Abstract
Neuroscience has contributed to uncover the mechanisms underpinning substance use disorders (SUD). The next frontier is to leverage these mechanisms as active targets to create more effective interventions for SUD treatment and prevention. Recent large-scale cohort studies from early childhood are generating multiple levels of neuroscience-based information with the potential to inform the development and refinement of future preventive strategies. However, there are still no available well-recognized frameworks to guide the integration of these multi-level datasets into prevention interventions. The Research Domain Criteria (RDoC) provides a neuroscience-based multi-system framework that is well suited to facilitate translation of neurobiological mechanisms into behavioral domains amenable to preventative interventions. We propose a novel RDoC-based framework for prevention science and adapted the framework for the existing preventive interventions. From a systematic review of randomized controlled trials using a person-centered drug/alcohol preventive approach for adolescents, we identified 22 unique preventive interventions. By teasing apart these 22 interventions into the RDoC domains, we proposed distinct neurocognitive trajectories which have been recognized as precursors or risk factors for SUDs, to be targeted, engaged and modified for effective addiction prevention.

Abstract
Though anxiety sensitivity (AS)-fear of anxiety-related experiences-is primarily tied to anxiety vulnerability, AS has also been prospectively associated with general negative affect and depression. Furthermore, depression has been longitudinally associated with different forms of substance use, and some AS subfactors (e.g., cognitive concerns) have been associated more consistently with depression and substance use than others. However, no previous study has investigated if longitudinal associations of AS with substance use may be mediated by depression or whether aspects of AS may be prospectively associated with substance use among adolescents. Hence, the present study tested depressive affect (the negative affective aspect of depression) as a prospective mediator of AS associations with substance use and examined longitudinal AS subfactor associations with substance use and problems. High school 9th graders (N = 2,877; Mage = 14.1 years; 55.3% female) completed self-report measures at baseline and at 6 months and 1 year later. Depressive affect mediated AS associations with subsequent alcohol, cigarette, electronic cigarette, cannabis, benzodiazepine, and opioid use. Also, AS cognitive and social concerns (vs. physical concerns) were more consistently associated with later depressive affect and substance use and problems. Current findings suggest that adolescents high in anxiety sensitivity tend to prospectively experience greater depressive affect, which in turn is related to a higher likelihood of engaging in several different forms of substance use. Thus, it is possible that interventions which target AS (particularly AS cognitive concerns) may help to treat or prevent depression and substance use among adolescents. Abstract
Objectives The trends of prescription opioid misuse are understudied in Arab populations, let alone among university students. Additionally, little is known about the psychological traits that increase susceptibility for such behaviors in this region. Thus, this study aimed to assess the prevalence of prescription opioid misuse and its association with addiction susceptibility, as measured by the Substance Abuse Risk Profile Scale (SURPS). Methods We sampled university students from King Saud University's women's campus. Data on prescription opioid misuse, SURPS traits, and demographic characteristics were collected using an electronic self-administered survey. Results Lifetime prescription opioid misuse was 48.5%, while past-month misuse was 28.9%. On average, SURPS subscale scores for impulsivity (mean = 11.6; SD = 2.8) hopelessness (mean = 12.3; SD = 3.5), sensation seeking (mean = 16.4; SD = 3.8), and anxiety sensitivity (mean = 14.6; SD = 2.6). Anxiety sensitivity composite scores significantly differed between students reporting misuse and those who did not. Moreover, the odds for prescription opioid misuse increased by 7% for every 1 unit increase in anxiety sensitivity (AOR = 1.07; 95% CI = 1.00, 1.14), when controlling for other SURPS measures and student characteristics. Conclusion The prevalence of prescription opioid misuse in our study is higher than what is reported in global student populations. This may reflect unmonitored availability of controlled substances and unsupervised medical prescriptions. Additionally, high levels of anxiety sensitivity may be driving such misuse. Further surveillance of prescription drug misuse among university students and motivators for such behavior is needed for planning prevention and control interventions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Non-medical use of prescription drugs (NMUPD) and their association with depression and anxiety are becoming global concerns. Biological sex may introduce differential exposure to NMUPD or depressive/anxiety symptoms. However, few studies have investigated the potential sex differences in the associations of NMUPD with depressive/anxiety symptoms. METHODS Data were drawn from the 2019 School-based Chinese College Students Health Survey. A total of 30,039 undergraduates (mean age: 19.8 [SD: 1.3] years) from sixty universities/colleges in China completed standard questionnaires and were included in the study (response rate: 97.7 %). RESULTS In the final adjusted model, non-medical use of opioids (experimenters: β = 1.10, [95 % CI, 0.62 to 1.57]) or sedatives (frequent users: β = 2.98, [95 % CI, 0.70 to 5.26]) was associated with depressive symptoms, while non-medical use of opioids (frequent users: β = 1.37, [95 % CI, 0.32 to 2.42]) or sedatives (frequent users: β = 1.19, [95 % CI, 0.35 to 2.03]) was also associated with anxiety symptoms. Sex-stratified analyses indicated that lifetime opioids misuse was associated with depressive symptoms in both sexes but with anxiety symptoms only in males (β = 0.39, [95 % CI, 0.09 to 0.70]). The association of lifetime sedative misuse with depressive symptoms was greater in males, while the significant association with anxiety symptoms remained only in female (β = 0.52, [95 % CI, 0.14 to 0.91]). LIMITATIONS Causal inference cannot be made due to the cross-sectional nature of the data. CONCLUSIONS Our study suggests NMUPD is associated with depressive and anxiety symptoms among Chinese undergraduates, and the associations may differ by sex.
