according to the parameters identified in the present study can lead to an increase in the positive outcomes of using games in the rehabilitation of disabilities. The study results indicate that upper limb therapeutic exercise augmented with virtual reality games may be highly effective in enhancing motor rehabilitation outcomes.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Digital technologies can be used as part of paediatric motor rehabilitation to remediate impairment, promote recovery and improve function. However, the uptake of digital technologies in this clinical field may be limited.The aim of this study is to describe and explain digital technology use for paediatric motor rehabilitation. The specific objectives will be: (1) to describe the access to, acceptance of and use of digital technologies as a function of individual factors related to professionals practicing motor rehabilitation with children, and of environmental factors related to paediatric rehabilitation practice and (2) to explain digital technology use with a causal model based on the 'unified theory of acceptance and use of technology'. METHODS AND ANALYSIS RehaTech4child (Rehabilitation Technologies For children) is a cross-sectional study involving an online survey, that is sponsored by the European Academy of Childhood Disability (EACD). The survey protocol follows the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology and CHERRIES (Checklist for Reporting Results of Internet E-Surveys) guidelines. The survey includes 43 questions about (1) respondents' individual and environmental characteristics; (2) the ease of access to digital technologies, and the frequency, type and purpose of use of those technologies and (3) acceptance of technologies and barriers to their use. The survey is intended for professionals involved in paediatric motor rehabilitation. It is disseminated across Europe by the EACD network in 20 languages. Participation is anonymous and voluntary. We aim to include 500 respondents to ensure sufficient precision for the description of study outcomes and to perform stratified analyses by the main determinants. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Ethics approval was waived by the Brest CHRU Institutional Review Board. The study is conducted according to current French legislation (loi Jardé (n°2012-300)) and the survey is GDPR compliant. Study findings will be presented at national and international meetings and submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER NCT05176522.

Abstract
Upper limb motor impairment (ULMI) rehabilitation is a long-term, demanding and challenging process to recover motor functionality. Children and adolescents may be limited in daily life activities due to reduced functions such as decreased joint movement or muscle weakness. Home-based therapy with Immersive Virtual Reality can offer greater accessibility, delivery and early rehabilitation to significantly optimise functional outcomes and quality of life. This feasibility study aimed to explore the perceptions and impacts of an immersive and interactive VR scenario suitable for ULMI rehabilitation for children at home. It was analysed using mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative) and from a multidirectional perspective (patients, clinicians and family members). Amongst the main results, it was found that IVR for ULMI home rehabilitation (1) is easy to learn and acceptable; (2) improves motor function; (3) reduces the difficulty in the reproduction of therapeutic movements; (4) is motivating and enjoyable and (5) improves quality of life. This study is the first study on the use of IVR applied to home rehabilitation of ULMI in children. These results suggested that similar outcomes may be possible with self-directed IVR home rehabilitation compared to face to face conventional rehabilitation, which can be costly to both the patient and the healthcare system, decreasing the length of stay at the hospital and treatment duration. It has also presented an innovative solution to the Covid-19 emergency where children could not receive their clinic therapy. Further research is recommended to understand better the mechanisms involved in physiotherapeutic recovery and how IVR rehabilitation helps to improve conventional treatments. Abstract
Millions of children and young people (CYP) in the UK are affected by chronic or rare health conditions. Rapid advances in science and technology have resulted in CYP with chronic and rare conditions now surviving well into adulthood. New technologies have the potential to improve short- and long-term health outcomes for CYP with health conditions, prevent adult onset disease and complications, and reduce the burden on health services. There is thus a need for targeted investment and appropriate governance in child health technology development to address the specific needs of this population; health technology must be versatile to meet the social, anatomical, cognitive, psychological, and physiological changes inherent to childhood development. Despite the growing demand for health technology for a sizeable global population, industry still wrongly perceives the market size is relatively small, and health technology development is often localised and fragmented with limited scope for spread and adoption. These challenges can be overcome by validating and prioritising unmet needs, involving CYP and their families throughout the innovation pathway, facilitating effective partnerships with key stakeholders, and utilising national and international infrastructure and networks. This paper outlines five innovations supported by NIHR Children and Young People MedTech Co-operative that illustrate how common challenges in child health technology development can be overcome. It is essential that we continue to address such challenges and invest in the health and wellbeing of CYP.

We aimed to evaluate the compliance of functional exercises in school-age children with limb fracture, to provide evidence to the clinical management and nursing care of children with limb fracture. Methods School-age children with limb fractures treated in our hospital from January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021 were selected. The characteristics and postoperative functional exercise compliance of included children were analyzed. Pearson correlation and Logistic regression analysis were conducted to analyze the influencing factors of compliance to functional exercises. Results A total of 328 children with limb fracture were included, the incidence of compliance to functional exercise was only 35.98%. Pearson correlation analysis showed that age(r = 0.707), only child of family(r = 0.537), guardians(r = 0.642) and type of temperament(r = 0.635) were correlated with compliance to functional exercises in school-age children with limb fractures (all p < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis indicated that age ≤ 10y (OR2.913, 95%CI2.091 ~ 3.611), only child of family (OR2.006, 95%CI1.683 ~ 2.558), guarded by grandparents (OR1.512, 95%CI1.201 ~ 2.118), non-easy-going temperament (OR4.127, 95%CI3.811 ~ 4.902) were the influencing factors of non-compliance to functional exercises in children with limb fracture (all p < 0.05). Conclusions School-age children have poor compliance with functional exercises after limb fractures, and there are many influencing factors. For children with those risks, health care providers should actively intervene in nursing to improve children’s exercise compliance and the rehabilitation effect.

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the usability of 2 head-mounted displays in youths undergoing neurorehabilitation; a mixed reality head-mounted display and a virtual reality head-mounted display. Design Observational cross-sectional study. Patients Thirteen youths (age range 7.8–16.5 years) with neuromotor disorder. Methods Youths wore a mixed reality or a virtual reality head-mounted display while being verbally guided through a scene with virtual objects. Differences between the 2 systems, regarding usability, user experience, and acceptability, were evaluated using standardized questions for the youths and their therapists. System preferences and symptoms of cybersickness were noted. Results Both head-mounted displays were easy to mount and adjust to the children’s heads, but the mixed reality system was unstable in 40% of the youths. Participants stated that they could move naturally with both devices. Object appearance scored higher with the virtual reality system, while therapists rated youths’ movement execution and needed additional support in favour of the mixed reality system. Most youths preferred the virtual reality device, mainly due to the more distinct appearance of objects and the objects’ richer colours. Therapists’ preferences were balanced. Two children reported minimal signs of cybersickness. Conclusion Youths and therapists accepted both systems well, with advantages regarding usability, user experience, and preference for the virtual reality, and acceptability for the mixed reality head-mounted display.
