Abstract
Aim: We analyzed the 100 most-cited articles on all anti-diabetic drugs. A comprehensive literature review found no bibliometrics on this. Methods: Two researchers independently extracted articles from Scopus and ranked them by citation count as the 'top 100 most-cited'. Results: The median number of citations is 1385.5. Most articles are from the USA (n = 59). Insulin has the most papers (n = 24). Majority (n = 76) were privately funded and contained at least one conflict of interest (n = 66). The New England Journal of Medicine has the most publications (n = 44). Male authors made majority of both first and last authorship positions. Conclusion: This study aims to aid in directing future research and in reducing biases.

Abstract
Numerous studies have highlighted the implication of oral microbiota in various cancers. However, no bibliometric analysis has been conducted on the relationship between oral microbiota and cancer. This bibliometric analysis aimed to identify the research hotspots in oral microbiota and cancer research, as well as predict future research trends. The literature published relating to oral microbiota and cancer was searched from the Web of Science Core Collection database (WoSCC) from 2013 to 2022. VOSviewer or Citespace software was used to perform the bibliometric analysis, focusing on countries, institutions, authors, journals, keywords and references. A total of 1516 publications were included in the analysis. The number of publications related oral microbiota and cancer increased annually, reaching its peak in 2022 with 287 papers. The United States (456) and China (370) were the countries with the most publications and made significant contributions to the field. Sears CL and Zhou XD were the most productive authors. The high frequency of keywords revealed key topics, including cancer (colorectal cancer, oral cancer), oral microbiota (Fusobacterium nucleatum, Porphyromonas gingivalis), and inflammation (periodontal disease). The latest trend keywords were F. nucleatum, dysbiosis, prognosis, tumor microenvironment, gastric microbiota, complications and survival, suggesting a new hotspot in the field of oral microbiota and cancer. Our study provides a comprehensive analysis of oral microbiota and cancer research, revealing an increase in publications in recent years. Future research directions will continue to focus on the diversity of oral microbiota impacted by cancers and the underlying mechanism connecting them, providing new ideas for targeted therapy of tumorigenesis.

Abstract
Precision oncology and pharmacogenomics (PGx) intersect in their overarching goal to institute the right treatment for the right patient. However, the translation of these innovations into clinical practice is still lagging behind. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the current state of research and to predict the future directions of applied PGx in the field of precision oncology as represented by the targeted therapy class of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). Advanced bibliometric and scientometric analyses of the literature were performed. The Scopus database was used for the search, and articles published between 2001 and 2023 were extracted. Information about productivity, citations, cluster analysis, keyword co-occurrence, trend topics, and thematic evolution were generated. A total of 448 research articles were included in this analysis. A burst of scholarly activity in the field was noted by the year 2005, peaking in 2017, followed by a remarkable decline to date. Research in the field was hallmarked by consistent and impactful international collaboration, with the US leading in terms of most prolific country, institutions, and total link strength. Thematic evolution in the field points in the direction of more specialized studies on applied pharmacokinetics of available and novel TKIs, particularly for the treatment of lung and breast cancers. Our results delineate a significant advancement in the field of PGx in precision oncology. Notwithstanding the practical challenges to these applications at the point of care, further research, standardization, infrastructure development, and informed policymaking are urgently needed to ensure widespread adoption of PGx.

