A Bibliometric Analysis: Current Perspectives and Potential Trends of Enzyme Thermostability from 1991-2022

Thermostability is considered a crucial parameter to evaluate the viability of enzymes in industrial applications. Over the past 31 years, many studies have been reported on the thermostability of enzymes. However, there is no systematic bibliometric analysis of publications on the thermostability of enzymes. In this study, 16,035 publications related to the thermostability of enzymes were searched and collected, showing an increasing annual trend. China contributed the most publications, while the United States had the highest citation count. International Journal of Biological Macromolecules is the most productive journal in the research field. Moreover, Chinese acad sci and Khosro Khajeh are the most active institutions and prolific authors in the field, respectively. Analysis of references with the strongest citation bursts and keyword co-occurrences, magnetic nanoparticles, metal-organic frameworks, molecular dynamics, and rational design are current hot spots and significant future research directions. This study is the first comprehensive bibliometric analysis summarizing trends and developments in enzyme thermostability research. Our findings could provide scholars with an understanding of the fundamental knowledge framework of the field and identify recent potential hotspots and research trends that could facilitate the discovery of collaboration opportunities.

Role of gut microbiota in cardiovascular diseases - a comprehensive review

The connection between cardiovascular illnesses and the gut microbiota has drawn more and more attention in recent years. According to research, there are intricate relationships between dietary elements, gut bacteria, and their metabolites that affect cardiovascular health. In this study, the role of gut microbiota in cardiovascular disorders is examined, with an emphasis on the cardiac consequences brought on by changes in gut microbiota. This essay discusses the gut-heart axis in depth and in detail. It talks about clinical research looking at how soy consumption, probiotic supplements, and dietary changes affected gut microbiota and cardiovascular risk variables. Our goal is to clarify the possible pathways that connect gut microbiota to cardiovascular health and the implications for upcoming treatment approaches. The authors examine the composition, roles, and effects of the gut microbiota on cardiovascular health, including their contributions to hypertension, atherosclerosis, lipid metabolism, and heart failure. Endotoxemia, inflammation, immunological dysfunction, and host lipid metabolism are some of the potential processes investigated for how the gut microbiota affects cardiac outcomes. The research emphasizes the need for larger interventional studies and personalized medicine strategies to completely understand the complexity of the gut-heart axis and its implications for the management of cardiovascular disease. Influence of glutamine metabolism on diabetes Development:A scientometric review

Objective

"Metabolism affects function" is the consensus of researchers at present. It has potential clinical application value to study the effects of regulating glutamine (Gln) metabolism on diabetes physiology or pathology. Our research aimed to summarize the latest research progress, frontier hot topics and future development trends in this field from the perspective of scientometrics.

Methods

Relevant literatures and reviews were obtained from the Web of Science (WoS) between January 1, 2001 and May 31, 2022. An online analysis platform of bibliometrics, CiteSpace, and VOS viewer software were used to generate visual knowledge network graphs, including publication countries, institutions and authors partnership analysis, co-occurrence analysis, co-citation analysis, as well as citations and keywords burst detection to acquire research trends and hotspots.

Results

Our results showed that a total of 945 publications in the WoS database met the analysis requirements, with articles being the main type. The overall characteristics showed an increasing trend in the number of publications and citations. The United States was leading the way in this research and was a hub for aggregating collaborations across countries. Vanderbilt University delivered high-quality impact with the most published articles. DeBerardinis, RJ in this field was the most representative author and his main research contents were Gln metabolism and mitochondrial glutaminolysis. Significantly, there was a relative lack of collaboration between institutions and authors. In addition, "type 2 diabetes", "glutamine", "metabolism", "gene expression" and "metabolomics" were the keywords categories with high frequency in co-citation references and co-occurrence cluster keywords. Analysis of popular keywords burst detection showed that "branched chain", "oxidative phosphorylation", "kinase", "insulin sensitivity", "tca cycle", "magnetic resonance spectroscopy" and "flux analysis" were new research directions and emerging methods to explore the link between Gln metabolism and diabetes. Overall, exploring Gln metabolism showed a gradual upward trend in the field of diabetes.

Conclusion

This comprehensive scientometric study identified the general outlook for the field and provided valuable guidance for ongoing research. Strategies to regulate Gln metabolism hold promise as a novel target to treat diabetes, as well as integration and intersection of multidisciplinary provides cooperation strategies and technical guarantees for the development of this field.

