Abstract
Family accommodation describes changes parents make to their behavior, intended to alleviate their child's distress, which stems from a psychopathology. In anxiety, studies show that accommodation alleviates distress in the short term but is associated with increased symptom severity, greater functional impairment, poorer treatment outcomes, increased caregiver burden and disruption to family functioning longitudinally. Research shows high prevalence of family accommodation of anxiety in autism. While the most common treatments for anxiety in autism are cognitive-behavior therapy and pharmacology, research is limited and other approaches must be considered. Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) is a parent-based, manualized treatment for anxiety targeting family accommodation, which has been found to be acceptable and efficacious in treating childhood anxiety. This pilot trial examined the feasibility, acceptability, treatment-satisfaction, and preliminary efficacy of SPACE for anxiety in autism. Parents of 15 autistic children (ages 6-10 years) with at least average cognitive abilities exhibiting high levels of anxiety participated in 13 weekly sessions of SPACE. Feasibility and acceptability were assessed through enrollment, attrition rates, and adverse events. Of 26 eligible families, 22 (84.62%) elected to participate, 15 of whom (68.18%) completed treatment. Parents rated the treatment as highly satisfactory. Anxiety symptom severity and family accommodation were significantly reduced following treatment, with 86.66% of participants showing reliable change post-treatment, and this reduction was preserved at 2-month follow-up. This study provides preliminary evidence that SPACE is feasible, acceptable, satisfactory, and produces improvement in anxiety in the autistic population.Trial registration number: NCT04747262 Date of registration: February 10, 2021.

Abstract
The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has caused widespread disturbances in many human and social service programs. Several studies have examined special education programming adaptations since the onset of the pandemic; however, there has yet to be documentation of pandemic-related changes to transition programming and the impact of these changes for autistic youth. The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine changes in transition programming for autistic youth amid the changing educational landscape. We conducted 12 interviews with caregivers (n = 5) and school providers (n = 7) about transition programming for autistic youth and the COVID-19 impact to these services. The pandemic had positive and negative effects on many aspects of transition programming, including student-focused planning, student development, interagency and interdisciplinary collaboration, family involvement, and program structure and attributes. Elucidation of the ways that the COVID-19 pandemic impacted transition programming from the perspectives of multiple stakeholders has important implications for school personnel and can help to inform the future directions for the field of transition programming research.

Abstract
ASD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is primarily treated with psychosocial intervention. However, it is costly and requires extensive resources to be effective. This inaccessibility is also further worsened by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, making the shift to a digital approach a sensible option. Among the available ASD therapies, parent-mediated interventions (PMIs) have a broad application and lower implementation cost. Hence, this systematic review aims to evaluate the potential that telehealth-based PMI holds and explore its feasibility throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. To build up this study, a systematic search through PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest, Wiley, and Cochrane was performed until 14 January 2021. Using the preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis guidelines, we ultimately included six studies in the review. Each study was evaluated utilizing the Cochrane Risk of Bias (ROB)-2 tool. Generally, parents' outcomes (knowledge, satisfaction, and compliance) were higher in intervention group (E-learning) compared to control (standard treatment or wait-list). Children also showed some improvements in social skill, communication skill, and intelligence after receiving the treatment. In addition, coaching or therapist sessions were found to be crucial as adjuvant to support parents during the intervention. In conclusion, internet-based parent-mediated interventions are promising and recommended for managing ASD patients, in the face of pandemic. However, more variety in study locations is also needed, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, to tackle the knowledge and clinical application gap. Further research should be conducted with a uniform measurement tool to achieve the same perception and reliable pooled analysis.

Abstract
For young children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), early intensive intervention is imperative. The Bridge Skill Development Program is a parent-mediated intervention designed to “bridge the gap” during the period after a diagnosis of ASD while children wait for intensive intervention. This program introduces applied behavior analysis (ABA) teaching techniques, including the use of parent-mediated discrete trial teaching (DTT), to promote skill acquisition of target behaviors. Significant improvements were observed across four target behaviors taught to all participants. The program also aims to connect participants to intensive ABA programming.

Abstract
With its focus on robot-assisted autism therapy, this paper presents case-by-case analyses of socio-emotional outcomes of 34 children aged 3–12 years old, with different cases of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). We grouped children by the following characteristics: ASD alone (n = 22), ASD+ADHD (n = 12), verbal (n = 11), non-verbal (n = 23), low-functioning autism (n = 24), and high-functioning autism (n = 10). This paper provides a series of separate quantitative analyses across the first and last sessions, adaptive and non-adaptive sessions, and parent and no-parent sessions, to present child experiences with the NAO robot, during play-based activities. The results suggest that robots are able to interact with children in social ways and influence their social behaviors over time. Each child with ASD is a unique case and needs an individualized approach to practice and learn social skills with the robot. We, finally, present specific child–robot intricacies that affect how children engage and learn over time as well as across different sessions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a widespread developmental disorder of the nervous system with an unclear etiology and pathogenesis. Its global incidence is currently increasing, and no effective drugs are available to improve its core symptoms. Nonpharmaceutical therapy can effectively relieve the core symptoms of autism, has fewer side effects than drugs, and is easily accepted by patients. This systematic and network meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the impact of non-pharmaceutical therapy on autism to explore preferable therapeutic options for autism. METHODS Online databases, including the China National Knowledge Infrastructure [CNKI], SinoMed, Wanfang Database [WF], China Science and Technology Journal Database [VIP], MEDLINE, Web of Science, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library will be searched for randomized controlled trials of nonpharmacological interventions for autism published before October 2021. Two researchers will be independently responsible for the literature screening, data extraction, and quality assessment. Standard paired and Bayesian network meta-analyses will be performed using RevMan 5.3 Software and GEMTC 0.14.3, to compare the efficacy and safety of different nonpharmacological regimens. RESULTS The results of this systematic and network meta-analysis will be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal for publication. CONCLUSION This study provides a comprehensive and reliable evidence-based reference for the efficacy and safety of different non-pharmacological interventions for autism.