Abstract
Aim This bibliometric analysis aims to evaluate the characteristics and impact of the top 100 cited articles published under the title of diabetes mellitus. Metods We performed to define the most cited articles in diabetes research by using the Web of Science. The papers were analyzed in terms of their year of publication, journal of publication, authors, impact factor (IF), total citations number, the average number of citations per year, studies topic, and type. Results The number of citations ranged from 1519 to 17.298. They were published from 1987 to 2018. The most cited articles were published in the New England Journal of Medicine (n = 26), followed by Diabetes Care (n = 17) and Lancet (n = 9). The original scientific paper was the most popular article type (46%), followed by review article (36%). The generality studies' subject was about treatment (n = 22), followed by pathogenesis (n = 19), etiology and risk factors (n = 16), diagnosis, screening, classification (n = 15), epidemiology (n = 11), prevention (n = 11) and complications (n = 6). There was a correlation between the average number of citations per year (ACpY) and IF (p = < 0.010, r = 0.259), citations and ACpY (p = < 0.001, r = 0.646), citations and time (p = 0.008, r = 0.266). Conclusion This study showed that original scientific papers were the most-cited and more articles were published in influential journals. Articles on diabetes treatment and pathogenesis were popular topics. Future interventions should focus on the management and prevention of diabetes. Abstract
BACKGROUND Drug-induced cardiotoxicity (DICT) is one of the most serious adverse drug reactions, which is an important safety issue in drug development and clinical practice. This study aimed to summarize the knowledge structure and to detect emerging trends, and provide ideas for future research on DICT in children using bibliometric methods. MATERIAL AND METHODS All publications on DICT in children were retrieved through the Web of Science Core Collection up to April 20, 2022. The document type was restricted to articles with the language set to English. CiteSpace and VOSviewer were used to conduct this bibliometric analysis. RESULTS A total of 298 articles were included, and the annual publications decreased since 2021. The United States was the leading country with the most publications (117), the highest centrality (0.39), and total citations (4055). The most influential institution was the University of British Columbia, while Carleton BC and Rassekh SR, both from Canada, were the most productive authors, but there was no leader in this field. The keywords with both high frequency and high centrality after excluding "cardiotoxicity" and "children" were acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Freq=43, Central=0.15), childhood cancer (Freq=42, Central=0.13), toxicity (Freq=33, Central=0.16), and breast cancer (Freq=29, Central=0.19). "Adriamycin cardiotoxicity" was the first burst keyword, while "childhood cancer", "oxidative stress", and "cardiac dysfunction" were emerging research hotspots. CONCLUSIONS Attention to DICT in children was insufficient. This study serves as a breakthrough point, providing a comprehensive overview of the knowledge structure, development landscape, and future opportunities in this field.

Abstract
Background Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a common and stubborn disease. The main causes are venous stasis of the femoral head, arterial blood supply damage, bone cell and bone marrow death, and bone tissue necrosis and subsequent repair obstacles. Over the past 22 years, the number of papers on ONFH has, overall, continued to increase. Methods Using bibliometrics, we investigated the trends, frontiers, and hotspots of global scientific output in the past 22 years. We searched Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) of the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) and retrieved information associated with papers and records published between 2000 and 2021. We used VOSviewer and CiteSpace to conduct bibliometric analysis and visual analysis on the overall distribution of annual output, major countries, active institutions, journals, authors, commonly cited literature, and keywords. The impact and quality of the papers were assessed using the global citation score (GCS). Results We retrieved a total of 2006 articles and reviews. Over the past 22 years, the number of publications (NP) increased. China ranked first in terms of NP, while the United States had the highest h-index and the highest number of citations (NC). Shanghai Jiao Tong University and International Orthopaedics were the institution and periodical, respectively. The paper written by Mont et al. in 2006 had the highest total GCS score, at 379. The top three keywords were "ischemic necrosis", "osteonecrosis", and "hip joint". Although there was a fluctuation in publications associated with ONFH, overall, the NP increased. China was the most prolific in this area, while the United States was the most influential country. The top 3 authors in terms of NP were Zhang, Motomura, and Zhao. Areas of focus in ONFH over recent years include signal pathway, genetic differentiation, glucocorticoid-induced osteogenesis, induced ischemic necrosis and osteogenesis. Conclusions Our bibliometrics analysis revealed the research hotspots and rapid development trends of ONFH research in the past 22 years. The most critical indicators [researchers, countries, research institutions, and journals publishing osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) research] relevant to the research hotspots in the field of ONFH research were analyzed.