A scoping review on the methodological and reporting quality of scoping reviews in China

BACKGROUND

Scoping reviews have emerged as a valuable method for synthesizing emerging evidence, providing a comprehensive contextual overview, and influencing policy and practice developments. The objective of this study is to provide an overview of scoping reviews conducted in Chinese academic institutions over the last decades.

METHOD

We conducted a comprehensive search of nine databases and six grey literature databases for scoping reviews conducted in Chinese academic institutions. The reporting quality of the included reviews was assessed using the Preferred Reporting Items for PRISMA-ScR checklist. We performed both quantitative and qualitative analyses, examining the conduct of the scoping reviews and exploring the breadth of research topics covered. We used Chi-squared and Wilcoxon rank-sum tests to compare methodological issues and reporting quality in English and Chinese-language reviews.

RESULTS

A total of 392 reviews published between 2013 and 2022 were included, 238 English-reported reviews and 154 Chinese-reported reviews, respectively. The primary purposes of these reviews were to map and summarize the evidence, with a particular focus on health and nursing topics. 98.7% of reviews explicitly used the term "scoping review", and the Arksey and O'Malley framework was the most frequently cited framework. Thirty-five English-reported scoping reviews provided a protocol for scoping review. PubMed was the most common source in English-reported reviews and CNKI in Chinese-reported reviews. Reviews published in English were more likely to search the grey literature (P = 0.005), consult information specialists (P < 0.001) and conduct an updated search (P = 0.012) than those in Chinese. Reviews published in English had a significantly high score compared to those published in Chinese (16 vs. 14; P < 0.001). The reporting rates in English-reported reviews were higher than those in Chinese reviews for seven items, but lower for structured summary (P < 0.001), eligibility criteria (P < 0.001), data charting process (P = 0.009) and data items (P = 0.015).

CONCLUSION

There has been a significant increase in the number of scoping reviews conducted in Chinese academic institutions each year since 2020. While the research topics covered are diverse, the overall reporting quality of these reviews is need to be improved. And there is a need for greater standardization in the conduct of scoping reviews in Chinese academic institutions.

Bibliometric and visual analysis of intestinal flora and immunity

BACKGROUND

The gut microbiota and its stability have important relationships with immunity. However, bibliometric analysis in this field is underdeveloped. This study aims to visualize publications related to the gut microbiota and immunity to identify research frontiers and hotspots, providing references and guidance for further research.

METHODS

Gut microbiota and immunity data were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database, and Microsoft Excel, Scimago Graphica and VOSviewer software were used to analyze publication output trends, the most productive countries/regions, journals, authors, co-cited references, and keywords.

RESULTS

This study analyzed 16,611 publications, including 10,865 articles and 5746 reviews, and found a continuous increase in publications related to gut microbiota and immunity since 2013. We identified 62,872 authors contributing to this field from 2144 journals and 9965 organizations/institutions in 145 countries/regions. The top publisher with the highest output is University of California System with 525 papers. Among these journals, the top 3 most prolific journals are Frontiers in Immunology, Frontiers in Microbiology, and PLOS ONE. The literature with the highest citation frequency is published in Science and has been cited 3006 times by Patrick M. Smith and others.Gut microbiota research hotspots include gut microbiota inflammation, immune response, inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs), and microbiota tumors. The gut microbiota and its microbial homeostasis play critical roles in immune reactions, inflammation, and even tumors and IBDs.Current research on gut microbiota and immunity is a popular field. Previous studies have shown that the gut microbiota and its microbial species have important effects on maintaining human health, immune function, inflammation, tumorigenesis, and IBDs. Understanding the roles of microbial communities and specific bacterial species as well as their interactions with humans has led to numerous discoveries that provide unique opportunities for exploring human health and future research.

CONCLUSION

This study used bibliometric and visualization analysis to identify the development trends and hotspots of publications related to the gut microbiota and immunity. The findings of this study provide valuable insights into the emerging trends and future directions in this field.

Knowledge mapping of spastic cerebral palsy. A bibliometric analysis of global research (2000-2022)

BACKGROUND

Cerebral palsy (CP) is characterized by abnormal pronunciation, posture, and movement. Spastic CP accounts for more than 70% of all CP. To date, there has been no bibliometric analysis to summarize study on spastic CP. Here, we aim to conduct a bibliometric analysis of spastic CP to summarize this field's knowledge structure, research hotspots, and frontiers.

METHOD

Publications about spastic CP were searched utilizing the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database from 1 January 2000 to 30 November 2022, the WoSCC literature analysis wire, VOSviewer 1.6.18, CiteSpace 6.1.R4 and Online analysis platform for bibliometrics were used to conduct the analysis.

