Non-traditional Lipid Parameters as Potential Predictors of Asymptomatic Intracranial Arterial Stenosis

Lipid on stroke in intracranial artery atherosclerotic stenosis: a mediation role of glucose

Objective

Expanding on previous investigations, this study aims to elucidate the role of lipid metabolism disorders in the development of intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS) and the determination of stroke risk. The primary objective is to explore the connections between lipid parameters and acute ischemic stroke (AIS), while also examining the potential mediating influence of fasting glucose levels.

Methods

Retrospectively, we collected data from symptomatic ICAS patients at the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, including their baseline information such as medical histories and admission blood biochemical parameters. Stenotic conditions were evaluated using magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography angiography, or digital subtraction angiography. The associations between lipid parameters and AIS risks were investigated via multivariate logistic regression analysis.

Results

A total of 1103 patients with symptomatic ICAS were recruited, among whom 441 (40.0%) suffered new ischemic events during hospitalization. After adjusting for confounding factors, the RCS curves exhibited a dose-response relationship between the atherogenic index of plasma (AIP), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and AIS. Further multivariate analysis revealed significant associations between these parameters and AIS. Furthermore, mediation analysis indicated that fasting blood glucose (FBG) acted as a mediator in the association between lipid parameters (AIP, TC, and TG) and AIS.

Conclusion

Higher lipid parameters in ICAS patients, particularly AIP, TC, and TG, were associated with an increased AIS risk. Additionally, FBG may mediate stroke risk in ICAS patients, highlighting the need for further exploration of underlying mechanisms.

Comparison of the Effect of Non-HDL-C/HDL-C Ratio on Coronary Slow Flow with Other Non-Traditional Lipid Markers

Background

Coronary slow flow (CSF) is a microvascular disease characterized by delayed opacification of the epicardial coronary arteries during angiography. The main pathogenesis of CSF is endothelial dysfunction caused by diffuse atherosclerosis. Dyslipidemia is one of the primary factors raising the risk of atherosclerosis. Compared to conventional lipid profiles, non-traditional lipid profiles more accurately reflect dyslipidemic status. In this work, we compared the non-high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C)/HDL-C ratio (NHHR) with other conventional and non-conventional lipid profiles in order to determine its impact on CSF.

Methods

A total of 9112 subjects who underwent coronary angiography were screened retrospectively, of whom 130 subjects with CSF and 130 subjects with normal CF were included. Multivariate regression analysis was used to identify independent predictors of CSF. Additionally, in order to predict CSF, the diagnostic accuracies of NHHR and other non-traditional lipid profiles were examined.

Results

There were significantly higher non-traditional lipid profiles in the CSF group (all p < 0.001). Compared to other non-traditional lipid profiles, NHHR had a stronger association with thrombolysis in myocardial infarction frame count (r = 0.3593, p < 0.0001). In addition to NHHR, non-HDL-C, Castelli's risk index-II, atherogenic index of plasma, plasma glucose, dyslipidemia, smoking, and body mass index were identified as independent predictors of CSF. The ability of NHHR to detect CSF was superior to other non-traditional lipid profiles (area under the curve: 0.785; confidence interval: 0.730-0.840; p < 0.001).

Conclusions

NHHR was found to be a potent and reliable predictor of CSF. This indicates that NHHR can be used as a reliable biomarker for risk stratification of CSF.

Traditional and non-traditional lipid parameters as risk factors for sudden sensorineural hearing loss

OBJECTIVE

The purpose was to explore the effects of traditional and non-traditional lipid parameters on Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SSNHL).

METHODS

The study included 452 patients diagnosed with SSNHL, among whom 206 patients had a level of hearing improvement ≥10 dB after one month of follow-up. A propensity score-matched (2:1) control group was used. Conditional and unconditional logistic regression were used to analyze the risk factors for SSNHL.