Abstract
European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry (EJMC) has been around for a long time and has gained broad interest from the various individuals working in the field. However, there is no bibliometric analysis on the publications of EJMC to thoroughly assess the scientific output and current status systematically. Therefore, the study was conducted to analyze the various publications of EJMC from 1987 to 2022 to improve their quality. A total of 13,386 papers were retrieved, with the number of publications increasing yearly. Based on the multiple indicators of bibliometrics, the highest impact countries, institutions, authors and representative literature were identified, and visualization networks were constructed using VOSviewer. Keyword co-occurrence analysis reveals a gradual shift from phenotypic drug discovery to target-based drug discovery in the EJMC theme change. Moreover, further discussion of the keyword clustering results is provided to support researchers in defining the scope of their research topics and planning their research directions. At this stage, there is a greater focus on developing antitumor and oxidative stress-related drugs than on the earlier anti-infective activities. In future studies, the main research directions are tumor multidrug resistance, oxidative stress, and dual inhibitors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gout is the most common inflammatory arthritis with an increasing prevalence and incidence across the globe. We aimed to provide a comprehensive and systematic knowledge map of gout research to determine its current status and trends over the past decade. METHODS Publications on gout research were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database. Bibliometric R, VOSviewer, and Citespace were employed to analyze the eligible literature. RESULTS A total of 5535 publications concerning gout research between 2012 and 2021 were included. Most publications and citations both numerically came from China. The strongest international cooperation belonged to the USA. The University of Auckland was the most productive institution with a leading place in research collaboration. The prime funding agency was the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Most papers were published in Clinical Rheumatology. Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases achieved the highest number of citations, H-index and IF, which showed the most excellent comprehensive strength. The individual author with the most paper authorship was Dalbeth Nicola with 241 publications and 46 H-index. Keywords and co-citation analysis discovered that pathological mechanism remains the future hotspot in gout research. It may involve gout connection with gut microbiota, NLRP3 inflammasome, xanthine oxidase, and urate-transporter ABCG2. In addition, besides metabolic diseases, the relationship between gout and heart failure may need more attention. CONCLUSION This study clarified the current status and research frontier in gout over the past decade, which would provide valuable research references for later researchers. Key Points •We disclosed the current status and frontier directions of gout over the past 10 years worldwide. •We identified future hotspots of gout research, including gout connection with gut microbiota, NLRP3 inflammasome, xanthine oxidase, and urate-transporter ABCG2. •We discovered that the relationship between gout and heart status would be the research frontier.

Abstract
Cannabidiol, a non-psychoactive component extracted from the plant cannabis sativa, has gained growing focus in recent years since its extensive pharmacology effects have been founded. The purpose of this study intends to reveal the hot spots and frontiers of cannabidiol research using bibliometrics and data visualization methods. A total of 3,555 publications with 106,793 citations from 2004 to 2021 related to cannabidiol were retrieved in the Web of Science database, and the co-authorships, research categories, keyword burst, and reference citations in the cannabidiol field were analyzed and visualized by VOSviewer and Citespace software. Great importance has been attached to the pharmacology or pharmacy values of cannabidiol, especially in the treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders, such as epilepsy, anxiety, and schizophrenia. The mechanisms or targets of the cannabidiol have attracted the extreme interest of the researchers, a variety of receptors including cannabinoids type 1, cannabinoids type 2, 5-hydroxytriptamine1A, and G protein-coupled receptor 55 were involved in the pharmacology effects of cannabidiol. Moreover, the latest developed topic has focused on the positive effects of cannabidiol on substance use disorders. In conclusion, this study reveals the development and transformation of knowledge structures and research hotspots in the cannabidiol field from a bibliometrics perspective, exploring the possible directions of future research.

Abstract
Epilepsy affects more than 70 million people in the world. It is characterized by recurrent spontaneous seizures, and it is related to many neurological, cognitive, and psychosocial consequences. Glutamate neurotransmitter dysfunction has essential functions in the pathophysiology of epilepsy. In this work, bibliometric analysis was conducted to explore the trends, frontiers, and hotspots of the global scientific output of glutamate in epilepsy research in the past 20 years. The Science Citation Index Expanded of the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) was searched to obtain information on publications and records published between 2002 and 2021. VOSviewer and CiteSpace were used to conduct bibliometric and visual analyses on the overall distribution of annual output, major countries, active institutions, journals, authors, commonly cited literature, and keywords. The impact and quality of the papers were assessed using the global citation score (GCS). Four thousand eight hundred ninety-one publications were retrieved in total. During the past two decades, the number of publications (Np) associated with glutamate in epilepsy has risen yearly. The United States has published the most papers; its H-index and number of citations are also the highest. The League of European Research Universities (LERU) was the most productive institution. In 2016, the total score of the paper written by Zhang Y was 854, ranking first. The keywords that appear most frequently are “epilepsy,” “glutamate,” “temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE),” “hippocampus,” and “seizures.” This study showed that although the publications related to epileptic glutamate fluctuated slightly, the Np increased overall. The United States is a great creator and influential country in this field. The first three authors are Eid, T., Aronica, E., and Smolders, I. “spectrum,” “animal model,” “inflammation,” “mutation,” “dysfunction,” and “prefrontal cortex” are increasing research hotspots. By recognizing the most critical indicators (researchers, countries, research institutes, and journals of glutamate release in epilepsy research), the research hotspot of glutamate in epilepsy could help countries, scholars, and policymakers in this field enhance their understanding of the role of glutamate in epilepsy and make decisions.

