Multifocal squamous cell carcinoma arising in a Favre-Racouchot lesion - report of two cases and review of the literature

Nodular Elastoidosis with Cysts and Acne: A Case Report

A 53-year-old male presented to the clinic for "bilateral temporal dark yellow plaques with pruritus for 8 years." The patient had bilateral temporal dark yellow plaques without obvious inducement 8 years ago and did not see doctors at that time. Five years ago, bilateral temporal skin lesions gradually increased and were accompanied by severe itching. On top of them, there were several blackheads and pimples with the size of needle tips up to the size of rice grains. After compression, lipid substances could be excreted and there was a clear odor. The patient sought medical attention at a local hospital, but the diagnosis and medication were unknown, and the symptoms did not improve. In the past month, due to the aggravation of skin lesions and itching that affected sleep, he visited the outpatient clinic of our hospital again. The patient was diagnosed with nodular elastoidosis with cysts and acne and was given 5% peroxybenzoyl gel and 0.1% tretinoin cream for topical use. After 2 weeks, the itching symptoms of the patient were significantly reduced.

Favre-Racouchot disease: protective effect of solar elastosis

Favre-Racouchot disease (FRD) is an occupational disorder characterized by solar elastosis with open and cystically dilated comedones that tend to appear on the periorbital and temporal face of elderly light-complexioned men. It is a benign condition caused by chronic excessive ultraviolet exposure, as well as ionizing radiation and/or smoking. However, malignant skin neoplasms are uncommonly observed arising in FRD, which suggests a protective role of some element of FRD against carcinogenesis. We explore elastosis as a possibly beneficial tissue response. The clinical manifestations, pathogenesis, and recommended treatment options of this disorder are reviewed.

Carcinoma Cuniculatum of the Lower Leg: A Case Report and Proposed Diagnostic Criteria

Carcinoma cuniculatum is an infrequent variant of squamous cell carcinoma described for the first time by Ian Aird in 1954. Since then, multiple reports of cutaneous carcinoma cuniculatum have been published at various sites, including palms, soles, buttocks, and lower legs, but most of them did not match to original description. In the current study, we report a unique case of a 69-year-old woman with carcinoma cuniculatum arising in the calf. Moreover, we update the histopathological criteria of cutaneous carcinoma cuniculatum by combining the literature descriptions and the experiences from the current case.