RESULTS

Patients with SSNHL had a higher risk of concomitant hypertension and elevated atherosclerogenic lipid levels, with apolipoprotein B and apolipoprotein E identified as independent risk factors for the onset of SSNHL. Additionally, the Lipid Comprehensive Index (LCI) was an independent risk factor for the degree of hearing loss. A positive linear correlation was revealed between triglyceride, non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, atherogenic index, Castelli risk index, atherogenic index of plasma, LCI and hearing loss. However, no linear relationship was observed between hearing gain and any lipid parameters. When Total Cholesterol (TC) was in the range of borderline high, the treatment effect was the best. However, the statistical significance disappeared upon adjusting for confounding factors.

CONCLUSION

Patients with SSNHL exhibited markedly dysregulated lipid metabolism. Elevated serum lipid levels may be a causative factor in auditory impairment and can influence the extent of hearing loss. Promptly improving cochlear microcirculation may benefit patients with borderline elevated TC.

Traditional and nontraditional lipid parameters in Helicobacter pylori infection

Aims: This study sought to evaluate the relationship between Helicobacter pylori infection and traditional and nontraditional lipid parameters, including atherogenic index of plasma, cardiogenic risk ratio, atherogenic coefficient and remnant cholesterol. Methods: After the application of exclusion criteria, 309 patients were allocated according to the absence (n = 52) or presence (n = 257) of H. pylori infection. Results: Total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C) levels were nonsignificantly higher, and HDL-C levels were nonsignificantly lower, in the H. pylori-infected patient group. Triglyceride-to-HDL-C ratio, LDL-C-to-HDL-C ratio, atherogenic index of plasma, cardiogenic risk ratio, atherogenic coefficient and remnant cholesterol were comparable among groups. Conclusion: There was no significant association between H. pylori infection and traditional and nontraditional novel lipid parameters and indices.

Low-density lipoprotein particle profiles compared with standard lipids measurements in the association with asymptomatic intracranial artery stenosis

The Shiga Epidemiological Study of Subclinical Atherosclerosis was conducted in Kusatsu City, Shiga, Japan, from 2006 to 2008. Participants were measured for LDL-p through nuclear magnetic resonance technology. 740 men participated in follow-up and underwent 1.5 T brain magnetic resonance angiography from 2012 to 2015. Participants were categorized as no-ICAS, and ICAS consisted of mild-ICAS (1 to < 50%) and severe-ICAS (≥ 50%) in any of the arteries examined. After exclusion criteria, 711 men left for analysis, we used multiple logistic regression to examine the association between lipid profiles and ICAS prevalence. Among the study participants, 205 individuals (28.8%) had ICAS, while 144 individuals (20.3%) demonstrated discordance between LDL-c and LDL-p levels. The discordance "low LDL-c-high LDL-p" group had the highest ICAS risk with an adjusted OR (95% CI) of 2.78 (1.55-5.00) in the reference of the concordance "low LDL-c-low LDL-p" group. This was followed by the concordance "high LDL-c-high LDL-p" group of 2.56 (1.69-3.85) and the discordance "high LDL-c-low LDL-p" group of 2.40 (1.29-4.46). These findings suggest that evaluating LDL-p levels alongside LDL-c may aid in identifying adults at a higher risk for ICAS.

Using a k-means clustering to identify novel phenotypes of acute ischemic stroke and development of its Clinlabomics models

Objective

Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is a heterogeneous condition. To stratify the heterogeneity, identify novel phenotypes, and develop Clinlabomics models of phenotypes that can conduct more personalized treatments for AIS.

Methods

In a retrospective analysis, consecutive AIS and non-AIS inpatients were enrolled. An unsupervised k-means clustering algorithm was used to classify AIS patients into distinct novel phenotypes. Besides, the intergroup comparisons across the phenotypes were performed in clinical and laboratory data. Next, the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) algorithm was used to select essential variables. In addition, Clinlabomics predictive models of phenotypes were established by a support vector machines (SVM) classifier. We used the area under curve (AUC), accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity to evaluate the performance of the models.

