Abstract
BACKGROUND The frequency of family meals has been suggested as a protective factor against obesity among children. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to investigate the cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between family meals frequency and children's overweight/obesity in families at high risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D) across six European countries. METHODS 989 parent-child dyads (52% girls and 72% mothers) were included. Participants completed validated measures to assess the frequency of family meals and anthropometrics. Multivariable regression models were applied to examine the longitudinal associations between family meals frequency and overweight/obesity in children. Logistic regression was performed to predict the odds of having overweight/obesity depending on changes in family meals frequency over a two-year follow-up period. Analyses were stratified for children's sex. RESULTS High frequency of family breakfasts and/or dinners was inversely associated with children's BMI in boys and girls at T2. Results showed decreased odds of overweight/obesity at follow-up among both boys (OR = 0.65; 95% CI 0.41, 0.96) and girls (OR = 0.53; 95% CI 0.31, 0.87) who consumed minimum of three times family breakfasts and/or family dinners a week at baseline. An increase in family breakfasts and/or dinners frequency was associated with lower odds of overweight/obesity in both boys and girls at follow-up. CONCLUSION A high frequency of family breakfasts and/or dinners but not lunch during childhood is associated with lower odds of overweight/obesity development in children from families at high risk of T2D. The promotion of family meals could help in preventing the development of overweight/obesity among children.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Examine school children's physical activity (PA) and sedentary behaviours (SB) during 2015 to 2017 in China, and study their associations with children's weight status and relevant gender differences. METHODS This open cohort study included students from five major cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, Nanjing, and Chengdu) across China. Data were collected from students in 2015, 2016, and 2017 (n = 5535) and from their parents and school personnel. Children's weight, height, and waist circumference were measured. SB and PA factors were evaluated using questionnaires. Mixed-effects models examined the relationship between weight status and PA-/SB-associated factors using this longitudinal data. RESULTS These children had high rates of obesity (12.4%, 95% CI 11.6%-13.3%) and central obesity (28.1%, 95% CI 26.9%-29.3%) during 2015 to 2017. Boys were more likely to have obesity than girls (16.5% vs 8.4%, respectively) as well as centrally obesity (36.3% vs 19.8%, respectively) and spent more time in screen viewing than girls (hours/week ± SD: 2015, 1.8 ± 2.5 vs 1.5 ± 2.0; 2016, 2.0 ± 2.4 vs 1.8 ± 2.5; 2017, 1.7 ± 2.3 vs 1.4 ± 2.1 hours/week). Those who walked <5 minutes on their average daily walk to school were more likely to have obesity (OR: 1.96, 95% CI 1.03-3.73) than those who spent ≥15 minutes on walking to school. When stratified by gender, this higher risk was only observed in girls (OR: 3.01, 95% CI 1.09-8.35). Children who spent more time in screen viewing were more likely to have obesity (OR: 1.13, 95% CI 1.06-1.21) and have central obesity (OR: 1.05, 95% CI 1.02-1.09). The association for obesity was consistent in boys and girls (boys, OR: 1.15, 95% CI 1.05-1.25; girls, OR: 1.12, 95% CI 1.00-1.24). CONCLUSIONS More screen time and less walking time were risk factors for developing obesity in urban Chinese children. The associations varied by gender.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the direct and indirect effects of family characteristics and the perceived neighborhood environment on obesity risks among schoolchildren. METHODS Through phone contact with the child's mothers/guardians, the perceptions about the aspects of the neighborhood that could limit or promote health. Physical activity, socioeconomic data, self-reported weight and height, and ultra-processed consumption of the respondents were evaluated, in addition to the screen time of both mothers and children. A hybrid model of structural equations was used to test the direct and indirect effects of family and environmental variables on childhood obesity. SETTING Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. SUBJECTS A total of 322 children from 9 to 10 years old from municipal schools and their respective mothers/guardians. RESULTS Childhood obesity was positively associated with obesity among mothers/guardians and with the latent variable "socioeconomic status (SES)." It was observed that the child's guardians positively influenced childhood obesity through their own habits, such as screen time and consumption of ultra-processed products, with obesity of mothers/guardians as mediators of both associations. There were no direct and indirect effects of the latent variables of the perceived environment in childhood obesity. CONCLUSION Family characteristics are important determinants of childhood obesity and should be considered when designing prevention strategies. Parental perceptions of neighborhood characteristics did not have an influence on childhood obesity.

Abstract
Physical inactivity is a growing issue in Chinese youth, but parks can facilitate traditional and non-traditional forms of physical activity for little to no cost. Despite this opportunity, very little is known regarding park use among Chinese youth. The purpose of this study was to conduct a cross-sectional observational study of park usage and physical activity of youth in municipal parks in Nanchang, China. Data were collected in June of 2014 in eight parks across Nanchang, Jiangxi a large city in southeast China. Physical activity was measured by a modified version of System for Observing Play and Recreation in Communities. Ordered hierarchic generalized linear models were estimated using a logit link function. The influence of the park was estimated using random effects, with fixed effects and park, environmental, and park user characteristics. Youth were most often seen active in the afternoon, on weekends, and during cooler times (≤ 29 °C). Paradoxically, more children were active when air quality was poorer. Older boys were more active than younger boys, but no differences were observed in girls. More children were seen active in unstructured play compared to structured activities. The results suggest parks are an important setting for physical activity among Chinese youth, and that unstructured activities can play an important role in promoting greater youth physical activity. Chinese youth were most often seen engaging in physical activity in the afternoon, on weekends, and during cooler times (< 29 °C). Paradoxically, more Chinese youth were physically active when air quality was poorer. More Chinese youth were seen physically active in unstructured play compared to structured activities.