RESULTS

A total of 3988 publications, consisting of 3699 articles and 289 reviews, were included in our study. The United States emerged as the most productive country, while Kathleen Univ Leuven was the most productive institution. The leading author was Desloovere K. A total of 238 journals contributed to this field, with Developmental medicine and child neurology being the leading journal. Important keywords and keyword clusters included Spastic cerebral palsy, Reliability, and Gross motor function. Keywords identified through burst detection indicated that hotspots in this field were management, randomized controlled trials, and definition.

CONCLUSION

Based on the analysis of bibliometric on spastic CP over the past 20 years, the trends and the knowledge graph of the countries, institutions, authors, references, and the keywords have been identified, providing accurate and expedited insights into critical information and potentially new directions in the study of spastic CP.

Bibliometric and visual analysis of doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity

Background: Doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity represents a prevalent adverse effect encountered in patients undergoing treatment with doxorubicin. To date, there has been no bibliometric study to summarize the field of doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity. In our study, we aim to determine the current status and frontiers of doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity by bibliometric analysis. Methods: The documents concerning doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity are obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection database (WOSCC), and VOSviewer 1.6.16, CiteSpace 5.1.3 and the WOSCC's literature analysis wire were used to conduct the bibliometric analysis. Results: In total, 7,021 publications were encompassed, which are produced by 37,152 authors and 6,659 organizations, 1,323 journals, and 101 countries/regions. The most productive author, institution, country and journal were Bonnie Ky with 35 publications, University of Texas with 190 documents, the United States with 1,912 publications, and PLOS ONE with 120 documents. The first high-cited article was published in the NEJM with 8,134 citations authored by DJ Slamon et al., in 2001. For keyword analysis, there are four clusters depicted in distinct directions. The keywords in the red cluster are oxidative stress, apoptosis, and cardiomyopathy. The keywords in the green cluster are cardiotoxicity, heart failure, and anthracycline. The keywords in the blue cluster are chemotherapy, trastuzumab, and paclitaxel. The keywords in the purple cluster are doxorubicin, adriamycin, and cancer. Most of the documents were derived from the United States, China and Italy (4,080/7,021, 58.1%). The number of studies from other countries should be increased. Conclusion: In conclusion, the main research hotspots and frontiers in the field of doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity include the role of doxorubicin in cardiotoxicity, the mechanisms underlying doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity, and the development of treatment strategies for doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity. More studies are needed to explore the mechanisms and treatment of doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity.

Gut microbiota and hypertension: a bibliometric analysis of recent research (2014-2023)

Background

Cardiovascular diseases persist as the primary cause of mortality in the global population. Hypertension (HTN) is widely recognized as one of the most crucial risk factors contributing to severe cardiovascular conditions. In recent years, a growing body of research has highlighted the therapeutic potential of gut microbiota (GM) in addressing cardiovascular diseases, particularly HTN. Consequently, unraveling and synthesizing the connections between GM and HTN, key research domains, and the underlying interaction mechanisms have grown increasingly vital.

Methods

We retrieved articles related to GM and HTN from 2014 to 2023 using Web of Science. Bibliometric tools employed in this analysis include CiteSpace and VOSviewer.

Result

From 2014 to 2023, we identified 1,730 related articles. These articles involved 88 countries (regions) and 9,573 authors. The articles were published in 593 journals, with 1000 references exhibiting co-occurrence more than 10 times. The number of studies in this field has been increasing, indicating that it remains a research hotspot. We expect this field to continue gaining attention in the future. China leads in the number of published articles, while the United States boasts the most extensive international collaborations, signifying its continued prominence as a research hub in this domain. Tain You-Lin, Hsu Chien-Ning, Raizada Mohan K, and Yang Tao are among the authors with the highest publication volume. Publications in this field are frequently found in nutrition, cardiovascular, and molecular biology journals. The most frequently occurring keywords include metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, inflammation, short-chain fatty acids, trimethylamine N-oxide, chronic kidney disease, heart failure, and high-salt diet.

Conclusion

The relationship between GM and HTN is presently one of the most active research areas. By employing bibliometric tools, we analyzed critical and innovative articles in this field to provide an objective summary of the primary research directions, such as the relationship between GM and HTN, GM metabolites, high-salt diet, the developmental origins of health and disease, obstructive sleep apnea-Induced hypertension and antihypertensive peptide. Our analysis aims to offer researchers insights into hotspots and emerging trends in the field of GM and HTN for future research reference.