Results

Of the three derived phenotypes in 909 AIS patients [median age 64 (IQR: 17) years, 69% male], in phenotype 1 (N = 401), patients were relatively young and obese and had significantly elevated levels of lipids. Phenotype 2 (N = 463) was associated with abnormal ion levels. Phenotype 3 (N = 45) was characterized by the highest level of inflammation, accompanied by mild multiple-organ dysfunction. The external validation cohort prospectively collected 507 AIS patients [median age 60 (IQR: 18) years, 70% male]. Phenotype characteristics were similar in the validation cohort. After LASSO analysis, Clinlabomics models of phenotype 1 and 2 were constructed by the SVM algorithm, yielding high AUC (0.977, 95% CI: 0.961-0.993 and 0.984, 95% CI: 0.971-0.997), accuracy (0.936, 95% CI: 0.922-0.956 and 0.952, 95% CI: 0.938-0.972), sensitivity (0.984, 95% CI: 0.968-0.998 and 0.958, 95% CI: 0.939-0.984), and specificity (0.892, 95% CI: 0.874-0.926 and 0.945, 95% CI: 0.923-0.969).

Conclusion

In this study, three novel phenotypes that reflected the abnormal variables of AIS patients were identified, and the Clinlabomics models of phenotypes were established, which are conducive to individualized treatments.

Association between atherogenic index of plasma and asymptomatic intracranial arterial stenosis in middle-aged and elderly women: A cross-sectional study in Shandong, China

BACKGROUND AND AIMS

The atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) is associated with progression of atherosclerosis and used to describe how pro- or anti-atherogenic components are balanced. However, the association of AIP with asymptomatic intracranial arterial stenosis (aICAS) is uncertain. The purpose of this study is to investigate the association between AIP and aICAS in rural China.

METHODS AND RESULTS

A total of 1990 participants aged ≥40 years free of stroke or transient ischemic attack were enrolled in this study. The presence of aICAS was examined by Transcranial Doppler ultrasound and confirmed by magnetic resonance angiography. The adjusted AIP (aAIP) was calculated according to the ratio of TG and HDL-C and further separated into 4 quartiles. Multiple logistic regression was used to investigate the association between aAIP and aICAS, and the dose-response relationship was explored by restricted cubic spline. After adjusting for conventional confounders, aAIP was significantly higher in the aICAS group than that in the non-aICAS group. Furthermore, the common odds ratios for aICAS risk increased with increasing aAIP quartiles. Multivariate logistic regression revealed that aAIP was independently associated with aICAS in female or middle-aged and elderly (age ≥50 years), and superior to other lipid profiles. Multiple-adjusted spline regression showed the dose-response association between aAIP levels and aICAS prevalence.

CONCLUSIONS

AIP might be independently and positively associated with the prevalence of aICAS in middle-aged and elderly women, which might be superior to traditional and nontraditional lipid profiles in rural China.

Elevated non-HDL-C/HDL-C ratio increases the 1-year risk of recurrent stroke in older patients with non-disabling ischemic cerebrovascular events: results from the Xi'an Stroke Registry Study of China

BACKGROUND

Few studies have explored the prognostic role of nontraditional lipid-related indicators in non-disabling ischemic cerebrovascular events (NICE). In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between the ratio of non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C/HDL-C) and the1-year risk of recurrent stroke in patients with NICE.

METHODS

Total cholesterol (TC), HDL-C, and patient information were collected at admission. Recurrent stroke events were followed up 3, 6, and 12 months after onset. Non-HDL-C levels were calculated by subtracting HDL-C from TC. The non-HDL-C/HDL-C ratio was treated as a continuous variable and in quartiles (Q1-Q4). Stratified multivariate Cox regression was used to investigate the relationship between the non-HDL-C/HDL-C ratio and the 1-year risk of recurrent stroke in patients with NICE.

RESULTS

Overall, 1,659 patients with NICE were enrolled. For each unit increase in the non-HDL-C/HDL-C ratio, the 1-year risk of recurrent stroke in patients aged ≥ 65 years (older patients) with NICE increased by 64% in the adjusted model (hazard ratio [HR]: 1.64, 95%confidence interval [CI]:1.18-2.27, P = 0.003), and the HRs were 3.21 and 4.24 times higher in the Q3 and Q4 groups than that in the Q1 group, which was considered to be the reference (adjusted model Q3: HR: 3.21, 95%CI: 1.05-9.83, P = 0.041; adjusted model Q4: HR: 4.24, 95%CI: 1.30-13.85, P = 0.017). However, there was no significant difference in patients younger than 65 years. Both curve fitting and Kaplan-Meier cumulative risk analysis showed that an elevated non-HDL-C/HDL-C ratio significantly increased the 1-year risk of recurrent stroke in older patients with NICE. The optimal range for the non-HDL-C/HDL-C ratio should be no higher than the Q2 group (2.256-2.939). Stratified Cox regression analysis showed that these results tended to be stable for different comorbidities (all P for interaction > 0.05).