Abstract
In the pathogenesis of melanoma, NF-κB is a key signaling pathway. Appling bibliometric analysis, we identify the frontiers and hotspots about NF-κB in melanoma, as well as distinguishing features of scientific research and output all over the world during the past 22 years. 2226 publications published from 2000 to 2021 and related information were retrieved based on Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-expanded) of Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). VOSviewer and Citespace were used to analyze bibliometric indicators and visualize the hotspots and research trend of studies on NF-κB in melanoma. The results indicated that despite fluctuations, the number of publications (Np) related to the research of NF-κB in melanoma per year increased over the past 22 years. The USA had the most publications. H-index and the number of citations (Nc) of the USA were also in the first place. PloS One was the most productive journal, and League of European Research Universities (LERU) was the most productive affiliation. Recently, the keywords “NF-kappa-b,” “melanoma,” “apoptosis,” “expression,” “activation,” “cancer,” and “metastasis” appeared most frequently. Our study suggested that articles associated with NF-κB in melanoma tend to increase. In this field, the USA was an influential country and a big producer. Most publications focused on clinical and basic research in the past 22 years, and keywords “tumor necrosis factor” and “trail induced apoptosis” had the highest burst strength.

Abstract
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with high cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, and cardiovascular diseases are the leading causes of death and disability in people with T2DM. Unfortunately, therapies strictly aimed at glycemic control have poorly contributed to a significant reduction in the risk of cardiovascular events. On the other hand, randomized controlled trials have shown that five glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) and one exendin-based GLP-1 RA reduced atherosclerotic cardiovascular events in patients with diabetes at high cardiovascular risk. Furthermore, a meta-analysis including these six agents showed a reduction in major adverse cardiovascular events as well as all-cause mortality compared with placebo, regardless of structural homology. Evidence has also shown that some drugs in this class have beneficial effects on renal outcomes, such as preventing the onset of macroalbuminuria. In addition to lowering blood pressure, these drugs also favorably impacted on body weight in large randomized controlled trials as in real-world studies, a result considered a priority in T2DM management; these and other factors may justify the benefits of GLP-1 RAs upon the cardiovascular system, regardless of glycemic control. Finally, studies showed safety with a low risk of hypoglycemia and no increase in pancreatitis events. Given these benefits, GLP-1 RAs were preferentially endorsed in the guidelines of the European and American societies for patients with these conditions. This narrative review provides a current and comprehensive overview of GLP-1 RAs as cardiovascular and renal protective agents, far beyond their use as glucose-lowering drugs, supporting their effectiveness in treating patients with T2DM at high cardiovascular risk.

Abstract
Dengue is a prevalent mosquito-borne viral infection in the tropical and sub-tropical regions. Its potential to progress into severe, life-threatening disease, has pressed the research community to develop safe, effective and affordable antivirals. Metformin (MET), a first-line antidiabetic drug and indirect AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activator, has recently emerged as a potential anti-DENV therapeutic candidate, based on some experimental evidence supporting anti-DENV activity in vitro and widely reported anti-inflammatory properties. Here, we examined MET in vitro activity against the four DENV serotypes and in two different mammalian cell lines. MET displayed a poor anti-DENV activity in BHK-21 cells with IC50 in the mM range, which was associated with increased p-AMPKα levels, thereby supporting that MET antiviral activity is mediated through AMPK activation. In contrast, MET exerted a pro-DENV activity in Vero cells that did not correlate with increased AMPK activation, suggesting AMPK-independent effects. Treatment with compound 991, a direct AMPK activator, led to reduced viral titers against all four serotypes and across both mammalian cell lines. In vivo, oral administration of MET did not reduce viremia titers in an asymptomatic mouse model, neither did it improve disease severity and progression in a mouse model of severe dengue. Instead, high dose regimen worsened disease outcome as evidenced by increased mortality, higher viremia and hyper-inflammation. Therefore, while AMPK may represent a potential host target, MET does not seem to hold great promise as a pan-serotype anti-dengue drug.