Increased circulating phenylacetylglutamine concentration elevates the predictive value of cardiovascular event risk in heart failure patients

BACKGROUND

Phenylacetylglutamine (PAGln)-a newly discovered microbial metabolite produced by phenylalanine metabolism-is reportedly associated with cardiovascular events via adrenergic receptors. Nonetheless, its association with cardiovascular outcomes in heart failure (HF) patients remains unknown.

OBJECTIVES

This study aimed to prospectively investigate the prognostic value of PAGln for HF.

METHODS

Plasma PAGln levels were quantified by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. We first assessed the association between plasma PAGln levels and the incidence of adverse cardiovascular events in 3152 HF patients (including HF with preserved and reduced ejection fraction) over a median follow-up period of 2 years. The primary endpoint was the composite of cardiovascular death or heart transplantation. We then assessed the prognostic role of PAGln in addition to the classic biomarker N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP). The correlation between PAGln levels and β-blocker use was also investigated.

RESULTS

In total, 520 cardiovascular deaths or heart transplantations occurred in the HF cohort. Elevated PAGln levels were independently associated with a higher risk of the primary endpoint in a dose-response manner, regardless of HF subtype. Concurrent assessment of PAGln and NT-proBNP levels enhanced risk stratification among HF patients. PAGln further showed prognostic value at low NT-proBNP levels. Additionally, the interaction effects between PAGln and β-blocker use were not significant.

CONCLUSIONS

Plasma PAGln levels are an independent predictor of an increased risk of adverse cardiovascular events in HF. Our work could provide joint and complementary prognostic value to NT-proBNP levels in HF patients.

A bibliometric and visual analysis of research trends and hotspots of myocardial apoptosis: A review

BACKGROUND

Recent studies have found that cardiomyocyte apoptosis is closely associated with the pathophysiological development of various cardiovascular diseases, for example chronic heart failure and myocardial infarction. At present, there are many researches in this field, such as pharmacological research, traditional Chinese medicine intervention research and pathway research. However, the relevant research is fragmented, with few comprehensive analysis and systematic combing.

METHODS

The relevant literature on cardiomyocyte apoptosis was downloaded from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) and PubMed databases. Citespace 6.1.R2 software Microsoft Excel 2019 and VOSviewer1.6.18.0 were used for bibliometric and visual analysis of publication volume, countries, institutions, journals, authors, keywords.

RESULTS

Since 1996, there are 1881 research articles and reviews related to cardiomyocyte apoptosis published by 10,313 researchers from 1648 institutions in 58 countries or regions were included. The number of annual publications showed an upward trend, especially in recent years. Countries participating in this research area include China, the United States, and Japan. Capital Medical University, Harbin Medical University are the key research institution, and other institutions also have substantial contribution on the project as to cardiomyocyte apoptosis. The journal EUR REV MED PHARMACO has a large number of publications, whereas CIRCULATION has the highest number of co-citations. Keywords analysis showed that apoptosis, expression and oxidative stress had higher frequencies, leading to 8 clusters.

CONCLUSIONS

Cardiomyocyte apoptosis is a hot research field in recent years. Through visualization and bibliometric analysis, it is found that this field focus on hotspots like clinical manifestations including heart failure or myocardial infarction, and microscopic mechanisms such as oxidative stress and inflammation.

Human Gut Microbiota in Heart Failure: Trying to Unmask an Emerging Organ

There is a bidirectional relationship between the heart and the gut. The gut microbiota, the community of gut micro-organisms themselves, is an excellent gut-homeostasis keeper since it controls the growth of potentially harmful bacteria and protects the microbiota environment. There is evidence suggesting that a diet rich in fatty acids can be metabolized and converted by gut microbiota and hepatic enzymes to trimethyl-amine N-oxide (TMAO), a product that is associated with atherogenesis, platelet dysfunction, thrombotic events, coronary artery disease, stroke, heart failure (HF), and, ultimately, death. HF, by inducing gut ischemia, congestion, and, consequently, gut barrier dysfunction, promotes the intestinal leaking of micro-organisms and their products, facilitating their entrance into circulation and thus stimulating a low-grade inflammation associated with an immune response. Drugs used for HF may alter the gut microbiota, and, conversely, gut microbiota may modify the pharmacokinetic properties of the drugs. The modification of lifestyle based mainly on exercise and a Mediterranean diet, along with the use of pre- or probiotics, may be beneficial for the gut microbiota environment. The potential role of gut microbiota in HF development and progression is the subject of this review.