CONCLUSIONS

Elevated non-HDL-C/HDL-C ratios significantly increased the 1-year risk of recurrent stroke in older patients with NICE. Therefore, clinicians need to pay more attention to this indicator when managing older patients with NICE.

The atherogenic index of plasma and carotid atherosclerosis in a community population: a population-based cohort study in China

BACKGROUND

The atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) is an important alternative metabolic biomarker of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases. Nevertheless, the correlation between the AIP and carotid atherosclerosis is unknown among the general population.

METHODS

A total of 52,380 community residents, aged ≥ 40 years who underwentcervical vascular ultrasound from December 2017 to December 2020 in Hunan China, were selected for retrospective analysis. The AIP was calculated as a logarithmically converted ratio of triglycerides (TG) to high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C). The participants were divided into AIP quartile groups (Q1-Q4). Logistic regression models and restricted cubic spline analyses were used to examine the association of the AIP with carotid atherosclerosis. Stratified analyses were applied to control for confounding factors. The incremental predictive value of the AIP was further assessed.

RESULTS

After adjusting for traditional risk factors, an increased AIP was associated with a higher rate of carotid atherosclerosis (CA), increased carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT), and plaques [odds ratio, OR (95% confidence interval, CI): 1.06 (1.04, 1.08), 1.07 (1.05, 1.09), and 1.04 (1.02, 1.06) per 1-SD increase in the AIP, respectively]. Compared with those participants in the quartile 1 group, those in the quartile 4 group had a greater risk of CA [OR 1.18, 95% CI (1.12, 1.25)], increased CIMT [OR 1.20, 95% CI (1.13, 1.26)], and plaques [OR 1.13, 95% CI (1.06, 1.19)]. However, we did not observe an association between the AIP and stenosis [0.97 (0.77, 1.23), p for trend = 0.758]. Restricted cubic spline analyses also showed a cumulative increase in the risk of CA, increased CIMT, and plaques but not stenosis severity (> 50%) with an increase of the AIP. Subgroup analyses showed that a more significant association between the AIP and the prevalence of increased CA was detected in younger subjects (aged < 60 years) with a body mass index (BMI) of ≥ 24 and fewer comorbidities. Additionally, the AIP provided incremental predictive capacity over established risk factors for CA, as shown by an improvement in the net reclassification index (NRI) and integrated discrimination index (IDI) (all P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONS

An elevated AIP in a community-based population is associated with a higher rate of CA. the AIP could serve as a potential biomarker for CA risk assessment.

Higher visceral adiposity index and lipid accumulation product in relation to increased risk of atherosclerotic burden in community-dwelling older adults

BACKGROUND AND AIMS

Visceral adiposity index (VAI) and lipid accumulation product (LAP), as anthropometric indices, have been applied to predict the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). However, few studies investigated the correlation between these two indicators and cardio-cerebro-vascular atherosclerosis in community populations. Our study was to explore the association of VAI and LAP with coronary, intracranial and extracranial atherosclerosis in a community-based asymptomatic middle-aged and older population.

METHODS

Participants without a history of CVD in the study of PRECISE (Polyvascular Evaluation for Cognitive Impairment and Vascular Events) were included. The sex-special indicators of VAI and LAP were calculated and stratified by the tertiles. The presence of plaque and coronary segmental stenosis score (SSS) were assessed by coronary computed tomography (CTA), as well as intracranial and extracranial atherosclerotic burden were evaluated by high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (HR-MRI), respectively. Binary or ordinal logistic regression was conducted to assess the association between each of the indexes and the presence and burden of atherosclerosis.

RESULTS

A total of 2875 subjects were included in the final analysis. The mean age was 60.9 ± 6.6 years and 1329 (46.2 %) participants were males. Compared with the first tertile of VAI, the higher tertile was associated with the presence of plaques (T3 vs T1, OR, 1.49, 95%CI, 1.12-1.98, for males; OR, 1.64, 95%CI, 1.24-2.17, for females) and atherosclerotic burden (T3 vs T1, adjusted cOR, 1.63, 95%CI, 1.24-2.14, for males; adjusted cOR, 1.70, 95%CI, 1.29-2.24, for females) in major coronary arteries. A similar association was found for LAP. VAI level has presented an association with the extracranial atherosclerotic plaques (T3 vs T1, OR, 1.34, 95%CI, 1.02-1.77) and burden (T3 vs T1, adjusted cOR 1.32, 95 % CI 1.00-1.73) only in females. Whereas, for intracranial atherosclerosis, the results failed to show any statistically significant association.

CONCLUSIONS

Among community-dwelling asymptomatic older adults, VAI and LAP were associated with the presence and burden of coronary atherosclerotic plaques, while VAI presented a weaker significant association with extracranial atherosclerosis in females.

Non-traditional lipid parameters as potential predictors of carotid plaque vulnerability and stenosis in patients with acute ischemic stroke

OBJECTIVE

Lipid abnormalities are important risk factors in patients with large atherosclerotic strokes. Recent studies have shown that non-traditional lipid parameters are crucial to the development of atherosclerosis and are closely related to the clinical outcome of acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Therefore, we aimed to investigate the relationship between non-traditional lipid parameters and carotid plaque stability and stenosis degree in patients with large atherosclerotic stroke.

METHODS

We retrospectively analyzed 336 patients with AIS. All patients were divided into the non-plaque group, stable plaque group, and vulnerable plaque group according to ultrasound examination. At the same time, the patients were divided into non-stenosis, mild stenosis, moderate stenosis, and severe stenosis groups according to the degree of stenosis. Non-traditional lipid parameters, including residual lipoprotein cholesterol (RLP-C), non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C), non-HDL-C to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (non-HDL-C/HDL-C), triglyceride to HDL-C ratio (TG/HDL-C), Castelli's risk index (CRI), and the atherogenic index of plasma (AIP). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to investigate the associations between the non-traditional lipid parameters and carotid plaque vulnerability. Spearman linear correlation analysis was used to test the correlation between variables and the degree of carotid plaque stenosis.

RESULTS

This study population included 336 patients with AIS, of whom 294 had a carotid plaque. Multivariate logistic regression model showed that RLP-C (OR, 3.361; 95%CI, 1.311-8.617), non-HDL-C/HDL-C (OR, 1.699; 95%CI, 1.279-2.258), non-HDL-C (OR, 1.704; 95%CI, 1.143-2.540), CRI-I (OR, 1.573; 95%CI, 1.196-2.068), and CRI-II (OR, 2.022; 95%CI, 1.369-2.985) were independent risk factors for carotid plaque vulnerability. In addition, Spearman correlation analysis showed that the values of RLP-C, non-HDL-C/HDL-C, non-HDL-C, TG/HDL-C, CRI-I, CRI-II, and AIP on admission were positively correlated with the degree of carotid plaque stenosis (all P < 0.001).

CONCLUSION

This study provides evidence that non-traditional lipid parameters (LP-C, non-HDL-C/HDL-C, non-HDL-C, CRI-I, and CRI-II) were potential predictors of carotid plaque vulnerability in patients with AIS. However, no significant correlation was observed between TG/HDL-C and AIP. RLP-C, non-HDL-C/HDL-C, non-HDL-C, TG/HDL-C, CRI-I, CRI-II, and AIP were closely related to the degree of carotid plaque stenosis. Non-traditional lipid parameters can be used as novel biomarkers of carotid plaque vulnerability and stenosis.