Unveiling the hidden world of gut health: Exploring cutting-edge research through visualizing randomized controlled trials on the gut microbiota

BACKGROUND

The gut microbiota plays a crucial role in gastrointestinal and overall health. Randomized clinical trials (RCTs) play a crucial role in advancing our knowledge and evaluating the efficacy of therapeutic interventions targeting the gut microbiota.

AIM

To conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the literature on RCTs involving the gut microbiota.

METHODS

Using bibliometric tools, a descriptive cross-sectional investigation was conducted on scholarly publications concentrated on RCTs related to gut microbiota, spanning the years 2003 to 2022. The study used VOSviewer version 1.6.9 to examine collaboration networks between different countries and evaluate the frequently employed terms in the titles and abstracts of the retrieved publications. The primary objective of this analysis was to identify key research areas and focal points associated with RCTs involving the gut microbiota.

RESULTS

A total of 1061 relevant articles were identified from the 24758 research articles published between 2003 and 2022. The number of publications showed a notable increase over time, with a positive correlation (R2 = 0.978, P < 0.001). China (n = 276, 26.01%), the United States (n = 254, 23.94%), and the United Kingdom (n = 97, 9.14%) were the leading contributing countries. Københavns Universitet (n = 38, 3.58%) and Dankook University (n = 35, 3.30%) were the top active institutions. The co-occurrence analysis shows current gut microbiota research trends and important topics, such as obesity interventions targeting the gut microbiota, the efficacy and safety of fecal microbiota transplantation, and the effects of dietary interventions on humans.

CONCLUSION

The study highlights the rapid growth and importance of research on RCTs that involve the gut microbiota. This study provides valuable insight into research trends, identifies key players, and outlines potential future directions in this field. Additionally, the co-occurrence analysis identified important topics that play a critical role in the advancement of science and provided insights into future research directions in this field.

Bibliometric research on analysis of links between periodontitis and cardiovascular diseases

Background

Periodontitis (PD) and cardiovascular diseases (CVD) rank among the most prevalent pathologies worldwide, and their correlation has been a subject of prolonged investigation. Numerous studies suggest shared etiological factors; however, a definitive causal connection remains unestablished. The objective of this study was to employ bibliometric and visual analyses in order to comprehensively examine the overarching characteristics, focal areas of research, and prospective trends pertaining to the PD-CVD relationship.

Methods

We sourced articles, reviews, and online publications on PD- and CVD- research from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) spanning from January 1, 1993, to May 15, 2023. A triad of analytical tools (R-Bibliometrix, VOSviewer 1.6.19, and CiteSpace 6.2.R3) were utilized to facilitate collaboration network analysis, co-citation analysis, co-occurrence analysis, and citation burst detection.

Results

Out of the 1,116 publications that fulfilled the eligibility criteria in the WoSCC database, the comprehensive characteristics analysis divulged a sustained growth trend in publication frequency. In the cluster analysis of reference co-citation and keyword co-occurrence, prominent themes such as "periodontitis", "cardiovascular diseases", "inflammation", "Porphyromonas gingivalis", and "atherosclerosis" consistently emerged. Contemporary topics such as "peri-implantitis," "COVID-19", "cardiovascular risk factors," and "endocarditis" were pinpointed as burgeoning research hotspots.

Conclusion

Based on this bibliometric study, in the field of association studies between PD and CVD, the etiologic mechanisms of both diseases have been intensively studied in the last three decades. Periodontal pathogens might serve as potential initiating factors linking PD and CVD. Inflammation may constitute a significant etiological factor shared by both diseases. Several emerging topics, such as COVID-19 and peri-implantitis, exhibit promising potential. This exhaustive overview casts light on pivotal research arenas, augmenting the field's understanding and stimulating further scholarly investigations.

The Implication of the Gut Microbiome in Heart Failure

Heart failure is a worldwide health problem with important consequences for the overall wellbeing of affected individuals as well as for the healthcare system. Over recent decades, numerous pieces of evidence have demonstrated that the associated gut microbiota represent an important component of human physiology and metabolic homeostasis, and can affect one's state of health or disease directly, or through their derived metabolites. The recent advances in human microbiome studies shed light on the relationship between the gut microbiota and the cardiovascular system, revealing its contribution to the development of heart failure-associated dysbiosis. HF has been linked to gut dysbiosis, low bacterial diversity, intestinal overgrowth of potentially pathogenic bacteria and a decrease in short chain fatty acids-producing bacteria. An increased intestinal permeability allowing microbial translocation and the passage of bacterial-derived metabolites into the bloodstream is associated with HF progression. A more insightful understanding of the interactions between the human gut microbiome, HF and the associated risk factors is mandatory for optimizing therapeutic strategies based on microbiota modulation and offering individualized treatment. The purpose of this review is to summarize the available data regarding the influence of gut bacterial communities and their derived metabolites on HF, in order to obtain a better understanding of this multi-layered complex relationship.