The predictive value of nontraditional lipid parameters for intracranial and extracranial atherosclerotic stenosis: a hospital-based observational study in China

BACKGROUND

Ischemic strokes are primarily caused by intracranial and extracranial atherosclerotic stenosis. Nontraditional lipid parameters broaden traditional lipid profiles, better reflect the metabolism and interaction between different lipid components, and optimize the predictive ability of lipid profiles for atherosclerotic diseases. This research was carried out to investigate the predictive value of nontraditional lipid parameters for intracranial or extracranial atherosclerotic stenosis.

METHODS

The investigation collected data from inpatients who underwent cervical vascular ultrasonography, carotid CTA, cerebral artery CTA or MRA, and brain MRI or CT from December 2014 to December 2021. The nontraditional lipid parameters were calculated by collecting traditional lipid parameters. To evaluate the predictive power of nontraditional lipid parameters, logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analyses were performed.

RESULTS

Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 545 patients were included. According to the imaging results, inpatients were divided into two groups, including no intracranial or extracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (n = 250) and intracranial or extracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (AS, n = 295). Among them, AS was further divided into three subgroups: intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ICAS), extracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (ECAS) and combined intracranial and extracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (IECAS). Logistic regression analysis showed that nontraditional lipid parameters, including the atherogenic index of plasma (AIP), TG/HDL-C, remnant cholesterol (RC), nonhigh-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C), lipoprotein combine index (LCI), atherogenic coefficient (AC), Castelli's index-I (CRI-I) and Castelli's index-II (CRI-II), were significantly correlated with intracranial or extracranial atherosclerotic stenosis (P < 0.05). Compared with other nontraditional lipid parameters, regardless of adjusting for potential confounding factors, AIP had a greater OR value in ICAS (OR = 4.226, 95% CI: 1.681-10.625), ECAS (OR = 2.993, 95% CI: 1.119-8.003) and IECAS (OR = 4.502, 95% CI: 1.613-12.561). ROC curve analysis revealed that nontraditional lipid parameters had good predictive power for intracranial or extracranial atherosclerotic stenosis.

CONCLUSIONS

This Chinese hospital-based study demonstrates that nontraditional lipid parameters (AIP, LCI, RC, CRI-II, AC, CRI-I and non-HDL-C) are effective predictors of intracranial and extracranial atherosclerotic stenosis, of which AIP may be a significant risk factor for predicting atherosclerotic arterial stenosis in the intracranial or extracranial regions.

Atherosclerosis Risk Factors in Patients with Reactive Hypoglycemia

PURPOSE

Glucose metabolism disorders are an established risk factor for atherosclerosis. Although reactive hypoglycemia (RH) can be classified as one of these disorders, its role as a potential atherosclerosis risk factor remains unclear. The aim of the study was to assess whether patients with RH have a higher risk of atherosclerosis.

PATIENTS AND METHODS

We recruited 178 patients (N=178) with suspected RH who were hospitalized after 2014 and underwent a prolonged 5-hour oral glucose tolerance test. The study cohort was divided into 2 groups depending on the results of the oral glucose tolerance test: Group 1 - subjects without RH (n=44), Group 2 -subjects with RH (n=134).

RESULTS

The analyzed groups differed significantly in terms of the following risk factors for atherosclerosis: high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels (54.3±18.8 mg/dL vs 63±18.5 mg/dL, p=0.003) and atherogenic indices (Castelli I: 3.7±1.2 vs 3.1±1.3, p=0.004; Castelli II: 2.1±0.9 vs 1.7±0.9, p=0.007; the atherogenic index of plasma: 0.34±0.33 vs 0.18±0.3, p=0.006; and the atherogenic coefficient: 2.7±1.2 vs 2.1±1.3, p=0.004). Univariate logistic regression showed that RH should not be considered to be a predictor of an increased atherogenic index of plasma (odds ratio [OR]=0.3 [95% confidence interval [CI] [0.16-0.7], p=0.002). Multivariate logistic regression revealed triglyceride levels (OR 1.14 [1.07-1.2], p=0.001) and body weight (OR 1.07 [1.03-1.12], p=0.002) to be independent risk factors for atherosclerosis.

CONCLUSION

Atherosclerosis risk factors are no more prevalent in patients with RH. RH does not increase the risk of an abnormal atherogenic index of plasma.