Impact of Diet on Gut Microbiota Composition and Microbiota-Associated Functions in Heart Failure: A Systematic Review of In Vivo Animal Studies

Heart failure (HF) represents a cardiovascular disease with high mortality and morbidity. The latest evidence shows that changes in the composition of the gut microbiota might play a pivotal role in the prevention and management of HF. This systematic review aims at assessing the potential associations between the diet, gut microbiota, and derived metabolites with the outcomes of HF. A systematic literature search was performed up to July 2022 on the PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases. The PRISMA guidelines were followed when possible. The risk of bias was assessed with the SYRCLE and ARRIVE tools. A total of nine pre-clinical studies on animal models, with considerable heterogeneity in dietary interventions, were included. High-fiber/prebiotic diets (n = 4) and a diet rich in polyphenols (n = 1) modified the gut microbiota composition and increased microbial metabolites' activities, linked with an improvement in HF outcomes, such as a reduction in systolic blood pressure, cardiac hypertrophy, and left ventricular thickness. A high-fat diet (n = 2) or a diet rich in choline (n = 2) induced an increase in TMAO and indole derivative production associated with a decrease in cardiac function, systemic endotoxemia, and inflammation and an increase in cardiac fibrosis and cardiac remodeling. Although results are retrieved from animal studies, this systematic review shows the key role of the diet-especially a high-fiber and prebiotic diet-on gut microbial metabolites in improving HF outcomes. Further studies on human cohorts are needed to identify personalized therapeutic dietary interventions to improve cardiometabolic health.

Scholars have long understood that gastrointestinal microorganisms are intimately related to human disorders. The literature on research involving the gut microbiome and neuroscience is emerging. This study exposed the connections between gut microbiota and neuroscience methodically and intuitively using bibliometrics and visualization. This study's objectives were to summarize the knowledge structure and identify emerging trends and potential hotspots in this field.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

On October 18, 2022, a literature search was conducted utilizing the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database for studies on gut microbiota and neuroscience studies from 2002 to 2022 (August 20, 2022). VOSviewer and CiteSpace V software was used to conduct the bibliometrics and visualization analysis.

RESULTS

From 2002 to 2022 (August 20, 2022), 2,275 publications in the WoSCC database satisfied the criteria. The annual volume of publications has rapidly emerged in recent years (2016-2022). The most productive nation (n = 732, 32.18%) and the hub of inter-country cooperation (links: 38) were the United States. University College Cork had the most research papers published in this area, followed by McMaster University and Harvard Medical School. Cryan JF, Dinan TG, and Clarke G were key researchers with considerable academic influence. The journals with the most publications are "Neurogastroenterology and Motility" and "Brain Behavior and Immunity." The most cited article and co-cited reference was Cryan JF's 2012 article on the impact of gut microbiota on the brain and behavior. The current research hotspot includes gastrointestinal microbiome, inflammation, gut-brain axis, Parkinson's disease (PD), and Alzheimer's disease (AD). The research focus would be on the "gastrointestinal microbiome, inflammation: a link between obesity, insulin resistance, and cognition" and "the role of two important theories of the gut-brain axis and microbial-gut-brain axis in diseases." Burst detection analysis showed that schizophrenia, pathology, and psychiatric disorder may continue to be the research frontiers.

CONCLUSION

Research on "gastrointestinal microbiome, inflammation: a link between obesity, insulin resistance, and cognition" and "the role of two important theories of the gut-brain axis and microbial-gut-brain axis in diseases" will continue to be the hotspot. Schizophrenia and psychiatric disorder will be the key research diseases in the field of gut microbiota and neuroscience, and pathology is the key research content, which is worthy of scholars' attention.

Bibliometric and visual analysis of coronary microvascular dysfunction

Background

Coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) may play an important role in various cardiovascular diseases, including HFpEF and both obstructive and non-obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD). To date, there has been no bibliometric analysis to summarize this field. Here, we aim to conduct a bibliometric analysis of CMD to determine the current status and frontiers in this field.

Materials and methods

Publications about CMD were taken from the Web of Science Core Collection database (WOSCC). WOSCC's literature analysis wire, the VOSviewer 1.6.16, and CiteSpace 5.1.3 were used to conduct the analysis.

Results

A total of 785 publications containing 206 reviews and 579 articles are included in the sample. The leading authors are Iacopo Olivotto, Paolo G. Camici, and Carl J. Pepine. The most productive institutions are the University of Florence, Cedars Sinai Medical Center, and Harvard University. The most productive countries are the USA, Italy, and England. There are a total of 237 journals that contribute to this field, and the leading journals in our study were the International Journal of Cardiology, the European Heart Journal and the JACC. From 2012 to 2021, the top three most-cited articles focused on the association between HFpEF and CMD. The important keywords are heart failure, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, chest pain, women, coronary flow reserve (CFR), endothelial dysfunction and prognostic value. "Positron emission tomography" shows the strongest burst strength, followed by "blow flow" and "artery." The keywords that started to burst from 2015 are particularly emphasized, including "heart failure," "coronary flow reserve," and "management."

Conclusion

Studies about CMD are relatively limited, and the largest contribution comes from the USA, Italy and England. More studies are needed, and publications from other countries should be enhanced. The main research hotspots in the CMD field include CMD in patients with HFpEF, sex differences, the new methods of diagnosis for CMD, and the effective treatment of CMD. Attention should be given to CMD in patients with HFpEF, and untangling the association between CMD and HFpEF could be helpful in the development of physiology-stratified treatment for patients with CMD and HFpEF.

Knowledge mapping of the links between the microbiota and allergic diseases: A bibliometric analysis (2002-2021)

BACKGROUND

In recent decades, dramatic changes in modern environmental exposures and lifestyles have resulted in a steep rise in the prevalence of allergic diseases such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis and food allergies. Evidence is mounting that the microbiota plays a crucial role in allergic disorder development and evolution. Therefore, a better understanding of allergic diseases within the context of the microbiota is urgently needed. This work aimed to comprehensively outline general characteristics, research hotspots, evolution routes, and emerging trends in this area.

METHODS

Relevant publications from January 2002 to December 2021 were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection on 5 August 2022. Bibliometric and visual analyses were performed using CiteSpace; VOSviewer; an online bibliometric platform; and Microsoft Excel 2019.

RESULTS

In total, 2535 documents met the requirements. The annual number of publications has shown rapid growth in the last two decades. The USA, University of California System, and Isolauri E of the University of Turku were the most productive and influential country, institution, and author, respectively. The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology was the most prolific and most cocited journal. High-frequency keywords included "gut microbiota", "asthma", "atopic dermatitis", "children", and "probiotics". Recent studies have focused on "atopic dermatitis", "skin", "asthma", and "probiotics", according to the cocitation analysis of references. Burst detection analysis of keywords showed that "community", "skin microbiome", "microbiome", "Staphylococcus aureus", and "chain fatty acid" were emerging research frontiers, which currently have ongoing bursts.

CONCLUSION

In the last 20 years, studies of the microbiota in allergic diseases have been flourishing, and the themes have been increasing in depth. These findings provide valuable references on the current research hotspots and gaps and development trends in the link between the microbiota and allergic diseases.

Bibliometric and visual analysis of time-restricted eating

An increasing number of studies have shown the effects of time-restricted eating (TRE) on metabolic diseases and cardiovascular diseases associated with obesity. However, no bibliometric analyses were conducted in this field systematically. In our study, we aimed to visualize the publications about TRE to determine the frontiers and hotspots and then provide references and guidance for further studies. Publications about TRE were exported from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database. VOSviewer 1.6.16 was adopted to perform the bibliometric analysis. In our study, a total of 414 publications with 298 articles and 116 reviews were included. The publications in this field showed an upward trend from 2016. A total of 2016 authors contributed to this field. The most productive authors were Satchidananda Panda, Krista A Varady and Emily NC Manoogian. All publications were distributed from about 624 organizations from 49 Countries/Regions. The leading institutions were the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, the University of California San Diego and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and the most productive countries were the United States, the People’s Republic of China and Japan. All publications were from 182 journals, and the most productive journals were Nutrients, Frontiers in Nutrition and Cell Metabolism. The first highest cited reference with 991 citations was published in Cell Metabolism, and authored by Satchidananda Panda et al. There were four indicating research directions, and the keywords of the green cluster were time-restricted feeding, metabolism, circadian clock, and circadian rhythm. The keywords of the blue cluster were obesity, health, diet, and food intake. The keywords of the red cluster were intermittent fasting, weight loss, caloric restriction, and time-restricted eating. The keywords of the yellow cluster were insulin resistance, metabolic disease, cardiovascular disease, and caloric intake. The main research hotspots in the TRE field were TRE and circadian rhythm, TRE and obesity, TRE and metabolic disease, and TRE and cardiovascular disease. TRE represents new directions to evaluate the effects of the timing of eating on different diseases, especially obesity, Type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease. Previous studies have generated impressive data on the effects of TRE on metabolic diseases and cardiovascular diseases associated with obesity. More high-quality studies are needed to assess the mechanism and efficacy of TRE in a wide range of populations and diseases.

A Bibliometric Analysis of Research on the Links Between Gut Microbiota and Atherosclerosis

Background

Emerging evidence has linked gut microbiota (GM) and its related metabolites to atherosclerosis (AS). This study aimed to analyze the evolution of GM in AS in the past decades, and provide valuable insights in this field.

Methods

Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) was applied to retrieve the publications related to GM in AS from their inception until 2 December 2021, and the data was analyzed in Microsoft Excel, Scimago Graphica, CiteSpace, and VOSviewer.

Results

In total, 560 documents were extracted from the WoSCC databases. The publications have shown rapid growth since 2008. China and Cleveland Clin were the most prolific country and institution, respectively. The journal with the most publications is Nutrients, and Nature was the most co-cited journal. Among 3556 related authors, Hazen, Stanley L., Tang, W. H. Wilson, and Wang, Zeneng were the top 3 contributing authors in this field. Aside from “gut microbiota,” “atherosclerosis,” the terms “TMAO,” “metabolite,” “obesity,” and “phosphatidylcholine” were frequently occurred in the abstract and title of articles. Burst detection of keywords indicated that “metabolic syndrome,” “acid,” and “bile acid” were hot topics in recent years. According to the co-citation analysis of references, the research focus in this area has changed over time, and recent researches focus on choline, hypertension, butyrate, and berberine.

Conclusion

Our study showed that the researches of GM in AS have been flourishing, and the content themes were constantly deepened. Human GM is critical to atherosclerotic diseases, and this hot topic is still worthy of more focus in the future.

Emerging trends and hotspots in the links between the gut microbiota and MAFLD from 2002 to 2021: A bibliometric analysis

BACKGROUND

The prevalence of metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) presented a booming growth over recent years in the whole world. MAFLD was associated with a higher risk of end-stage liver disease, hepatocellular carcinoma and liver transplantation. Accumulating evidence indicated that gut microbiota and MAFLD were interrelated and interacted with each other. However, to the knowledge of the authors, no bibliometric quantitative analysis has been carried out to evaluate the links between the gut microbiota and MAFLD. This study aimed to use bibliometric analysis to evaluate current publication trends and hotspots in the links between the gut microbiota and MAFLD, in order to advance research in this field.

METHODS

The articles regarding the links between gut microbiota and MAFLD from 2002 to 2021 were identified from the Science Citation Index-Expanded of Web of Science Core Collection. CiteSpace software, Vosviewer, the R package "bibliometrix" and the Online Analysis Platform of Literature Metrology were used to analyze current publication trends and hotspots in this field.

RESULTS

A total of 707 articles were retrieved regarding the links between gut microbiota and MAFLD from 2002 to 2021. The USA occupied the leading role until 2015 and the dominance of China started in 2016. The USA was the most frequently involved country in international cooperation. Shanghai Jiao Tong University was the most productive institution. Ina Bergheim was the most productive author, publishing 14 articles. The co-citation keywords cluster label displayed ten main clusters: probiotics, bile acid, immune function, adolescents, nutritional genomics, high fat diet, systems biology, lipopolysaccharides, phosphatidylcholine, and oxidative stress. Keyword bursts analysis indicated that diet induced obesity, metabolic syndrome, ppar alpha, and lactobacillus were the research hotspots with high strength.

CONCLUSION

The number of publications covering the links of gut microbiota and MAFLD increased dramatically in the past decade and especially became exponential growth in the last 3 years. Probiotics and bile acid will be the research direction of great importance in the etiology and novel treatment for MAFLD. This study provided systematic information and instructive assistance for future research work, that helped to discover the mechanisms and new treatments of MAFLD.
